    I just got my Van back from the mechanic's, moving it to a buddies place where we can work on it! The n=mechanic gave up and wanted to put a new motor in it (94 Step van with TH400)
    If the EFI gives us any grief, I'm going to swap a carburetor in .. once we get it going I'm going to save up for Holley's Sniper II and that'll put it back to EFI. Plan is to grab a new manifold, and a used carb in the intern.
    Great video thanks!

    Awesome setup!! Carb is a much better upgrade from the stock tbi, I will encourage you to get a afr guage. Afr guage will tell you where your carb is rich or lean, thats the best thing I did when I went to a carb, very easy to tune and rejet with the afr guage! I believe carbs are better than efi, less wiring and sensors that fail!

      @@jonathanlawson4667 Actually I just switched over to a carb from EFI.
      I found that it is much better in that I get better gas milage and much better throttle response. Yes, it is easier as well. Way less problems and issues. I have a 1990 chevy truck and went from 6 mpg around town to just under 10 mpg.
      Hyway is right on @15 mpg.
      No regrets other than I wish I had done it sooner.

    When my tbi was heating the manifolds cherry red it was the collar on the distributor broke and was retarding the timing and letting the combustion straight into the manifolds. Lean heats up the engine hot exhaust is fuel burning in the exhaust.

    @ crewyou07, you're saying your truck engine can breathe so much easier and has more power, just think how much better your truck would run with a set of long tube headers with at least 2-1/2 inch dual exhaust with a set of non restricting turbo mufflers, along with a electric radiator cooling fan.

    On the passenger side: where did you vent that valve cover tube ? I see how you did the power booster and the vent on the driver side looks like rear tube from tbi.

    • @crewyou07
      @crewyou07  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Jason, my passenger side cover only has the PCV provision. The drivers side, yes I used the tube from the TBI. What I did was I took the flange that was on top of the original TBI unit and put it on the carburetor. Then I took the tube and flipped it upside down to make up for the difference in height between the two set ups. The power booster is connected to a fitting in a spot provided on the back of the intake. I explained that very procedure in one of the five videos I made pertaining to this swap.

  • @Steve-kk5xl

    Awesome videos!!! I bought a 1987 chevy V10 and the 305tbi overheated and blew up on the drive home. Swapped in a good running 78 350. Added headers and dual exhaust, radiator, new carb, HEI distributor, alt, starter and fuel pump (I disconnected the sending unit after watching a different video 1st) With a full charge it starts fine, however, the alternator makes a bad noise when the excitor wire is hooked up to it and the negative post gets extremely hot. When I disconnect the alt wire it sounds and runs great but obviously it's not charging. All of my grounds are clean and have good connections. Any suggestions before I take it to a wiring specialist?

    • @crewyou07
      @crewyou07  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good day friend, mmm are you using a wire that was provided with the alternator for the exciter?

    • @Steve-kk5xl
      @Steve-kk5xl 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@crewyou07 Good day to you, yes, I believe so. It's an older 3 wire alternator. And it runs fine on my 85 k-20. I'm not the greatest mechanic and I think I'm calling the "trouble wire" the excitor incorrectly. When it is actually the positive to the battery. That's what my friend called it. And, it stuck in my head. It's the large positive wire from the alternator to the positive battery post that makes the neg battery post hot, when hooked up. The 2-wire plug is still connected but not this other wire. So right now, it's running on battery only. I've only driven it for a few miles after the swap. Thank you for taking the time to respond and any help you can give. Steve

    • @Steve-kk5xl
      @Steve-kk5xl 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi crewyou07, I took the alternator in and it checks out good and absolutely no whining from it. My 2-wire connector was corroded and caked with dirt and maybe oil, so I replaced it and was hoping that was my problem. I also changed a few other wires with questionable terminals and cleaned all grounds, etc. When I started the truck, the alternator is still whining so I shut it down. I'm almost ready to swap the alternator off my 85 k20 or this one onto it, but I'm worried that I will mess that truck up. What are your thoughts? Any suggestions on why it is making a bad whine and the negative post hot?

    Great work sir. Very thorough and specific. Too many people ramble on and completely vear off topic. You're explanation was dead on accurate and informative.
    Question. I recently purchased a 1987 Silverado V10. 1/2 ton 5.7 EFI with horrible fuel consumption. I am hoping to duplicate your exact build. To your knowledge is my 700R4 electronically controlled? I'm still learning about these EFI motors. It is also a Jasper crate as well. Thank you

    • @crewyou07
      @crewyou07  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Mando for your kind words. As far as your 700R4, pre 1991 is not electronically controlled. If your transmission is original to your 1987 truck then you the better of the bunch. The only thing you will have to do for the transmission to shift properly is to hook up what is called the “tv cable” and you will be good to go!

    Bought a gen 1 tbi crate, ordered a street warrior intake. Correct center bolt angles. NO rear water crossover passage. Also gaskets that fit the heads has the back passages all but blocked, just a small drill hole. I read that GM had trouble with gasoline pooling in the back runners of the tbi set up. I guess getting the back of the motor hotter flashed off the gas heading to #7 and #8. Called weiand and they said to drill and tap a crosser over hose. F that. Does anyone know what intake dual/spreadbore that has tbi center bolt angle (don't want to mill out the angle and use adapters) and has rear coolant passages? Did chevy hire some Ford designers for this shit, and jegs won't answer the phone anymore.

    Gonna try to make this a short question, I have a 94 k1500 tbi. Swapped with a nv3500 manual trans. Motor might be shot but do you have any insight on the carb swap for the manual trans? It does have electronic clips on it (I think for the speed sensor or something) so I know the computer has to read something from it but I wasn't sure if any problems would occur for the swap. Awesome video man, looks really good!

Looks like all in need is to power up the orange wire to 20A fused battery and two pink wires to key on power to two 20A fuses, grounds, hook up the tps, rpm signal, and map sensor and I’m in business. My own truck, the Ram, already had a 5 speed in it so running a carb on it was pretty easy.

      Hello Will, Ok I am guessing you want to know what to do with your return line? If you are using the factory in tank fuel pump you must use a 3 port fuel pressure regulator and put the return line to the port marked "return" so to insure you do not burn up the fuel pump.. if you are using an aftermarket electric pump or a mechanical pump you can eliminate the return line all together.

      @crewyou07  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Good day Gilbert, I have the 4L80e. Yes, I did have problems with my transmission after the swap and here were the problems (1) I had an intermittent extremely hard shift from 1st to 2nd. (2) My transmission would not kickdown during passing mode and It would drop down from overdrive to 3rd and would not go back into overdrive. The problem I found for each are as follows: My extremely hard shift from 1st to 2nd was a broken wire on the connector for the speed sensor at the tail shaft of my transmission. Fix? re soldered the wire to the connector. My no kickdown, or overdrive? was a faulty TPS that came with the Holley kit I purchased for the swap. Fix? Replaced the TPS (throttle position sensor) and adjusted it to 0.5 volts at idle and made sure it was between 4.1 to 4.7 volts at full throttle. The throttle position sensor must be within those parameters for your transmission to operate properly.

    • @crewyou07
      @crewyou07  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello Dale, This is going to be a long answer. Yes I did notice a little more power going to a carburetor. It was in the mid range band but here is the reason why. Before my conversion I notice a slow decrease in power with my K 2500 over a 3 week period of time. My diagnosis lead me to the TBI system. The repair would have superseded the cost of doing the conversion so that's why I did it. It was pointed out to me by some folks who commented on this conversion is to change the cylinder heads. Apparently these TBI heads do not flow very well so by changing the heads you will most certainly add some ponies. Or as a lot of folks are doing also is adding a hotter camshaft and headers. I was not looking to build a muscle truck so I kept it as simple as possible.

      I have a 1990 and it has the 700R4/4L60 with a TV (throttle valve) cable. It is not electronic and does not require the TPS for it to function. The only electronics it has are the speed sensor for the speedometer and the reverse switch for reverse lights. But, I believe that if you have the 7004R/4L60E (E for electronic), which was introduced in the mid '90s, you need to retain the TPS for trans and converter lock-up function.
