Interesting to see the Darwin International airport facilities before boarding the A330 . Then while taxiing we had a brief scintillating look at two brand new F35 A 2's parked nearby... part of the Northern Australia Defence Force.. Then the spooling up of the A330 engines and a smooth ascent. Four hours later the plane descends into Sydney after a great flight. Thanks Paul again for informative commentary and good video footage all encapsulating an enjoyable flight. Well done.
Those engines !!! So big, and forward of the wings ! It honestly looked like they were scraping along the ground during take off ! 😂 Dinner looked delicious and simple ( all that one needs), and the wine was a great way to finish it off !
I make no apologies for being a A330 phile , if there’s such a word 😀. My A330 flights far out number my 737 ones and love the 2-4-2 configuration . I’m hoping the tucker tasted better than it looked , however , Margaret looked like good company .
I flew a QF 332 only once. From HNL-SYD. I loved it. It was in economy but for a 10 hr flight it was fine. This was pre covid. And honestly coming from the "U.S." it was so much easier doing that daytime flight from HNL than a horrid redeye from Los Angeles or Dallas. I hope that HNL-SYD flight returns at some point.
Wherever possible I'd fly in an A330 rather than a B737. Particularly on long flights such as Syd-Perth, I select my flight times depending on the type of plane and choose an A330. The A330 has a big more shoulder and leg room and I reckon it is much quieter than the B737. I have mainly been in economy but have been fortunate to get an upgrade a couple of times, which is very nice. I've also flown in the A330 to China, Japan, NZ, Bangkok and Hong Kong and found them great on long haul too.
I would take the a330 over the 737 anyway, a330 (especially during this time) makes me feel like I’m flying to an international destination, but don’t mention the legroom compared to the 737.
When I do PER-MEL I always check the aircraft type, and even if it is $20 more each way, I will book the A330 flight over the 737 everytime. The USA have a love affair with their narrow body MD80/90 or 737's but tend to do a lot of hub and spoke and shorter flight travel. Their philosophy is more flights more often, so it is smaller aircraft. Australia is a big country and continent, and the transcontinental flight needs a big aircraft. Give me the A330 every day.
I'm doing this route on an A330 in a fortnight but at the 2am timeslot! I booked business class originally on 737 for a bit more space to sleep and now I get a seat/bed so I much prefer the A330 for that flight :D
Before FJ purchased its two A350s, it’s early morning SYD-NAN flight was on a 737 while the earliest return flight from Nadi was on an A330. The A330 always seemed more spacious and as you mentioned, the seating layout is perfect for childless Av-Geek couples. But I’ll take a brand new A350 over both of those options 😉
Fab review Paul! Agree, I’d fly the A330 over the 737 any day! Flew both Qantas jets and when I flew it Melbourne to Perth, it was so comfortable, especially with a great IFE and the flight just flew by! Food was dreadful though. 737s are tight and it was pretty uncomfortable. Never been a big fan of the 737, but they are a workhorse and do have a very long shelf life serving airlines for yonks. Look forward to the next video!

On a side note, glad you included some footage of our mighty Air Force including the most recent addition. Keep it up mate and as always, safe travels. 👍
Amazing that even in Winter, Darwin is STILL that warm and sunny! I saw a post on Facebook from ABC Radio Darwin about how they just had their coldest day of the year, and it was 18*c. So amusing. Winter is the dry season up there, isn't it? Summers up there must be unbearable.
Hi Paul another great video DRW look like a great little airport. I am making tentative plans to visit Shellharbour Airport and the museum, Essendon Airport has direct flights to Shellharbour.
Reminds me of when I sat in the middle row, at the back, of the 747 flying back to Johannesburg from Sydney. It was highly uncomfortable! As much as the A330 is a novelty on short distance flights, I prefer narrow body aircraft. Things on the ground seem to be faster and more efficient.
It would be helpful if you would always indicate the seat width. The legroom is one thing, but if the seats are narrow, the flight, especially a 4-hour one, could be quite unpleasant. Thanks.
