  • Today we are on Leech Lake near Walker Minnesota. Leech Lake is a great fishing destination for pretty much everything but it is very well known for walleye and musky fishing. In this video we target late summer walleyes on some deeper transition areas on Leech Lake. Leech Lake walleye fishing is often about shallow structure and in this video we show you a very quick way to cover the deeper depths of these structure and catch walleye. Thanks for watching!

    Hey Tom came across your videos about a week ago! The most informative and detailed walleye videos I’ve ever seen. From sonar to tips and tricks! Keep up the great job. You need your own show.

      This is his own show haha. It wouldn’t be as good if the people paying for the actual show were calling the shots. That’s what makes TH-cam content great... freedom to produce how they want.

    I've been watching your videos for about a year now. You do such a great job mixing it up on content between the purely technical aspects, fishing multi species, and videos where you guys are just out having fun on the water.

    Growing up less than an hour from Leech, you were very lucky to get such a calm day! the only time I've seen it that calm was during the hard water season. Keep up the great work!

    So Tom, how did you figure this stuff out? Rock to sand transitions, lead core, shad raps, etc. Was just there (fishing bass) and the walleye guys in camp were having some pretty tough days, as I'm sure I would have. Then you roll in and bingo! Success. Very impressive.

    My Terrova did that too, but i saved it in time, now I use a bungee cord around the head and then to an anchor cleat....no more issues. Cisco and Ram make a trolling motor stabilizer also if you want to get fancy.

  • @leekflower1
    @leekflower1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you have a video on how to use those type of reels? I've only used the classic open bale ones. Also have you already talked about how to land larger fish in a different video? I notice you let line out and take your time at reeling in. I'm not clear on how to know when to reel and when to let the fish take line out. Like when do you know you've tired it out when you are not sure your lb test can land the fish?

    Hey Tom!
    Hate to hear about the trolling motor glad you found a new one!
    What model TM got destroyed by self deploying?

    • @donaldjdickinson
      @donaldjdickinson 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The new one is an ulterra. I assume the old one was too because that's the minn kota that features "auto-deploy". FWIW, I read a lot of people who are looking for that style (non-cable) motor going with Terrova's instead. They are cheaper and don't have auto-deploy. The auto-deploy (hearsay warning) has reported issues in cold weather and apparently, given Mitch's experience, rough water too.

    • @jonstokes3122
      @jonstokes3122 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Don Dickinson l just switched to the Ulterra from a Terrova. I always used the lock collar on the Terrova with no issues. Both are 45” shaft. Freaked me out when I heard what happened to Mitch’s 😳
      Ulterra doesn’t have a lock collar

    • @donaldjdickinson
      @donaldjdickinson 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jonstokes3122 I love the idea of the Ulterra auto-deploy. Seems very cool. But sometimes all that extra tech means more to go wrong. Fortunately, I didn't have to choose between the two because I went with an Ultrex. I wanted cable steer + iPilot; there's only one way to get both those features.

      sorry to Mitch that must have been a horrible feeling with new boat. I will take this as a lesson and move the lock nut down in big waves, which I never do I admit. Cause I assume the head was secure on cradle and that must not have been enough.

    I was supposed to go to Leech Lake until the Minnesota governor put the mask mandates back into force. If he wasn't going to make the rioters wear them, I sure as heck wasn't. Canceled everything and stayed in Nebraska. Sorry about that, guide, cabin people, boat rental and anybody and everybody else!
