  • Today we continue from the previous episode and it is time to face the aftermath of the big Pattaya Flood. We wake up to 28 inches of water in my condo parking garage and we spend the day trying to salvage our vehicles. I'll show you how and why I decided to handle it the way I did. So far I have managed to save 2 of the bikes and spent less than 100 USD.

I'm guessing many at the condo are likely going to think twice about renewing their rentals after their contracts expire. I always wondered how those low parking garages would fair during the monsoon season when it floods. You're right, I think the condo employees should've at least attempted to reach out to its tenants (even in the middle of the night) to give them an opportunity to move their vehicles before the water levels got too high. Glad to see your bill for two of the bikes didn't end up costing too much.

Centara Hotel also has basement parking but they installed a flood stopper at the entrance to the parking. It's a short metal bollard that comes up from the ground and sticks up about a foot or so. It's not water tight of course but it held back most of the flood from engulfing the basement.

Good Luck that both cycles are Okay ( the Honda &Vee's scooter in the shop) I am hoping that the Versys comes out of this okay too. Your old rebuild 400 is another story. Wishing good Karma comes your way. Next flooding there could be even more disastrous. Good that your going to moving soon ! Hopefully a place that has better drainage & runoff.

You are right, trail bikes are made to go through water, so long as the water doesn't get up to the air intake, it won't get in.
Most damage comes when an engine is running then goes under and sucks in water.

It is a lot of hard work that could have been avoided for people staying in their units. Our security has an intercom to each unit and they buzz often. This should not have happened for many reasons, but It did. An interesting situation at GA. I drove for over 30 years. In asia, I find it much easier to pay for the ride to get some place, and do my 11,000 steps. It is not the money as I owned many high end cars, but it made me lazy. I think of living in Pattaya for a year to see if it matches my lifestyle on a day in and day out basis. I am not into flooding. It damages so many things and causes lots of disease. Maybe you will consider this while evaluating different housing alternatives. Thanks for the video and good luck with your vehicles.

All this on my birthday...I knew that there was a reason that I don't celebrate it anymore. Glad to hear that at least two of your bikes are okay.

I dropped an outboard motor in the drink once for just seconds, not even a full minute. I got it started immediately after. It was okay but never really the same again. Sorry to see your troubles w/ bikes..
That Kawasaki mechanic probably saw the floor waters and knew he was in for a treat of a day ahead, then he called in sick and spent the day eating comfort food and drinking beer. 😁

From a few of your more recent videos, I was thinking that it might be a good idea for you to consider buying a small pickup truck. Now I am glad you don't have one, and have to deal with that mess. Take care.
