Michelle, I loved how you sewed fabric together to get the pieces for the second quilt. That's what our Grandmas and Great-Grandmas did. It is literally the purpose behind quilting. They did not take new fabric and cut it up like we do, but took leftovers and sewed it together instead. Your quilt is beautiful. Love all of Donna Jordan's patterns. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Cynthia! It might be worth exploring recycled or reused fabrics in greater detail. I have some cotton from Jason’s old work shirts (I cut away the worn and stained parts) but salvaging other fabrics is worth exploring. Thanks for watching.

Making your corner squares a bit larger and trimming is a great tip. I know as careful as I am, my seam allowance is not as accurate as I would like!

Last time, as I watched, I said “make a harlequin!” I guess you heard me! 😀 I’m planning a kaleidoscope quilt in Civil War reproduction fabrics. I have a Burgoyne Surrounded in the works; and then the leftovers will turn into the kaleidoscope. I think it will be fun! Your harlequin quilt was fun, too, and so are these! 🪡🥰

This was great seeing all of your variations. I quite like the Kaleidoscope with the dark corners-the illusionary circles were immediately clear enough for me! The piecing of the baby quilt triangles reminds me of a quilt top I have from my grandmother made in the mid 1960's out of old family clothing. You always live up to your bits and pieces title by working out how to use as much of the fabrics as you can.
If you didn’t point out the seams together pieces the eye would look over them.
I love all you quilts from this pattern “right or wrong” when they are this lovely they are never wrong.
I am privileged to own a few scrappy antique quilts and when you sit and look closely they put together all kinds of unmatched scraps to get the shape.
Your tips, tricks and strategies are as always spot on.

Oh how I loved ALL yours quilts!!! I really liked the look of the dark corners, too! I like your tip on making the corner squares a little big. No matter what quarter inch foot I use, I will always be about an eighth inch off. I figure if all my blocks are like that, it will turn out. So far they have. *knock wood* I have yet to make this pattern, but after watching you, I think I really must try it soon! Thank you for your tutorial and showing your lovely quilts!

I love that you are so honest and real (and normal!) about your quilting mistakes, thank you for that. It’s fascinating that you made mistakes the second and third time but the block still produces a coherent and beautiful quilt. I actually like no 2 best, with the dark corners. I have had this quilt in my queue for a while and when I make it I will do it with dark corners like you did. So impressed with how you got the most out of the spare pieces 👏👏

OMG, I have the exact same problem with my corner pieces sometimes falling short. Thank you so much for sharing your tip to upsize and then square down. My blocks are much better now. THANK YOU!!!!

Not mistakes it’s creative license! My son made me 2 clappers for a Christmas present and having 2 is perfect. Currently working on a log cabin quilt, yep I’ll be cobbling some fabric together for some of the logs!

HI Michelle! Great video and great instructions. I have this ruler, and a fat quarter bundle of southwest-style fabrics (a lot of turquoise, rust and gold) that I've had for literally YEARS, and I'm going to start on this, based on your inspiration! (One of many Donna Jordan patterns that I've made over the years.) I have 3 clappers and I use them all the time. I first learned about them from Nancy Zieman years ago, and I wouldn't be without them!

Clappers are the bomb!! Once I fell in love with mine, I bought two more so it's not the slow point in the whole process. By the time I get to the fourth piece to be pressed, the first is cool and ready to be rotated out (if they're really small, you can get six under the clappers before rotating the first out).

Acorn seam align glue could come in handy here for matching points when joining two halves of block together.

When moving clapper to next seam turn over so “cold” side is down each time it’s used. That is what I was taught. The colors of your fabric is beautiful

YES!! Turn the clapper over each time. It is absorbing the heat from the fabric and setting the seam. You will like it even more by turning it to the cool side.
love using the clapper! so many times i have picked up my pressed pieces too soon and my fingers get a little too hot

often I add to corner triangles for this reason. I had issues with getting a good 1/4" seam allowance for 30 years yes 30 years until a Janome instructor said in one YT video to move the needle over. OMG! really? why didn't my manual or others ever say that. Anyway, try moving your needle over 2 clicks to the right and measure. crazy simple to get my perfect 1/4". I love my clappers have had two for many years and simply will not press without them. BTW I found myself using 'bits and pieces' yesterday to make a baby quilt 6 blocks larger, I added 1 more row. yea

Do you think you could cut a kite shape for the white sections? That way, you don’t have the step of adding the corners. I think it might be worth a try.
Hi Donna - that’s an interesting idea. I wonder if it would make it harder to be really efficient with cutting, and sewing those different angles might add some complexity. But also worth looking at more closely.
