    This is the removal of the old fuel injection system (TBI) and new install of a 4 barrel carburetor. My Blazer is 1986 but had an engine from an 88 or newer. I could not pass smog with the new system, so this is my attempt at changing back to carburation.
    Using :
    Edelbrock 1406 carb, 600CFM 4 bbl
    Edelbrock 3706 Aluminum intake manifold w/ egr

    Those old tbi heads, when going to a carb make sure you have the old style intake gaskets. The tbi gaskets had solid water passageways (on the rear of motor) with a small drill opening. The tbi intakes, pooled up gasoline on back runners. Chevy's fix was to heat up the back of the motor to flash liquid gas. Your carb motor will overheat if you use tbi gaskets. Edelbrock performer 2104, spread bore has the center holes drilled at the angle needed. The tbi's made torque to 4500 rpm then fell on their faces. Best thing to do is move from California and throw the tbi heads at the state line. Put on vortec, or dart or something and don't look back unless it's the cars your passing!

    I’m doing the same thing on my ‘89 Ford F-250. Thankfully the intake manifolds are direct swaps. I’m making my fuel system a return system rather than a dead head system to keep vapor lock problems at a minimum.
    So far the best takeaway it that it has really cleaned up the engine bay. I’m in the middle of the process just now so I don’t know how the performance will be changed but the FI was just all cobbled together by the previous owner and ran really crappy. Hoping for a significant boost in power.

    I put a new fuel filter on,oil change siphoned the gas put in seafoam, finally got it running for a few minutes before it died. After watching your video I definitely want to go 4 barrel. Could you explain a little more about the bracket you had to make.

    • @wolfwalker23
      @wolfwalker23  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is an edelbrock bracket that I bought. some kind of kit. I then put some plumbers tape which just extended the bracket a little to fit on the carb. It works great and is adjustable.

    • @roberts5118
      @roberts5118 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's not plumbers tape. Plumbers tape is Teflon tape used for sealing pipe threads. You're using straps that plumbers use to hang pipes in a ceiling. Maybe it's called pipe hanging tape. Definitely not plumbers tape though lol. Just trying to make it easier when you ask the clerk in the plumbing aisle at the store.

      Hey, so I have two older model chevys and they never checked the block numbers or how the bolts are configured on the heads. Maybe some shops might actually look at the block number but I doubt it. As long as you have a carb and engine size that is the size your VIN is assigned to , you should be fine. The TBI wont pass, but you can swap all that after.

      EGR is required for California smog tests. It sucks, but yes. The wiring to the ignition is a lot simpler without the computer. Buy an HEI pigtail for 5 bucks or less and just hookup the wires that are already there, black, red, and run the green to a tach if you have it.

    • @wolfwalker23

      The bushings are so that a straight up and down bolt, will push diagonally on the slanted manifold. If you are using an old manifold, on a newer than 88 block, you would have to drill them out. If you have an old block and manifold you are fine. If you have a new block and a new manifold you are fine. My old manifold ended up worked ok after drilling and buying the bushings, but then I replaced it with an edelbrock intake that had the new bolt pattern but also fit a carb.

There’s a cable from the transmission that seems like it wants to go to the carb but it’s not long enough and I just hooked up a wire with a lock to the gas pedal and was curious on if the cable that’s connected to the transmission vital? • @wolfwalker23
      @wolfwalker23  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      More than likely, that is a kick down cable. When you floor it, that cable gets pulled and drops the tranny down a gear. This is for quick acceleration. If you do not have it in use, it will not harm anything, but you might miss out on that power when you are trying to pass someone or go quick off the line. My cable has been broken on my Monte Carlo for sometime now and its just fine. Not as quick but not harmed.

      The transmission is a 700R4. It is controlled by a Wire that goes to the carburetor linkage along with the throttle cable. It is called a TV cable. The 350 turbo tranny is also controlled by something similar "kick down cable". These are both mechanical and non electric or computer. You can't tell the difference between a 700R4 and a 4L60E by the oil pan as they are nearly the same. If the transmission has a large 18-pin electronic connector above the passenger side pan rail, it's a 4L60E, as seen here. If it has a cable connection near the cooler lines on the passenger's side, that's a 700R4. **** It says the 4l60e wasn't in use until 1993. so its probably a 700r4 if overdrive or a turbo350 if it has 3 gears.

      One more question, does your blazer have a check engine light? Not sure if doesn't have one or if bulb is out?

      I have never seen it come on. I don't think there is one.

      @@wolfwalker23 CA. If your check engine light doesn't come on, you fail smog instantly. Yeah I made up my mind, going to keep it with AZ license plate, because I'm moving there in the near future. So I'm going to keep it card. Screw smog. Thanks again.

    Did u pull the pump out of the tank thoe

      when I bought the truck it had no pump in the tank, and an electric pump on it for the TBI. That TBI pump is too much PSI for a carb, so I bought a medium strength pump with a regulator before the carb set at 4.5 psi. The pump always provides enough pressure, so I never worry about the tank pump. Make sure to use the fuel pressure gauge / regulator to check for that constant pressure though.

    So I have a 1993 Silverado I’m installing a carbureted 350. I think I have a 4l60. Can I remove the computer and wiring harness too?

      This forum thread tells all the how tos involving that tranny : www.s10forum.com/forum/f10/how-to-carb-swap-and-keep-the-4l60e-461481/

      You’ll need a carb with a throttle position sensor to control the trans. A Holley or a quadrajet made from 1985 or 1986 with a tps or your other options would be to use a 700R4 trans or a standalone controller for you current one.

      I did this, if I recall the speedometer is controlled by the computer, so it needed to stay anyhow.

    Did you have reset the distributor or just sat it back in?

    • @wolfwalker23
      @wolfwalker23  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need a new distributor when changing this. The distributor on the EFI system uses a distributor with a detached coil. The system on the carburetor uses a distributor with the coil on top of it.

    Did you use the tbi in tank fuel pump and just regulate it down?

    • @wolfwalker23
      @wolfwalker23  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had no fuel pump in the tank. I have an electric fuel pump after tank on the chassis. I have a fuel pressure regulator right before my carb, dropping pressure down to 4psi. My engine has no slot for the mechanical fuel pump due to the year. I was forced to use the electric pump.
