Engineering Explained did some math on the torque at the wheels with the gear ratio and final drive (confirmed it has same as base and Z06) and determined it has enough torque to smoke the tires launching from a stand-still in 4th gear (if the electronic aids were turned off).
That is insanely fast

The engine in the back seems to make a big difference with traction. Running a 1,100hp C6 Corvette Grand Sport here, and with Toyo R888R 345mm wide tires, traction is still a major issue. Definitely want a new ZR1. Newer body & tech, similar power, but I'd bet it is a good bit more heavy (mine is 3,300 lbs). Hope they don't price it at 400k or something insane.

205 MPH like it's nothing, Go Corvette. This will definitely be the King of the Hill when it comes to muscle cars and sports cars in America, a majority period until Zora comes out. The markup on these beasts will be insane.
What do you expect it to do? It's 3600 lbs with pretty damn good aero and over 1000 hp with a crazy trans doing all the work for the guy. Ppl act surprised that it's crazy fast I mean was you expecting less?

It's not really a muscle car. I would say the vett hasn't been a muscle car since the 80s prior. After the 80s they became a sports/performance coupe. Since the c-8s reveal it's really been more of a budget super/hyper car. The mustang, Camaro, chargers, and Challengers are still muscle cars. The performance versions of those models are basically sport/performance race cars not really even a muscle car. well above what was considered a muscle car ,much more similar to a purpose built track car than a muscle car. NASCAR should make stock car racing stock again. Muscle cars were really just really fast boats very different to the agile performance versions we have now. I wouldn't classify the performance versions of the "muscle car models" as muscle cars anymore. if it's got a racing suspension it's a track vehicle honestly dosent make much sense why they aren't coming from the factory with a 5/6 point harness and a roll cage rated for a 200+ 1/4 mile. Most super cars like the vett don't even have a safety rating. I think it was the demons, but could have been the hellcat's that were getting banned from the strip . They didn't have a cage and were exceeding the time/mph that a uncaged car can run on the 1/4.

828 ft-lbs alone doesnt really mean anything. Horespower is far more important. A 6.7L Cummins Diesel creates over 1000 ft-lbs, but if you put that engine into a corvette (ignoring size issues) no way it would hit 200 even with different gearing to optimize speed.
@@moltres5740on the other hand, with lots of horsepower and no torque, it would take it forever to reach top speed as well.. torque has a lot to do with that, not the horsepower.. i can take a 150 HP Honda stock Honda and hit 200.. just as fast as the guy with 400 HP, especially if he has sorry torque.. now, yes HP has a lot to do with it, but, only if the HP is very high.. if it's low, you better have decent torque to actually get up to speed quicker..

@@ShawnLattimore horsepower is torque x rpm. we tend to associate torque with acceleration because vehicles with more torque make more power at lower rpms, so they pull from a stand still. if you keep any engine in the proper rev range such that it's making ideal power, it doesn't matter whether that's a load of torque turning slowly, or barely any torque turning quickly. that's why tiny 1 liter motorbike engines can make as much power as a 2.5 liter car engine: they spin more than twice as fast. at the end of the day, acceleration is a change in velocity which means increasing kinetic energy, and power is a measure of energy over time, so power is ultimately what determines rate of acceleration (ignoring things like friction)

Went from 20 to 70 in a second with insane downforce. This thing is already groundbreaking and it just came out. I really feel like this is going to dominate racetracks like the Viper ACR and the GTR did back in the day
Viper ACR can still dominate tracks , just time. Effort and access to an ACR and track is why they didn't do more runs. The last run when they broke track record driver said there was a lot more left in the car to exploit
Down force isn't even a factor until you're beyond 70 mph so the 20-70 prob isn't even effected honestly. You probably gotta be over 100 mph before it starts making a noticable difference in performance.
@@midnight347 I didn’t mean then, I mean it can accelerate like crazy and it also has all the downforce from the aero, those together are going to make it a track monster. Top speed doesn’t really matter on any modern day racetrack. Acceleration and cornering absolutely do.
@@dimmak2427 Die hard GM fan.. But I'm still impressed with the ACR's track performance/lap times all these years later. Esp. from a front engine/rwd layout, manual, huge N/A v10, 'just' 640 HP, minimal electronics, and lots of aero.
I miss those days (the golden years of drivers cars).. Where we still had manuals., raw, simple, bare-bones sports cars/supercars.. Where cars like the Z/28, Viper/ACR, GT350r, c6 z06/zr1, Porsche CGT/GT2rs & Pagani Zonda's ONLY came with a stick. (& most others had stick options)
I think the 90's till today are a small window in history of absolute automotive perfection. (Peaking w/ C7 Zr1,C8z's, Mustang GTD, 1LE Camaro's & Mclaren/Lambo's/Porsche's etc. from the last few years). But why did we as humans EVER allow Govt to impose emission/safety regulations that kill the soul of sportscars.. & EV mandates that kill ICE altogether??? ICE drivers cars should be constitutionally protected😅

@@midnight347 Here's the thing, I genuinely love everything cool and different on the car world. I could look at a classic 1950s Cadillac with massive fins, a cybertruck, and an original NSX all side by side at a car show, and love all of them due to how bold and unique they all are.
But I hate when hardcore fanboys let brands get away with shit. Toyota is the worst in this regard. Most of their cars are insanely outdated. The ones that aren't are horrifically overpriced, or nowhere near as reliable as people claim.

@@midnight347 There are already several GR Yaris pushing +600 HP. Only someone utterly clueless could say what you just did. Even with basic mods that thing is a rocket. In the Super Taikyu Endurance Series, GR Yaris has become a force to be reckoned within the ST-2 class. It has Evo X/WRX STi pace with significantly less weight

I was just watching an old Top Gear episode last night. It was the first episode to show off the Veyron, and how insane it was to have a 1,000+hp car from the factory 😂
I love that episode & the manual Pagani Zonda F. (Best car ever made).
But crazy to think they needed 8 Liters, 16 cylinders, & 4 turbos to achieve 986* merican horsepowers. And also AWD to break a 10 second 1/4 mile. When a supercharged LS/LT or Hellcat V8 couldve easily done the same. But now we've got a TT 5.5L v8, rwd Zr1 that can nearly hit 1100hp.. And do a 9.7 1/4 mile (all while meeting todays stricter emissions laws).🤯💪🇺🇲

I’m impressed by the traction! It just pulls through with no spinning like it’s a regular c8 but the speedometer is sailing like crazy. That’s going to be crazy hard to beat. My 600whp z06 seems far more violent and first gear is spinning…absolutely amazing job GM did getting that to drive like any other stock car

Not if the car has proper suspension. This ain't no torsion beam hatchback, son. Most high end cars that can go that fast might even be able to do it with NON HANDS on the wheel, because they're that stable, but that's praying that the roadway is smooth, of course, so you should probably keep at least one hand on at all times.

That plaid is running low 9s every single time and will beat the dodge even in its own habitat

Nah +200 mph is still impressive. There’s only 5 productions cars that claim they could reach 300 mph. Only 1, the Chiron Super Sport, has been able prove their claim during testing.
What? There’s not a single car you actually buy that even hits 300 yet. The Bugatti was a prototype and only does 273 on the customer version. Maybe the jesko or f5 but neither have been tested yet. Only one close was SSC at 295. And those are all $3M or more. This car will be 150k to start
