Try the tac vanes; I was hesitant because so many people talk about the glue-ability. I tried them and they are no more difficult than the aae vanes but they're cement on the shaft. If they are coming off they're taking the arrow wrap with them. Super stiff and fly great.
Chrisbee!!! I use the Heat 3 fletch for tourneys; Xvane 4 fletch for hunting. Both are stiff and quiet! Real fond of a therma-cell for skeeters... 100% works!
The purpose of vanes is to generate "lift" to rotate/spin the arrow. The taller the leading edge the more lift - a tall narrower sail/wing creates more lift than a shorter broader sail /wing - with same surface areas. Longer lower profile vanes will create less lift and stabilize less than a taller shorter profile vane. Aerodynamics. What level of noise will a deer react to - 5 decibels is less than 7 db - but does that make a difference to a deer - or will he try and duck both?
I tested the following at 80 yards for the upcoming hunting season, and the quietest to loudest for me were: 1. Bohning Heat/Tac Driver 2.75 2. AAE Max Stealth 3. Q2i-Fusion X-II 4. Bohning Blazer 5. 2" GT Raptor If I had to give an edge between the Heat and Tac Driver on sound, I'd probably lean slightly toward the Heat, but I like the idea of a 3 fletch TAC vs a four fletch with the Heat vane for fixed heads at long range. Less weight in the back. Thanks for the video. I love the process of tweaking.
I have loved the Heats for my hunting arrows (this is just something I’ve heard but the heats are supposed to have the same surface area as a blazer and steer broad heads just as well) I haven’t checked this yet
Yup,.. It takes, 3 of, the 2.7 inch AAE Max Stealth's or, Bohning X-3, 3" Vanes with, 2 or 3 Degrees of Helical / OffSet,.. to "control" / Spin,.. most Fixed, B-H's ! THREE of the 2.88" long, VaneTec Swifts and 3 inch, VT V-Maxes also,.. "Get it, Done" with, 3 Degrees of, Helical. I'd AVOID all 2.5 inch or shorter Vanes,.. UN-Less going, 4 Fletch with, Fixed B-H's
I am going to fletch some arrows with the 2.25 X vanes. Do you like 3 or 4 fletch with fixed blades? Do think 3 vanes would have enough steering? Thanks!
My love from Bohning is the Zen vanes in a four-fletch configuration. AMAZINGLY quiet! I'm testing them out on six arrow setups with the parabolic competition with different arrow setups - My Dangerous Game 250 at 31.5”/50- grain brass insert (amazing. I call this setup”Silent Death.” Other structures: Axis 260/31.5/50, Axis 30/75, ICS 300 30/ no insert, ICS 300 50 (reg insert/ bushing AND collar feathers). The last is a FLYER - 297fps and silent! I definitely notice the difference in parabolic shapes vs shield cuts. I believe this is also in conjunwith my Prime CT9 70#/32”DL. (I'm a shot guy at 6’6”/340) The absolute worse set up for me, is a three-fletched Blazer. They whistle in flight at my weight and setups. But others absolutely LOVE the Blazers!
Neighbour to the rear of your property steps out of bushes with arrow protruding from chest; “C’mon Chris, we talked about this.” 😜 Love the channel and all the instruction man.
Love the videos, I really hope you do a follow up with your thoughts on the vanes as you shoot them more. It would also be interesting to know your thoughts or see a test with those vanes and a couple of different broadheads. I am sure mechanical will work with any of them, but will there be a difference when you put on your average fixed blade? I went with the heat vanes this year( I have run blazer the past 4 years) on axis arrows. We will see how they work.
Would you be willing to do an update to this video? Could you shoot more groups and then show us where the arrows group and which groups are bigger or smaller? Would you be able to do a video about shooting in windy conditions (perhaps you already have??)? Perhaps you could do some groups with different offset for the same vane, and let us see how the arrows group? Thanks for informative content.
Got the New, 3 inch X .48 tall, Bohning X-3 Vanes ( Lighter Wt than, old X Vanes ) coming, to Compare to, 2.7" Max stealth, W/ 3 Degrees of Helic. for my 3 Bladed, B-H's. Heard that, the Heats, WON'T "steer", the FIXED B-H's well, out of, "Some" Bows. They ARE, Very accurate Vanes with, the Mechanical B-H's and, Field Points, tho !
What about noice level? Found out that Blazer type of vanes are, by far, the loudest!! They were about 70 dB, and vanes like Max Stealth were about 60 dB, bare shaft 50 dB.
Nice video and interesting. I don't understand that you can hear the arrows. I can't - but ok, my hearing is also not the best. :-) Plus I don't need a quiet vane as such. I have allways used parabolic vanes and I have almost allways used Easton Diamond or AAE. I don't know if they are especially good, but I like them. I use size 280 for my 3D arrows and 235 for my slightly thinner but way lighter long distance / outdoor target archery ACC arrows.
Good content and great form. I am trying to mimic your form. My problem is that my pin doesn’t stay on my aiming spot, so I get trigger happy; though since I changed my draw technique (and bought a new bow), my shots are more consistent and with less shoulder fatigue. Keep it up, man!
I was always told a straight vane is quieter than a twist vane. Also a straight vane is faster less drag. It’s been about 15 years ago sense I quit bow hunting just getting back into it . Please explain if I’m wrong love to hear the new thoughts on it.
Hey Chris, you should look into the spartan mosquito eradicators....you add warm water to them and shake them...then hang them along your property on the perimeters.
Try feathers and feather burner. You can make any fletching shape, any length any height. I am very pleased with the result. When I copied the dimensions of plastic vane into feather the arrow flight was better in my opinion. However this is only my opinion and I believe, that there will be a lot of disagreement :-).
Thus dude dies this EVERY DAMN DAY! For those of you that think you can do better... Post it. We'll watch and compare. Thanks @chrisbee for the content 🙌
For bowhunting I fletch my 500sp with 4 inch feather slightly right helical, cut the arrow to 26 inches in length and align the broadhead with the vanes. .No point shooting above 90 ft cause you might miss the vital spot or just hurt the animal.
Have you ever thought about trying 4 vane arrows. I’ve been using 4 vane arrows for a year now and they perform amazing in windy environments and are very forgiving when you make a bad shot.
When you have one coloured string, you want to keep it splitted in case of peep work or something like that done. The piece of serving material between of the two main bundled is for that. It is just fuzzed of shooting.
Nice video, i love the Musik you choose for your videos it gives them a cool laid back kind if feel, like chilling out and just having fun with archery stuff. Love it :-)
Hey Chris loved the video!! One thing I would like to suggest is shooting the HEAT vanes with a broad head, because I could not get them to fly right with a broad head. I tried different brands of broad heads different weights everything and could not get them to fly right. You are a professional Archer so you my know exactly how to tune them. Keep the Vids coming there great 👍
Fixed B-H's NEED something Close to or, longer than,,.. 3 inches long, to Spin them,.. Properly. Three Heats, WON'T get it Done "usually" with, Fixed Heads. The 2.7" AAE Max Stealth's are just "enough" and very Popular for, a Reason
I ain’t first but always going to watch the videos in the first 10 mins that it is released. Liked the vid well the ad was going. Keep up the hard work Chris!

What do you look for when you are changing vanes
I did a similar test. The 3" Bohning X vanes worked best for me. We'll see what works best when I build up some new arrows
Yup,.. It takes, 3 of, the 2.7 inch AAE Max Stealth's or, Bohning X-3, 3" Vanes with, 2 or 3 Degrees of Helical / OffSet,.. to "control" / Spin,.. most Fixed, B-H's !

Love this kind of testing! Keep these videos coming! Would love to see a more in depth test of different configurations!
Thermacell brother!!
I am going to fletch some arrows with the 2.25 X vanes. Do you like 3 or 4 fletch with fixed blades? Do think 3 vanes would have enough steering? Thanks!
Great video! What do you think of the bohning x vanes in 2.25 for hunting? I have only used the regular 2 inch blazers. TIA!
6:26 Chris bee actually missed the freakin target
He bleeds

How do you like your DG? I have a last years mamba 31 and ordered this years mamba 36. Have you been able to compare the DG to their other bows?
Hey Chris, two suggestions...a phoneskope for use on your spotting scope would work really well and a thermacell for the bugs!!!
Neighbour to the rear of your property steps out of bushes with arrow protruding from chest; “C’mon Chris, we talked about this.” 😜 Love the channel and all the instruction man.

This video is coming in clutch. Just started building new arrows. Good work Chris
Where did you get that big circle target?
I think it's home made
From Lancaster.
Always a good day when Chris bee uploads (:!!
If you have a serrated knife with bigger groves it usually fits perfect on an arrow. Great for taking of fletchings and glue.
Sure helped my wait at the dentist go faster. Love seeing new uploads. Hope to see you in Kentucky, if you go. 👊🏻🐝🏹

Sorry, missed the 1st part of my question. What fletcher do you use ?
Hey Chris, would you be able to do a brief review of the american white tail targets or like the merrell fita target that you shoot on? Thanks Chris!
What’s up Mr. Chris, I love your channel. Keep up the good work. Also, I can’t wait for deer season! Your edits are the best I’ve ever seen.
What type of glue are you using around 4:05 ?
Great video, good information because I am just getting some new arrows fletched.
Great video content! I love the Heat vanes but I been wanting to try those X vanes too!
Got the New, 3 inch X .48 tall, Bohning X-3 Vanes ( Lighter Wt than, old X Vanes ) coming, to Compare to, 2.7" Max stealth, W/ 3 Degrees of Helic. for my 3 Bladed, B-H's.

Finally a video about vanes!! 🔥
Not so much a question about the vanes but do you always use a limb driven rest? For hunting?
What is that clicking sound coming from your release ? Safety ? Or some type of staging ?
I just ordered the 3" X vanes
What about noice level? Found out that Blazer type of vanes are, by far, the loudest!! They were about 70 dB, and vanes like Max Stealth were about 60 dB, bare shaft 50 dB.
Bow is loud..or is it because your boxed in where u r shooting or ur shooting light areows
Aye man where can i get one of those big targets?
Lancaster archery supplie
Yep for $1000
@@dan12angdg they can keep it 😂
Lancaster from around $450 to $550
Im running the heats this year. They are way quieter than the normal blazers
We’re do you get those targets at the big black ones can you tell me please
Nice video and interesting. I don't understand that you can hear the arrows. I can't - but ok, my hearing is also not the best. :-) Plus I don't need a quiet vane as such. You should try the zingers. Just got mine in and they are super light, super durable, and just slide on and stick there.
This is perfect because I'm building some new arrows and thinking if switching up my veins
Vanes bro
What kind of jig did you use for fletching the arrows
Have you tried the TacVanes? Harder and stronger to clean out exit wounds during pass through. Would love to hear your thoughts.
Should I run 3 or 4 vane with bohning heats, been thinkin 4 vane

Chris, why did you not include any flex fletch vanes?
For bowhunting I fletch my 500sp with 4 inch feather slightly right helical, cut the arrow to 26 inches in length and align the broadhead with the vanes. .No point shooting above 90 ft cause you might miss the vital spot or just hurt the animal.
Do you know where I can buy one of those Morrell FITA targets?
Chris I love your vids it’s always good to see what you’ve been using and when you upload vids I always jump on it because I’m soo board
Have you ever thought about trying 4 vane arrows. I’ve been using 4 vane arrows for a year now and they perform amazing in windy environments and are very forgiving when you make a bad shot.
I have shot everything from 5” feathers to micro plastic vanes and my ears are not good enough to hear any of them 😆. Keep the videos coming
What kind of rest are you using on your Mathews?!?
Curiosity question, whats the purpose of the small piece of string above your peep? Wind?
When you have one coloured string, you want to keep it splitted in case of peep work or something like that done. The piece of serving material between of the two main bundled is for that. It is just fuzzed of shooting.
Hi Chris, nice vid. what poundage bow are you using here?
What do you use for those big circular backstops?
I’ve had shoulder issues for a good while now. I recently bought a tru ball handheld release and I have no pain at all. Why doesn’t it hurt as much?
On a handheld release u use ur fingers more to pull the bow back, but with a index u use ur whole arm
Does anyone know the brand, and or name of the giant round targets that that Chris shoots into in his back yard?
Great Content Chris. Thanks for working through the mosquito issue. Which fletching jig are you using in the video?
Dope vid tho. I have never used the helicule vanes but they are for sure interesting.
Where can I get one of these large round foam targets?
Yes the Mosquito's suck here in Michigan!!!!
So after all this which one was definitely the quietest? Very interested, thanks for vid. Currently shooting normal blazers for hunting
Blazer hard to beat for most applications and skill levels. Easy to fletch.
What's the jig you're using?
Last chance vane master pro
Do you have a magnifier or a peep clarifier on that set up?
You should do this again but put them at different angles to see how it affects spin
Just a question, any reason you don't use wraps?
I love to watch Chris maybe how he tunes and it is just so much fun watching your videos
Have you tried the x3 vanes? If so what'd you think? I just got some im gonna use on some GT ultralight shafts
What kind of glue do you use for your veins?
where do you buy your targets? thanks
What release are you using in this vid?
Does anyone know what happened to bohnings neon yellow color, ive ordered three different sets of them now and they have just bee normal yellow.
Are you running your vanes with a left or right helical?
What fletching jig is that?
love the X 2.25
He’s back! Let’s get it! You rock chris
What jog are you using? I’m in the market and wanted to get a bitzenburger til I saw this one
What grains arrows you shooting ? I’ve been doing this for the past 3 weeks cause I got a new bow
Nice video, i love the Musik you choose for your videos it gives them a cool laid back kind if feel, like chilling out and just having fun with archery stuff. Love it :-)
A decibel meter will split some atoms for sure concerning fletching noise pollution....
Hey buddy. What the weight up front? You should go with a little more foc and let the vanes do the rest.
Get a thermocell patio shield.. you won't even see a mosquito. That pond is a literal breeding area :)
Keep the Vids coming there great 👍
Heat Vanes require a 4 fletch configuration if using a broadhead, and for larger broadheads, you'd be better off with blazers.
I'm 14 and you inspired me to start hunting I archery hunt and I use my bowteck assassin
Connor Carstensen I used to have a Bowtech Assassin. It is a great bow. Good luck.
When you film your videos and hunts do you film everything in 4K or do you switch back and forth between the 4K and 1080?
Great video ! I do the same thing with every dozen arrows I get ! I’ll try 4 different configurations on every 3 arrows to see what works best !
You should try shooting all the arrows at one spot and see if there is a difference in where a certain vane style groups.
I ain’t first but always going to watch the videos in the first 10 mins that it is released. Liked the vid well the ad was going. Keep up the hard work Chris!
I use a therma cell when I shoot in the backyard
Do you find those to be worth the cost of buying pads/butane(propane?). I've been considering picking one up but not sure if its worth it.
Dude please tell me where I can buy those giant disc targets!!!
You should really check out the easy vanes, super cool product that’d go well with this arrow type.
Did you do 3 fletch on all
I’ve been wondering if you were going to do a fletching video. Very informative, keep up the great content!!
Now that my friend is a nice playhouse!
When the grips getting re stocked i need a green one for my vertix
What targets are those?
