Agreed. And they would cool the brakes if they were ducted to the wheel well. The wheel splash tray blocks all that from happening and it’s a direct link up to the engine bay. Thanks for the comment I appreciate it. Good luck
Best part is it's essentially a free mod. Clean video. Looking to finally getting around to doing it to my '16. Fmic with the scoop block off and Verus hood vents.
Please make update vid on these after winter months in Alberta. Just wondering how the vents will cope with snow build up. Thanks. For me, I got skidplate and hood vents planning to diverge the heat.
I love these videos. watched the brake cooling duct one as well and it was helpful. I'd just turn off the piano background music... keeps looping over and over and i cant focus ahhhh lol
Thank you very much for the comment. Haha I understand about the music. I try to just keep something on so u have something other than my breathing to listen to. LOL. Again thank you
Fantastic work man. I will be doing this here soon. I’m also going to add a switch back LED strip that hooks to my blinkers and headlights. So when the headlights are on it lights up red then when you hit the blinker it flashes yellow with the blinker. Great video. Was referred to to it off of one of the 2015+ WRX pages off Facebook.
That sounds like an excelllent idea, post it back in Facebook when you finish it up. Thank you so much for the comment, I honestly appreciate it a lot. Thanks again and good luck.
Very nice video and write-up, although I drive a 09 small body hatch WRX, I find the videos on the brakes very interesting, looking to upgrade those as it's my daily (driven very spirited LOL) Also looking into venting the hood (no choice) as it get's too hot under there but I don't want to spend over 1k for a fiber/carbon hood. Thanks again for posting and keep 'em coming ;)
P dBdN I appreciate your comment a lot thank you so much. Good luck with your build also! Yeah I’m not wanting to go with a carbon hood either as it actually weighs more than my OEM hood. Thank you again for mentioning the brake videos I did also.
Hey nice work, I have 2020 WRX in white as well and was wondering if you can see the drill holes through the vents since it is a white car with black vents? maybe shoot a pic this way so i can see if i need to paint that part black so it blends better.
Hi Marc, thanks for the comment I seriously appreciate it. Yes you can see the white and how I cut the fenders you can see the holes, however you ha e to really be looking at it and at an angle like standing at the door handle to see the white. The holes are only visible very close to the vent. I’ll post a picture in one of the Facebook groups. The only thing I’d do differently is I recently discovered the black rust prevent paint called “POR 15” and I’d paint this section with that I think to prevent corrosion (mine has none so far in winter) and to get the black concealing look. Thank you
@@snewstead1388 Yes, I've already cut the plastic out to my fenders and I can see the white paint through it. Going to drill the holes today and going to take your advise and paint around the holes in black. Im not great at the youtube videos but will post something small to show the difference between them being painted and not painted. Keep putting out that content and I'll keep watching!!!
Been wanting to do this. Thanks for doing it and documenting it!! Is that primer before the paint? Also where did you get the dupli color paint match from?
cherios thank you for your comment. Yes it was primer and the duplicolor paint in Subaru white was from Canadian tire which is a local hardware store here in Canada. The colour was a Subaru pearl white from a generic supply, that’s not necessarily matched to my paint code. It’s very close in colour tho.
@@Camarosindahood no. The fender liner blocks the wheels well area. These vents are a direct connection from the engine bay. If you remove those felt liners on the inside of the engine bay where the fender meets the support, and look down the fender you can actually see the vents.
I’m very happy with how they were made. I wouldn’t make the cut outs larger either because they are flowing perfectly. Plus you need some structure remaining for stability. Make it happen, you won’t regret it.
There are water egress channels through the fender liner. I did prime, paint, and clear coat the front and back of the cuts. I’ll do a follow up video after winter. It really depends how often you wash in the winter. I do a full wash and under carriage spray every Friday.
@@snewstead1388 thanks for the reply! I look forward to seeing the update after winter. If possible could you point out the channels where the water drains to when you do the update? Appreciate it
Sorry I miss spoke and you are correct. They are not aluminum. This is also why I primed and painted after I made the cuts. Sorry for the confusion. The benefit is weight savings and heat extraction I guess 😜
Did I miss something, or do you already have the under-hood fender shrouds changed out for aftermarket replacements that have holes/vents in them? Grimmspeed, Perrin?
K03sport at this point I only removed the oem panels that were in the engine bay to help with venting. I now have the Perrin units installed with a video coming up soon. Thanks for your comment. I appreciate it.
@@snewstead1388... Great. I'm really looking to/want to add turn indicators either in the fender vent or on the 'WRX' fender garnish. Sure, some cars have mirror turns; mine does not...
Yes. I did this and the hood scoop block off at the same time and saw a 5-10 degree drop while driving and on throttle. While also accounting for ambient temps. Then I did my front bumper cut and shroud and saw an additional 10 degree drop.
Did you notice alot of dirt in the engine bay after doing this? Also, instead of drilling holes in the body, why didn't you cut holes on the plastic trim to match up with those 2- oval and circle hole? Or cut holes in the interior plastic portion.
There is absolutely no dirt coming into the engine bay. The body holes that I cut gain access to the space that directly connects up to the engine bay. If you look in your engine bay on the top left and right of the fenders, there is a black felt cover. If you remove that and look down you can see these fender holes (after cut out) and light coming from them. You don’t want to cut in to the plastic fender liner because that will for sure get dirt in from the wheels, plus this isn’t an area you want air to come from. Hope that helps. Thanks for the comment
Thank you very much. I honestly have no clue why they didn’t. It makes so much sense to do it. I assume in the winter they thought it wouldn’t allow the engine to come to temperature. Honestly I haven’t had an issue being in Canada
@@snewstead1388 I know. Same thing with the MK5 Supra. Fake vents everywhere. And what’s even worse is that the engineers made and entire video explaining that the fake vents are meant to become real with the aftermarket, and yet after some owners looked into it, it’s impossible for the haven’t locations to become actual usable vents! The engineers lied. It’s like t had at whole car was just a big lie...
I agree. I think there is some coming out tho, but I’m not sure they will be cut out to allow air to pass through them. Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it.
I wouldn't say this is a useless mod but you may not notice it much for daily driving. You'll have some (mild) change in heat in the engine bay, the real benefit though will be to the brake rotors. There's a reason that most track-spec subies have functional air vents, because it helps keep the brakes cool.
This has nothing to do with cooling the engine and honestly not much of the brakes. The fender wells build high tense air pressure coming into the car. Fender vents then release this pressure and create functional downforce. Do your research.
Fender vents are typically designed for cooling the brakes so it's interesting to see them cool the engine bay in this fashion 👍🏻

I’m sure they do this for the Subaru rally cars. Excellent point about the touch up paint. Thank you for your comment. I appreciate it.
