This was my first gaming laptop. I love this thing. Brought it with a 765m gpu and upgraded to a 980m down the line. It was a great system until I started getting random restarts and couldn't figure out how to fix.
These models are weird about problems, but not too hard to repair
Same, however mine can’t work without being plugged in now. Think it’s a motherboard issue unfortunately
@@Swoop. BATTERY
@@regresoderambo I tried a replacement battery didn’t work, computer won’t even boot with a full charge battery inside unless plugged in
@@Swoop. my 2014 alienware 14 inch ? only work if I press the F1 key when booting up its the battery!!? not a big deal I dont think? for my machine only use it for dawn of wars and Age of Empire games ?
I love this machine. I ran mine with a 4930mx and a 1070, both using aftermarket heatsinks to keep cool. This laptop is a great machine for those who want to start/learn how to modify laptops.
I have an alienware 18 from 2013. Still use it everyday. Playing Path of the righteous today! Play For Honor every day. I think it's been on every day since I got it; that's thousands and thousands of days!! Still works flawlessly.
You have the best laptop restoration videos on TH-cam period. The dedication, hardwork, patience and passion in your work shows without a doubt and I never ever regret subscribing. Keep up the fine work, you are an inspiration to me. I like that final reveal btw!
Great job! The entire video content was great. This guy knows how to produce excellent content.
Man really Love the Restoration and upgrades keepp it up
19:00 like a epic movie !!!! WOW ! Amazing !
So good you have to make it into 2 parts. You never cease to amaze
Just got this for my 11 yr old. Great video. Such a clean restoration. Love the attention to detail
We are now in 2024, though I have other Laptop and a Desktop (gaming one), I'm working right now on a AW 17 R2 (2015) a little different. I love this laptop, it was my first and basically unique gaming laptop (expensive for me in those years), I upgraded it to almost 8.5 TB since it has 4 ssd extra slots, and with the AW Graphics Amplifier (modded in one side of the case so it can fit) can run a 3080. Anyway, what you have done is a SUPERB job, so clean, so smooth, I mean, you tuned it up as a brand new one. Lot of RESPECT for your job!!! And the video edit at the end is like you were promoting AW restoring program (haha), really impresive. Congratulations!!!
Thanks for the online community of Alienware, back in 2015 there was almost no info on the machine, nowdays there are so much stuff that came out and fixes for the machine, it gives me hope to revive my alienware.
I really love the textured final paint layer you make on your restoration, it looks really cool.
Beautiful work. I love these inspiring and interesting videos that you make.
Got this latop at home, was thinking about restoring it after watching your videos. Now I have decided that it will be done!
Your B roll on this is fantastic, seriously good job with this video buddy.
i've followed your video for a long time, really happy to see your progress and improves a lot. Keep up the good works on restoring old hardware.
Thank you bro :D
Great piece of work. Watching you restore old laptops is such a joy. Keep up the good work. By the way I still have my first laptop which is a Toshiba satellite M45 from 2005 with single core Pentium M still in all original condition. Still works great. Haven’t had a single problem except for the battery.
Hi Andrew I am also restoring my Alienware 17 from 2014. I had replaced the power cord, changed the operating system 4 times, and a few other things before I realized the hard drive was bad. A guy I was dating kindly replaced the hard drive, but snuck off with the SSD. LOL I finally got frustrated and bought a new SSD. I could not get the BIOS to recognize the switched boot order. I tried a few different ways. A friend told me to just remove the old hard drive and force the SSD to boot first which was a great idea because I had already mirrored my hard drive on the SSD so it was ready to go. Super stoked. As you know I'm running Windows 10 because there's some rather stupid reasons that she can't run 11. At some point I downloaded a bunch of drivers as well as the Alienware "Command Center." The customized lights on the machine look amazing. It was worth looking up the software.
The machine stutters even on a brand new SSD. Do you know what I have overlooked? Thanks! *If anyone asks I'll tell the funny story of how I got it. :)
Hi, did you try to replace your charger with an original one, same specs? If not you can try this.
How did you get it?
Your restoration video makes me feel very satisfied and very knowledgeable about how to disassemble electronic devices especially laptops
I can't describe his quality of content, it's very detailed and definitely not stingy on knowledge :D
Thank youu bro :D
@@ComputersAndTechAndAndrew No problem man, you inspired many and more to come. You've just made a better future for a lot of people that was either worried they're gonna break their laptops if they open it, or just never know that dust will become carpet after a while. Much respect and love from Malaysia

This was wonderful to watch, amazing work!
Incredible restoration as alway🔥
Love that i repairing all kind of things
7:50 it's not a problem because your not using that gpu the pc uses the intel hd graphics when on dextop just to save some battery, once you enter a game the laptop is more likely to crash
Absolute banger of a vid, nice work
Thank youuu bro :D
Great work, the most deep clean and upgrade for a notebook ever made
Amazing work as always Andrew! This machine is a beast! I'm so glad to see it still rocking after all these years!

Thank you bro :D
I still have this laptop (it’s my first too) and I added some ram and storage. I still use this for gaming. I just plug it into a monitor and a keyboard & mouse and it works great.
Beast looks great 😈😈. That water drop paints looks awesome
I bet that very cinematic lighting at the end took quite a while to set up haha. Your persistence and quality always impresses me
⚡power of creativity⚡
I had this exact model a few years back - Unfortunately got rid of it due to performance issues but I think nowadays I could've fixed them with a bit of care and restoration
I love your restoration keep it up . One day you will have 1m subs

That's awesome @Cat an Andrew this laptop is my favourite. Greetings from Bogotá, Colombia. Good job
"So, what are we going to do?"
"Simply, we gonna do nothing here"
that laptop is happy again. nice one!
The B rolls INSANE!!!
Just 2 questions in my mind
1. What do you do after restoration do you sell it?
2. What all parameters to check before buying a used laptop according to you.
i have one of these and I love it, i put lots of money to it and upgraded everything, got a i7 4940mx, gtx 980m and 32gb ram and i love it, nice video btw.
Can u play all the latest games with these specs? Thx
@@jedg4746 basically almost all, there's some that it cant run but it's very few

YOU KNOW WHAT?.... YOU ARE THE BEST!
Thank youu bro :D
Just watched this on my Alienware 18. Main laptop since new aug, 2013.
just beautiful 😍 I told you before my favorite model line ?.
now you make me want the 2014 alienware 18 from Ebay now!!?....YOU ARE SO VERY SKILLED ? SO MOTIVATING?
18 are better, and still pretty expensive, I'm searching for one to restore but still nobody want to sell it, even in bad condition
these videos are just so good and relaxing
The best in business. Love your videos ❤️
An awesome video. I really want to restore my 2013 UK model with much lower specs (765m, fewer gigs of RAM).
It gave me a lot of unexpected problems down the years but is my favourite laptop ever.
It has a 'permanent battery failure' message now (that I expected as the battery/charging was playing up for years) and it also just turns off when connected to the mains after 2-3 hours. So I would guess there might also be a motherboard issue (?). I turned it on yesterday and before it shut down after a few hours (after Startup Repair had finished) the BIOS diagnostics said there was an excessive heat issue. I have no doubt the insides need a HUGE clean, and likely a repair to the thermal paste/heat sinks.
I don't know whether to start trying to take it apart and fix it all up with a new battery and other parts (I am only a beginner!), or recover all the data from the very old HDD by removing it (there is a lot of priceless family photos etc on there). It's a Windows 7 machine (and I have the discs), which I love, but swapping out the HDD for an SDD means a new install of the OS along with everything else :/
Alienware 15 R1 gtx 970m for the win!!!
I still use this model. I have one with 3D emitter and nvidia glasses and is great for gaming or see movies in 3D
Beautiful colors OMG!!
have a great day
It's always a joy watching ur videos Andrew, keep up the great work
Thank youu bro :D

This is freaking gorgeous!
I got the same laptop i got back when it first came out. Was my very first gaming laptop too. I have a nice pc build, but sadly until i get my own apt i dont have space for it so im going back to my good ole alienware. Its still in perfect condition but i have the money to make it alot better so im trying to upgrade it. I got excited when i saw the same exact screwdriver i have haha. Great video!
Love watching these videos !!
Thank youu bro :D

@@ComputersAndTechAndAndrew Cant wait :D
Another amazing work on modification of laptop😍👍> Will you sell this laptop?? are you keeping all the laptops that you modify it ?
Good work broo
very nice work
Really good work! 👏
amazing video 🙏
Another perfect restoration 👍 KUTGW Man 😉
Thank youu bro :D
Nice cinematic 👌
Cool finds
Nice restoration! I'll watch the other video as well to see some more details.
Also, the only other thing I would have done was added 2TB mechanical disk in the 3rd slot, to have Disk C (512GB MSATA), Disk D (1TB 2.5), Disk E (2TB 2.5 HDD - as there was an empty HDD slot), and Disk F (CD/DVD drive).
3rd and 4th ( instead CD ROM ) can be mechanical, but also can be SSD, max speed :D
@@ComputersAndTechAndAndrew with having 3 storage drives available already, no need to remove CD ROM drive, especially if 3rd drive is 1TB or larger (preferably 2TB mechanical or 1TB+SSD). I don't go for super large SSDs because they cost too much.
I'm not into this repairing too, but if I need to, I take pictures too so I can put the parts in the right place and in the right order again including screws bcoz they do have different size and length sometimes...
not sure if anyone noticed but the keyboard is a completely different layout.
Editing 🔥
If there’s some components burned out on the gpu then some part of it can’t be working correctly. They don’t fit redundant components. Nice resto.
Nicely done 💪
