  • There is more evidence that women can naturally reduce uncomfortable hot flashes by changing their diet.
The results of a second study of dozens of hot flash sufferers confirms that eating a plant-based diet that is low in fat is about as effective as hormone replace therapy. Dr. Neal Barnard discusses the eye-opening results and why soy can be especially powerful for minimizing or even eliminating hot flashes.
He joins “The Weight Loss Champion” Chuck Carroll on The Exam Room Podcast with the results of his research and the changes women can make to find natural relief from hot flashes.

Thank you so much for doing these studies. After hearing about your first study (we were already WFPB) I started eating the soybeans. After about a week my several hot flashes at night nearly completely vanished. Sometimes I don’t eat the soybeans and after a few days I will start flashing again. Then I realize need to get back on track and in a few days back on soy they stop.
I make Ranch dressing for salads, “cheese” sauce over broccoli, creamy potato and kale soup all made by blending up the cooked soybeans with water and different spices. We use them in place of cashews in recipes for creamy things. I cooked a huge pot of them and portion them out into 1 cup and freeze them so we always have some ready for a quick defrost and into the blender.

Thanks for the ideas! With the weather cooling off, I just can't do smoothies anymore (that's how I was getting my soybeans delivered)and the flashing resumed, even with tofu making a frequent appearance in my diet. Definitely will use then more as a sub for cashews in creamy dishes. I hadn't thought of that. Gracias!

This worked for me but it took almost 4 months (I hate to admit that I wasn't very strict in the ''low fat'' part of the diet). From one flash every 30 minutes (every 2 hours at night) 6 months ago, I'm now down to ..... ZERO! I've got my life back without having to go the HRT route and I couldn't be more thankful to Dr. Barnard, Chuck and this channel in general. Even my doctor was impressed, she asked for the study to share it with her other (peri)menopausal patients.

I saw one of your podcast on TH-cam and decided to follow u because my cholesterol was elevated, borderline diabetic, blood pressure was also high. I became plant based eater from February 2022. I had my annual physical 2weeks ago and the good news is everything I mentioned was perfect ( my doctor’s words). Since then I’ve not come down from my high. So guys plant base diet works and I thank u guys for your podcast advice. Keep up the good work. God bless you. 🙏🏾

I have been on bio identical hormones for years... I was one of these people who became disabled by hot flashes, sleeplessness, irritability, I couldn’t function. I have been on the Wiley protocol for 16 years. I exercise , I eat vegan. I feel great !

I was one of them too and nothing worked for me. I tried everything for years. But low dose bioidentical hormones and a high raw mostly fruit plant based diet had been the combination that has me feeling normal again. Every woman's menopause is different. There is no shame in needing help so that you can function normally .

Thank you so much for this interview. I have been WFPB for years and I credit this with getting me into remission with Ulcerative Colitis. I am also post menopausal and using a low dose HRT. My hot flashes ( we call them flushes here in the UK ) were extreme but have faded over time. Unfortunately I still have ongoing menopausal symptoms so I will be adding soya beans to my diet to see if this helps.
Thanks again and keep up the good work.

Do y'all have any video shows on dealing with Osteoarthritis or Needing Hip Replacement? I have just started the Plant Based Food Plan, after watching What The Health!! I am 61 years old and was pretty much told my hip is deteriorating and if Hip replacement is not for you, then I am out of Luck!! I have lived in pain for many many years.
2 weeks into Plant Based and I can at least sleep in my recliner, all night!!!!!! I do not take any medications, just Tylenol when needed. Any Suggestions? I have just recently found y'all and have watched LOTS of the videos!! Great Information!!! Thank Y'all!!!!!

I'm so grateful to be a breast cancer survivor but I have to say the hot flashes have been a total BITCH (frequent and SEVERE initially)!!! Plus the associated weight gain. I've found that increasing my protein intake has significantly reduced my hot flashes. Going vegan and cutting out alcohol didn't help. I'm now having over 120 grams of protein per day by taking pea protein and eating a couple of 100 grams of seitan per day. It's made a huge difference to my strength, energy levels, and my skin. I eat a bit of tofu but probably not enough to know whether it made any difference. The added protein appears to have been the solution for me.

    • @Elizabeth-dg8dn

What made you try increasing protein for hot flashes?

    • @dorzhowe1305
      @dorzhowe1305 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@Elizabeth-dg8dn I read that as you age you should increase your protein intake as you start to lose lean body mass. I started strength training with resistance bands to build more muscle and increased my protein intake for those reasons. The hot flashes have almost stopped entirely and I was plagued with them for over 10 years, with some days in excess of 20 of them. I didn't expect that a side effect from eating more protein would stop the hot flashes. I wonder if those women who have experienced less flashes after consuming more soy are really benefiting from the increased protein intake and not specifically the soy itself. But everyone is different;0).

@@cailllou25 I've always exercised but up until recently it was mostly cardio and varied from one hour a day to six depending on what I was doing (hiking/bike riding on the longer days). It takes a bit of time to grow muscle from weight training so I don't know if altering the type of exercise I do has made a difference . I have seen a lot of overall benefit from increasing my protein intake though.

I'm so glad you said this and I'd like for this channel to interview vegan gynecologist that have knowledge about bioidentical hormones. Diet is very important but for that percentage of women where diet is not helping, they don't have to suffer and think they are doing something wrong. Plantbased diet and herbal supplements did nothing for my symptoms but bhrt gave me my life back. I suffered for 4 years before I did my research on bhrt and I couldn't be happier and there are so many benefits to bhrt preventing dementia , osteoporosis and heart attacks.
