  • Today we are fishing for walleye on Mille Lacs. The great part about Mille Lacs is that you can fish for walleyes a number of different ways. Today we are fishing deep rock for some summer walleyes. I talk about how to pick apart big structure to find summer walleyes!

    I really like how you’re catching smallmouth and walleye. Not just the walleye. In real life you don’t only catch one species of fish. And it’s nice that you’re showing that.

    Old time Mille Lacs wisdom, when it's calm fish the mudflats. When it's windy fish the rock reefs.

    Nice to see Mille Lacs starting to come back and produce some quality fish. Hopefully the restrictions will ease as the fishery grows. Fish on!

    Another spot on video!
    Saw you out there...
    Great depiction of the current walleye positions in the water column and structure type.
    Was pretty tough to catch more than a few walleyes in one spot.
    Didn't get the smallmouth like you though.

    I was fishing for bass yesterday, and I felt a bite. 4 hard bites in quick succession. Didn’t get it in the boat, but my dad (who fishes for walleye) said it was a walleye. Unfortunate.

    Smallmouth and walleye go hand in hand. Both have the same hide outs. Both eat the same things.

      Ceramic paint coat, clean the screen really good and apply. The water slides right off no water spots! I used Simonitz brand glass coat.

    • @steves3760
      @steves3760 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Because you can't keep them. So the wounded get tossed back in. This is a public lake. Not a Indian harvest only lake. It pisses me off.

    • @alexfox2166
      @alexfox2166 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@steves3760 The entire month of July you couldn't fish for walleyes. Bass fisherman were few and far between. How many wounded fish were caught in July to create this huge amount of dead fish??? Maybe it's lack of food supply or to many apex predators in the lake, not this mysterious hooking mortality that the DNR likes to give us.

  • @TheSaltblock
    @TheSaltblock 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    how do you set the slip bobber in deep water? Do you use a weight on the hook to find depth?

  • @steves3760
    @steves3760 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have been camping at Father Hennipin State Park since I was born in '69. I remember being totally bored just sitting and waiting for walleye under slip bobbers as a kid. When my brother was old enough to take the Ouachita tri hull boat with a 75 HP Johnson out we branched off and started to cast for bass and pike. My father was a champion at walleye fishing. All he had was a Lowrance bottom finder and a memory of the lake. (We lived in Mankato). We never went without some serious walleye feeds growing up. I am willing to bet the farm that 90% of people would fail at walleye fishing using the primitive methods we used growing up. I think Tom should give it a try on any new lake. Try fishing how I was brought up.

    I love living in Canada. Free healthcare trump is not our prime minister but the navionics maps on Ontario are terriable. There might be 3 lakes that have the details of the lake. So it’s a little more challenging to find them. Toms pointers really help
