I'm planning on getting a muzzleloader this summer use triple 7 powder pellets and the Hornady ELD-X, primers are hard to find the Federal 209a primers but I got the Winchester w209, Triple 7 regular and muzzleloader only primers then the Federal MZ 209
I’m looking at getting a muzzleloader. Never had one. I am starting my adventure into western hunting and want a muzzleloader for hunting different seasons. It’s videos like these that are much help in hopefully getting the right equipment before making the purchase. Thanks for the video!
@@suburbanhunt3653 sure you can buy more expensive guns but the cva is one of if not the absolute best guns you can buy as far as muzzleloader goes...I've had the tc pro hunter and sold it and bought the optima and put a nice leupold on it 👍
I was going to mention Thor. I have the same muzzle loader as you and have used Aero lite (because CVA gave them to me) - Bor Lok - TC Shockwaves - Bore Drivers and now Thor. I use Blackhorn as a propellant and will never go back to pellets. TC shockwaves and Aero lites performed terribly on game. TC didn't expand and the Aerolite disintegrated. Zero blood trails and no pass through. Bor Lok is crazy hard hitting and terminal performance. I found Thor to be just as good in performance but a bit better in groupings. Great video
I really wish I would have added Thor to the list when I started this. But I went to a couple Walmart and Sports Academy stores around me here is TN. I grabbed what different ones I could. Powerbelts are in no short supply just before Muzzleloader season. I couldn't find any Thor projectiles. Given the number of comments on the Thors I will be ordering and putting together a video just for them once I land on what powder to use. I can't wait to finish up the pellets so I can get to the loose powders, mainly the BH209. Thank you for watching.
Thank you. I'm glad you found a combo that your gun likes. Nothing better then going into the woods confident that you bullet will find it mark. Thank you for watching.
Accura MR-X v2 .45 powerbelt elr's with magnum load of pyrodex select. Anarchy outdoors full port brake. Powerbelt makes a mean bullet. All rifles are different and lots don't run the recommended charge. Most normal powerbelts call for standard 100 grain load while elr's are suggesting a magnum load. They like to be run hot and with a faster than 1:24" twist. At least in .45. They suggest this for a reason. That being said not every barrel will like the same bullet so trial and error is the only way to know for sure. Good video going to check out that channel you suggested.
Thank you. I completed the 150gr video but it was kind of rush. Have to attempt that the 150 gr groups surprised me. Thank you for watching. I'm getting the materials together for the White Hot Video next.
@suburbanhunt3653 I was running out of BH and bought some 50gr. 777 pellets. After 3 shots I could barely get a bullet seated. So much crud by the breech. Almost no recoil with the 290 gr bullets. The loose 777 still had crud but the performance was on par with BH.
It's my experience that loose powder is more consistent that pellets, I have weighed pellets on a reloading scale and didn't have consistent weights. I use 100gr pyrodex loose powder and a 250gr Hornady sst with great results in a Traditions buckstalker.
I’ve never had the accuracy I would consider good with the pellets so I switched to blackhorn using the 245 Powerbelts could just about put them in the same hole but now that blackhorn is hard to find and u have to mortgage your house to get it I might would try these bore drivers with some white hots maybe
Thank you for the info. I posted the 150gr video and I'm not sure I want the recoil. I'm probably going to stick with this combo. I'm interested in see how it performs on game.
I plan to try the Black Horn 209 soon. Can I ask what weight by scale if possible? I have heard 80 and 84 from other TH-camrs but would love to know what subscribers use.
@@suburbanhunt3653 ive been using 77 by weight.the they dont have too many bullets in the 45 caliber, but the hornady sst shoot real well.i just bought a wolf in 50 caliber so i can use the hornady bore driver and sst.ive shot alot of didderent bullets and those hornadys seem to be the best hands down
If I remember correctly, didn't the hornady fall apart during Ethan's water jug testing? I have always had great accuracy with hornady and powerbelts but only so-so performance on game. I'll never use powerbelts anymore period. I have had great results with hornady sst's but never recovered a deer I shot with the old full bore hornady's. The deer dropped then got up and ran away with no blood trail. Strange right? Give us an update on real hunting performance if you get an opportunity. Good luck
You are correct. I had great blood trail using the Federal BOR locks. The last muzzle loader we did has me using them. Deer went 30 yards or so and it looked like someone punched a hole in a red paint can. Extremely easy to follow. I plan on using the CVA Optima the rest of the season to show just that
Hey first time seeing your videos and I like muzzleloaders too. I shoot triple 7 pellets also 100gr load, I changed from 150gr just because prices and hard to fine. Curious how your 150 video goes so I'll be looking for it. I shoot the Accura V2 50cal and like it. Good video I'll be checking out more of them.
Honestly at this point I keep my shots within 100yards when running muzzleloader. I may see about a farther shot next year but I will be using a loose powder for that. These pellets, in my opinion, aren't creating tight enough groups to push to 200yards. That being said if I was presented with a 105 or 110 yard shot I would most likely aim High shoulder. It would have to be something worth tracking. Thanks for watching.
True.. unfortunately in TN you can only use slugs for deer and only in Gun season. For this I used Remington Sluggers in 12 gauge. But the only use is WMA that don’t allow Rifles.
Absolutely!! I plan to do a ladder test with BH209 and Barnes T-EZ in 250 and 290gr to show the benefits of loose powder. Something just not possible with pellets. Thank you for watching
