      Its kinda crazy that in the 70's a prog tune could easily be a chart hit and now we have adds on your channel offering programs of how to jigsaw together/drag and drop "beats/chord progressions" (without even knowing how to play an instrument )the same simplistic pop crap that been heard a million times before

      J, K, L work the same as the arrows. Another layer is that , and . go forwards or backwards a single frame. I don't know any more shortcuts

      The album was recorded live in studio so you can hear some bleed from the other instruments coming in from the drum mics especially. Tom wasn't happy with one of the solos so in one of the songs you can hear the "original" solo faintly in the background. I don't remember which song from the top of my head. :(

      @@thlom Ohg soo cool. I love these "raw" sounds and tone. Most of the productions now are way overproduced, and sounds to "clean", to "fake". I love a good recording of course, but with the texture of the original instruments.

    I've watched all of these videos and I have come to the conclusion that I have to do this with my friends. It is totally a great exercise to understand not only your own music style, but getting used to breaking down and understanding music on a deeper level. Plus, a great way to share amazing songs.

    When the 1st Rage album came out I locked myself in my bedroom and didn't come out till I could play it front to back. A band I was in back in the mid 90s we did the whole 1st album for a set one night at a local Philly bar except we did Killing in the Name after Freedom. When that d rings out at the end we would flow directly into Killing

    RATM one of the all time best bands IMO. Old enough to have listened to them from the beginning and one of the very few bands who can still be listened to and enjoyed just as much decades on up there with Tool and the late great Bob Marley.

    Eye rolling at all the people not believing or even refusing to watch this video because he hasn't heard this song before. Not everyone has heard of every song. This series started with Drumeo and you have people who have never even heard some mainstream pop songs that play on malls or the radio. I don't get all offended when the drummer has never heard of Toxic by Britney Spears, I just enjoy the video and enjoy an artist showcasing their talent.

    Yeah, it was Maynerd that did the guest vocals on this track, but originally it was supposed to be Perry from Janes Addiction do it, but he couldn't make it to the studio that day, and Tool just happened to be down the hall recording, so they asked Maynerd to step in and do it.

    @14:20 It's neither the Guvnor nor Rat distortion. Tim uses his own custom unlabelled distortion stomp box. He did a rig rundown with Premier Guitar some years ago

      It definitely WAS the Guv'nor on their s/t debut. He started using his own distortion (former Wah-Wah, according to him at least) pedal when he swapped out his whole rig and started using Ampegs between 1994 and the Evil Empire recording.
      I'm using the Guv'nor with my RATM Tribute and it is 100% the character of his distortion sound on that record. The s/t album, that is.

I don't think I've heard Spanish Moon somehow, even though from the listen of half the song I've heard, it's definitely interesting to me. Thanks for the rabbit hole to explore :)

    Love it! He not only nailed the part, he actually got the attack right too! Most people I've seen cover Rage bass lines play a bit more gently, but Tim slams those strings, you gotta power the fingers through the string to get the right sound 😍

    God he's good... could closely identify the type of drive pedal after a brief listen, automatically put his right hand over the string position where a MM pickup has its neck pole pieces for that particular harmonic content this song needs, dug in plenty hard to get some grind, not to mention his harmonic memory of the piece while talking about it.

    I really like this vid! I could never come up with the bassline as fast as he can and remember it all. Hats off for that. But with a bit of practise i can play about as well as his take. I know he would smash the song with a bit of practise but i think this is good and im happy im kinda there!

    I had no idea that scream was Maynard until he asked do you know who was singing in that section and it just clicked before he revealed it was Maynard. Heard this song hundreds of times before and never even thought that it wasn’t Zack.
