Death korps of Krieg is more like WW1 Germany in terms of their gear. Also you got it right in the beginning that the big guy in the suit is a space marine otherwise known as Astartes. And yes you’re pretty spot on with the death korps of Krieg lore. The nobles of Krieg betrayed the imperium and so colonel Juergen or however you spell his name nuked the world turning it into a nuclear wasteland spending many years putting down the rebellion

There's many mistaken of how effective melee are in Warhammer 40k!! Because you see, guns are limited, they are expensive, and to a certain moment, became useless! BUT, your trusty sword doesn't!! Melee are actually the most effective combat style in this Universe because... well.. everything is fast!! Space Marines can match the speed of a F1 racing car, and the power armor is most of the time are performing very well in protecting them against most of MEDIUM range weaponry which if you don't know, are equivalent to artillery in our modern days, HEAVY ARTILLERY to be exact (and also the strong, high level range weaponry will melt that armor down like crayon)! Not to mention of various protection techs such as Void-shield, Warp-shield, Gravity altering techs,... and so on!! So a heavy swing from a sword is much more effective to kill anything above the level of a Space Marine!! And also, if you're wonder.. those swords aren't just metal swords, they are in fact atom-detonomizer device shaped as a sword! The blade itself just there to "shaping the energy field" and for looking cool, the real damage dealer are the energy field wrap around the blade which can cut Space Marine's power armor like cutting butter!! Melee also shine because this Universe have magic, like.. LEGIT MAGIC!! And it's only.. most of the time works on something you're hold on to (a sword, a hammer, an axe, or basically just add some magic damage into your gun and slap it into your opponent)!! Magic don't stick around long enough at projectile after it's have been launch!!

if you want some really good warhammer art, John Blanche (recently retired) was an official warhammer artist for like 20+ years, and his style is incredibly distinct and very evocative, really well represents the gritty and bizarre nature of the imperium, especially Mechanicus

the 2nd and 11th legions were originally intended to be blank spots for the 2 players of a game of the warhammer tabletop to fill in with their own legion, but reconciling that with the lore was too difficult, so they became the lost primarchs, expunged from imperial records and memory

1:29:38 the destruction of a planet is often a huge thing and takes a lot of work, the Inquisitor is usually the one who signs the paper and/or presses the launch button, and the exterminatus can be done in many ways, usually through orbital bombardment. Inquisitor books are really cool. Others have told you already, but the Eisenhorn series is very good, the audiobook version is very good.

41:25 the Salamanders are almost always nice to the humans (not to the aliens, though) and will risk their lives to save the citizens in ways that other Space Marines, even the not too evil ones, think is not logical due to cost, since it is not cheap to replace a Space Marine. And in a universe as grim dark as this, the Salamanders often get the short end of the stick and suffer a lot. The Lamenters are another chapter (branched from the Blood Angels) who are nice, value the common people and get the short end of the stick big time. Their motto is "For those we cherish, we die in Glory!". There are tragic heroes even in an universe as evil as the 40k universe is.

Luetin's criticism of the shaman theory is simply a fallacy. Arguments that say why would someone do something that they cannot know are what you can call fallacy; argument from ignorance. Just becaue we believe they could not know, they could not have thought up something like that. Which is extremely ironic when the whole 40K universe is teeming with exactly that kind of plot point. For just one powerful example: orks - their entire schtick is that if they dream up something and believe in it, it will become truth. So how is a convent of witches and shamans, who are warp sensitive, where they get high together and see a dark future, unlikely? How is that not possible that they then get some more grass and talk about trying to do something about that dark future, and come up with a man who would be undying, and have a supremely superior mind to keep to the mission they intended? Also, how is the emperor unlikely as a human creation when he is very fallible, and extremely tribal? He is exactly as flawed as you would expect from that age...

In terms of a good guy. The Tau can be considered good. However, it's a bit not grim dark and out of place sometimes so now the Tau is also a bit xenophobic and also there's a bit of mind-controlling hinted around. They are quite naive in a sense and the only reason why they haven't been wiped out yet is because the lore said so. In reality, their empire is super small, they lack Warp travel and although they are quite advanced in technology, they are not THAT advanced and the Imperium can just bulldoze them with raw power. However, you should read some lore about the gue'vesa, which are human defectors that join the Tau. Overall the living conditions are so much better than anywhere in the Imperium. The fact that the Tau's ship has actual cooling AC is a blessing

The imperial knights are normally piloted by a royal bloodline human, but they also have tech teams and weapon teams sometimes that are all inside the mech itself.

Space marines have extra organs all around their bodies and the thought process and blood circulation is insane compared to a regular human being. That’s why they have to strap refrigerators on their backs to avoid overheating and hoses feed the cold to all the important organs.

If you appreciate the gruesome parts of Warhammer you should read some of the books. The Iron warriors book goes places you think it wouldn't dare go.

The 40k Universe is, simply put, a practice in extremes. The Imperium is what you get when you take religious zealotry and dial it to 100. The Eldar are what happens if you take a victory lap, Jack it up until the knob falls off, and damn it to hell. The Tau are Socialism cranked up to the max with a little Authoritarianism thrown in for flavor. The Necrons are what happens when you beat the game in an open world RPG and consent to plugging in as many mods as you can.

With how much time and effort that goes into creating an Space Marine, you can imagine that they are not called in often. Space Marines are called in when the conflict is much more costly than the endless bodies of Imperial Guard can afford. The are essentially tanks that can walk as fast has humans, even faster. They take more punishment than others.
