This also applies to enemy pokemon too. If your favorite pokemon gets KO'd by a surprise crit or super effective attack, they all look at you like *"YOU ARE NEXT"*
I love how cries were actually something put to use in this game. When you walk out in about in the wild, you could hear all the different pokemon cries and it sounded like being outside in nature. If you recognized a certain cry, you might get excited as you ran around looking for that pokemon. It was cool to see my Infernapes wild spirit for battle as he sat there roaring in his enemies face waiting for me to tell him to attack. Then you have my casual Espeon who was like sitting there meowing haha
The main thing I see in this game is potential. Everybody is talking about wanting a Legends Celebi/Unova-Dragon but I hope this series will not restrict itself to medieval stuff. Imagine a gritty 1960s style Kanto where you infiltrate Team Rocket lead by Madame Boss searching for Mew or a future Hoenn where space travel is an integral part of the gameplay and you uncover the secrets of Deoxys.
I've actually thought space travel would work really well for a legends version of the alola games, ultra wormholes give lots of room for creativity, and new ultra beasts could be a cool new group of pokemon for the game to introduce like Legends Arceus' hisuian forms.
@@stonalisa3729 too bad they are gonna do it anyway whether you or me like it or not sadly and I say this as someone who's childhood poke region is kanto 😭
21:16 I hope Gamefreak does capitalize on the environmental changes that a pokemon might make. Especially because of some of the new pokemon introduced. Grafaiai is essentially a graffiti artist so it would be cool if it'd only show up near graffiti marks letting you know they're around.

@@DistantKingdom I think it may come down to the playstyle. Judging by what you said, compared to my playtime you blitzed through the game both times. I don't remember how many hours I clocked by the time I beat Volo but it was significantly more than 20. I explored all areas really extensively on first visit with high dex completion, so by the time I hit Icelands, I was rank seven, I think. It just felt natural to do it that way. And because I was spending so much time at once in one part of the map, I didn't run into issues with Distortions, either. I've run into a lot of them. Plus, I was being pretty conservative with balls, I suppose? Idk. The side effect of this playstyle though was that I only found out that Outbreaks are a thing that exists from online coverage. Because I often would be mostly done with an area on the first visit, I've never encountered one until I started specifically looking for them. That was first playthrough. On the second playthrough, I wanted to just run through it as fast as possible which made grinding for ranks an annoying requirement. Still no cash issues though. Perhaps because I kept catching to minimum? I dunno. I mostly just wanted to face Volo with a single Scizor.
@@DistantKingdom I guess you just were very inefficient at using money, probably because you have to actually admin your money unlike other pokemon titles.
The wurmple guy does do the evolution to show the passage of time thing, the only problem is that his Pokemon will only evolve if you talk to him in certain points He even gives you a sidequest in the game for you to show him a silcoon, since he can't tell the difference between his cascoon and a silcoon, that sidequest is quite funny actually
Scarlet and Violet were developed mostly at the same time as Legends , they might've even started at the same time, there's almost no way they would be able to implement something just because people liked it in Arceus, fully including what worked might not be until gen 10
I can’t believe you didn’t talk about the lack of a mini map! It was very frustrating to have to open the full map every time I needed to know where I was. And it didn’t help that the button you use to open the map cannot be used to close the map. You have to press a different button to close it. Another thing that was really frustrating is when you die in a Noble battle, it asks you if you’d like to continue, and “no” is where the cursor starts at, causing you to have to move the cursor to select Yes. Then, it asks if you’d like to continue from where you were in the battle, or start all the way over with the boss at full HP, and the full HP option is where the cursor starts at!!! So you then have to move the cursor to indicate that you’d like to start from where you left off. Absolutely frustrating game design when you’re already losing at a boss battle and are angry.
mmm i never found myself really using the map. the world is kinda empty in terms of interacting with stuff so you don't rly need it if you aren't looking for something specific
@@DistantKingdom I second this. Sure it wouldn't have hurt to have the option to have a mini map, but I never missed it. (To be fair, I disable the mini map in Xenoblade games so I might not be the most reliable source)
I think the money and resource management is a nice new challenge and added layer to the gameplay loop. I liked figuring out how to optimize doing multiple objectives at once, and getting by on what I had. Things are expensive on purpose - you can stop and grind for stuff if you want, but if you're trying to be fast and tactical, like your gameplay style seems to be, it's gonna be harder, like using under-leveled pokemon.
Mmm it was more tedious than challenging. Sure you can grind, nothing challenging about that..but even the grind itself has additional layers of tedium
@@DistantKingdom Maybe, and I know some aspects like not being able to throw things while riding pokemon are dumb, but I'd gotten used to it. I think the tedium would be more apparent and annoying on a second playthrough though, which you've done and I haven't.
You brought up some points I never thought about, so that's cool Btw, Beaugene's Wurmple does evolve as you progress through the game, though I don't remember what the condition for each evolution is.
@@DistantKingdom You need to have caught 35 different kinds of pokemon then after that another 10 for it to evolve again. Although the fact you have to go out of your way to talk to him for it is kinda lame instead of it just happening naturally
The thing with space time distortions is that they form every 10 minutes of active playtime, they stop forming properly if you teleport or sleep longer than 'just a little while'
Funny how a majority of the complaints are features related to resource-management... It's a new flavor added to the franchise, and I for one like it. It forces you to prioritze on collecting specific items rather than hoarding everything inside a portable black hole. People criticize the Resident Evil games for the same thing, and they are all missing the point. It's resource-management. Also, I never had a problem with money in all of my three playthroughs so far. The prize you get from cathcing mons and actually doing the research tasks outpaces the costs of buying items, and you should never be buying balls or potions in the first place. If you prioritize which items you collect in your catching outings, you will always be in a surplus. This is the first game which completely abandons hand-holding and forces you to consider the opportunity cost of what you do with your resources.
I double-checked, it evolves when you complete Cascoon's Pokedex entry up to level 10 and have captured a Silcoon. Some people are also saying you need to evolve two wurmples before it happens.
@@LordEpos interesting. well that's super cool it evolves! wish it was tied to progression instead of whatever the actual trigger is so it could trigger every time
It's weird. There's so much more that can be done, but as an immersive sim that makes you follow consistent rules, it was exactly what I needed. The Noble Pokemon were intimidating, the Growlithe's story was touching, and there's these little touches that do make wild Pokemon unique to encounter and interact with. Hell, Arceus's speech to you at the end was inspiring and heartwarming. It feels like a lot of the things you considered "not the game" was the intended game Game Freak was selling. Obviously the story loop wouldn't appeal to everyone, but seeing all these characters and speculating on what modern characters came from their bloodline...it was great for me, and I'm a lore junkie. I dunno, maybe I'm that wackadoo that thinks needing to punch the jukebox to make it play gives it more character instead of a normal person reaching in and fixing the faulty gears.
@@DistantKingdom they never did for me and from what I noticed they also had a different start place for the throwing (not the player's hand) and I think this is why it's easy to miss with them up close.
Mostly agree with this video and I'm glad you also enjoy the game more than any other Switch Pokémon games Just want to clarify: the Wurmple outside the HQ does evolve, you just have to chat to the NPC to do so
I feel most of these issues could have been fixed if the game had more time in development but overall it’s a very fun Pokémon game and your review is fair and honest about it
facts and agreed I wish Pokémon games would get delayed we don't need Pokémon mainline games every year much rather they take their time developing them 😭
@@niteriemcfarlane5285 it’s crazy to think we got 3 games in a single year!! Like they could have done dlc for BDSP and release that in the summer and then release legends Arcues this November and then SV in the next year but nope they want all the money
The only few things that I were miffed about in this game was that fact that Vaporeon doesn't swim you when you throw it out in the water or as you said earlier that you can only interact with the world on basculegion and not on the other nobles
That unsettling. I took great joy tossing out different pokemon to see how they interacted with water. Ghosts would float, fish would swim, birds would fly, and my fat ass Snorlax got a raft xD. I thought it was very cool that even though Decidueye was a grass/fighting, it was still able to fly because at the end of the day it was an owl. Vaporean not swimming is odd.
@@DistantKingdom Yeah it first evolves to a Cascoon which he mistakes for a Silcoon. He then later realizes his mistake, when it evolves further to Dustox
Yeah, dude even gets the evolution wrong at first and apologizes to the Pokémon when you show him his mistake. I thought that was kind of cute, it sells the point that Pokémon aren’t well understood, but the people are starting to accept them for what they are even if they don’t always turn out the way they expected.
@@DistantKingdom After some searching on Google, this is what I could find: - Add both Cascoon and Silcoon's entries in the Pokedex by evolving both from Wurmples. - Receive an explanation from the Professor about Research Tasks during the main story. - Complete Request 1: Wurmple Can Evolve. - Capture at least 35 species of Pokemon in your Pokedex. - Talk to Beauregard after fulfilling the above requirements.
12:20 Final Fantasy X has a really good way of showing speed that I think could work for Legends. On the top right there's pictures of the characters and the enemy which indicates who will move each turn. If let's say Tidus uses haste then it'll show how many additional turns Tidus will have. Sorry if I'm explaining it poorly in FFX its illustrated quite clearly who moves on what turn and the affects of slow and haste.
The narrative was legit way more mature . The two moments that will always stick with me are 1: When you are ousted from the town and Benji's true xenophobia shows it's face. He's a massive bigot. 2: When Volo reveals he's been grooming you. Just wow man, wow.
God, the pokemon storage system drove me nuts in this game, too! I would have really loved the ability to sort by name or dex number or something. Trying to manually organize my pokemon was so frustrating! It would have been nice to be able to sort by a certain criteria, but also maybe be able to mark a pasture to exclude it from the sorting if you wanted to have certain pastures for certain things, IE shinies or legendaries.
3:36 although the lack of proper sorting is frankly horrendous, this point you make here is not correct. You can switch to a "box view" with Plus, if I remember correctly, and then only the "boxes" that contain the Pokémon you're searching for will be highlighted, so you do not need to scroll through every box to find them.
Um… Actually, the sorting feature does work better than you thought. After you’ve sorted for the pokemon you want, hit the plus button. This button will show all of the boxes, and the boxes with red pokeballs, not greyed out ones, have that pokemon in it. Sure, you still need to search the box itself, but that is muuuuuch easier.
Pretty much agree with everything you said. One thing I want to add is that I personally found it annoying when the continuously flying Pokémon never landed to eat berries/cakes or sleep. Also Burmy and Wormadam models suggest they're dangling from trees, but in practice they're just dangling from thin air. Let them dangle from trees when you smack them out of one and let Pokémon go on the ground. Apart from that, I really enjoyed Arceus and I'm tempted to do a second play through which is something I'll never say about Sword and Shield.
Awesome review man, this game was such a breath of fresh air, it’s not perfect and still has odd decisions, the risk was absolutely worth it to break the mold after 8 generations. Scarlet and Violet seem to be doing their own thing because they were developed at the same time as PLA, we won’t know the true effect of PLA’s reception until afterwards. Also on a personal note, I am so happy that such a cool game as PLA took place in Gen 4, my favorite generation. Here’s to the future
3:56 I've noticed this is only with the flying balls. Like the Wing/Feather/Jet Balls. It's because of they seem to throw in an erratic and different altitude to the other balls. I guess the reverse of the Heavy/Lead/Gigaton balls where they drop like a clump of... well... lead. For close ups, it was always better to use Ultras or just the Heavy Balls.
25:51 I also found the graphics disappointing and almost made me leave the game because I felt ripped off by the company. The hexagonal trees, the shadows, the grass... rowlets eyes (in the close up when you get you starter you can see how polygonal they are). But the cherry on top was when I made the Chimeco side quest. When you find him and the old lady asks him to be her Pokémon you can see how it has a mirror texture, reflecting the landscape. It's a great detail, and it's so sad to know we could have had a beautiful game, but they just don't care.
I was never able to finish the Pokédex, I filled in all the question marks in the Pokédex but then there’s no way of me knowing what else I was missing.
To “complete” the Pokédex you needed to get the Ball symbol next to the name on the list so that the text description in the entry shows up on every single mon which requires roughly level 10 dex level. In most mon cases it’s normally as simple as using the certain move a couple times and catching/evolving between 5-10 mons each, but for harder to obtain mons like legendaries and certain evolutions, the path of least resistance (and/or only option) would be grinding out the move usage part of the requirement which can take a whole for some mons that only have like 1 of those entries as move tiers only provide 1 point towards the dex level IIRC whereas in most cases with the catch entries you get 2 points.
I honestly never had trouble acquiring materials for crafting Pokéballs. Quite the opposite actually, as those were some of the most frequent materials I was stowing away. Maybe it's just a matter of playstyle, because I was pretty much always collecting from every single rock and tree I passed
@@EmeralBookwise mmm not really. It's a fact you need to press a bunch of extra buttons that makes the process longer, and therefor more tedious by definition
@@DistantKingdom: hardly a bunch of other buttons. It's mostly just the same single button pressed every so often along an encounter route while looking for new mons to catch. It can practically be done on auto pilot. Most of all though, nothing is tedious when it's "fun", which is also subjective.
@@EmeralBookwise its not every so often.. its every single time. this is far more tedious than not having to press the button thousands of times when you dont need to elsewhere in the game if that's """fun""" to you then... cool? but to pretend it's not more tedious than the alternative is just not true
You hit basically all the points in this one. Though I will say I only really struggled with money super early on. Once you get your research/star level up you make way more money for catches, and catching alpha pokemon becomes easier the higher star level you are. Alphas always drop valuable exp items or other loot you can sell, and when you release them from the box they give grit items which can also be sold. Basically so long as you don't miss too many pokeballs you will always profit. Backstrikes and other modifiers also increase how much money you get (like catching 10 pokemon before turning in your research).
@@DistantKingdom I honestly don't think it ever tells you. Well it tells you the pokemon left something behind - but only after you actually release them. It gives the grit items, so grit dust for lower level ones, grit pebbles, gravel, and rocks for higher level ones. And for alphas it is usually the higher grits.
@DistantKingdom Yes, selling the grit items especially from mass released Pokémon gives you a lot of money. If you ever try a third run you should try it. The game doesn't tell you. I learned of it maybe midways through my playthrough as my boxes were getting full. It's a nice hidden secret.
I never once bought poke balls...why buy something you can craft? And it never took more than one spin around and area (for about 30 min to an hour) to have hundreds of pokemon & poke balls, while you're searching to complete the dex you can farm ore sites and trees multiple times. That just seems cherry picked honestly, I always had lots of money from the mid game onward and was not low onpokeballs for most of the experience.
Yo Distant idk if you remember but I dm'd u on twitter MANY months ago asking for this review and you said that it would come out before gen 9, tbh I didn't believe you lmao. BUT THE DAY HAS COME.
Legends I think is the best pokemon switch game so far from Gamefreak, which, I hope it'll become it's own series. I'd love a series of games exploring regions in the past. That's such a cool concept.
The inconsistency of the battle style thing does make it hard to predict the battle but at the same time it was this inconsistency that made it felt , I guess with a lack of better word, real. Yes it’s most likely not the best game design but it was immersive
I did think the character interactions and implications with the respective clans were pretty interesting even if they don't amount to much. I think back to that minor love story on the Cobalt Coastlands since I just thought it was nice. As much as I do love playing Arceus, it was something I experienced after Xenoblade 2, so it felt like a step back in many ways.
legends was, fantastic tbh. almost 60 hours in, pokedex finished, i can confidently say its def the first pokemon game in some years i wanted to return to after beating it in some time to shiny hunt and just play because its super fun. its, miles better than sword and shield and honestly i'd rank it as one of the best games. through some minor issues i had with the things like, lack of held items/abilities etc and some things you point out i really agree with. i really like its one of the few pokemon games that are challenging especially the arceus fight. i think this game was a risk worth taking and like games that came before or and after (botw, sonic frontiers etc.) i think it sets a good foundation for the future, hopefully lol. edit; after finishing the video, i pretty much agree with everything you had to say. regardless of flaws, i really hope they can take the potential here and improve what they have because theres something here that i think can make the legends series really good.
Another issue I found was that only pokemon who havent fainted receive EXP at the end of battles, rather than during the battles for every pokemon felled. So you can have a total champ, ace in the hole take down multiple pokemon and then faint before the end and receive no exp... as you mentioned battles are intense and you'll usually have some faint on your side... So it's really counter intuitive to levelling up. The safest way to level them up in battle is NOT using them... So annoying and feels like some tough ass performing members of my party didnt get the exp they deserved.
I loved the amount of interactivity with Pokémon in this game. Weird though, they didn't implement Pokemonamie, camping, and other past friendship boosting activities. They could really make the potential next Legends game have more Pokémon interaction.
Now that I played scarlet and Violet I must say. I really like how PLA felt. I had genuinely fun to catch all the pokemon and walk though the semi open world. Scarlet and Violet feel a bit dull without the funny catching mechanism, also the beginning is very tedious and hand holding. Graphicswise I would say PLA is my personal favorite. Love the cell shading. Hopefully we will get another legends series. Maybe in Johto?
The big interesting thing as a Japanese history nerd, is that this is essentially the backstory of the colonization of Sinnoh without it being in your face. Sinnoh is based on Hokkaido which was formerly Enzo before the Japanese colonized it multiple times over. The DP Clans themselves are descended from Outsiders that invaded the region an appropriated the custom of the original natives ( the Celestials) which is why they only seem to know the bare minimum about the Region's mythology. This is why Volo acts the way he does and seems to hold a grudge against Arceus and even in modern Sinnoh you can really see how much of its culture has been lost. What I love about this is that the game doesn't spell this out for you like most modern ones do, and you actually have to seek out this information by playing and exploring
What could've been cool is if when facing Volo once he calls on Giratina to aid him, if the battle took place in the Distortion World until you defeated Giratina in its Origin Form.
@@DistantKingdom yeah, im going to have to start browsing the comments first lol. I put over 400hrs in this game and im trying to 100% it (slowly) in preparation for pokemon SV. I love the catching mechanics and hope that they leak across to the main games. And also hope that the 'Legends' IP becomes its own branch of the franchise.
The wurmple you give the guy in Jubilife DOES evolve, but not for the majority of the game. Was literally waiting the whole game to see that side story play out.
I don’t remember money really being an issue until I was several 10’s into trying to expand my bag, but I suppose the fact that there isn’t some easier way to get money is a problem. The thing that bothered me was simply the lack of trainer fights. The few you get aren’t enough to allow for some real challenges in the game. I really enjoyed the clans’ way of battling, feeling like horde battles with actual decision making. I see no reason why there couldn’t have been other Corps members out on patrol who would’ve offered to have a friendly match. Sure, they imply that you’re the reason people come to stop fearing Pokemon, but it’s also clear that members of the corp are already attempting to befriend and train Pokemon before you get isekai’d into hisui.
In the alternate universe whereby The Pokémon Company Int'l would allow game companies other than GameFreak to make mainline Pokémon games & are not forced to rush the deadline, they would make the games more evolved and make the players feel like they're playing better games such as Zelda BOTW, Xenoblade Chronicles & Final Fantasy. Heck, I even dreamed of a Pokémon games of Fox Game Engine from MGS5! Too bad, we are not living in that kind of universe. Heck, the new designs of certain Pokémons (pointing at you, Dudunsparce) in Scarlet & Violet really reflect the current state of mainline Pokémon games.
This was the first game that I actually had Pokémon and my entire team nearly wiped out. I kid you not the last time I had a team wipe was in Gen 4 > Guess who by out favorite certain someone with that piano music. Gen 5 was fairly challenging but everything after that was a breeze 19:21 I didn’t know you could engage in Pokémon battle against the trial Pokémon. I’m pretty sure one of the NPCs mentioned it but for some reason it never occurred to me and I simply remember throwing the beans was the way to beat them so that’s what I did. But yeah honestly, it was a lot of fun and challenging doing it without Pokémon battles. Made the fight more intimate
The Wrumple in front of Galaxy HQ does, in fact, evolve; iirc you just need to do a side quest to trigger rhe progression. That aside, it's good to see a video from you! For all its little faults, PLA was the most entertaining pkmn game I've played since... gen 6, I'd say, so I'm happy with how it turned out and I'm looking forward to more, especially since I had very little hope for SV and the leaks seem to be proving me right.
For me, PL:A was like buying a Jelly-Filled Dessert, it looks delicious, I take a bite and it's tasty, really good, then I take another bite, and then another, waiting to feel that sweet inside, yet it never comes as it just ended up not having more than a miniscule amount, so small I couldn't even notice it, and even the outside that looked so delicious and had a good first bite started to become stale with every other munch, to the point I just couldn't keep going. PL:A had a lot of potential, it was a step to a good direction and had a good start, but with every minute I kept going, the experience just fell apart more and more.
Trying to finish this up before Gen 9 hits. I find myself trying to complete Dex entries for most of the Pokémon as long as they aren't too obnoxious. I feel like you're supposed to because there's not much else here. If there were an equivalent to BotW's shrines, I think exploration would feel more satisfying and work well in tandem to the capturing mechanics.
i just finished the game (aka fighting arceus) and MAN. the fight was awesome, i felt so satisfied with completing the pokedex. this game is everything i wanted, despite some issues, and now i'm excitedly attempting to shiny hunt some mons i want. You know that the Wurmple that you give to the guard does evolve right? He's so hyped about it evolving to Beautifly but it's a Cascoon. Also I hard disagree with the part about crafting and lack of money. It's not that hard or tedious to get enough materials and you can quickly reach a point where you have enough money and materials to never really run out of pokeballs.
@@DistantKingdom Yeah, it would've been much better to throw Pokemon while mounted, but it never really felt that annoying because you can mount and dismount really quickly. The game does have a lot of rough edges, but that wasn't one of them for me in +100 hours of gameplay.

Yeah, same, I never had a problem with money or balls, and I think I progressed quite fast through the game so I was surprised when he brought that up
@@DistantKingdom I guess you just were very inefficient at using money, probably because you have to actually admin your money unlike other pokemon titles.
The wurmple guy does do the evolution to show the passage of time thing, the only problem is that his Pokemon will only evolve if you talk to him in certain points
He even gives you a sidequest in the game for you to show him a silcoon, since he can't tell the difference between his cascoon and a silcoon, that sidequest is quite funny actually
Imagine trying to catch a shiny Alpha Garchomp while trying to not get exploded by the other Alpha Garchomps... XD It's incredibly painful. :p
Well, let's see if they learnt something from PLA and hopefully Scarlet and Violet will bring what was missing in previous games.
I'll say Nope.exe
Scarlet and Violet were developed mostly at the same time as Legends , they might've even started at the same time, there's almost no way they would be able to implement something just because people liked it in Arceus, fully including what worked might not be until gen 10
Haha... Hahaha... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Nope.
@@mithy7525 I agree.

Oooof!

@@zephyrorsomethinh1528 yea that's unfortunate. Super cool it actually does evolve tho
There's a nice touch for that Wurmple. If you give the guy a shiny or alpha Wurmple, it will preserve its state.
The music in Legends Arceus is awesome. I love that they remixed some of the old Gen 4 music.
3:28 You can hit the + button to view all your boxes and the game will color in the ones that have the Pokemon you're looking for
The thing with space time distortions is that they form every 10 minutes of active playtime, they stop forming properly if you teleport or sleep longer than 'just a little while'
Funny how a majority of the complaints are features related to resource-management...

The Wurmple you leave in the village actually _does_ evolve as time goes on, but I don't know what the trigger is. It might be sidequest completion?
I double-checked, it evolves when you complete Cascoon's Pokedex entry up to level 10 and have captured a Silcoon.
Some people are also saying you need to evolve two wurmples before it happens.
@@LordEpos interesting. well that's super cool it evolves! wish it was tied to progression instead of whatever the actual trigger is so it could trigger every time
Definitely the best pokemon games I've played in a decade. Hopefully they continue the legends series
imagine kalos, unova, hoenn, johto, aloha, and kanto getting the legends treatment 😭❤
It was Ok.
W and very interesting take btw
Shut up, Nintendrone. XD
Despite all the flaws with Legends Arceus, I feel like it got the ball rolling for more action oriented titles in the future like Scarlet and Violet.

Mostly agree with this video and I'm glad you also enjoy the game more than any other Switch Pokémon games
Just want to clarify: the Wurmple outside the HQ does evolve, you just have to chat to the NPC to do so
I feel most of these issues could have been fixed if the game had more time in development but overall it’s a very fun Pokémon game and your review is fair and honest about it

I thought that was kind of cute, it sells the point that Pokémon aren’t well understood, but the people are starting to accept them for what they are even if they don’t always turn out the way they expected.
huh. mine never evolved ;-;. how do you trigger it
@@DistantKingdom After some searching on Google, this is what I could find:
- Add both Cascoon and Silcoon's entries in the Pokedex by evolving both from Wurmples.
31:35 Silence is a powerful moment in games too, Im not even kidding, it worked wonders for Zelda.
If you click + you can see all pastures
3:36 although the lack of proper sorting is frankly horrendous, this point you make here is not correct. You can switch to a "box view" with Plus, if I remember correctly, and then only the "boxes" that contain the Pokémon you're searching for will be highlighted, so you do not need to scroll through every box to find them.
lol edited my comment since it was slightly inaccurate and lost my heart react from DK :'c
I found myself getting addicted to the gameplay loop, it's that back strike sound holy hell.
DistantKingdom is back baby!!!! you're finally i hope everything is well with you, but it's always good to see you upload new videos
Took nearly a year, but I'm so glad you finally uploaded it.
All I ever wanted was a real-time combat souslike Pokémon game. This was the closest thing we ever got, and it still disappoints.
Gamefreak scared they getting sued for promoting animal abuse to kids if you're beating on cute little Pokemon as a trainer lol
Honestly? I would love to see you making this a bigger series by analyzing older games as well!
Arceus is the most close we had to a pokémon 2 game
I love when you post distant kingdom we might always not share the same opinion but enjoy your content
Yea but the tedium to do so cant be avoided
@@DistantKingdom: "Tedium" is subjective. I never found it the least bit tedious, it was just part of my gameplay routine.
@@EmeralBookwise its not every so often.. its every single time. this is far more tedious than not having to press the button thousands of times when you dont need to elsewhere in the game

@@mihaimercenarul7467 I agree.
Backstrikes and other modifiers also increase how much money you get (like catching 10 pokemon before turning in your research).
had no clue releasing mons gave you stuff lol. did it ever tell you that? mustve missed it
@@DistantKingdom I honestly don't think it ever tells you. Well it tells you the pokemon left something behind - but only after you actually release them.
It gives the grit items, so grit dust for lower level ones, grit pebbles, gravel, and rocks for higher level ones. And for alphas it is usually the higher grits.
@@TheFriskySquid yea i guess thats the problem. i never release mons ever so i wouldve never known they give you stuff aha. thats unfortunate
Selling grit items from released Pokémon is how I made money too. 💰
@DistantKingdom Yes, selling the grit items especially from mass released Pokémon gives you a lot of money. If you ever try a third run you should try it. The game doesn't tell you. I learned of it maybe midways through my playthrough as my boxes were getting full. It's a nice hidden secret.
One of my issues with the pastures is that we can't see the pokemon's nature. We have to manually go to their summary and check it. Pretty tedious.
Better late than never 😏
3:36 You don't need to scroll just press the + Button and it will show which pasture has the pokemon you want it.
Legends I think is the best pokemon switch game so far from Gamefreak, which, I hope it'll become it's own series. I'd love a series of games exploring regions in the past. That's such a cool concept.
It was just Ok.
The inconsistency of the battle style thing does make it hard to predict the battle but at the same time it was this inconsistency that made it felt , I guess with a lack of better word, real. Yes it’s most likely not the best game design but it was immersive
I found it to be more frustrating than immersive
Searching is somewhat easier by viewing all boxes. The other boxes are greyed out
I loved the amount of interactivity with Pokémon in this game. Weird though, they didn't implement Pokemonamie, camping, and other past friendship boosting activities. They could really make the potential next Legends game have more Pokémon interaction.
Please make a video of the leaked pokedex for Scarlet and Violet😭
I dont want the Nintendo ninjas after me 😅
Now that I played scarlet and Violet I must say.
29:30 The wurmple you mention actually does evolve over time, but for whatever reason you need to talk to the guard in order to trigger it LOL
yea very unintuitive sadly. but cool that it does in fact evolve
@@DistantKingdom Ah yeah I was wondering if you meant to say that it did lol; pretty funny that you brought it up. I suppose it is pretty unintuitive.

Let’s go!! Been waiting for this!!
I wish you talked about the Pokemon and their personality and their additions to the lore. It's welcome.
The wrumple in front of the galaxy building does evolves, you need to talk to the guy time to time
I don’t remember money really being an issue until I was several 10’s into trying to expand my bag, but I suppose the fact that there isn’t some easier way to get money is a problem.
Can't wait for this guy's Gen 9 review. We already KNOW that GameFreak is gonna cut corners!
Gen 5 was fairly challenging but everything after that was a breeze
19:21 I didn’t know you could engage in Pokémon battle against the trial Pokémon.
PLA made me happy, and i hope they continue this formula.
but also, distant, i had a question about modding. aren't you ever worried mods will get your switch locked? or can they not detect mods?
Not worried no. As long as you don't go online with it you will be fine (and even then going online you will likely be fine as well lol)
@@DistantKingdom thanks for the reply!! im probably still not gonna risk it despite some qol changes some mods have, knowing my luck my shit'll get bricked 😭
I have been waiting for your Review.
Absolutely loved the review! Yes while the game has a lot of positives I feel as if there are a lot of things that could have been implemented better in order to have a better experience playing
You know that the Wurmple that you give to the guard does evolve right? He's so hyped about it evolving to Beautifly but it's a Cascoon.
Also I hard disagree with the part about crafting and lack of money. It's not that hard or tedious to get enough materials and you can quickly reach a point where you have enough money and materials to never really run out of pokeballs.
i mean the fact that you need to dismount to throw mons is tedious by default with no way around it
@@DistantKingdom Yeah, it would've been much better to throw Pokemon while mounted, but it never really felt that annoying because you can mount and dismount really quickly. The game does have a lot of rough edges, but that wasn't one of them for me in +100 hours of gameplay.
I agree with you, this video was very fun but flawed.
