    Since that question always comes up, the grey background is a depth based greenscreen filter from reshade. There's a tutorial here: th-cam.com/video/NHZUNGNXImY/w-d-xo.html
    It can do way more than just that though if you install all the filters.

      it only looks so complicated because nobody ever builds the ship around the conveyor system, you do it as you go. so whenever it's revealed from the finished design it looks like spaghetti

    • @Gxaps

      @@Black-vo2tv I've always built my ship around my systems.
      And the ships always turn out looking terrible.
      so that's funny.

      @@Gxaps somewhat subjective in my opinion, e.g. the expanse. All ships are built around internals (I think??)

    I just wanted to ask how you come up with designs for ships like these. Where do you take inspiration from? Besides that, great video as always.

    • @MajorJon
      @MajorJon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      There is no specific inspiration for this build. I just started building a bunch of prototypes. You can see that the entire shape is pretty much dictated by the first 3 steps and it takes maybe a minute or two to get there, so I just built these super basic prototypes until I had one that looked decent. I probably throw away 80 % of these prototypes, you just see only the nice ones.

    I always desperately avoid starting with a brick because i have a hard time building out from there, so i tend to make odd shapes to start, then expand from there.

      Because I think that design should come first before function, since it's hard for conveyors etc. to dictate a shape on which you design a ship. At least in my opinion

    Thanks for making that video! It's exactly what I needed. I like your method. Don't worry about the interior, it's perfect to me, an estethic, compact and functional survival-friendly ship that is not full of useless rooms for roleplay purposes. It's big enough to be fun, small enough to be parked in the hangar of a carrier. I'll go check your other videos to see if you made anything else like this.

    This video is giving me some major inspiration. I can never figure out where to start building a ship or what to do, I always end up making a brick, meanwhile you start with a brick and make it look good. I've finally realized what I need to do, thanks to you. Use brick to get basic size, add extra parts to define shape, add more little details over time, then start adding in systems. Thank you for this!
