I would state that other chapters like the Lamenters also deserve the title of knights as they are also a noble chapter of Space Marines, it's just a shame that they have such bad luck.
By the way he does these kind’ve story opening introductions to what each space marine faction is like. But that’s not the craziest part, the craziest part is that he writes them all. This story of a baby being born and a Salamanders interaction in it is written by Baldermort
The digging torpedoes are most likely referring to imperial assault drills, transport vehicles that can burrow into the ground with massive grinding drills. In space, imperial ships use boarding torpedoes usually deployed by space marines. It's meant to be shot into an enemy ship where it will bust its way through and allow squads to attack the ship from the inside.
From what I understand, they were kept in reserves, because they needed to rebuild their forces, 1 000 Space Marines were no use for the EMperor, but they could rush to put down some raiders that were not worth for an entire legion. But due to this position of reserves and protectors of the human worlds already pacified, they developped that mindset of defenders of humanity, and it became only more important as Volan their Primarch installed them on Nocturne and permitted the new Marines to return to their families and have that human connection the others Astartes lack ^^
The salamanders training is while still entente is largely based around the trials of Valkan which were the challenges there primarch went through when he first met the emperor and lots of fire and forging with a little grim derp thrown in like ritual scars are a big thing where they would burn symbols into there flesh or hold glowing hot chains in their hands and lower a coffin into a volcano for a salamander funeral
Vulkan: “There will be no Rad or Phospex in my legion. We shall fight wars humanely. Some things should be left in the dark age." Ferrus: “Oh cool, when are you going to stop burning people to death?" Vulkan: “I don't understand the question."
When you next time react to Baldermort, pick Blood Angels. Blood Angels are basically the tragic dark mirror to Salamanders. Salamander were sent to impossible mission and nobody expected them to return. Blood Angels were sent to impossible mission and everyone hoped they would not return. Salamander were hailed as defenders of Humanity. Emperor was thinking exterminating whole Blood Angel legion. Salamanders keep their family close. Blood Angels sacrifice everything. Not just like other Space Marines, they will sacrifice their bodies and minds for the emperor. Their skin change, their bones will brake and reform, even their facial structure will change so they wont resemble their old life and family at all. They all also will eventually go insane and become blood thirsty monster. Basically turning from Knight to villain.
Salamanders are neat. If you like them, maybe you will also like the Lammenters. Baldermort is great. I recommend is Tau videos. Especially the introduction could be something for you, it's from a human perspective, similar to this one.
Salamanders remain in contact with their families, and it's so wholesome. But to play devil's advocate... it can also have the opposite effect. Back when they were a loyal legion, the Night Lords also allowed their marines to contact their families, and it was one of the biggest reasons their legion went to crap. Gendor Skraivok was more loyal to his noble family than Konrad Curze, and he wanted to restore their power by sabotaging the Legion. He did this by taking in worse recruits: criminals, psychopaths, cowards, and weaker boys who wouldn't meet the basic physical requirements. These weaklings know they aren't good enough, and will cling loyally to him.

No matter how strong and worthy a child of Nocturne may be to ascend to the ranks of the Astartes, he will still probably die. This is even more true than in almost any other loyalist chapter. There is a chance of rejection when implanting the geneseed from any Primarch. However, the geneseed derived from Vulkan, Primarch of the Salamanders, is the most unstable among all loyalist lineages with a rejection rate of 90%.
Are you sure about that? From what I've read the Salamanders gene-seed is pretty stable, not counting their mutation in their melanochrome. The most unstable gene-seed amongst the loyalists I would say are the Space Wolves who are constantly at risk of becoming Wulfen and the Blood Angels who slowly succumb over time to the Red Thirst and Black Rage.
"As far as can be determined by the Magos Biologis of the Adeptus Mechanicus, the Salamander’s gene-seed appears to be both stable and as yet uncorrupted." sounds like cap unless you can post a source.
Before you "emperor of man 2" you should listen to luten09s original eldar and necron videos! Those 2 will flesh out your understanding of the history of the 40k universe!
