Nice video, I may not agree that we don’t need raw but I agree with everything else.
Raw for me is REALLY Really nice, but hasn’t much stopped me from things, which is why I feel it’s a WANT (that cameras could of had years ago if not for funny patent trolls), but even in films, Netflix, sports and tv, it’s some flavour of 4:4:4 or even 4:2:2 being output
I definitely feel the same raw for me makes my workflow easier because of the capability of flexibility on able to do however, I don’t necessarily like it and hybrid cameras just because when I pick up Camera, it’s not something I gravitate to. I like it in red type of style cameras, but it’s just hard for me to look at a mirror camera as a cinema camera.
@@Framesbyfrisby I guess that comes down to our personal definition/standard of what a camera a cinema camera for our use case.
Well done, Kofi. I now have two S5iiX's, bought for open gate, fan cooling, hour long continuous recording in the sun on hot days. I'm loving the reliability, detail, cropping freedom, and color grading flexibility of the 6k full frame 420 10 bit files compared to what I used to use, which was either micro sensor camcorders or m43 photo-centric bodies with a record time limit and no fan.
I’ve had one for a couple months, the S5IIx has been great!

I have the fx3 and a7siii , they are so versatile for shooting Real estate which is what I do ... for social media purposes the a7siii takes amazing photos as well ...
The FX3 has been one of the most useful things Sonys ever made ahah

LUMIX is heading in the right direction, but I would really like to see their take of an entry level vlogging camera with good autofocus. Something like g9ii with smaller form factor and price under 1k. It also feels like the next right step is a full frame gh7 that is a true video beast.
Maybe down the pipeline !

i agree that most regular clients won't notice a difference in quality. It's more for the creator/producer making the project. 5-10 years ago we didn't care much about raw. We had great ideas and we went to work, clients were happy and kept creating. I simply don't believe the hype anymore.
I think that’s exactly it, and there’s nothing wrong with that! It’s kinda like cars, having a 200 horsepower car means nothing when you have to drive the speed limit. We can just be okay liking nice things

What I want: 1. Dynamic Range. 2. Low light capability. 3. Rigging ability. I use the Canon R6 OG and it's just lackluster in DR, color and rigging (micro HDMI SUIUUUCKS). When the FX3ii drops, I'm getting a used FX3 because the price will drop.
I think we’re all collectively waiting for what comes from that Sony FX line, I got my cash stash ready to go 😂

@@JJARCHIE the Nikon is a hell of a buy at $2500, but it is missing some key things. Nothing I don't think which would prevent using it to make content

Something that I really got over was lower T stop numbers. Anything lower than 2.5 your background is distractingly blurry. And for a lot of scenes 4 and higher are going to show off your scenery or production design a lot more. I just watched Percy Jackson on Disney yesterday and man do they want to show off those T stops at the expense of everything else.
But I do want 8K, and I think 12K on medium format is the next step. Even if you are oversampling down to 4K you're getting a much clearer image, and by oversampling you're getting natural noise reduction without the side effects internal processing has. Arri says in their Signature Prime video they have 8K and above in mind so even they see see the benefit of higher resolutions.
I personally am looking to upgrade from my S5 not to anything new, but to a Sony Alpha 1 and using it with a Ninja V to record 4.3K raw so it bypasses the internal noise reduction.

Just a heads up. I used to film with the Sony A1, and as much as I loved that camera and its 50mp/8K, it had overheating problems even when recording externally to get its oversampled 8K to 4K signal. After a while I was constantly nervous that it would overheat again during a shoot at an unfortunate moment. But if that’s not a concern, then it’s easily one of the best cameras on the market.
But I’m with you on resolution (I now have a GFX100, Fuji XH2, and Blackmagic 12K) and you’re absolutely correct about its benefits. I’m a believer in higher resolutions and it’s silly that the conversation always gets stuck on the “cropping” benefits only. One day people are gonna realize that many of the very VERY expensive cinema cameras from the past used oversampling (some up to 6/8K in some cases) in camera to achieve that wonderful looking 1080p. Oversampling has been an extremely undervalued tool these days.
And if the goal is to not shoot RAW, but instead to lean on 444 and higher bitrates, oversampling has been shown to repurpose resolution pixels for additional color and chroma data in the oversampling process; in some cases bridging the gap between 420 and 444.

@@robwillmarsh I watched his video, too. I was all hyped about getting the A1 because of it. All I can say is that it still randomly overheated for me. It happened 3 times over a span of several months before I decided it wasn’t worth the anxiety anymore. If it wasn’t for the overheating, I’d probably consider it the perfect hybrid camera. Your mileage may vary.
Very insightful video. To be honest right now I want camara companies to prioritize open gate and internal RAW (at the same time). The flexibility for Open Gate is so useful for clients in the social media space. My wish is that the Sony FX3 II has open gate 6k 60fps internal RAW.
Well fx3 is a super low megapixel camera, it cant do more than 4k and i doubt version 2 will have more
It would definitely have to have new guts to run all that and high iso performance, but if be fine if the dual base went down to like 6400 to do it ( idk if that’s a logical ask
@@KofiYeboah I don't the LowLight in the FX3 is god tier. Now that I think about it, if the FX3 II has open gate and internal RAW (at the same time) I don't mind if it is 4k. Hey maybe it would be 5k downscale to 4k.

They definitely have a giant value prop, I will say, I think we’re not in the ‘switching’ market but either a new entrant market or an update market, the Z6iii is objectively perfect at its price, but despite that, I won’t flinch to sell my a7cii and my Sony lenses just to have it

It's great seeing all these new cameras at different price points being dropped. Despite the complaints that seem to surface with each new camera, the fact that we have more choices, and more affordable choices, is a win in and of itself.
Regarding the criticisms of these cameras, I find similarities with film critics. Often times, film critics will attack a movie simply because they don't like how the story is told. As if there is only one way to tell any one story. They ignore what the filmmakers were trying to achieve. The same happens with cameras. People complain about features they say are "missing" from a new camera. Ignoring the price of the camera compared to other cameras with the feature. The Blackmagic PYXIS comes to mind. People complained about it not having internal ND's while ignoring the fact that it was 1/3 the cost of its nearest competitor, the Red Komodo X.
Anyway, we can talk about the good and the bad of cameras and their reviews. In the end, it comes down to your case needs. Some people just need a ZV-1 for their TH-cam videos. Others are more serious filmmakers who want more out of their cameras. Which means higher costs for the additional features.

I think what we should also talk about is the current economic state of the world. Cameras and this media industry are becoming way more accessible than before while still giving high quality products. An entrepreneur can now create their own marketing material without relying on a contractor or hired professional.
It’s definitely a different kinda world now !
