I actually wore them to do the other side. Picked up a set when I went to get the different cut off wheels. I had some sparks fly up at my face and was like "yeah I should probably have safely glasses" and thanks man!
Did you notice alot of dirt in the engine bay after doing this? Also, instead of drilling holes in the body, why didn't you cut holes on the plastic trim to match up with those 2- oval and circle hole? Or cut holes in the interior plastic portion.
Damn what a cool idea! One of my biggest pet peeve about car design today is all the nonfunctional vents/aero from the factory. If it's there anyway why not use it? Always wondered what I could do about those on my wrx, thanks for the video!
Have seen another video where someone saw about a 5 degree drop (accounting for weather changes too). It seems like it is a VERY good cooling mod if you pair it with aftermarket fender shrouds
I really thought of doing this when I had the car 😂 I was about to ask the forum but I thought I’d get laughed off. The only worry I had was rust if salt gets in there....
Haha I actually had the same concern but I put a rubberized undercoating inside and coated the area I painted and used etching primer so hopefully it holds up!
This is actually a great idea, has there been a noticeable change for you? I am from South Florida so I am always looking for ways to lower the running temps. (Average oil temp is about 205-215 when normal driving, when doing some spirited driving it can get to 210-220+ easy) I am looking add an oil cooling system early summer time but worry that it might just cause the ambient temps inside the bay to be hotter, I wonder if this mod or hood vents would solve that issue. My only worry about the hood vents is allowing rain to get in but I have seen some people remove the backs when they get to the track and then pop them back in for daily driving.
I havent actually been able to get solid testing yet because its been super cold here so the oil, coolant, and intake temps are pretty much as low as they can be. But I definitely thought about hood vents as well.
I had the same issue. Im not sure where you're located but I got them from an assorted bolt box at harbor freight and found some that fit right into the threads on the box. I'll check to see the specs on the bolt for you and then you could always just pick some up from a lowes or home depot!
@@mattlubeski7522 I just checked and I used M6x1.0 30mm not sure if it's 100% the right size but it threads in, gets tight, and I can take them in and out and they aren't cross threading. Feels like the right size.
Never realized how worthless those were. That’s an awesome idea!!
safety glasses my dude, that shits rotating fast af! you only get 2 eyes. great content!

@@StreetInspired1 yeah it gets sketchy haha been there, always good to be safe! cheers!
Yup did this last spring on my 2014 sti
Also did hood vents also
Nice work bro

The wheel liner keeps the dirt out of there. No dirt in engine bay

It works and IT'S FREE!!!
Rip! Love watching these older vids
what kinds of drops in engine temps are you seeing?
great vid I will definitely consider this

Side fender vents real on stock fk8.
Pity they didn't do this stock on wrx/sti
Now that’s a great idea and I may try this too! Thank you for the video!
Good Idea man! Thanks for the good content. Can’t wait to see the future of this build.
I've wanted to do this for a min. Why put them there if their not functional.??.already took care of Perrin shrouds..good shit..
This would be a INSANE cooling mod paired with fender shrouds. You'd basically have an ice cold engine at that point.. With an intake too hehe
So, why isn't this done from the factory???

That's badass!!!
genius
Hey man I have the same mishimoto airbox, where did you get those bolts to hold the top down? My OEM ones are all rusted and degrading

@@StreetInspired1 Thank you! I could go over to harbor freight but if you do get the chance to figure out which bolts they were that would be awesome!

@@StreetInspired1 it works and that’s all that matters to me for this type of application ! Thank you very much!!
Can you link the fog bezel that sends air into the engine? So we can buy it too.
Its just the oem 18-19 STI fog bezel. You can find them on ebay for about $30 or directly from subaru
What light kit do you have inside your car in the foot wells?
Those are actually just red led strip from Walmart lol
Did you notice a difference in temperatures??
When cruising I've noticed manifold temps and intake temps are consecutively about 2-3°f cooler
Been think about buying hood vents to cut in to bring down engine bay temps and stumbled across this
