This was far more of an “experience” than a review, some features we didn’t even know or cover because we used the GH7 for what we needed, BUT I have the option to go a bit deeper vs an Arri camera of there’s interest (aka, like this)

I love that after shooting with the GH5 for 7 years I can keep all my favourite lenses and just upgrade to the GH7. I'm so used to the M43 system. Thank you very much

Micro 4/3 is light, small, relatively inexpensive for a kit, and makes a lot of sense. I've used it for stills and video since 2015. Lumix may have found a niche in the pro market with the GH7 as a B or C on an Arri set. But many of us are still photographers who also make videos of events, or training content, or commercials for TV and cable, or low budget films... We have no need for the Arri Log C3 feature, but there are plenty of features in the GH7 we WILL use. Full frame is great, but who wants to spend $13,000 on a 600mm lens when an $1800 Micro 4/3 100-400mm lens will reach further? Maybe you need full frame at dusk in the woods, or in places where you can't/don't have auxiliary lighting, but in many places, the GH7 will do. Like you, I can't wait for a new version of the S1H with features similar to the GH7 (plus a few new goodies). The great news here is that a small, light, inexpensive, rugged camera is workflow-compatible with high end Arri pro gear, and that has many use cases. When the footage drops into Resolve and works just like what came out of an Arri, it's an efficiency win. Maybe you mount a GH7 in a dangerous location where you would be reluctant to sacrifice an Arri. Maybe you use three GH7s and an Arri for multiple camera angles in situations where four Arri cameras would be cost-prohibitive. It's a nice option to have...

This is a great conversation, I love the point about the "Warning Shot" and I completely agree. The industry is changing and I can't wait to see how this shakes up the video production space. Micro Four Thirds is the silent minority when it comes to users. We love our cameras but we are always afraid to talk about sensor size. The fact that it can color match to an ARRI camera is a complete conversation changer.

that wouldnt surprise me, though, the ARRI logc is a specific license agreement with Arri for just the GH7 ( so far)

Great review guys! As an Indie Filmmaker who shot my first feature film, "Loving Till It Hurts" (on Tubi) on the GH3 and GH4, some people thought I shot it on a RED camera, I can appreciate seeing the upgrades on the GH7. Truthfully, I never bought another camera since then up until the iPhone 15 Plus, which I'm looking to shoot my 5th feature on. So I'm definitely looking to shoot on the GH7 as well. I love Lumix GH micro 4./3 camera.
You’ll love it !
The grade might match, but the quality of your Alexa footage is still leaps and bounds more cinematic. The Alexa has that smooth, velvet texture to it.
Having said that, I probably wouldn’t notice that level of detail if it wasn’t placed back to back.
As photographers, it's easy to forget that the average movie viewer doesn't sit there and say, "Oh, that was filmed with Brand X and that was filmed with Brand Y." No one except for cinematographers really cares, once the show is released. That said, workflow and budget considerations may well determine when a GH7 fits the bill. I don't think anyone at Panasonic or Arri thinks of the GH7 as a replacement. It's more of an augmentation to high end workflows.
Great video. I have the g9 íi and pre-ordered the gh7 because of the flip screen and express card. I upgraded from an A1 because m4/3 has more reach for wildlife.

ARRI log C on the GH7 isn't ARRI colors, it's still Panasonic colors, just shifted around, and it still has the Panasonic Magenta/orange shift. It's also (like you said) more saturated.
I’d maybe contact Arri as they’re the ones who actually rated the log curve for the iso with Lumix, unfortunately even arri to arri cameras will have temp and tint shifts
Wow , its worth waiting , this video compared to about 20 review videos of GH7 actually has the eyes in focus on the GH7 , yes i know it has PDF , but for some reason despite no bad pulsing in those reviews , the footage never looked as pro as the gh6 or 5 for that matter , but this video , it looks fine , GO FIGURE LOL , any way thanks for up loading , some times its great to be late for the party . cheers 👍👍👍👍👍

I have the FX30 but the only reason I would want to change is for the 32 bit internal audio...as a one man band...I would love to hit record and not have to worry about sound...heck even if you listen to this interview at 15:40 the sound clips twice....I went out on Sunday and have about 2 hours of video that is borderline useless because of audio...for anyone doing documentary type work, or youtube work...this image is secondary...all cameras with a log profile make a good image...it is the sound that counts...
The big question everyone is waiting to see answered is how does Vlog with a CST to Arri Log, with then a lut applied from Ari look vs the Arri log internal? Does it look the same, different, etc.
I may try it, MAYBE at 800iso, but arri adjusted for color shift via iso for every level I think
At least you admit that TH-camrs conditioned their audience to believe that anything not full frame isn’t good enough. Glad the gh7 was a good example for you.
That’s not exclusive to TH-camrs. I worked in camera retail for years, and workers said the exact same thing, tbf there was truth to it years ago as a lot of tech WAS reserved for larger sensor cameras 👍🏾

The GH7 is basically a feature packed version of the S5 II with better rolling shutter, with the drawback of having a smaller sensor. My hope is the Z6 III with its partially stacked sensor sets a new trend of cheap 6K full frame cameras with low rolling shutter. Perhaps the S2H gets a partially stacked sensor in the 14 stop range, and with the 6K+ resolution benefit there will not be much reason to pick up a Mini LF any longer. Arri might have to be careful about handing out their colour science too freely because they could be shooting themselves in the foot if things do head in that direction. As for the Alexa 35, its probably going to be some time before any midrange cameras get close to its ballpark.

Still pretty close in skin tone rendering, looks like a very fine specialty camera similar to how the FX3 fits into a Sony sensor based production!

I'm hoping to keep my FX30 and get the GH7. If that happens, I will create a LUT for FX30-to-ARRI. So, whenever I shoot with both the FX30 and the GH7, I can match the FX30 with the GH7 with ARRI LUT.

Someone on my Lumix S5iix group has already taken the GH7 and matched the Arri look a few days ago for full frame Lumix S series cameras. I downloaded it, but it's still sitting in a folder on my computer. There were some similarities with Panasonic V-log already, so it appears it wasn't that hard to mimic. I'm sure there are ways to get it on a Sony as well.
@@quentin6233 Yea, that’s what I would love to do if I can get my hands on the GH7. I thought about switching completely. Though I’d love to work with two cameras. If I were to switch, I would want to get the XLR2 device and ARRI LUT. The internal 32-bit audio recording. Internal ProRes raw, near gimbal like stabilization are all so tempting.

Can you do a comparison between the gh7 & s5iiX? For some strange reason EVERY reviewer has avoided this topic. Besides the question of question of full-frame vs m4/3 how do they stack up, what’s workflow like between they etc

I don’t understand how it’s 2024 and “video professionals” still say things like “well if you want a wider shot, micro 4/3 has a 2x crop so it won’t work”. What?! Do people not understand theres lenses for micro 4/3 that give you a 12mm full frame equivalent?!?
I think it might be the idea that having that 4/3 lenes would ONLY work on a micro 4/3, where like a wide angle is backwards compatible (while having to consider crop obviously) , I’m just guessing really
