I enjoy it too, but am glad for those who have already done it and gave pointers on what wires to use. We are down to about 5 wires in comparison to a couple of dozen for the TBI setup. Thanks
Good stuff George ! You do a great job of detailing each step ! Dealing with wiring that is very important ! Thank you my friend for sharing your journey !! God bless you and yours !!! In Jesus Name !!!! Eddy
Delco 10SI molded pig tail alternator connector that can be bought at an auto store is an exact match to plug into that HEI distributor red lead #10 ga is ignition ,white #16 ga will work for tac if needed the plug clips in and won't vibrate off.I tried just a spade terminal and it kept falling off. I carefully dissected my throttle cables and shortened them ,3 years in and no problems
to make it easier and not have to splice 2 wires together to go to the tach side of the distributor you can cut the pink wire going to the fuel injector, there’s a green and white wire going to the fuse block, splice them together and you should have key on power to the fuel pump. worked on my 1995 k2500 with a 454.
Great work there George that is coming along nice ! That is going to really up the dependability .. God Bless your mission in this project . Your doing fine , Step by step !!
Looking good George! Sounds like you have a good source to guide you in this installation. That wiring is something that can be difficult, going from electronic system to the manual setup. I'm pullin' for you George and interested in your progress.
If you added the list of parts and part numbers that you are using,it would help out other people that want to do this mod. The intake that I used was from a 4.3 outboard engine that was scraped out ,very economical
Is your engine a Vortec? My manifold is a second hand Edelbrock unit, hence the 4 bbl setup. When I get it all working then I am planning on doing an overview with parts and problems along the way that will be a more user friendly video for someone wanting to do this swap. Right now I am more into documenting my process (even for my own benefit along the way.). Thanks for your input. Did you make a video of your conversion?
It is part of the TPS wiring setup. You can find it here: th-cam.com/video/M0YVxovoHVo/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=TheShadeTreeFix-itMan Hope this helps and thanks for following along!
I sure hope so, but I keep running into hiccups along the way, like trying to get the starter changed (broken nose), which I spent 3+ hours at yesterday and still couldn't get it to drop down. Hopefully I have found a solution without pulling the motor...Thanks for following along
The wires to the modulator just hook into that part of the cap, it is only the tac and bat hookups that you have to worry about. Hope this helps and thanks for stopping by.
I have an 93 with a 7.4 and a 4l80 transmission Will this affect the transmission shifting? I’ve heard of issues with the transmission burning up after a short time. What is your experience?
I can't give an answer, since my transmission was different and my truck burned up shortly after the completion of this conversion. No fault of the conversion, just a leaking carburetor. Sorry.
I'm following the plans of others when it comes to the wiring. Mostly it's about knowing which wire serves which purpose. The proof will be when I get ready to actually start it again. Trying to get the starter replaced has become a major chore at this point... Thanks for stopping by.
You can hook it up if you prefer or just leave it alone and depend entirely on the mechanical advance in the distributor. I hooked it up for better performance on mine. Thanks for stopping by.
What kind of carb are you using? If it is a 4bbl on a stock or aftermarket manifold it should be pretty straight forward. Very similar to this installation, except it's on a V6. Of course you will have to replace the original ignition system with an HEI unit like I did here.
9-4-2022 you can mount the carburetor any kind of way you want ,sideways backwards, don't matter carburetor will operate the way it's made to operate. You can get a steel plate drill and tap it and you have your homemade carburetor adapter to your intake manifold, gasket paper and red high temperature gasket sealant. I have done it twice on a Toyota Corolla carburetor swapped off a 85 Chrysler 318 engine and Mazda pickup truck swapped it with a carburetor of a 85 Chrysler 318 engine 2 barrel and they both work excellent Toyota 15 years now Mazda truck 8 years now ( No wires needed.)
9-4-2022 I don't think you will need to use the throttle positioning sensor on a carburetor. You shouldn't need to on a raw carburetor ( no wires ). I did it on my truck. All she want is air in a fuel .
The throttle positioning sensor was for the benefit of the transmission. Unfortunately, it is all a moot subject now, since my truck burned... th-cam.com/video/sZuAXkJ2ik8/w-d-xo.html
This is my favorite part the wiring your doing great George!

Thank you so much Eddy. I especially appreciate the blessing.
So much fun in so little space.Good going so far George.Good luck.
Thank you Bry, space is at a premium under this hood for sure.
What a project George!
You can say that again. It seems that in the last 2 days even the simple mechanical things are fighting me. Thanks so much Matt
Man you really help me out with the purple wire with the white stripe👍
Glad this video was helpful and thanks for stopping by.
Can’t wait to hear it run.
You and me both. Thanks for following along.

Thanks for the hint on modifying your throttle cables. I was going to try it figuring I have nothing to lose. I have ordered an HEI plug already.
Firing order on distributor for a 57 V8 carburetor

Thanks so much.
I planned on using the locar universal throttle cable when I do my swap, and locar 4l60 kick down cable
That should work, I just modified my original to keep costs down. Thanks
Your doing good George. I'M keeping my fingers crossed!!
Thank you Bob

Great job George where did you get the water neck at.
I modified the original to fit around the a/c unit. Thanks for stopping by.
Can I add a hei and keep the spiders
I don't think so since the ignition is tied through the computer to the fuel injection system. Thanks for stopping by and taking a look with me.
Currently in the same boat
Great stuff, but what about the 4l60 wiring? Thanks
It is part of the TPS wiring setup. You can find it here: th-cam.com/video/M0YVxovoHVo/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=TheShadeTreeFix-itMan Hope this helps and thanks for following along!
So I can hook up the purple wire to the msd box tach wire when I install my msd pro billet distributor
I would think so. Thanks for stopping by
You will have a dependable setup there when your done George.

Lookin good
Thank you.
Good info!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for stopping by.
Making good progress George
Thank you Tom
What do I do about the wires to the modulelater on the HEI distributor?or should I just worry about the tac and bat hook up?
The wires to the modulator just hook into that part of the cap, it is only the tac and bat hookups that you have to worry about. Hope this helps and thanks for stopping by.
I'm going with holley 4 barrel
I used a Holley 4 barrel too. It worked well.

Order a throttle cable for an 88 Itl work just fine
Too late, but thanks for the suggestion, one of my viewers might appreciate it. Sadly, my truck burned on the first road test...
you are a smarter guy than I am,, that wiring would really mess me up.

eBay has a kitdown part That work For Your Car
Sadly, my truck burned to the ground on it's maiden voyage. ::: th-cam.com/video/sZuAXkJ2ik8/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=TheShadeTreeFix-itMan
What do you do with the vacuum advance
You can hook it up if you prefer or just leave it alone and depend entirely on the mechanical advance in the distributor. I hooked it up for better performance on mine. Thanks for stopping by.
Love my hit rod s10 truck
Oh yeah!
You get you a plug iff ebay to plug up your dist.
If you are referring to the vacuum advance, I didn't plug it, but used a hose off the carburetor to make it work.
I need link and instructions for carb install on a l31 5.7 vortec for a v6 to v8 in a 1996 gmc jimmy

Not a kit, but putting things together as needed. Thanks for stopping by.
What year of Chevy
This was on my 2002 GMC Sonoma, but it would be the same on a number of years of Chevy S10.

Glad i got older 4 .3 90 models lot easier
I hear ya. Thanks for stopping by and taking a look.
