It's one of my favourite videos from you so far Rory. I loved how you include the things to do in Darwin, going to the markets, food reviews and watching the sunset on the beach. Whenever you do a flight, train or bus review, you should include some of the leisurely things in each town or city :)

I'm so impressed by the lounge at Darwin. All lounges should be like that. I would not pay almost $2000 though for a better meal and a wider seat by 2 inches. Amazing video Rory!

As a Qantas Club Life Member, but only a Bronze Frequent Flyer, if I had my time over again, I would never, ever join any rewards programme and as for lounge accesses, there are companies that you can buy one-off lounge accesses, even though usually only at major airports. I have seen Qantas Club privileges dwindle and entitlements changed and removed. As Covid-19 continually kicks off, I am not even contemplating any sort of travel. Travel has not been enjoyable since 911 and with Covid-19, it has sunk to a whole new level and I cannot see it changing in the foreseeable future. I commend you though for getting past this and travelling and posting. Thanks.

Another good job Rory - thanks. I really liked the segment on Darwin and Mindil beach - a great idea to include it. Wow Qantas Business Class is expensive - I hope the other 2 passengers also didn't pay $1900 for their seat - by comaparison it makes the the 3 days of travel, accommodation, wining and dining on the Ghan look ridiculously cheap! I know which one I would pick.

    • @RoryDing

I think your reviews are always fair and balanced. Bangers and mash does seem a bit on the budget side for a $2000 fare but it can be quite comforting food and in covid times Qantas would be struggling to make any profit at all I guess so maybe they are going with less expensive options.

Hi Rory. I loved every minute of this video and I am even considering a return visit to Darwin after an interval of almost 50 years because of your review. The bangers and mash was also an Australian food staple back in the 50's and 60's and still popular with the Boomer generation but definitely not a business class offering. What you showed as the economy offering would be known as a Rissole to us boomers. You are now officially a food critic and you did it so well. How on God's good earth did you manage to eat in the lounge and then in business class and then back up for an economy meal including a chocolate cake and muffin??? THEN!!! a vanilla chocolate coated ice cream!!! You will soon be our very own Rory Ramsay but without the profanity. I can't wait for your next video. BTW I couldn't bring myself to call you by Ramsay's first name as it would be a insult to you.

I also had grilled barramundi at hotel Darwin before heading to the airport. 🤭🤭 but as a “food critic” I think I have to try everything don’t I? 😂
I had 4hrs in that lounge, enough time for me to digest before boarding, I only tried a little bit of everything so I was fine 😂😂😂

I'd love to visit Darwin, but I'd melt there, even this time of year, so it's a no go for me. Over 30 is bad enough in Jan, let alone in July. It's not natural haha. When I had croc I thought it more tasted fishy with a chicken type texture. Delicious though. So bangers and mash in $2k business class, and lamb kofta and rice in $400 economy. Did someone get confused when reading the menu back at QANTAS catering? That lamb kofta seems like the preferred meal to me.

Totally agree, Qantas service and meal quality have dropped ALOT prior to COVID19 and even now. It, unfortunately, shows in their service that Loyalty to their customers doesn't matter because they are still overcharging for flights especially flights from Perth to Syd, Mel and Bris. So, I agree with you Rory on the Qantas meal selection you got was below par especially when you pay $1900 business and you get bangers and mash, like REALLY QANTAS?? I have flown Economy, Business and First on Emirates and Thai and they get way better meals than this Qantas flight!! Like come on QANTAS, if you are going to overcharge your customers $1900 a seat on a Darwin to Adelaide flight the least you can do is provide them with exceptional service and meal as if they were flying EMIRATES ECONOMY!!...lol

I agree with your comment re the business class catering Rory. Bangers & mash would be considered low quality catering here (UK/Mainland Europe) and not at all suitable for a premium inflight meal. The catering offered in the lounge seemed better quality and more suitable for the business class customer. But why have hot food anyway in a hot climate ? Back in the summer of the 1990s I flew with Meridiana (a boutique Italian airline no longer trading) from Verona to London LGW. OK so the flight wasn't as long as Darwin-Adelaide but business class catering was cold food but of a high quality. It appeared like an artisan meal ... in other words one prepared by hand.

The US has had a base in Darwin, on and off, pretty much since WW2. I'd imagine it'd be one of the better postings for US service personnel.

Does Qantas provide the catering or as plane and crew is Alliance does Alliance provide the catering?

    • @RoryDing

Qantas provides catering. It is the same as every other QantasLink flight except they haven't painted the plane, given the crew new uniform and changed the safety card.

Great Video. Mask should be free not sold. I ask whom really making the money here ? Virgin Staff got not idea about Security risk every person once your out the door of your house you been filmed. Bottom Line. Yes you can film anywhere in a airport and aircraft there`s not laws saying you cant. People that don want to be filmed got something to hide.
