Annette, I honestly don't understand why you have less than 20,000 subscribers!! I my humble opinion, you have one of the best quilting channels on TH-cam! I love your ideas and your reasoning. Keep up the fantastic work. I am so inspired by you! (Cindy R) 🙂
I started making scrap quilts because of something I learned from crocheting potholders. In the early 80s, my mother-in-law found a pattern made with single crochet. It was a wonderful pattern made with 4-ply yarn in single crochet. I figured out how to make beautiful potholders with patterned rounds, color co-ordinated. The potholders were thick and colorful ... if it was kept clean and dry, I could use them with my cast iron skillets and never get burned. Fun to make, colorful, beautiful, EXCEPT! They were so pretty, no one would use them! They were too pretty! Well! That is not what I made them for. They were to be used and made cooking more safe! They were USEFUL! Same when I started making SCRAP QUILTS! When I would gift a "planned" quilt, people declared them heirlooms and into the closets they went. That would never do for me! At the factory, I was privileged to save scraps and thus began my quilting journey! I thought I needed to follow a pattern, but that didn't help, either. And, then I discovered your channel! You really understand the beauty and utility of scrap quilts. Yes! I put formed blocks into my scrap quilts also, but for the most part, my quilts are a riot of color with very little planning. It is always amazing to me that the finished product is intriguing. You have helped me avoid putting too much variety into my scrap quilts. Now, they look planned, but that is because I start with scraps as they come into my hand, find one accent fabric, and VIOLA! Beautiful and useful. I am going to love making this pattern. I was wondering what a quilt pattern of courthouse steps would look like with the white interspersed with the strip pieces. Daily, Annette, I am getting closer to getting my scraps "organized" into a quick, easy, inspiring piece of fabric just like you!
Wow Mary! ☀️✨ Your comments and support for the channel are really making my day! ✂️🧵 Thanks for the courthouse steps idea too! 🌼 I loved hearing about the crochet potholders! And YES I try to tell people to use the quilt! Don't just put it in a closet someplace. 💚 Have a great day! 😁
This is stuning.... I am a big fan or the monochromatic colorways!.. What makes this so special is the many different patterns... I too have a very small space, but accomplish so much more having it organized in a space that i can walk away from without having to put things away each time... rather just walk in and out when the spirit moves to create and sew! Love your channel!
Une nouvelle preuve de votre art ! Les petites choses ensemble font de grandes merveilles ! Très belle inspiration Annette et merci pour vos explications. A bientôt. Régine🇫🇷🙋🏻♀️💚🧩
Gosh I thought the log cabin turned out great, but this one is fabulous! I don't know how you come up with these ideas I wish I could live in your head for at least one day . I look forward to seeing the next one. Happy Quilting!
Hi Annette! What a fantastic design! You surprised me: I thought you were making a coin quilt, but of course, you took it to another level. I sometimes wish you were in the room when I've made blocks and am unsure of the next step! Thank you for inspiring this fellow quilter in Canada.
Thanks so much! ☀️✨ If I was in the room I'd probably say just go for it and see what happens. 🤣🌼. ALTHOUGH I am making a pattern I bought on Etsy recently and I cannot do that. I actually have to follow the directions and make the blocks correctly! ARGH. 🤣. Stay warm! ☕️.
Wow Annette, this is such a beautiful way to use scraps. I love controlled scrappy. I am combining monochromatic crumb strips in colors of the rainbow that are one and a half inches wide and plan to combine them with black and white and do a colorwash diagonally across the quilt. Now your pattern has me thinking in another direction. Thank you for your creative ideas!
I think the first video of yours I saw was the fabric bolts and I loved that idea. But really, I’m a sucker for scrap quilts and fabric made with colour families: I like my chaos to be organised! This is a really lovely quilt and an excellent idea. Thanks!
Thanks for watching! ☀️✨ I love the cohesive look as well! My scrap fabric bolts don't have that, so this year's scraps are going into the various color ways! Can't wait to see what happens in 2025! 🧵✂️
I really like this one - soooo easy. I have a lot of 1.5" pieces and strips and I'm thinking I'd make 6-6.5ish" squares with all colors and one black strip near the middle then sew them on point. Maybe you could do something like that but alternate a single green with beige in a block & vice versa.
Love this! This gives me ideas for my scrappy senior shawls. The finished top, before the corner pockets are sewn, is 18 by 66. The log cabin wouldn't work, but dividing the strip sets with sashing would. I'm going to use your idea for my tote of leftover children's fabric. You are so creative. Thank you.
What a great design for this quilt. You could make tote bags or table runners. I give scrappy tote bags away to the family all the time including small ones for the kids carry around their toys. Thanks for sharing.
You are so right! Tote bags are a great way to use up our scraps. ✂️☀️ (FYI - next video is a tote from the scraps from quilts 3&4!!! Already gifted, too! 🤣 )
Love your channel and your approach to quilting! This would be a great technique for using up scraps around a panel or larger center block. Great to coordinate by color family sometimes. Been working down my mom’s stash. These are great quilts for using up vintage fabrics even if they aren’t ‘scraps’. You have so many excellent ideas, but since you asked…1) two contrasting colors with your white and 2) a single color in blocks alternating with a ‘feature fabric’ - some larger design that looks best as a one fabric block or border. Bunch of those in mom’s stash and they are too pretty to cut up. Sometimes I start by figuring the ideal size for that fabric and base the other block size on that. Curious to see what you would do. ❤
Thanks so much! I appreciate the comments! ✨☀️ I think I'm going to incorporate your idea# 2 into my next layer cake video!!! I have some beautiful fabric I don't wanna cut!!!! 🤣 Both ideas are on the list now - for sure! 😁
Is it possible for you to demonstrate some traditional quilt block patterns, using scraps or scrap stripes in place of the bigger blocks? Thanks so much
Do you quilt these yourself? If so, I would love some videos of you quilting and finishing. I’m trying to make myself learn to quilt on my home machine and would love to watch you for inspiration. Love your videos!!

Once again you've created a unique quilt top using left-over scraps - how I love watching you create 🥰
Thank you so much, Lesley! I appreciate it! ☀️🧵✂️

I like to take the left over and make a gift bag for the quilt, that way I am putting less back in mount scrap more.
Thanks! What a great idea! ☀️🧵✂️

Beautiful Garden Square quilt. What was the finished size?
Thank you! ☀️ About 48x48, I didn't have enough to go around again! ✂️
What happens if you come up WAY short of circling the square?.... like 3 1/2 lengths around?
The quilt is 48x48 simply because I didn't have enough to go around again. I checked that I had enough for 4 sides before starting each round. ☀️
Could you show a better a picture of both quilts! They turned out GREAT..Green is my color. I don't remember if you
