  • We set out to determine which vane was the most accurate and what configuration offered the most efficient arrow flight. You would be surprised what we found out. Spoiler alert parachuting effect is not a myth but is hard to achieve with modern bows. check out the blog post to go along with this video to help with the explanation of which vane is the best to go with. We explain parachuting effect, we talk about spine and how it effects efficiency, and of course what vane we liked the best. johnstallone.me/?p=4805

This is really interesting. Thank you, John, for all your hard work to do these tests. Great stuff.

Hi John, good testing. Makes me wish I had a LabRadar. Your results pretty much mirror mine, though I have noticed more drop at 80 with 6deg offset than I'd have expected based on weight. Granted, I was testing with 3d printed fletching which likely has a higher drag coefficient. Another interesting thing I found, is that penetration on the target decreases with greater rotation with broadheads, up to 15% with a 6deg LH vs a 1deg RH at 20 yards in a quick test. But of course stability and flight trump that minor loss IMO.

Great work! I appreciate the data as opposed to theory.
I would be interested to also see how much speed a heavy arrow 550 plus loses versus a mid weight 450 grain. Great video!
