    Most important point is at 3:30 - how the channels are numbered. It isn't intuitive that you have to add 10 to get the number of the channel you want to record. Thanks for mentioning that. It saved me a lot of time. Yes, if I had read the manual more carefully, I would have known that. Everything else is really intuitive about the box. I really like it. Thank you for the tutorial series !!

    What would you recommend as the best setup option for using the UI24 with Zoom/Microsoft Teams/etc in a hybrid environment?

    This tutorial can only be applied to this one particular use. A suggestion: do a tutorial with the intent of recording a band, one instrument at a time, click track monitoring from DAW, and monitoring of previously recorded instruments.
    This could apply to a major part of recording done with Ui24R.

    Thanks for the video, though I still have some doubts. I was recording drums with a Soundcraft Ui24R and I had a song to play with. Mics were recorded, song was heard on a separate channel, but I could not hear back the drums that I was playing in real time. Could you please guide where I should look for that in this particular case? Thanks in advance.

    Hello! i just got an Ui24R. I try to use it with Pro Tools Artist. As you explained, the phisical input 1 (combo XLR Jack) is giving signal in PT. That is working up to input 6. After that, from input 7 up to 20 and the 2 RCA is giving no signail in my DAW, even if in my UI control i have signal on those channels. Can you help me please? I want to use 7 mics on my drumkit, from input 11 (that should be in 21 on my DAW) up to input 17 on my Ui24R. Thanks in advance!

      The only things that you can record to DAW are the direct channel inputs, AUX sends, Left and RIght output. If you wanted to record processed channels for example you could play back recorded material from DAW to remix via the Ui24R or one trick is to play 8 channels at a time back and route each 8 channels to AUX 1-8 so you have processed outputs there.

    So I am recording my hardware synths via midi through the daw. To hear them while I am recording, local has to be patched, but then I can't hear my wave recordings at the same time, and vice versa. Is there an easier way to do this?

      Select 2 channels (say LINE INPUT 1-2) that will be your DAW returns the LR output from your DAW needs to be patched somewhere. In these 2 channels select DAW 1-2 as your inputs.

    Channels from the DAW can be mixed and routed as the others external input channels from the matrix..with eq comp reverb etc? ... its possible to route local input and usb daw input on the same channel to maintain the audio channel settings for studio recording sessions?

    • @mix-record-connect9938
      @mix-record-connect9938  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I need a little more clarification about your question. I will try to understand
      Channels from DAW in the Ui24 can be mixed and routed in the same way as input channels and adding EQ/COMP etc in the same way you would input channel- YES that's the whole idea of a virtual soundcheck BTW. It is possible to route local input and USB DAW inputs to the same channels and add one SWITCH (SOUNDCHECK) with these 2 different patching scenarios where only the input patch would change and not the EQ/COMP etc.
      Perfect for a STUDIO recording session.

      You can either make them in your DAW and send to 2 different channels on Ui24R (or directly to Ui24R outputs) or send individual channels from the DAW to mix in Ui24R. Each AUX output on Ui24R can be a full mix from Ui24 or from your DAW (look at how to patch outputs from your DAW to Ui24R)

    Big fan of the Ui16, had mine for 2 years. Delighted you're now with Soundcraft, the UMix promised so much with what I think is the best interface that anyone is offering. You've done it again with the Ui24r, will be replacing my 24 channel digital mixer (not mentioning any names) with the Ui as soon as it's out, can't wait!

      Yes you can, if you can use your plugins with an audio interface then you can use them with the Ui24R. Obviously as with an audio interface you will have some latency added (depending on the plugin as well) , there is another video showing this online (Ui24R with Waves plugins)

  • @oldmanstuart
    @oldmanstuart 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for this video, very helpful. I am not quite sure what the advantage is of mapping the output to a different channel, and also which channel to pick (or can I use any un-used channel?) If the output is coming back via the Soundcraft UI24R to either phones or monitors, why would I need to turn it up or down independent of the track itself? Hope that question even makes sense...?

    • @mix-record-connect9938
      @mix-record-connect9938  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      In an audio interface you have specific INPUTS and OUTPUTS all assigned to USB. In a Ui24R you have multiple inputs and outputs you can assign, USBA(MTK recorder/player), Mic preamp, Line, USB B(DAW). Having this flexibility means you must assign your DAW returns somewhere, to a channel on the mixer and you must tell that channel where it's audio is coming from. Think of it like a big patch bay.

    • @oldmanstuart
      @oldmanstuart 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      But if left 1:1, it seems to work OK, I assume - just more flexibility if assigned to a different channel. Is that it?

    • @mix-record-connect9938
      @mix-record-connect9938  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      you still need to patch it to be 1:1 (for inputs) but in future firmware you will have other parts you could patch so it's required. Many users use the LINE INPUT to patch from DAW LR so that channels 1-20 are left as inputs to the DAW with real time monitoring control on the Ui.

    Hey thank you so much for your tutorials! You're a great guy.
    I tried it several times to connect the Ui24R to Cubase (Mac) but I doesn't work :-(
    I switched the VST-Audio system to the Soundcraft UI24R and patched all the VST-Connections.
    VST-Input:
    Mono In 1 - Soundcraft UI24 11
    Mono In 2 - Soundcraft UI24 12
    Mono In 2 - Soundcraft UI24 13
    ....etc.
    VST-Output:
    Stereo Out1 - Soundcraft UI24 1
    Stereo Out1 - Soundcraft UI24 2
    ...etc.
    Also I patched the USB-DAW 1:1 in Soundcheck-Mode and activated it.
    But it doesn't work.
    No signal comes into the DAW (Cubase).
    And I don't get any signal from the DAW to the Ui24R (no click, no wav sound I imported...)
    Can you give me some advice?
    Best!

I know that there is a HW gain fader, but it kinda sucks, that you have to search it every time you need it... :/ it would be awesome if you could set an insert, say where you want to have the software output of it and what the software retun is... that way, the gain fader stays visible and at the same time you could run waves multirack, a daw or similar... this console is awesome anyways but that feature would make it even better... :D

    SO many interface demo videos discuss Pro Tools, Reaper, Ableton and Cubase, but rarely Sonar, which is phenomenal. I guess all of the Sonar guys just stick to recording. It would be cool to see some of these interface companies try to connect with us Sonar users though. At least some of them demonstrate on PCs. So many of us use PCs out here, but demo after demo is Mac and Thunderbolt.. I'm just saying that I'd like to see more interface demos with Sonar, PCs and maybe usb 3.0. That's all.

    • @mix-record-connect9938

      Normally not, because if you want to change anything later you cannot, you could play back the DAW tracks to the Ui24 and record the mix that gives you a chance to fix and change. If you must reocrd (for example Guitar FX) you can send the channel to an AUX and record the AUX that will be POST PROCESSING.

    I have a question, so let's say you have recorded 16 tracks live and then want to add some new tracks via the DAW but somehow record back to UI24R? Or basically you would record everthing to DAW and add new tracks directly in DAW bwo UI24R? @@mix-record-connect9938 Well, still a bit confused and sorry. So I have 16 tracks on the UI24r USB and want to add a couple of tracks to that existing recording. In a perfect world, I would have the ability to playback the 16 tracks on the UI24R and record/add a 17th track on the UI24R. However, that is not possible. Thus, need to get DAW into the picture. I see no way to patch those 16 recorded tracks over into the DAW. The patch is either USB to Input or Input to DAW. I think I am just missing a larger overview of what needs to take place to basically either A) add tracks to existing UI24R USB Multitrack recording and B) do an actual studio type of recording session where perhaps the foundation is done live, but all other parts are added after the fact. In a perfect world, use DAW for as little as possible. Also, I'm happy to pay for some of your time. We can connect directly to the unit, do PP etc. etc. I've been in IT for over 30 years and a few different engineering degrees. I'm just missing the overall flow schema....I think. Hi, i got a problem with the sample rate, i want to create a session in Protools with 44000 khz, but i got a text with "the device only supports 48000 khz" any idea? how can i change the sample rate of the UI24R?

    • @mix-record-connect9938
      @mix-record-connect9938  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You cannot change Ui24R it is a hardware mixer with fixed sample rate. In protools if you want to change the sample rate of a session, make a session backup then Create a new blank session at the desired sample rate and bit depth. Then import Session Data and convert.

    I Have tried to hook up the Ui24R to my DAW (Cubase 9.5 PRO) with 2 different Ui24R´s . . . to 3 different computer and 3 different USB cables. The computers doesnt find the Ui24R... Firmware updated to 2.0 on the first Ui.. and on the other.. no update.. its brand NEW! Tried on both MAC and PC! Any suggestions what i might do wrong?

      Firmware on Ui24R does not matter, when you connect to a MAC you can go to the audio midi setup and see it's there, I presume you are using the USB B cable to USB A on your computer.

    The last 3-4 minutes of this video show how to route DAW output back into a channel on the Ui24, but doesn’t discuss WHY. I’m new to recording and don’t understand this. My best guess is to hear playback through the headphone jack on the Ui24? I think there’d be too much latency to use this routing for monitoring.

    • @mix-record-connect9938
