Day 15 of asking to make a video about why young Chinese men are not interested to marry anymore. Is it because Dowry system? Or housing prices? Or other economic and social issues. I just want to know.
And day 12 of asking to make a video explaining why white men think Chinese girls are easy. I really want to know.
      Kindly consider my request.

Maybe it's not a Courage or Confidence issue that is the problem. Maybe it's a Men are not ATM's or Into dating A Female Masculine "Man" that is the Issue in America at least. The Women become the Man they are Looking for... Then Emotionally Abandoned 80% of American and now it's definitely not going to be the desired outcome for them. Population Collapse is an Extinction of a Nation. No Children.. No Future Adults.. Then a Weak Country.. Zero National Defense.. Finally No more Nationality.. Simple because then Dominos Human Species extinction event... Due to lack of Genetic Diversity... Good Luck

By the way 现实 keeps being translated as "materialistic" in the subtitles, but it also means to be realistic or pragmatic. Just thought I'd point out the nuiance in the discussion here. I enjoyed the video, thanks for sharing the perspectives of these people!

I was also surprised by that, but I think is a nice way to express the priority is the proof and or presence of economic solvency. In not so polite words "materialistic".

but if we take into the context of what was being said, mostly talking about dawry, financial safety, earnings, etc. It is all from a materialistic point of view. So, from the most part of when I read the word, it seemed to fit well with what was being said.

    • @holtharvey
      @holtharvey หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Most English speakers would viscerally translate this as materialistic. Most Chinese would think this materialism is a practical approach to life, not the western concept of accumulating material things as a display of status. I always struggle to translate it directly when the word comes up in a Chinese conversation with my wife, and we end up discussing exactly what is meant by the term, because it automatically comes across as materialistic in my mind. Practical seems more benign or noble as it typically used in English, while in Chinese the ‘practicality’ is typically related to financial security

I love your initial questions and follow up questions. They aren’t generic and it’s like listening to a real conversation between friends. You don’t just come out and say “Chinas population is falling” but how you say “Does left over men have a negative impact on society” -- it creates an opportunity for diverse ideas to emerge which is so satisfying. Not only learning Chinese and listening but getting real viewpoints. This channel is seriously underrated and I hope it becomes more popular.

*TOO FAST?* Control the video's playback speed by speeding up or slowing down the video 5% at a time on desktop computers and laptops OR 25% at a time on smartphone!
Access the playback speed controls as follows:
*Desktop Computers and Laptops:* open the video, then go to the lower right of the video's screen and click on the settings icon (it looks like a GEAR). On the upper right of the options window that comes up, you will see the link "custom". Click on the "custom" link to control the video's playback speed by speeding up or slowing down the video 5% at a time.
*Smartphones:* open the video and go to the upper right of the video's screen. You will see 3 dots. Click on them and you will see the link to open the "playback speed" controls. Click on this link and you will be able to control the video's playback speed by speeding up or slowing down the video 25% at a time. Note that viewing the video on desktop computer/laptops gives you greater control over the playback speed (5% vs 25% on smartphones).

I guess my boyfriend, part Tai and Chinese, is a Shengnan when we first met. It has taken a long while for me to get him to disclose more about himself. I can’t prove what he’s telling me is true or not, but he tells me that I’m his first - that is, I’ve broken his virginity (he is not my first). He says he has held out for so long in hopes of finding an Asian American girl who shares his values of remaining celibate until after those marriage vows are exchanged. I remember dating him for a long time before persuading him that no such women exist nowadays. I’m so glad he finally saw it my way. We’re quite happy together. Luckily, my grandpa likes him a lot.

I am Chinese but I was born and raised abroad. I don't think dowries are reasonable at all. Yes, my parents raised me and spent a lot of money, but I am not a pet nor cattle, and I am not being sold to another family. After marriage, I am part of two families/ we are one big family. And my parents had me because they wanted children, not an economic gain. I think a lot of the girls in the video only agree to dowries because they gain something but deepdown they know it is not right. It does not align with the "independent woman" theme.
They should normalise starting at the botton with your partner. Rent together, buy a house together, buy a car together. Build a life together. I always thought that was normal.
No wonder they have so many problems in China, they created their problem on their own. And I also know problems also arise because the parents od the couple is medding too much. Relationships should be focused on the two people in the relationship first, and the extended family second.

Thats right. Every girl wants a sugar daddy to take care of them, have everything set for them, to replace their dad. A house and car and plenty of money to buy them all sorts of presents they dont need. In reality, they appreciate these things less than they would if they grew up with the man, and went through every stage of becoming successful together to work for what they have. Instead, what happens is the woman will cycle through men, lose her virginity, get ran through until she finds a rich one she likes, to take advantage of his hard work and life savings. That is so crazy. What happened to true love?

With that being said, it is better to be single than have women who will just drag you down, emontionally, psychogically etc. No reason to be in a relationship with someone who doesn't bring good things into your life, only to remain partnered to someone.

The pressure on men in China to purchase a house, car, and provide a dowry in order to gain acceptance from a woman's family creates a significant social and financial burden. This expectation has led to a system where young couples are often unable to afford homes on their own, especially given that many earn less than 10,000 yuan a month, far below the necessary income to buy property in today’s inflated market. As a result, wealthier families are stepping in to buy homes for their children, perpetuating class divides and making it nearly impossible for poorer individuals to marry. This cycle of dependency on family wealth not only hinders social mobility but also drives housing prices even higher, further widening the gap between the rich and poor. Ultimately, this tradition exacerbates inequality and limits personal freedom in marriage choices, making it difficult for many to achieve a stable, independent life.

a wise question to follow up on this interview, as a reason for why men are choosing to refuse to pursue women with the same will power as their parents, and grandparents, might be primarily due to the prevalance of internet porn. Making a happier and more fulfilling society may improve western impression of China and gain much more respect than militarily. May also help solve the population shrinkage that all nations face in developed countries.

"Leftover" men and women is not a problem unique to China, but a problem endemic to first world nations where the belief that money and personal freedom are more important than children and family prevails. Even in the United States, it is not the wealthy who are breeding, but the poor and the immigrants. People care more about amassing as much hell money as possible than living a meaningful life. I love chinese culture on the whole, its fascinating how they evolved culturally, financially and a economic power house that it is.But when it comes to the human side of how people are treated or even traded particularly women its miles and miles away behind. Why do parents put their sons and daughters under pressure to get married so badly in their 20 s? i watch tv dramas and the themes are all the same. no wonder the birth rate is dramatically falling and population shrinking. there is exodus of people leaving china particularly the young generation who wants to see the world and enjoy life.
where i came from people get married and find new partners at the age of 50 and 60s, there is no such thing like left overs, This is a term that we use for discarded food non edible.
