      And also, you have said that we don't know if there are new APFSDS' developed for Altay (not specifically Altay, these can be used in all 120mm L/55, as MKEK L/55 is a licensed version of the CN08, but Leopard 2(TR1/TIYK)s and M60TMs can use these too), I digged some and found that there is Mod290 APFSDS, Mod300 HE-T, Mod292 Thermobaric, Mod310 HEAT-MP-T and Mod291 TPCSDS-T by MKEK.
      Mod290 APFSDS has 689mms of penetration at 1 kilometer to a RHA block (states NATO RHA 70°) angled at 70°.

    Correction on the APS: The smoke is not fired automatically, it has to be launched by the tank commander, and, the missile launch warning is only given once the missile is in flight, so it's detecting the projectile, not the launcher lock.

      Yeah, the "automatic" smoke dispensers are basically AI's reacting to an incoming missile and deploying smokes, it is not automatically deployed.

      The APS mod definitely does automatic firing of commander smokes by default as far as I'm aware but by default it's just AI who always pop smoke

    Small trick : The most explosive thing (when it comes to destroying buildings) are vehicles. Put a vehicle next to the building, make it go boom, and say bye to the building. Includes the one seen at the end I believe.

      Nah, the trick is to aim for the roof. I have no idea why, but buildings are indestructible unless you aim for the roof.

      @@F-18Super War Thunder is a totally different type of game. War Thunder is some kind of quick-dopamine-release-pvp-grind-game that just happens to use tanks for its combat. 99% of tank combat in war thunder is nothing like arma nor reality.

    You should try out the ACE mod for Arma 3, it has interesting advanced damage simulation for vehicles including ammo cook off. It also makes the Javelin and NLAW more true to real life adding the actual guidance systems and top attack modes for both. There's also an APS mod that just came out that has actual hard kill and soft kill systems modeled in it.

      Wait, by the time you wrote this, Arma 3's Javelin equivalent, the Titan already had a top attack mode. -Same goes for the PCML, the NLAW's succsessor.-
      Correction: the PCML uses an Overfly top-attack mode, which means the projectile detonates above the target, it doesn't descends on it.
      Or are you talking about mods like RHS?

    I heard a comment from tanker that they would tweak the brightness and contrast until it the vehicles were visible and pretty much nothing else so that way they could traverse the sight fast and scan quickly for things that stand out.

    Hey can you review the realism of tanks in il-2 Sturmovik: Clash at Prokhorovka? I know it's quite pricey, but I believe it's arguably the most realistic WW2 game on the market atm. Has modelled interiors, multi-crew (friends can be your driver, gunner, etc), realistic animations, ballistics, and more!

      I have Tank Crew since a while, I just wish the map was richer in things for real... infantry, mostly. Tank damage in it is quite good indeed, perhaps one of the best. War Thunder has a decent one as well but tanks blow up if they lose all crew lol. In Il-2, you can see all the big holes you've put into tanks, and by vehicle behaviour (or the lack thereof) you can determine whether it's disabled or not.

    An improvement to the armor experience is what I am hoping for the most. As an IRL tanker it's so sad that there's exactly one game that gets the tanker experience kind of right and that's GHPC. Even "realistic" games like War Thunder and especially Arma 3 get things wrong, and it starts with the basics of being inside a tank:
    You don't hear shit, you don't see shit unless you're looking outside using the hatch, everything shakes and you've got a team of 4 people in there trying to make the best out of it and most importantly, the sights you have, those are the ones you're stuck with. If they are damaged, that's one less eye. You can't zoom with every single optic either and you won't believe how fucked actual first and even some second generation thermals are.
    There's so many things you can't even be mad at a developer for not including but which are kind of important to the "experience", be it maintenance on weapons like changing barrels mid fire fight, all the safety precautions (to be fair some of them get quickly thrown out once combat starts anyway), the technical problems that can come up you'd have to work around, on that note the levels of redundancy present in MBTs etc. etc.
    And one big thing regarding the environments: DUST! Holy shit you wouldn't believe how easily and how much dust is kicked up just by a tank driving through a rubble filled city or country roads or whatever and don't get me started on the dust that's kicked up when firing the main gun in a dusty area. I could see this being a technical limitation as well as a gameplay one because whenever some games actually do have a lot of dust, players will usually get butthurt over it VERY quickly.
    The Tank DLC did help with some of these issues, like the interiors but they are basically just eye candy. WIth Reforger so far I think that the vehicle experience could very greatly be improved upon, the potential is there. The vehicles just really, really benefit of things like full interiors and proper damage models.

      All games has glitches. I think its not fair to judge this game because of one glitch which doesnt happen everytime. Overall its pretty good at giving a realizm feel at vehicles

      The tanks in war thunder can hover and even fly sometimes if you simply drive forward off a hill and are bestowed with the Holy Blessing of the Glitch. Gaijin only gives this great honor to those who would rather not fly suddenly.

    You should review the RHS mod tanks, they have a lot of cool real life tanks with realistic FCS controls for most of them. I'd say they are more detailed and functional than the base game ones.

      Yeah, he did oversee a small feature. The HEAT-T he used on it simply penetrated both metal walls, therefore didn't explode next to the warehouse and caused no damage whatsoever. It would've been a different story if he shot HE right next to the building

    2:54 I beg to differ here. Arma is set in 2035 so it's near futuristic gear and vehicles. In the present days you already have systems that can warn you about incoming ordinance such as a missile. For example APS systems or C-RAM. The A-10 if I am not wrong has a system that detects when missiles are being launched called MWS ( it's a set of UV sensors that can detect missile exahausts but doesn't discriminate between friend or foe ). So it's not too unrealistic to have an automatic smoke dispenser that activates once it detects a missile launch. So yeah, passive locks, such as IR, should not give any hint to the target but there are ways to detect a launch and some systems even have their on firing control radar to lock on the incoming missile and destroy it. The Isreali trophy APS is a good example.

    Also, one thing missing from actually every single game is that the barrel doesn't get stuck in objects around you. Which changes everything actually. You don't feel the effect of having such a long barrel

    Even with some elements not being realistic ArmA 3 is still the most realistic "tank" game on the market.
    Because it's not just a tank game.
    Most of the tanks games are pretty much tank vs tank, and capture the point or some shit which is not realistic at all.
    In ArmA there is a mission editor in which one can create a realistic mission with realistic objective, and there are tanks, infantry, planes, helicopters, jeeps, trucks, AFV's, UAV's...
    Controlling a single tank with 2 friends on discord, or 12 players controlling the platoon of tanks in a realistic scenario which involves all kids of units on friendly and enemy side is waaaaay better experience then WoT or Warthunder.

    4:00 i don´t know if this is true for all tanks. but for Leopard type tanks the drop of and lead is "solved" by changing the position of the radical in the sight. So its actually the gunner that leads, unkowing of doing so (well, of cause, if you have a computer lock, the computer will lead)

      Get them. Apex is the best content DLC and Contact is the best story DLC. They're worth it on sale (Bohemia's products are a tad overpriced without a sale on, but discounts are very common)

    One thing I've learned from arma, another vehicle is the the perfect anti vehicle weapon. If I take a hunter and crash it into a tank going 100 kmh 8/10 times that tank will be sent 50 feet into the air at mach 2

    I used to hate it when in Arma 3 a T-55 could destroy a Leopard 2 or any other tank basically but hey its just arma and mods I guess, spent so much time in this game and almost never used vehicles in editor which I usually used

      It can though. A T-55 can destroy a Leopard 2. It would have to get obscenely lucky, but it technically can. Hence why Romania hasn't replaced their TR-85s yet, it can still get the job done.

    3:12 No you can't detect incoming missiles but if you see it coming, which should happen if you are a good tanker as everything plays through observation. However the only thing you can do is pop smoke's as it will create a heat signature since it is made of phosphorus

    Hey man, really liked the video :D
    Just some quick points:
    -You generally have very limited indication on wether you hit a tank or not in rl aswell, unless the ammo ignites (besides a bright flash, and of course depending on the ammo used).
    -Agreed, the tank crew wouldn't be alerted if a heat seeking missile were to lock onto them. However Hardkill systems might still be able to destroy them if they actively scan for incomming objects
    -As for the thermal sights, you're both right and a tiny bit wrong... what we're seeing in the clip represents basically two different generations of thermal sights. The green one being the older generation. And I can tell you, that they often look far worse than in the game. xD

    The Arma 3 T-72 can Lollipop (Ammo lock, Turret pop off, 50 meter ceiling, etc…) but when you look at the bottom of the T-72 turret it’s flat. It’s disappointing. Not even RHS could change that. I Really want a turret with a modeled interior like the ammo at the bottom if the hull under the turret and the bottom of the turret being hollow with a modeled gun and seats and optics and such.

    Really have my fingers crossed we can get some more realistic tank ballistics with Arma Reforger, like War Thunder and GHPC. Was always annoyed at the HP system in Arma tanks, I guess it's the reason I never get the chance to use them in public servers, because nobody wants to use them.

    Actually as far as I am aware there are system that CAN detect all types of missiles approaching the vehicle, it is very limited range, but some aircraft and helicopters use, for example AN/AAR-56 ( on F-22 raptor)
    So it would be acceptable to think that in 2035 tanks could equip similar systems to detect incoming projectiles and looking at the range in arma 3 ( 3km or so) I personally believe that it is possible such a system could get developed in armaverse

    Maybe Combat Mission, especially Shock Force 2 and Black Sea could be interesting. Being tactics games balanced by a point system rather than FPSs they have a lot more freedom to model certain things that would otherwise be unfun. On the other hand the game is fairly abstracted with concepts like spotting being a little bit opaque leading to situations where it feels like every russian and syrian tanker goes to battle with a blindfold on. That could be very neat to evaluate!

      Combat Mission in my experience and based on community testing is a game where the mission designer decides which tank is better by varying the crew skills. The properties of the tank are secondary it seems.

    There are far more health pools in arma than the 6 shown in the ui to the player. Eg every periscope and optic has its own health and amor value.
    Also all buildings have to have a destruction model. On some buildings it's just very difficult to completly destroy them.
    The white barn you showed can be easily destroyed with a couple of hydra rockets though.
    I'm not trying to say arma 3 is perfect, but it's better than you have shown.
    And you forgot the worst part of arma... The hit registration and collision calculation in multiplayer with a couple of clients playing

    The biggest thing for realism over war thunder is infantry, and organization and tactics. This can depend on how and where you play ie realism server/group vs deathmatch vs ai.
    The worst thing has to be the wrong vehicles flying

    Have you tried the vehicles of the RHS mod, which have a way more advanced damage model compared to vanilla arma

      Because RHS comes with ERA, ammo racks, bullets/apfsds not being able to penetrate strong armor or 7.62 ap being able to take out the crew of a brdm. Likewise 50cal are find to take out BMD4s.

    I'm an older fan of Arma2 I really liked that game. Arma3 was okay but after a while I got bored of it. Overall not a bad game.

    I was able to slaughter a convoy of Abrams from a long distance in a default tank and I have mods that makes ground combat a bit more realistic. So I'll say yes, tanks are somewhat realistic if you know where to aim.

    Arma 3 is my favorite game of all time. But, the least realistic part of Arma 3 is vehicles and most specifically, armor vehicles. In real life tanks don't drive around like go carts. There are other reasons for my opinion, but I'll leave it at that.

    Short answer: No.
    Long answer, aka after hours of testing it myself by shooting target tanks at various places, I came to the conclusion: Hell nope.
    Tank to tank combat in Arma is ridiculously inconsistent. Rarely you can oneshot blow one, mostly you can two-shot them regardless of where you hit, and mostly you just die if you don't shoot exactly the gun out first, the fucking gun! Where is ammoracking, where is crewmen specifically penetrated inside getting rekt, where is the engine dying when hit, why doesn't detracking have a visual model, where is internal spalling simulation?
    Arma3 tank to tank combat consists of shooting the other tank's gun. That's the only weakspot that consistently exists.

      That makes sense if you hit spots that aren't important. Sabot is just, like a dart, it doesn't explode by itself, just goes clean through. Try using HEAT for APCs and MRAPs, HE for trucks, cars and infantry, APFSDS is for other MBTs.
      Though the tank to tank combat is still hella unrealistic indeed.

      @hunormagyar1843 I initially shot the engine then drivers hatch then the turret. He shot back so i did it again like that 7 times before he stops. The most unrealistic part is the three man bmp all of them survived. It is RHS mod and played against AI. So its somewhat understandable

    While an interesting video about a game many play, in the middle of a war I was hoping for videos about real tanks. You have a lot of knowledge that you can share about real tanks in a real war. You've made some videos, but I feel that there are lots of topics not covered. Every day brings new armoured vehicles to this war, so there's plenty of potential topics. For my part games are put aside until the war is over.

    1:47 That makes super annoying to play as an AT infrantry, and actually I think that the worst part of the game for me.
    I think that even the in old ACWA(OFP) I could tell how a tank was damaged just by looking to it, but here not.
    AT also have super tinny explosions in Arma 3, a grenade have a more powerfull one, I guess that if it prenetates maybe makes sense because it explodes inside the tank, but only if it does and that would be last one needed. It however does that always.
