Dr. Mailik, thank you for making this video. My post menopausal wife has been suffering with HSDD at least 3 years. She soldiered on until she couldn’t stand any form of intimacy and told me that she was done with sex. It was clear that she no longer desired me after over 40 years of marriage. I felt heartbroken and rejected because our communication and relationship were solid. I blamed myself. I considered stopping cancer treatment because there was little else worth fighting for. She told me that she felt like a failure and that I deserved a better wife. Then I came across your video and asked my wife to watch it. We realized that her gynecologist had given her terrible advice; and that loss of libido and painful intercourse was not inevitable during and after menopause. She now has an appointment with the Director of a center for women’s sexual health at the same local center of excellence where I receive cancer treatment. I was amazed how my wife's libido returned after a year on a low carb ketogenic diet, and then decreased again when she started consuming more carbs again (enough to keep her out of ketosis most of the time). We know diet affects hormones and also the micro biome, which also has direct links with hormones including those concentrated mostly in the brain like dopamine and serotonin for instance.
This is a generalized statement from me, and I am not a doctor. Carbs are needed for making serotonin. Increasing serotonin reduces sexual desire. SSRIs can drastically decrease sexual desire due to them raising serotonin levels. Just my .02 worth.

There are older women who don't have issues. Focus on them if you have a high sex drive. No point in getting far into a relationship with someone who just can't meet your needs.

I have known a number of women that were very healthy but simply had no to very little sex drive and it affected their relationships. Most could not maintain a relationship for more than a year or two and could not fully understand why they could not keep a partners interest even though everything outside the bedroom was great. Very sad.
I would ask them why they want a partner if they have no interest having sex with them. Sounds just like a societal keeping you with the joneses but deep down they just want to be alone or something
@@jp05598I'm one of these women. I love my man, I'm sexually attracted to him and think he's totally gorgeous, but I just don't ever feel like I want to have sex. It is seriously the last thing on my mind and I wouldn't care if I never had it again, lol. Everything is just a lot more different for us than it is for men. They need it more than we do. Biologically, we aren't designed to be banging it out all the time. We are more prone to infections and issues, sex carries higher consequences for us. I get a yeast infection almost every time my partner goes down on me. Sort of takes the fun out of it. Stress affects us way more and sex is not the de-stressor for women that men think it is. Perhaps it's not the women. Perhaps it's just the men constantly wanting to have sex with everything that moves.

My wife has had several symptoms of HSDD and have experienced a majority of the causes you've listed. We've been going through a stressful period in the marriage for months now. However, my wife suddenly noticed a change in her libido yesterday after several months of not feeling aroused the way she used to. In fact, this change comes about a month after she had stopped taking oral contraception. I'm not sure if the two are related but, it's a welcome change that we hope to capitalise on.
There is a link oral contraception do lower lobido in woman. Ironically woman take them in order to have it more but since it prevents ovulation the time when woman want it the most it really is not the best sollution I would say and very unhealthy too. It's amasing that it been at least said that they made the pill for woman because men would not experiment with their hormonal levels. It's sad but do men really want the woman to loose their desire and they want it. There are thankfully more studies now for better contraceptives, but for how long will it take to reach the market? To long I would say!
Yes, the combination hormonal birth control can lower libido. Switching to other types of birth control could return her libido back to normal, or even increase it.
Maybe your wife could take a supplement in order to help her, I found this product hormonal balance and it's supposed to help with issues like this, I bought it now for myself but I have not started eating of it as of yet and can't say how it affected me however. Maybe this product don't even exist where you live but maybe something similar could help your wife?
Also notice how couples with more kids tend to be more emotionally attracted to each other. I think it has something to do with the male sperm. Who knows.

I have been through all the male stages from wife stopping all sex, anger, resentment, depression, becoming distant. I know a man that tolerated this lack of sex for a long time then decided to have a sex only gf on the side. It's a broad disease with many possible causes. Some have found relief by going low carb or keto along with cutting out seed oils and only consuming high omega 3 oils (olive, coconut, cod liver). See Dr. Berg or the Swedish American Dr. on youtube.

Maybe to you. I am sorry but if the person does not want to it doesn’t mean automatically there is something wrong with oneself. There are different forms of sexuality such as Demi sexuality or even asexuality, where the person just naturally does not engage want to engage or maybe only with themselves. In a society that is overly sexualized stigmas come about easily, such as the one you present. And no, one does not have to do something ‘about’ it, as there is nothing wrong with having a different sexual orientation then the group, that promotes itself to be the norm. There is no norm to that as it entirely depends on the person. What is important is the be with a partner who is comparable.

Not just oral contraception. I jad an iud for seven years and it shut off my libido slowly and also turned off my emotions... i couldnt cry even when i needed to for years. The year after i got it out was an emotional nightmare and made the lady bits numb until hormones went back to a decent level. It was a wild 8 years. I didnt have the problem with the pill.

This is not an easy conversation to have with the ladies, without sounding like you are criticising them. Some may even feel like you might be body shaming them. The advice given here is mostly medical and doesn't touch on the mental barriers, like if she feels that she is not good enough or desirable.
This topic is in the same category as, "do I look fat in this outfit?". It is a lose/lose scenario. Most women would rather lose the relationship than have an open honest discussion on the low libido topic.

My wife has had HSDD for over 7 years, (since our first son was born) she has finally opened up her mind to hormone therapy and is going to start next week. Hopefully this helps her 🙏🏽

For a while I thought she was bipolar but it was so weird that her mood changed fast. Next visit they will probably add a low dose of testosterone which will really ramp up the sex drive. But I’m happy with her results so far, still no intimacy though but she’s a lot more friendlier to me

Excellent video! As a personal trainer and exercise physiologist I have worked with thousands of men and women over the last 27 years. One thing to check for based on my experience is estrogen dominance due to all the xenoestrogens we are exposed to on a daily basis - among other things like added hormones in the foods we eat or any other endocrine disrupting chemicals! In short, if you have low libido it might be a good idea to do a full hormone panel (urine, blood, and saliva) and don't be surprised if you are estrogen dominant with very low testosterone considering you are otherwise healthy and this goes for men and women. Most everyone I have consulted with have no libido, depression, stress, anxiety, etc. and when I put them on HRT/TRT it is night and day. Women and men get their sex life back and they are literally different people when it comes to having patience again, happy, joyful, loving, and all the positive emotions associated with life!
I need help, in our relationship there is no issue of stress or any other issues but after our first daughters birthday ..She lost desire, even feeling of desire is not there, it's been 7 years now, even she is not much willing to go to doctor, her proactively thinks its not going to get fix.. Not sure where you are located but you can look online for BodyLogic MD and see if they have physicians in your area. Once this is corrected she will be a new woman.

Hi Dr Rena. Unfortunately for me as a male, there's very much a double edged sword with my wife and I. Mismatch of desire and a total absence of libido for her because of menopause. Needless to say I have constant desire and she has zero. We were intimate one night in July for the first time in three or four years. That was only because I kept pressing the issue. Not the best way to go about it. May sound crazy but I literally didn't know any better, so I simply chalked it up to what's been going on with her, and that nothing could be done about it. Now, we're finally communicating and she's going to see an OBGYN in the near future. She's in a middle or later stage and hasn't had her cycle for just over a year. She doesn't want to do estrogen replacement (at least not yet) because of the cancer concerns surrounding that. Any suggestions in the meantime?

I am glad that you mentioned the distress factor and change in sex drive. I have low libido and no interest in sex. I identify as asexual. I know that your videos are targeted toward allosexual (people who do experience sexual attraction) people, but it would be really nice if you mentioned asexuality in passing. Our experiences are still quite pathologized, despite the changes in the DSM-5. A lot of people see us as broken or deficient in some way.
i understand your concern, but a big part of asexuality is not seeing your lack of libido as a problem. if somebody wants to change that, as i'm sure most people watching this video do, we're most likely not asexual. i think asexuality and lack of libido in itself are two very different things

I keep wanting to ask, what if after 30 years of marriage I suddenly decided I was too tired or stressed out to take her out for dinner once or twice a week as we used to do? What if I went for over a year without taking her out for dinner? It would catastophic and a source of fighting and resentment -- and we'd ultimately go back to our regular schedule of eating out. Now apply that to a husband who has been sexually abandoned. What is he to do? From where I stand, not too much other than open up another TV dinner.

We're both in our 6th decade of life. Aside from her drive being higher than mine; the necessity for more of a particular product is the most noticeable change in intimacy.
I've studied this subject for 50 years, the solutions to a women's low libido can be resolved with 3 things. A fat wallet, a large unit and don't snore. I didn't have any of these traits so that's why the 50 years.

I wonder if one can really call it an "issue" when the female libido is reduced in most women shortly after a pregnancy. Isn't that natures way of making sure that the attention goes to the baby in the first months and that procreation doesn't continue right after birth? So that nature tries to make sure that the next pregnancy is not starting within a years distance between the last.
I’ve had extremely low/non existent libido since I was 26 . The reason for this is I have severe sexual anhedonia to the point that even touch doesn’t feel pleasurable . Anything physical touch , hugging , bathing, kissing doesn’t make me feel anything inside , it’s almost as if I physically can’t feel pleasure . It’s sad and depressing to think of all the things I’ve lost , I can’t seem to regain them
They’re gone and I don’t think I can have them back . The anhedonia is too severe for me to be in a relationship. I just think it’s pointless for me to put in all the effort for little or no reward . It still makes me sad tho that I can never have a normal relationship or connect with someone that way again
It sucks so bad. I’ve never had any sort of libido. I’m told I’m depressed and need SSRIs by some doctors and then advised against it by other doctors so I just sit here feeling like I was born a wrong thing and that I’ll never be able to be a good partner.

I've been with my husband for 6yrs. In the beginning of our relationship we would hump like rabbits and both had a high sex drive, but for about 2yrs I've been RARELY in "the mood" but hate that I feel this way because it doesn't make any sense, he treats me like the queen that I am, he can perform very well whenever I AM in "the mood", I'm VERY attracted to him so why the low sex drive? What sucks about it most of all is because I cant explain it, it causes him to feel like something may be wrong with him but its not. So its either I suck it up and try (which can be painful sometimes) or he has to rub one out (using his ruff calluses hands). I watch this because there are no videos that address my problems. When it comes to men it's all about performance. I have no physical problems. Everything works fine. I just don't have much motivation. A sleepy interest in women. I'm single and over age 50. Don't have that urge that is almost required for men. Here's something you don't hear much about. I'm older and my doc says hormone replacement therapy can really help on older guy retain muscle and just feel better all around. He gives me a scrip for a gel you just rub on. So I start doing it and within a couple months I do feel better. Also, I start to notice a pretty good bump in my libido. That's all great so I go along for a while and I run across a study done in Australia where they are giving women a small dose of testosterone and it really helps with there libido too. I tell my wife and she says sure lets try a little on me. Well, there were no white lab coats or measuring of dosing. To say the least it worked. It turned into a be careful what you ask for situation. We decided to cool it on the testosterone. We still get a laugh about our "experiment"

Yes, I had almost no desire for sex when I was on contraception Implanon. I did not notice the difference with the Marina (IUD) so maybe it depends on the type of contraception for the women.

I have known a number of women that were very healthy but simply had no to very little sex drive and it affected their relationships. Most could not maintain a relationship for more than a year or two and could not fully understand why they could not keep a partners interest even though everything outside the bedroom was great. Biologically, we aren't designed to be banging it out all the time. We are more prone to infections and issues, sex carries higher consequences for us. I get a yeast infection almost every time my partner goes down on me. Sort of takes the fun out of it. Stress affects us way more and sex is not the de-stressor for women that men think it is. My wife has had several symptoms of HSDD and have experienced a majority of the causes you've listed. We've been going through a stressful period in the marriage for months now.
However, my wife suddenly noticed a change in her libido yesterday after several months of not feeling aroused the way she used to. In fact, this change comes about a month after she had stopped taking oral contraception. I'm not sure if the two are related but, it's a welcome change that we hope to capitalise on.
There is a link oral contraception do lower lobido in woman. Ironically woman take them in order to have it more but since it prevents ovulation the time when woman want it the most it really is not the best sollution I would say and very unhealthy too. It's amasing that it been at least said that they made the pill for woman because men would not experiment with their hormonal levels. It's sad but do men really want the woman to loose their desire and they want it. There are thankfully more studies now for better contraceptives, but for how long will it take to reach the market? To long I would say!

Yes, the combination hormonal birth control can lower libido. Switching to other types of birth control could return her libido back to normal, or even increase it.
Maybe your wife could take a supplement in order to help her, I found this product hormonal balance and it's supposed to help with issues like this, I bought it now for myself but I have not started eating of it as of yet and can't say how it affected me however. Maybe this product don't even exist where you live but maybe something similar could help your wife?
Also notice how couples with more kids tend to be more emotionally attracted to each other. I think it has something to do with the male sperm. Who knows.

I have been through all the male stages from wife stopping all sex, anger, resentment, depression, becoming distant. Not just oral contraception. I jad an iud for seven years and it shut off my libido slowly and also turned off my emotions... i couldnt cry even when i needed to for years. For a while I thought she was bipolar but it was so weird that her mood changed fast. Next visit they will probably add a low dose of testosterone which will really ramp up the sex drive. But I’m happy with her results so far, still no intimacy though but she’s a lot more friendlier to me

Excellent video! As a personal trainer and exercise physiologist I have worked with thousands of men and women over the last 27 years. One thing to check for based on my experience is estrogen dominance due to all the xenoestrogens we are exposed to on a daily basis - among other things like added hormones in the foods we eat or any other endocrine disrupting chemicals! In short, if you have low libido it might be a good idea to do a full hormone panel (urine, blood, and saliva) and don't be surprised if you are estrogen dominant with very low testosterone considering you are otherwise healthy and this goes for men and women. Most everyone I have consulted with have no libido, depression, stress, anxiety, etc. and when I put them on HRT/TRT it is night and day. Women and men get their sex life back and they are literally different people when it comes to having patience again, happy, joyful, loving, and all the positive emotions associated with life!

Hi Dr Rena. Unfortunately for me as a male, there's very much a double edged sword with my wife and I. Mismatch of desire and a total absence of libido for her because of menopause. Needless to say I have constant desire and she has zero. We were intimate one night in July for the first time in three or four years. That was only because I kept pressing the issue. Not the best way to go about it. May sound crazy but I literally didn't know any better, so I simply chalked it up to what's been going on with her, and that nothing could be done about it. Now, we're finally communicating and she's going to see an OBGYN in the near future. She's in a middle or later stage and hasn't had her cycle for just over a year. She doesn't want to do estrogen replacement (at least not yet) because of the cancer concerns surrounding that. Any suggestions in the meantime?

I am glad that you mentioned the distress factor and change in sex drive. I have low libido and no interest in sex. I identify as asexual. I know that your videos are targeted toward allosexual (people who do experience sexual attraction) people, but it would be really nice if you mentioned asexuality in passing. Our experiences are still quite pathologized, despite the changes in the DSM-5. A lot of people see us as broken or deficient in some way.
i understand your concern, but a big part of asexuality is not seeing your lack of libido as a problem. if somebody wants to change that, as i'm sure most people watching this video do, we're most likely not asexual. i think asexuality and lack of libido in itself are two very different things

I wonder if one can really call it an "issue" when the female libido is reduced in most women shortly after a pregnancy.
Isn't that natures way of making sure that the attention goes to the baby in the first months and that procreation doesn't continue right after birth? Also giving the body some time off to recuperate from all the changes it underwent during pregnancy. So that nature tries to make sure that the next pregnancy is not starting within a years distance between the last.

I’ve had extremely low/non existent libido since I was 26 . The reason for this is I have severe sexual anhedonia to the point that even touch doesn’t feel pleasurable . Anything physical touch , hugging , bathing, kissing doesn’t make me feel anything inside , it’s almost as if I physically can’t feel pleasure . It’s sad and depressing to think of all the things I’ve lost , I can’t seem to regain them

I've been with my husband for 6yrs. In the beginning of our relationship we would hump like rabbits and both had a high sex drive, but for about 2yrs I've been RARELY in "the mood" but hate that I feel this way because it doesn't make any sense, he treats me like the queen that I am, he can perform very well whenever I AM in "the mood", I'm VERY attracted to him so why the low sex drive? I watch this because there are no videos that address my problems. When it comes to men it's all about performance. I have no physical problems. Everything works fine. I just don't have much motivation. A sleepy interest in women. I'm single and over age 50. Don't have that urge that is almost required for men. I miss cuddling with someone but rarely think about having sex. My sexuality has changed. It's in my brain and nowhere else.
Here's something you don't hear much about. I'm older and my doc says hormone replacement therapy can really help on older guy retain muscle and just feel better all around. He gives me a scrip for a gel you just rub on. So I start doing it and within a couple months I do feel better. Also, I start to notice a pretty good bump in my libido. That's all great so I go along for a while and I run across a study done in Australia where they are giving women a small dose of testosterone and it really helps with there libido too. I tell my wife and she says sure lets try a little on me. Well, there were no white lab coats or measuring of dosing. To say the least it worked. It turned into a be careful what you ask for situation. We decided to cool it on the testosterone. We still get a laugh about our "experiment"
The creams are not it. Go on full on synthetic testosterone like bodybuilders user. Feel whole again. Only drawback is needles but you get used to it.
