I stopped at a PTT on the way back to BKK. I was amazed at what was on offer there. Totally trumps anything we have here in Australia that I've been to.
I've always been impressed with the service stations in Thailand especially compared to the ones in the UK which are ridiculously expensive. I like the look of that chicken. Thanks for sharing.
Totally agree 👍👍
Fun fact: the 7-11s at the PTT stations do not sell alcohol! It took me a while to realise this. Presumably to discourage drink driving. Having said that, PTTs around the country would be my choice too. Very consistent amenity.
Another fun fact: the 7-11s inside most universities campuses in Thailand do not carry condoms or lubricants presumably to discourage students from having sex while still in school.
Growing up and traveling through the southern U.S., we always liked stopping at Stuckeys.
Wow, hadn't heard that one in a while 👍👍
Waffle House/Huddle House for breakfast.
Yes we had plenty of them in the South in Louisiana and Mississippi but only a few left.
We always bought a Stuckey's Pecan Log.
@@mylariat yes I remember those and the fudge and taffy
The restrooms (toilets , in Thailand) are usually very good at PTT so my wife always wants to stop there...and for Amazon too. They usually have a good air machine for your tires too but you have to look for it and hope some dipstick didn't park in that spot.
Haha, hate when that happens
Every time I am on a road trip in Australia I always miss Thailand Gas station pit stop. Not many good resting area on Australian road trip pretty much have to stop by McDonald. No toilet service at gas station in Australia, I found just one small gas station with toilet near Cooma and that’s it. Thailand gas station is another level.
สวัสดีฉันหวังว่าที่นั่นจะมีเหมือนกันในอนาคต Welcome back to visit Thailand again. My friend ✌️🙂❤️
PTT are my favourite. They make a road trip more enjoyable, especially as they often have locals selling their home made Thai food snacks. Amazon is great coffee and means I can avoid the more expensive Star Bucks. I never complain about the ladies needing a stop when we can call in at a PTT.
711 is king all over Asia. I never thought in my life that I would be so happy to see a 711...Oh the aircon and cold beer. I don't drive anymore and I never thought I'd be interested in seeing a video about gas stations, but man you killed it==Good job Mate
Me too!! For me, when traveling, Thai 7/11 is the sign of “I know I can survive everything”!😂😂 Because they have all things you need in good quality. Food, coffee, desserts, goods, toys, makeups, towels, lighters, home goods etc.
I said THAI 7/11 because 7/11 in another countries which are not run by Thai CP company are not that abundant.
I generally stop at PTT stations when I'm on a Thailand road trip. Amazon is a big plus on the stops.
Yes, I think that brings in the business as well.
I have been travel a lot around in Thailand by car the last 9 years. I learned quickly to go for the PTT stations due to all the kind of service there. Most of them have 7/11, Amazon Cafe, air filling, toilets as a minimum. But then you have local food vendors, restaurants, food court and other shops etc on the newer and bigger ones. Nothing wrong with the ESSO or Shell stations I have been to, but PTT have most to offer in all aspects for most people on the move. And how the PTT has evolved the last 10 years, don't be surprised if there will pop up motels in some of them too in the near future as more and more people are driving their car on Hollidays and vacations.
Yeah, seems that would be the next logical way for them to make more money 👍
Yes,it’s not a joke, there have been many resorts, motels in gas stations in Thailand for a long time.
Have a great and safe tour, Loucous. Look forward to your travelogue.
Thank you! Will do!
That looks impressive 👍😃 beats anything in England or France(lucky to even find a service station)
PTT stations actually make little profit selling petrol. Their main income are from rent. station itself attracts customers. when customers shop (and they do shop a lot!) these little businesses survive.
basically a mall
Creative idea for a video today, I run out of ideas now and then for videos, but you always seem to come up with something fresh…….good work…..again Lucas!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
I don't think I've ever seen a workshop as clean as that one. I ended up there once.
Good to know when traveling around Thailand. Thanks
ยินดีต้อนรับครับ ขอบคุณที่ชอบเมืองไทย❤❤
Always a great video!
Thanks for all your efforts
Much appreciated
👍👍😊
At first I was thinking it would be something like Bucee's but these look more like a big food court that sells gas too.
Flying J has always been my stopping spot too! Nothing here like the Thai gas stations and selections. Well I take that back in mainly Texas you have Buc-ee’s
Flying J can even be found here in Canada. We used to go there every week after our pick up hockey games! Great restaurant and bar. 👍🏼👍🏼
And Buc-ee's is key! Love that place! Wow! 😳
@@Kellyjv77 I always liked the cappuccino machine at Flying J and gas was the cheapest. Yes Bucc-ee’s is an experience!!
@@oreospeedwaggindoesamerica6078 They shutdown our local flying J/ Man, I miss their Biscuits and Gravy!
Buc'cees in New Brunfels has 144 pumps, crazy big, and maybe twice the size of the other buc'cees, but I like stopping at the occasional Flying J too.
For everyone out there, Buc'cees in New Braunfels Texas seems about twice the size of some of the other Buc'cees here in Texas 144 Gas Pumps, plus a big version store including bunches of items with beaver logo, and no Semi Trucks allowed, even though the "footprint" seems truck stop sized, just wild but for teachers if they get the credit card they get an additional 15 cents off per gallon. *and you can pick up BBQ or other items inside too.
We’ll come to Thailand land of smile❤️ ได้โปรดมาสัมผัสประสบการณ์ที่คุณจะต้องอึ้งกับ ดินแดนแห่งรอยยิ้มและความมีน้ำใจจากพวกเรา😃
Interesting video Lucas, looking forward to seeing your trip in issan 👍😁
Very soon!
Interesting topic. Gas prices have skyrocketed here. Just paid over $70 to fill up. We only use Shell. Thanks for the update.😎
Enjoyed your video as I am new to the Jomtien area. Honestly, it was comforting to hear an American speak! LOL
Buckee's definitely dominates the Texas mega gas station chains. Great food, a variety of different animal jerky, shirts, gifts, beaver nuggets and barbeque. It's a mandatory stop and stretch on a long trip
Yes been to Buckee's on my many travels across I-10 👍👍
PTT & Bangchak are state owned enterprises listed in stock market. Also, now 7-11 (cp-all) acquired Tesco and re-brand to be Lotus.
Fantastic unique video. I've seen national lampoon vacation so many times and forgot that line, "I'm so hungry I could eat a sandwich from a gas station"....hilarious 😅
Haha, Glad you enjoyed it! 🤣 👍👍👍
This is my favorite gasstation in Thailand aswell. Always find someting good to eat, clean toilets and I like to watch Thai`s when them come there. Enjoy your Isaan tour.
Totally agree
Country kitchen is at the TA truck stops. Iron skillet at petro truck stops. Flying J has mostly Denny's.
Been in Thai for 20 years, you got it right!
Lucas years ago my friends car broke down on the way back from Hua Hin. At the time, there was no road service like we have in Australia. What we discovered is that there are vehicles going up and down the expressway looking for breakdowns. They offer to take you to their friend who just happens to be a mechanic. Ended up cancelling the tow a kilometre or so in and was able to find a reputable mechanic to move the car and repair the radiator at a cost of B10k. We refer to them as Servo Sangas in Australia.
Ive always loved the gas station stops and always had a good meal there. I am a HUGE fan of coffee club- the way they make an Americano....oh mammma! That's good stuff!
Funny I have just been looking at PTT petrol stations on TH-cam, and was going to mail you too see if you could do a video on them when this popped up on my laptop, do you think it is psychic? Don't know how I missed this before as I have full subscription from almost the day you began blogging. Got my shirt from Mr Lucky thank you.
Like your research for some of you're future trips , planning ahead.
Yes, it's all about planning 👍
Very informative . One of your best .
Thanks Mike.
Hi there, we live just outside Las Vegas and have a station called "Terrible's" but despite the name it boasts 100 pumps (largest in the USA), the giant store is like a mini Costco, even an airplane hanging from the ceiling lol.. A must stop before crossing the California border. Always enjoy your videos, my Filipina wife says they make her miss her country..
Same same as Terribles Casino. Yeah, love those smaller places, generally good food specials.
This channel has definitely become my reference point on anything Thailand at this moment. Btw, I learn my lesson that you really can't get real Popeye's Chicken unless you're in the U.S of A.
Even that depends on the local franchisee. I've had really good Popeyes and terrible popeyes.
Another great video, made me hungry tho haha all the best mate
Glad you enjoyed 👍
Thanks for another great share and video! Yep, still try to find a Flying J here if I can, and air machines are a dollar IF you can find one:* Food looked great, and would also like the chicken :) In Texas, Bucees's is a big one, and of course the largest in US on I80 in Iowa for a truck stop? Cheers and all the BEST to you!
Yes, been to that BIG I80 stop many times 👍
May Everyday be a good day
Welcome to Thailand🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭
As you said they all seem to have commercial agreements with different outlets, PTT & 7-eleven etc. What will be interesting is that ESSO has Tesco-Lotus Express, but Lotus is now owned by the same company that owns 7-eleven so it will be interesting to see if ESSO keeps the Lotus stores.
Every time I see or hear PTT, I flashback to my Army days in Turkey, where PTT was the "Posta Telgraf Telefon". I don't think that requires any translation.
Happy Fourth Brother! Duty,Honor,Constitution!
4:19 I am Thai and I don’t like Amazon’s coffee. It’s too strong😂😂. But I love their snacks.
I have seen a few travel Thailand video s that included Fuel and food stops. I was wondering about costs and most don't include that. Thanks for sharing!
Welcome Tim 👍
As always Lucas...another great video......love your story telling...you make the most mundane subject come to life and interesting and informative....well done mate
I've been visit this station for many few times ago, but for the latest one I've visit at the front of this station..... I did not get visit in so I just pass through that around Sukhumvit road.
We have Buc-cees in TX. Really good.
👍👍
PTT. always has clean western toilets. always a must for her indoors. Also seven eleven house brand peanuts 9 BHAT you can go wrong.
Great video Lucas, 👍👍
You can have 4 or 5 - Seven 11s in one soi and they all seem to survive. They offer so many services including bill payments.
ฝั่งตรงข้ามกันในซอยก็มีครับ😅😅😅
OMG a GMM-TV kiosk at 4:50 ?!?! Can we have a full video review of that please? :) i may or may not be a huge Tay Tawan fan:)
Once again the food looked yummy especially the chicken in The Texas Chicken. By the way a senorita friend of mine Juanita wanted to know if there are Mexican Ristorante over there. Have a good July and enjoy your BIG TRIP. I'm headed to POPEYES to get my Chicken :)
Tell her Si, Si, there are some good one. I have a few vlogs eating Mexican here, one of my favorites.
When I'm in Thailand , I always go to Amazon coffee shop instead of Starbucks since its in almost every gas stations lol! Honestly Amazon has better tasting coffee and way cheaper too.
I've made better coffee than Starbucks while in the Army using hot water and 2nd hand coffee grounds filtered through a sock.
It was a clean sock. 😃😃
Yes, we agree
Twice had that tyre shop help me with a puncture. And a big fan of Texas chicken. The Mexicana wrap is awesome
Yes, I'll be back for the TX Chicken for sure 👍
adding air to tires is currently 1.50 for 3 minutes. ESSO or EXXON here is still the best petrol, although now up to 2.69 per gallon - was 1.50 under last president
I haven't seen an Esso station in years. Air here in the States, where it is not free, is $1.75 now.
Jiffy is owned by PTT.
7/11 had a ten year contract with PTT and are to be replaced by Jiffy,
I've seen some cleared out already.
The Intanin coffee is way better than the Amazon.
PTT used to be the worst of all. Then came Jiffy Jet in orange colors a totally new brand. The PTT you are looking at is what Jiffy Jet built. PTT quickly started to lose out, bought Jiffy Jet and started to rebuild their gas stations according to the Jiffy Jet concept. The one you look at.
My wife came in and said what the hell are you watching him going round a service station. Then ended up watching and commenting on everything you were saying. She loves Tesco lotus loool
Haha, best not to argue 🤣
@@Rides4Kickz When Momma's happy, Everybodys HAPPY!
When I grew up service stations had the worst meat pies. But after a night out they tasted great at 2-3am.
funny how that works out 🤣
As it happens I broke down at that very gas station with a blown tyre. Lucky the tyre shop was there to fix it.
The Petrol Stations are like a small oasis where you can refresh and cool down. Have a safe trip upto Issan.
Will do, Thanks Dan
To find an air hose at a gas station in Calgary that is free is a challenge.Over 10 years ago I bought a 12 volt tire inflator and I have no regrets on that $20 purchase.
Yeah, sometimes the air didn't even work after I put my money in 🤣🤣
@@Rides4Kickz I have rescued 3 other drivers who got tire punctures with that nifty 12 volt powered gadget.
Good episode, as usual.
As you mentioned those numerous ATM's, I have a question and a request for a next episode.
In the good old times, you would use your card to get Thai bahts and it would cost you (via your bank) your exchange rate. Last time I was there, new rule : in order to withdraw cash, you would have to pay a nominal fee...
Could you please enquire and share with us the exact costs of a cash withdrawal, today in LoS, and in your opinion, the ideal amount to withdraw to minimize the bank costs?
Thank you!
I never withdraw cash from an ATM here from an outside account. My luck they would freeze my account. I don't recommend using that as a primary means of getting cash here, maybe only a backup plan. Between the fees and the chance of the bank viewing it as suspicious activity, it is not the best choice.
@@Rides4Kickz Thank you for your answer.
I understand, that you opened a local account. But how would it be for a tourist coming to LoS for, say, 2 or 3 months? Could he open an account in any local bank? Would it be worth it?
When you say big gas stations, I think buccees gas station in Texas. They have have good food and supposedly the cleanest restrooms. Any yeah I actually prefer churches style chicken instead of Asian style chicken for some reason. Looking forward to the issan trip.
Yeah, Buckees, is Huge 👍
Flying J still a good stop in the US, unless yr in Texas, find a Bucees
I recently did a road trip in Thailand and I only stopped at PTTs ....... 2 reasons.....1 they always had nice toilets....2 they always had a 7 Eleven. The cafe amazon would have been a bonus if we wanted to stop for a longer break
Your buddy there looks like the paella guy at the weekend market in Bangkok.
What about "break-downs"?
- Is there a nationwide "towing" service?
If not, how do you get towed off the road to the repair shops?
--Note: I called several garages in Udon Thani region and none had towing services. (at least not I could find with my limited 'Thai" Language..)
ขอบคุณครับที่มาเทื้ยวประเทศไทย คนไทยยินดีต้อนรับครับ
PTT is the only place I buy fuel for my Vstrom. Just look for that yellow pump to get non ethanol fuel for your bike. Not all PTT have non-ethanol pumps.
never paid for air ever in Australia Lucas. Fuel similar price to here right now.
Loving the use of the word petrol 😆
PTT for petrol, amazon frappe and a 7 eleven ham cheese toastie. Even better if the urinal has a nice view over a rice field.
Haha, yeah some great views from some of those toilets actually.
Shell is my preferred gas I use the v-power also in my harley and Ram hemi engine
Agree PTT are best by miles - decent fuel prices, clean toilets and a 7/11 for a coffee and a toasted sandwich, ideal when you can't face a Thai breakfast when on a bike trip.
5 star chicken in ptt station good to try🎉
I was at a PTT in Kanchanaburi and Amazon girls would take your order at the pump while you’re gassing and bring your drink out to you!
wow!!! nice brother. thank you krub
Yeah, it’s pretty neat having those sort of facilities at a gas station. Thailand and Pattaya never stops amazing me🙏for the video Lucas 👍
Totally agree!
Hey Lucas, you showed the best feature of Thai gas stations at 2:30 but didn't comment on it. The open air urinals on the outside back wall of the restroom building are a great idea. It is so much nicer to use than having to go inside the stinking restroom.
Maybe not my next time in Pattaya but I see a Thailand road trip in my future so thanks for this information.
Great place for a road trip 👍👍👍
being listed on the stock exchange does not have any relationship to whether or not it is majority state owned. There are thousands of examples of State owned companies across Asia who list as a way of getting cheap money. They can be listed, but most will keep majority of shares held the the state. Do not conflate being listed with nullifying State Majority Ownership.
Quality viewing lucas 👌
Thanks I lived in Pattaya and did not know
Awesome Lucas, looks like a great pit stop. "Petrol Station" I think you've been hanging around too many UK expats. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, will do!
The great thing about PTT, but pretty much all 'branded' fuel stations in Thailand is that they ALL have good clean restrooms.
As for 'free air', thank goodness paying for air has never been a thing in Australia, but of course that means there isn't much of a driver for the 'Servo' to keep the equipment working and available.
Thats funny bc I just stopped at the worlds largest truck stop just west of the quad cities in Iowa! Lol
ESSO??? I hadn't heard of that in years!! Has WA-WA made it's way
out there ?? They seem to be pocking up every were in the States..
OMG, wish there was a Wawa here, love them sandwiches
@@Rides4Kickz
Don't know how long You been gone from
the States but down South here WAWA
is all over 7-11 who are looking old and
not to maint,, and not a place to eat.. for sure..
My favorite truck stop was Petro, clean showers, great food. Are there truck stops in Thailand? This was a great video
There are large truck accommodation all over Thailand. belongs to the Department of Highways
No bars at them yet? Lol. 1 in the UK put the first pub/bar. Just outside London caused a bit of controversy.
Haha, imagine that, bar, grill and gogo 🤣🤣
How is the comm, do the have English signs or speakers? Just wondered
Yes, most things along the highway, including gas stations have English signs. You will generally find someone these days who speaks a little English at least, it was included in the school curriculum years ago.
If you go to real country side you almost only see PTT stations. I am not sure that every of those stations great in an economic way. But then the state make sure everyone in the country has access to petrol. I am not sure ESSO, Shell would wanted to have stations in areas with low population.
Here in Denmark you can get air for free at almost every petrol station. You never have to pay for it, but some stations do not have air for tyres.
Have a safe trip then ! 😀
my first and only tinder date (lol) works in a beautiful PTT restaurant with water fountains and all that nice stuff somewhere between bangkok and hua hin
Haha, nice 👍
I stopped by one of these from Bangkok to Pattaya, I never really noticed how you showcasing it, however I thought it was a rest stop like we have in the states on 95.
The similar rest stops are generally found along the motorways here, up country they have them on the secondary roads though.
@@Rides4KickzPtt brand มาตรฐานเดียวกันทั้งประเทศครับ (ถนนหลัก)
Impressive stores all together, but.... Though it can be great and necessary when traveling, you have to wonder how "western" these places are and eliminating the charm of smaller mom-and-pop places that have interesting views of nature. What one hand gives, the other takes away.
They’ll be a serious service station, when they do crispy creme! Flying J fried chicken best ever!
Of all the cities and towns in Issan, I think I like Udon Thani the most ☺️👌🏻
Good choice!
