60's= raw talent and stacked championship teams 70's= wide range of teams at the top every year (8 different champions in the decade) 80's= Magic/Bird nuff said 90's= aggressive tough defenses with great rivalries thanks to the physical defense 00's= the rise of player mobility, Big 3's start to form near the end of the decade 10's= skilled and analytical basketball begins to grow "the 3 point era" Finding joy in basketball is easy when you love the sport... these are my favorite things from each era. Trying to pick and choose which is better just because they played different styles or different paces is like choosing between desserts. All desserts are good whether you get cake or ice cream! Stop trying to nitpick the past legends and just appreciate where it got us to today. IT'S STILL BASKETBALL. (btw I'm 21 so I've only seen the late 00's and 10's eras so if you don't agree thats ok)
Juniu R i...don't think so...Have you seen the 2017 draft? 7 players ALONE have the potential to be top 3 players in the league, and like 20 total players that can be at least GOOD roleplayers. Even in the 2018 draft, we got guys like Jaren Jackson JR who looks like AD 2.0, Ayton, Bagley, Trae Young, Kevin Knox, MPJ who look like offensive monsters and Mo Bamba, Wendell Carter Jr, Mikal Bridges, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Lonnie Walker that look like they can be at least good defensive players, if not amazing two-way stars. If the Euroleague doesn't show us the next Michael Jordan, LeBron, Shaq, etc then your "dream" has a 0% chance of happening.
Juniu R I mean...you can't really go on and on, you named like more than half of them. BTW, KAT was born and grew up in New Jersey. He is considered as mixed, but people say he's Dominican because it's nicer to see good players that aren't American, even though his dad is american and he grew up in New Jersey. And i also think the players that i named and that will come in the upcoming drafts will easily overcome the international players.
Juniu R 1. Porzingis is not like KD, no one ever was or will be as KD, a combination of a SG's speed, a skinny, lengty SF body and a C height. 2. You clearly don't know Dr.J OR Giannis playstyle 3. KAT was, is and will be special either way 4. Ben Simmons is literally a modern version of Magic Johnson, nothing to do with LeBron. 5. Embiid isn't more versatile than Hakeem. Hakeem was literally a faster AD with better defense. 6. Wiggins isn't special. He is just an athletic player with all the tools he necesary to be great that has extremely low work ethic. You can look at his 1st season and at his 4th season and you won't be able to notice a difference. He hasn't improved at all. These are not "1nce" in a lifetime players since you've named like 6 of them. Once in a lifetime is someone like LeBron, a guy who we haven't seen ever before. For example: Porzingis - We've seen Dirk Gannis - I'll give you this one KAT - We've seen Hakeem....when he couldn't defend and just decided to play on the perimeter Ben Simmons - We've seen Magic Embiid - We've seen prime Hakeem Wiggins - We've seen tons of athletic players that couldn't stay in the NBA more than 5 seasons. I guess the Timberwolves either trust him WAY TOO MUCH or are just dumb. Not saying that Embiid, Ben Simmons, KAT, Giannis and Porzingod aren't special but they're not what you said they were. IMO they all have potential to be TOP 10 players, eventhough most of them already are at least top 20.
-The defense was awesome throughout the NBA in the 90s. -Defensive specialists were everywhere. -Post footwork was everywhere. -Rivalries were intense. -There was better crowd involvement. -NBA on NBC is still the MOST ICONIC sporting event in NBA; maybe even more iconic than Monday Night Football. -Many, many games in the regular season had PLAYOFF INTENSITY, unlike today (unless it was the Warriors vs Thunder in 2016-2018). -It was the most balance era of offense and defense, whereas the game today is heavily skewed towards offensive players. -Guards had both post moves and moves off the dribbles -Had the only two players who actully won DPOY and MVP in the same respective year: Jordan and Hakeem -Mind games were a plenty -The greatest rebounder the game has ever seen in Dennis Rodman (and still no one in this era is even close). Don't know how people can shame the 90s. Modern era is some of the most boring regular season basketball I have ever seen.
Sean Livingston Bro, you calling Rodman the best rebounder ever is... suspicious. Look at Wilt. He was a freak of nature and he would get any rebound he wanted. Better yet, look at Bill Russell, who was similarily great, but much smaller, so more "skilled" at it.
tteverywhere 97 yea people ahve elevated the 90s to a historic almost mythical status Anytime a player does well today somebody gotta say they wouldn't do well in the 90s like basketball just somehow got a lot worse in a decade.
Seann Savage No they don't. I have been on tens of comment sections with LeBron fans. They talk trash about MJ, they say he never faced a Warriors-type team in the Finals etc, but they never discredit the competition like that.
People always say MJ wouldnt be able to dominate in todays league due to athleticism being superior now... yet MJ still has the second highest vertical leap ever recorded in the NBA’s history
You got to be a fucking idiot if you think Jordan wouldnt dominate in this era i mean he could get to the rim as much as James because there are no legit centers or power forwards that are worth a damn to stop them.
They dont even take into account that if he was born in this era he too would have to become physically dominant like a giannis because of how traing has improved.
90's NBA basketball was sick..... I wished I lived during that era i bet it was great to be a kid watching Jordan, Olajuwon, and other stars during that time
It was awesome, especially since NBA on NBC would do games starting at 11am on Saturdays... as a kid I would wake up and watch saturday morning cartoons and then see awesome basketball games. One of my favorite childhood traditions.
Jalen Rose still says that those were the only two players he was on the court with, who he ever thought were the best players on BOTH ends of the floor! I'm 39. Basketball today is difficult for me to enjoy.
What sucks about the 90s was how so many players careers were cut short starting in the mid to late 80s into the 90s. Many had put up nice career resumes, but still cut at least 5 seasons short Larry Bird - back busted by 31 years old coming off his best statistical seasons-should have aged gracefully into the mid 90s. Magic Johnson - retired at 31 due to HIV + was becoming a better shooter-should have aged into mid/late 90s. Ralph Sampson - one of the GOAT college players-busted knees at 26. Should have aged into the mid 90s Dominique Wilkins - torn Achilles at 31-had nice seasons after but limited his athleticism Arvydas Sabonis - not allowed to come to the NBA til he was in his 30s in the mid 90s and had busted knees already-should have been one of the greatest C's ever Len Bias - next big thing dies of overdose after being drafted by the Celtics Benji- the next Magic Johnson murdered before getting to college. Should have been a star into the early 2ks. Penny Hardaway - injuries destroyed his superstardom at only 25/26 years old Grant Hill - busted ankle at 27 years old-lebron b4 lebron Tim Hardaway - busted knees at 27 and despite having nice career after, he was limited by the knees + injury prone Kevin Johnson - injury prone by late mid 20s-retired in early 30s due to injuries(legit superstar who continues to be one of the most underrated pg's ever as he's never mentioned as Barkleys duo against MJ/Pip-people act like it was just Barkley by himself. Mark Price - injury prone and done by about 30 y.o. Shawn Kemp - drugs, etc done by 29/30 y.o. Derrick Coleman- should have been a legit career average of 20/10 but injury prone/lazy by 27 Infamous Sam Bowie - known as the guy taken ahead of MJ, still had the potential for a couple of all star seasons Brad Daugherty - 5x all star career avg's of 19.5ppg/9.5rpg/3.7apg retired at 28y.o. Basically poor mans Duncan Drazen Petrovic - one of the deadliest shooters ever dead at 28 by car crash when he was finally getting a chance to shine as a 20+ppg scorer Larry Johnson - went from superstar to role player in the blink of an eye/limited by back problems-retired at 31 but basically done by late 20s Alonzo Mourning - superstardom killed by kidney condition at 30 y.o. - still ended up a great role player and still defensive anchor in limited minutes Probably many more im forgetting. Were talking tons of players who should dominate NBA Career Totals stats but were all robbed of a lot of good to great to HOF level basketball. The 2k/2010 era players will dominate NBA Career Totals because they just play much longer-lack of physicality in the game + medical/training/dieting/lifestyle-quality of life advancements
Probably part of the reason the game changed the way it did, though these guys today are still riddled with injuries, but are also lucky to have much better rehab for most injuries, plus way better shoes.
Chris Jackson/Adbdul-Rauf. Blackballed out of the league. Way ahead of his time. Terry Cummings. '83 ROY and monster for a decade and then at 30 was pretty much done but continued to be a role player until he retired in '00. Antonio McDyess. Amare before Amare. Knees-done as that level by 27
I've been watching NBA since the 90s and said this year that it's the best it's been for 20 years. Basketball got exciting again as we walked away from super teams to power duos and how talent is spread across the league. This is how it felt in the 90s. but even then regular season basketball now can sometimes be unwatchable. Fouls being called every possession, the game favoring the offensive player, etc. Now it's more about who can score the highest (with little to no focus on defense) instead of who can stop who. If you were alive to see that type of basketball, I'm telling you, man, that was some of the most exciting times to be a fan. I feel like all of today's stats are inflated. These young cats will never get that. But that being said I'm excited that basketball is back and looking forward to watching the playoffs this year. It's a good time as any to be a basketball fan come playoff time.
Facts everyone forgot that this is the most balance and competitive season since 2016 we don't know who's gonna win it all no more big 3's,the game continue to produce more international players it's gonna be weird without fans but it's ok
@@ec7057 I said this pre Corona. I feel like this season will have an asterisk because of everything going on. Hopefully it will be back to normal next year.
Alright coach, you GOTTA do a 96 Bulls vs. today's Warriors video. The ultimate matchup of 90's vs. modern basketball. Many consider the current Warriors to be the best team of all time. 7 game series, who wins?
Depends on which era's ruleset they play with. If they play with modern rules then warriors will win easiliy, if they play like in the 90's however the Bulls will destroy them.
I hate the warriors with a passion but you can argue they have the best players in each of the 5 starting positions out of all active nba players....easily the best team EVER assembled in the history of basketball.
It's interesting. The bulls would have to adjust to The Warriors 3pt efficiency across the team, a big change to the defence their used to. However, the Bulls would be more physical, new to the Warriors. But who's guarding MJ? Klay? KD? There's nobody to stop him. But KD could stop Pippen, Draymond wouldn't back down on Rodman etc. Nobody is stopping Cousins, and the Warriors bench has much more depth. All in all, in a series, Warriors in 6
Darkinferno your likely the type of Punk who always complains and is ready to throw Fist when somebody D's your ass Up an puts a Body on you riding you to the basket my advice if you dont like it dont play then vs somebody just standing there in front of you who does nothing
But I've always known that the 70s, 80s & 90s NBA game was better. Oh, you're talking to the young people who haven't watched it all. I guess young people think they know just from watching highlights. They don't play defensive highlights as often & defense was a big part. Every player used to play defense
If people from the past got to play in this era they would be amazing because they would have modern resources to help their game at their disposal. People forget that.
@@chadwilliams5551 No young man, they don't. Todays players all want to find a way to the foul line without having to take an actual shot. 90's players wanted to beat hall of famers every night. Players 1-12 could ball, today players 8-12 are "project" guys. Todays guys can't afford a bruise or it might hurt their social media following let alone getting dunked. Back in the day everyone got dunked on or crossed over because they were playing defense. In the 90's nobody came into the league and was the star, not even Jordan, today Trae Young can do whatever he wants. It's sad.
everybody want to highlight their favorite basketball era. But truth be told, what one era lacks, the other has, and viceversa. I think from the 80's and forward all eras are balanced one way or the other.
Conor B only reason kobe fans started chiming in is cuz lebron fans always gotta bring bron up for no reason. kobe has his respect when he retired then bron fans started trashing him.
@@jaheimraheim4115 ofc it is to ignorant basketball fans i bet u dont even know all the star players who played in the 90s off the top of yo head give me a break lmaoo another ignorant nba casual
“JoRDan pLayEd AgAInSt PLumBeRs” Y’all have to stop with that argument in favor of Lebron. Those very same plumbers could beat a lot of teams in the East that Lebron has coasted through lmao
Marlon Ndoro Dude lebron got torched by a plumber bogdanovic in the first round , locked up by a 38 year old Kidd and torched by a 33 year old terry in 2011 facts is even if guys aren’t athletic that a great player will always adjust , once a bucket always a bucket
Lebron lost to slow, unathletic white dude Dirk, and slow, older, unathletic Jason Kidd in a Finals series while he had a superteam. He also plows through Kyle Lowry and Demar Derozan and teams with no all stars every season to get to the Finals but Jordan's the one who played plumbers lol
@@CustomFitted Kidd and Dirk are not plumbers though. Don't discredit those guys to discredit LeBronze. They deserve better, the 2011 Mavs were a great team and Dirk's playoffs performances that year are some of the best I've ever seen.
I’m 40 and still playing basketball. Even on street and pickup game level you can feel the difference. When I play these younger kids today, the game feels more like dancing. Back in the 90’s - games felt like wrestling.
@@mjg6233 40 isnt old. LOL Its just mental and wear and tear if you play a lot of ball. Reason why NBA players get worse as they approach 40 is only because of wear and tear on the body. A 40 year old guy has almost the same amount of Testosterone as a guy in his early 20s, it doesnt become noticeable until 55+ and even then they are still at 75%.
LA Because if they were competition 2 teams wouldnt won 8 titles in one decade. Simple math. THERE WERE NO COMPETITION. Sports Illustrated had this on cover remember? "Are Michael Jordan's Bulls bad for the NBA?" because they totally ruined competition
The weakest era of basketball is the LeBron era wait until 10 years from now when we look back at the competition that he had to go through. It's nowhere near as daunting as the 90s or even the 80s.
It's the Lebron fans who weren't alive in the 90's. Also, the NBA has become so soft. It's all fluffy pillows now. Westbrook could have played in the 90's. Lebron possibly could have if he could tolerate the tough defense.
Only people that say that are millennials or Generation z retards who never saw him play. I'm not a millennial and I'm not a Generation Z. I've seen the 90s basketball starting in 1992 and I've seen this current era of basketball and this current era is trash.
@@thewiedzmin6062 I'm not a bulls fan I'm not a Jordan fan but Jordan deserves all the accolades. He won all his championships he was a complete basketball player on the offensive side of the game and on the defensive side of the game. As much as I grew up not being a jordan fan. You got to give the man credit he did everything he was a complete basketball player on the fucking Court and y'all Millennials and Generation Z need to give them that credit and stop trying to say he's overrated. I would tell you that Kobe Bryant is more overrated than Michael Jordan is.
Lmao acting like this video changes anything, it's just him repeating the fact that the 90's were a big deal. Average players from today would be all-nba players in the 90s because people have gotten generally more athletic and way more skilled jesus it's not that hard of a concept to understand
I Feel Like Yeezus The Phoneix suns and Trail blazers and Seattle Supersonics were like the warriors. The suns had 4 allstars. The rest had 3 and a very strong bench with hall of fame players. Jordan just made the best look normal.
@@mostmost1 You are reaching. The Suns did not have 4 All-Stars, they had Barkley and Kevin Johnson. Of course guys like Ainge and Ceballos were All-Stars at some point of their career but the Warriors have 4 All-Stars during the same year.
Simon dont forget Tom Chambers and Dan Marjle was an allstar that year. 62-20 record and Barkley was the mvp. My point was that team was like golden state. They were not golden state. They were full of talent from top to bottom. Bulls won in 6.

Jordan>LeBron>Kobe Reason? Beyond the typical stats and analysis that you see, which generally support this (PER, Win Shares etc), let's talk about Finals performance. You know, the "clutch" time. When legacies are made. Jordan has had no bad Finals in his career. None. His worst statswise was 1996, the 72-10 team. He averaged 27 points on 41% shooting. This was against an all-time defender in Payton. What about the rest of his Finals? Over 40 ppg vs the Suns. Game-winners vs LA. The amazing games vs Utah (Flu Game, Game 6 in 1998 etc). He ALWAYS performed. Let's turn to LeBron. He has had 2 bad Finals series in his career. The worst was 2011, when he had 17.8 ppg on 48% shooting and was notably absent in the crucial games 4 and 5. The other was 2007, which was when he was the only scoring option against an amazing team. What about the rest? 28.6 ppg and dominated KD in 2012, 25 10 and 7 vs the Spurs in 2013 (37 points in Game 7), 28.2 points on 58% in 2014. And then vs GS. The best opponent out of all these players'. He was great in every single series. 36, 30, 34, 34 were his ppg averages. All but one had over 50% shooting. He shot well from 3 in all but the first. He averaged at least 7 assists per game and 8.5 rebouds per game in all. And what about his individual games? 4 39+ games in 2015, two 41-point games in 2016, one in 2017 (along with 39 in Game 3), and 51 in 2017. He might have lost 6 of them, but it was almost always not his fault. He ALMOST ALWAYS performed. And last, Kobe. Unlike LeBron and Jordan in 91, Kobe has always had the best team in the Finals. His worst Finals, by far, was 2004. He had just one good game then. In Game 3, he had 11 points. 20 points on 32% FG% in Game 4. 24 points on 33% FG% in Game 5. He lost the series by himself, choosing not to feed Shaq the ball, who was literally unstoppable (27 ppg on 62% shooting). His first Finals series was even worse than LeBron's 2007 one. He had 16 ppg on 36% shooting, taking away some shots from the incredible Shaq, who had 38 ppg on 61% shooting. The trend would continue in 2001, to a lesser degree. He had 25 ppg on 41% shooting. Good, but remember he was severely outplayed by AI, who had no help (36 ppg on similar efficiency). 2002 was a lone bright spot in the Finals for Kobe. 27 ppg on 51%, albeit against a weak Nets team. 2009 was also solid against a Magic team that was in excellent shape. But when his team needed him the most vs the Celtics, what did he do? His base stats in 2008 are underwhelming. 40% shooting, 6 of 19 in the pivotal Game 4 when the Celtics were making the comeback. Some might say he avenged that in 2010, but they are completely wrong, as he still shot 40% and below 32% from 3. In Game 7, his AWFUL 6 of 24 from the field almost cost him the title. In the end, this is what sets apart the players. Jordan has never misstepped in the Finals for more than 2 games in a series. LeBron has done so once, and failed to deliver in 2007. Kobe has done so in 2001 and 2004, and was unconvincing in 2008 and 2010, the type of performance which would get LeBron a mountain of hate if he did that today.
YES!!!!! Oh my god that shit kills me bro. They call the 90's weak and the only reasoning they have is that it was an expansion era, and yet the decade has the most 50+ win teams of any other meanwhile lebron played in a league where half the playoff spots in his conference were filled by teams with losing records for 10+ years! What a fucking joke.
I'm 6'2 Facts he got torched by a plumber Bojan bogdanovic in the first round too bron sexuals the most retarded fan base lmao dude got out played by a 33 year old bench player and locked up by a 38 year old Jason Kidd in the nba finals but then try to discredit all the legends of the 90s that would destroy this soft ass pussified era lmaooo
batthew mrack That was back in the 80s with a lot of dynasty’s so wins were tough to get back then atleast he didn’t miss playoffs for two years tho like somebody lmfao better to make it and get swept by a superior team then not be good enough to even make the cut to play bigger comp lmao
A good example of people from older eras being good in modern eras is George Foreman. He lost to Ali, retired, came back 20 years later and won the championship belt.
LOL you're allowed to make mistakes now and then! I'm sure a few Knicks fans would rather have Michael "The Animal" Smith get that rebound in Game 3 of the 92-93 playoffs than Charles Smith.
@@mydogsnameislucy768 Learn to read between the lines. It was just a hyperbole i used to show that championships are a team acheivement. Of course, Steph curry is way better than him and is not a role player like Horry. But he's never been the finals MVP, so there's something for you to wonder about the fact that he's not been the best player in a final series and/or the amount of help he's had. I hate to undermine a guy like curry, but gotta do it to humble blind fans like you.
Half of these names were primarily 2000s. You got Dirk and Paul Pierce on there and they were drafted in 98. If you want to go by draft year, that's fine... but why's Michael Jordan on there? He was drafted in 1984 If you want to go by their prominent years, Why's Dirk and Paul Pierce on there? They were prominent in the 2000s. Dirk had his best year in 2011. Steve Nash and Jason Kidd were both late bloomers that had their success in the 2000s as well. Magic Johnson... only played 2 years in the 90s because of his illness. The 90s got 1 decent year out of him, and 1 final lap in 96. Larry Bird retired in 92 and was laying down on his belly instead of going to the bench because of his back problems... hardly prime... and also only 2 years in the 90s. You can't have it both ways. You've basically combined 20 years of talent into "the 90s". My personal feeling is that it should be based on the best years of each respective player, therefore, there's AT LEAST 10 players on this list that should be taken off. From Larry Bird (drafted in 1979) to Dirk Nowitzki and Paul Pierce (1998) you've got nearly 20 years... but if you only look at the 90s decade on it's own, it just looks too pitiful, don't it? Make no mistake about it. The 90s were a fairly weak decade talent-wise.
Half?? Are u dumb?? Can u count?? Lmaooo.. i partially agree with u but if that is ur logic then 20s was the weakest era becuz according to u lebron james, kevin durant, wade, etc are not from 20s cuz they partially played in that era lol.. dumbshit
ok then going by your logic, most of this decade's best players should be considered part of the 2000s and not 2010s. You could do that for basically any decade, btw.
He didnt even mention Mitch Richmond, Dr J, Moses Malone and Isaiah Thomas. Your nuts to call the 90s weak against any era of Basketball. Especially these cream puffs today.
RaiXVortex It’s only the BrondickGarglers but there so many of them they jus wanna take Mj domininance and winning away cuz there favorite player loses at a very high percentage on the biggest stage they jus big mad because goldenstate came along and now lebron won’t sniff another ring
Man the clips and the throwback 90s bangers in this vid got me so nostalgic! Take me back to the 90s man, such a great decade! No smartphones, just time with family and friends, great music, basketball and some great old school video games! What a time to be alive...😍
That’s actually a really good point. I’m thinking Carl Malone or Charles Barkley type of career even if LBJ had his Miami heat team. But Kobe and Shaq would snag 1-2 rings even from Jordan
90's was a great decade of basketball, it was definitely not weak. However, there are way more talented players in this era and the offensive schemes, pace of game and net ratings are way higher than the 90's.
If you watch 90s games, they would let some absolute dumpster fire players try isos and it was quite hilarious. The anti-zone rules made teams have to guard pure defensive specialists straight up where in the modern era trying to play with those kind of guys just results in a player being able to roam. I do LOL when someone says steph couldn't survive in those days because abdul-rauf did what steph does and he did just fine. Steph is much more efficient, of course, but you could absolutely be that kind of player.
I mean the 90s are fun if you like to watch dudes pound the rock for 10 seconds of the clock and heave up bricks. The modern NBA has a healthier inside game because the floor spacing is much, much better.
You actually have to define what you mean by more talented. “Higher offensive schemes” doesn’t mean anything. In the 90s, continuation fouls were not lenient and illegal screens and offensive fouls were not tolerated so it’s beyond obvious that teams now are not going to the play the same way and get the same results if you put them in the 90s.
You didn’t even explain HOW it was better. You just summarized it. If you just summarized the highlights of any decade in basketball then it would seem a lot better. Very disappointing.
BBALLBREAKDOWN lmao he's right. You're just doing a summary of the history of the 90s. Killed me when you brought up how many hall of famers there were. People say the 90s are trash skill-wise compared to NOW. Nobody is denying the 90s had MANY great players for the era or iconic moments, they're simply using the very basic and very visually obvious concept that athletes naturally get way more athletic AND skilled throughout the years. You basically just argued that the 90s were iconic and competitive, but the counterargument has nothing against that, it's simply saying the players from this era are just BETTER at bball than players in the 90s. Not every single player and not more legendary, but just better at the sport. This was originally brought up by a twitter personality to support LBJ's GOAT case, but at this point it's seriously hard to see why people can't just admit that players are better now. Not even tougher or having a better mentality, but just better
I don't hate the 90's NBA, what I do hate is when people disrespect today's players while glorifying the 90's. The greatest NBA stars like LeBron & Steph can play in any era. Jordan can play in today's era as well. The difference are the 2nd/3rd tier role players that can't shoot. The biggest difference lies with guys like Dale Davis, Antonio Davis, Elden Campbell, Chucky Brown, Calbert Chaeney, Bimbo Coles, etc. THOSE GUYS HAVE NO CHANCE IN TODAY'S GAME. Players evolve. Role players today have a BETTER CHANCE to succeed in previous eras because THEY CAN SHOOT. I'm not hating on 90's players, I'm just stating facts. I can also argue guys like Reggie Miller and Glen Rice would be FAR better players today than they were in their eras. But the fact is, is that the 8th/9th/10th/11th roster spots on today's teams are so much more talented than any previous decade.
@Cold Snap That logic is flawed because handchecking was allowed during the 80's as well... yet scoring was at an all time high during that era... Better skill=Better pace 😏 Like I mentioned in my post, the 90's talent pool were diluted with unskilled role players... hence why physicality shot up to compensate for the lack of skill... the top tier players like MJ, Barkley, Malone, etc. will always be great regardless of era/handcheck/zone, but their supporting casts would stand no chance against today's talent pool.
Sad as it is to say, no 90's team (other than '96 Bulls) would stand a chance against today's teams. Even if we're playing by 90's rules, Durant/LeBron/Westbrook would all get to play 1-on-1 basketball due to the lack of a free zone. Basketball evolves, it doesn't take a step back. Realistically, only the the great teams of the 80's like the Lakers/Celtics/Pistons/76ers among other teams that era that went 8-10 deep can compete. I'd say '86 Celtics, '85 Lakers, '89 Pistons, '83 76ers can all give the Warriors a run for their money.
I think you missed the point. People say it’s overrated because the game has involved and todays basketball players are more skilled and athletic (in average ) and as you said basketball tactics are a lot better nowadays. I don’t think that by showing players that were good for their time, like John Stockton you proved a point. Jerry West was also great in his era but you aren’t gonna say he was as good as today’s star players.
A A Meh Jerry West and Pete Maravich were known for making 30 footers like some players of today. If Jerry West played today I'm sure he would adjust and dominate.
Nikola GOATic first of all neither of them ever shot from that kind of range. Second of all Jerry west couldn’t even dribble with his left hand, I’m not kidding you, watch footage of him play whenever he goes left he dribbles with his right hand, that alone means he would get stripped every time if he played today. And that’s without even talking about the athleticism difference .
Johnny Seahorse you couldn’t put your hand under the ball or on the side of the ball and palm it .but you could definitely switch hands. Jerry West even wrote in his own book that he didn’t dribble with his left hand simply because he wasn’t very good at it.
I hardly doubt the video will "trigger" LeBron fans, as some commenters have alleged, since most LeBron fans do not try to discredit Jordan's competition (more than it truly was, which is in the Finals significantly worse than LeBron's, and before than slightly better) , but rather point out the importance of his teammates.
Andy Mejia And why I also said in another comment that most of the NBA community loves the 90's. Coach Nick was wrong when he believed that people laugh at players who played then.
MJ played against ice cream truck drivers pilots politicians contractors lawyers cross walker directors high school teachers bus drivers and engineers in the 90s
@10:37 Stop trying to make excuses. The Raps beat them fair and square, twice if I'm not mistaken. If Jordan thought it was the Bulls fault, he wouldn't have hired Raps coach Darryl Walker to coach the Wizards years later!
90s weren’t bad it is just that basketball has gotten infinitely better. Oldheads need to watch some film of a 90s game and compare it to now. I’m guessing they will say “low post game is better than actual speed and skill” or something like that.
T-Maori HD The goat conversation sailed when he got locked up by a 38 year Jason Kidd and torched by a 33 year old terry in 2011 and couldn’t beat a guy with no other allstars who had the same athletism basically as bird but y’all wannna trash those legends and call Mj era trash when lebron couldn’t even beat a one man team with no other allstar but had prime wade and bosh that year lmfao that’s sad
Unlike in track, people don’t seem to understand players will get better over time. Iverson’s signature crossover for an example is now almost standard for elite guards. Players get better over time as the newer players raise the ceiling higher. The league wasn’t trash; it might have been more physical but that’s not the same thing as better anyway.
nur ibrahim Mj and Olajuwon alone with three other All-Stars best this era’s top 5. Small ball only works if the other team doesn’t have a big to take advantage of it
This video proves that the 90s is just not the best decade for basketball but for music as well. Wait, the 90s decade is the best decade for everything!
The 1990's was overrated. They had more name stars but the NBA wasn't better. Weak teams with good records because they faced expansion teams. Despite all the hype about the best Centers were in the 1990's with 27 & 29 teams you didn't even have 10 real good centers in the NBA every year. So how good really was the Center position. 5 to 6 good centers playing 20+ teams with bum centers
Not only the 90's weren't a weak decade for the NBA, IMO it's the second best NBA decade after the 80's. The league was LOADED with superstars and almost every team had at least one of them.
I started to watched NBA in 2002. I grew up with tmac, iverson, pierce, garnett, lebron, wade, melo etc..but honestly i had more fun watching 90's games on youtube than todays nba.
MJ playing in his prime would dominate every. single. aspect of that game they play today but only if he was born in his original time and not a player of this generation, I suspect

60's= raw talent and stacked championship teams
70's= wide range of teams at the top every year (8 different champions in the decade)
80's= Magic/Bird nuff said
90's= aggressive tough defenses with great rivalries thanks to the physical defense
00's= the rise of player mobility, Big 3's start to form near the end of the decade
10's= skilled and analytical basketball begins to grow "the 3 point era"
Finding joy in basketball is easy when you love the sport... these are my favorite things from each era.
2020's? Any idea of what they'll be like?
How about adding extremely gifted wingman (forwards) and centers with very versatile skillsets for the 2010s?
Juniu R
1. Porzingis is not like KD, no one ever was or will be as KD, a combination of a SG's speed, a skinny, lengty SF body and a C height.
2. You clearly don't know Dr.J OR Giannis playstyle
3. KAT was, is and will be special either way
For example:
Porzingis - We've seen Dirk
Gannis - I'll give you this one
KAT - We've seen Hakeem....when he couldn't defend and just decided to play on the perimeter
Ben Simmons - We've seen Magic
Embiid - We've seen prime Hakeem
Wiggins - We've seen tons of athletic players that couldn't stay in the NBA more than 5 seasons.
Damn coach you did not hold back with the throwback songs did you
-The defense was awesome throughout the NBA in the 90s.
-Guards had both post moves and moves off the dribbles
-Had the only two players who actully won DPOY and MVP in the same respective year: Jordan and Hakeem
-Mind games were a plenty
-The greatest rebounder the game has ever seen in Dennis Rodman (and still no one in this era is even close).
Don't know how people can shame the 90s. Modern era is some of the most boring regular season basketball I have ever seen.

GOAT OF SPORTS
What sucks about the 90s was how so many players careers were cut short starting in the mid to late 80s into the 90s. Many had put up nice career resumes, but still cut at least 5 seasons short
Larry Bird - back busted by 31 years old coming off his best statistical seasons-should have aged gracefully into the mid 90s.
Magic Johnson - retired at 31 due to HIV + was becoming a better shooter-should have aged into mid/late 90s.
Ralph Sampson - one of the GOAT college players-busted knees at 26. Should have aged into the mid 90s
Dominique Wilkins - torn Achilles at 31-had nice seasons after but limited his athleticism
Arvydas Sabonis - not allowed to come to the NBA til he was in his 30s in the mid 90s and had busted knees already-should have been one of the greatest C's ever
Len Bias - next big thing dies of overdose after being drafted by the Celtics
Benji- the next Magic Johnson murdered before getting to college. Should have been a star into the early 2ks.
Penny Hardaway - injuries destroyed his superstardom at only 25/26 years old
Grant Hill - busted ankle at 27 years old-lebron b4 lebron
Tim Hardaway - busted knees at 27 and despite having nice career after, he was limited by the knees + injury prone
Kevin Johnson - injury prone by late mid 20s-retired in early 30s due to injuries(legit superstar who continues to be one of the most underrated pg's ever as he's never mentioned as Barkleys duo against MJ/Pip-people act like it was just Barkley by himself.
Mark Price - injury prone and done by about 30 y.o.
Shawn Kemp - drugs,etc done by 29/30 y.o.
Derrick Coleman- should have been a legit career average of 20/10 but injury prone/lazy by 27
Infamous Sam Bowie - known as the guy taken ahead of MJ, still had the potential for a couple of all star seasons
Brad Daugherty - 5x all star career avg's of 19.5ppg/9.5rpg/3.7apg retired at 28y.o. Basically poor mans Duncan
Drazen Petrovic - one of the deadliest shooters ever dead at 28 by car crash when he was finally getting a chance to shine as a 20+ppg scorer
Larry Johnson - went from superstar to role player in the blink of an eye/limited by back problems-retired at 31 but basically done by late 20s
Alonzo Mourning - superstardom killed by kidney condition at 30 y.o. - still ended up a great role player and still defensive anchor in limited minutes
Probably many more im forgetting.
Great comment
Probably part of the reason the game changed the way it did, though these guys today are still riddled with injuries, but are also lucky to have much better rehab for most injuries, plus way better shoes.
You can add Sprewell to the list. 4 time All-star but got his attitude get the best of him. He also did not come back playing after the '99 lockout
Chris Jackson/Adbdul-Rauf. Blackballed out of the league. Way ahead of his time.
Terry Cummings. '83 ROY and monster for a decade and then at 30 was pretty much done but continued to be a role player until he retired in '00.
Antonio McDyess. Amare before Amare. Knees-done as that level by 27
McDyess is very underrated, along with so many others we can dig out of obscurity that the millennials don't even know about.

Alright coach, you GOTTA do a 96 Bulls vs. today's Warriors video.
The ultimate matchup of 90's vs. modern basketball. Many consider the current Warriors to be the best team of all time.
7 game series, who wins?
Bulls sweep them
Depends on which era's ruleset they play with. If they play with modern rules then warriors will win easiliy, if they play like in the 90's however the Bulls will destroy them.
Warriors in 5
I hate the warriors with a passion but you can argue they have the best players in each of the 5 starting positions out of all active nba players....easily the best team EVER assembled in the history of basketball.
All in all, in a series, Warriors in 6
But I thought Jordan played against garbage collectors
He still did tho
That was Bill Russell
Logan LeCleir
Nobody ever said that, man. The straw man argument is not welcome here.
No but he didnt face a team like the Warriors with 5 allstars. When he did face great teams like Pistons or Celtics he would lose
He never defeated a single dynasty outside of an old Lakers team that faced a rebuild the next season.

1990s Bulls faced the statistically best competition of any dynasty.
Jordan’s bulls beat 7 teams with 60+ wins in their 6 titles. Kobe (as a starter) Duncan and Lebron combined beat 6 teams with 60+ wins in their careers.
Coach Nick! What are your thoughts on the movie 6th Man with the Wayans Bros and Kadeem Hardison?
Jordan>LeBron>Kobe
Reason?
Kobe has done so in 2001 and 2004, and was unconvincing in 2008 and 2010, the type of performance which would get LeBron a mountain of hate if he did that today.
thx for the facts
Finals you say? Bill Russel goat confirmed!
Infact, as a Kobe fan, my all time top 3 is:
1-MJ
2-Bron
3-Kobe
I kinda agree but its very well documented that jordan's clutchness over LBJ is overrated AF!

Lebron has been playing in the sorry ahh east for how long now?
But it’s bronsexuals that’ll pipe up calling another era weak 🤦🏿♂️
I'm 6'2
Facts he got torched by a plumber Bojan bogdanovic in the first round too bron sexuals the most retarded fan base lmao dude got out played by a 33 year old bench player and locked up by a 38 year old Jason Kidd in the nba finals but then try to discredit all the legends of the 90s that would destroy this soft ass pussified era lmaooo

That was back in the 80s with a lot of dynasty’s so wins were tough to get back then atleast he didn’t miss playoffs for two years tho like somebody lmfao better to make it and get swept by a superior team then not be good enough to even make the cut to play bigger comp lmao
lebron is top 5 all time. he'd dominate here too. only players I got above The King are MJ, Hakeem, Shaq, Magic (toss-up)

Hakeeem and Shaq not better on the alltime list then Russell and wilt
A good example of people from older eras being good in modern eras is George Foreman. He lost to Ali, retired, came back 20 years later and won the championship belt.

If you walk outside right now the first person you run into will have as many Finals MVP's as Steph Curry.
That's crazy.
How many championships will they have?

@@mydogsnameislucy768 Learn to read between the lines. It was just a hyperbole i used to show that championships are a team acheivement. Of course, Steph curry is way better than him and is not a role player like Horry. But he's never been the finals MVP, so there's something for you to wonder about the fact that he's not been the best player in a final series and/or the amount of help he's had. I hate to undermine a guy like curry, but gotta do it to humble blind fans like you.
LeBron fanboys are going to react to this!

The best decade of bball. Never heard anyone call it weak
OH HELL NO PUT RESPECT ON MY MAN AIRBUD COACH
Half of these names were primarily 2000s. You got Dirk and Paul Pierce on there and they were drafted in 98.
If you want to go by draft year, that's fine... but why's Michael Jordan on there? He was drafted in 1984
If you want to go by their prominent years, Why's Dirk and Paul Pierce on there?
You are right about adding players to the '90s that don't belong to the decade
Wrong.
Crazy how nba casuals wanna slander the 90s. This generation is sad

Le3-6 wouldn’t survive in the 90s era he’d have 0 rings
Leflop can’t even get more than 20ppg as the centers will block him right away
That’s actually a really good point. I’m thinking Carl Malone or Charles Barkley type of career even if LBJ had his Miami heat team. But Kobe and Shaq would snag 1-2 rings even from Jordan
Exactly fuck lebum James
90's was a great decade of basketball, it was definitely not weak. However, there are way more talented players in this era and the offensive schemes, pace of game and net ratings are way higher than the 90's.
Thinking Crypto Defense in the 90's was less skilled compared to today, but that means that offense in the 90's is more skilled too.
Only if you like 3-pointers. The 90s were better in pretty much every way.
Only reason it seemed trash is because of Jordan’s dominance, that’s why he the GOAT.

You didn’t even explain HOW it was better. You just summarized it. If you just summarized the highlights of any decade in basketball then it would seem a lot better. Very disappointing.
That’s not correct. Watch it again?
A handcheck is going to stop 2 of the greatest scorers ever...lol keep reaching.
Wilt scored 100 points in the days of the handcheck…bad logic. 2 of the greatest scorers ever can score in any era, get over it.
IbTusPeter “better skill=fast pace”..... you do know the 60’s had the fastest pace in league history right ? LOL.
A A dribbling rules were different back then ya idjiot. They had to dribble that way
Johnny Seahorse you couldn’t put your hand under the ball or on the side of the ball and palm it .but you could definitely switch hands. Jerry West even wrote in his own book that he didn’t dribble with his left hand simply because he wasn’t very good at it.
A A he didnt have to because of the time he played in. Youre nuts if you dont think a modern Jerry West wouldnt kill it in the nba.
The transition from the players hairlines to hims was perfect. I almost forgot to fast forward lol you getting better every time

Imagine lebron playing in an era without zone defense. Goodluck
Against monter centers..goodluck with him..he cant even beat howard in 2009 and baby shaq of greece in olympics...goodluck to him
I started to watched NBA in 2002. I grew up with tmac, iverson, pierce, garnett, lebron, wade, melo etc..but honestly i had more fun watching 90's games on youtube than todays nba.
