    The RC Saylors have one called the Elfi that I found on banggood and let Nate know about it. He told me he ordered one probably the same day I ordered mine. I havent gotten mine yet so they may have ordered it a week before mine. Theirs did a great job. I bought one for vacations and day trips for doing selfy pictures. I am sure you paid a lot for the Dobby compaired to the Elfi. Would be interesting to do a comparison side by side. Nate tends to fly all his quads like he is in a race,lol. Abby flys like she is just wanting to keep it in the air. This unit isnt a racing drone,I kidded him about that.They are great people. I have been watching more of your videos,you are picking up the stuff I thought he should be doing,that being off the shelf big box toys parents would buy their kids for christmas.I have heard people having problems with the Dobby as far as firmware. Thanks for clearing that up. Nice review. You are way better than the other Flyin Ryan by the way. Havent seen him at all on Motion RC lately.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the Elfie on the way too. I don't expect it to really compare at all to the Dobby though. No GPS, no image stabilization (I imagine), not brushless, not as good of a camera, etc, etc. It could be cool for a quick sort of selfie quad, without having to risk $300+ in your pocket. But, I'm doubtful it'll do near as well for actually taking selfie videos, without GPS, etc.

    • @scottfirman
      @scottfirman 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Flyin' Ryan RC I didnt expect it to be. I am going to start doing a video series soon on how the lower priced models compair to the cheaper model as far as them actually have the same basic components,the difference being the additional gps unit that in reality could be purchased as a replacement part for the expencive model,but easily install in the cheaper unit. I am going to have to try and get a sponsor to help me with the expence,those more expencive models are not cheap to buy just so I can rip the innards out of them just to prove my point. I can however,point out those blank spots on the cheaper units boards where the gps would be mounted,or in the case of my Sky King,where the external lighting kit plugs in. On a non lit version.

    The charging cord is a USB-C port and the adapter converts it to micro USB. Also USB-C could be much better and faster at charging batteries than anything else. It can handle 40 gigabytes per second of transfer speeds if it has thunderbolt 3! You probably just fell asleep reading this, XD.

    This one seems good for the price and being for selfies and armature photography.
    So many to choose from now days. The noise level reminds me of the Inductrix 200.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, this "selfie drone" market is blowing up. I'm curious to see if it lasts though... personally, it seems a bit "trendy" to me, and I think the novelty will wear off quickly, except for those that have a real purpose for it, like big time hikers, and stuff of that sort. For the average person, something like this is too rarely useful to be able to hold up the market for long. And yeah, the Inductrix 200 is SO noisy! I can't even test that thing indoors because it makes me ears start ringing. haha

    • @njsullyalex2744
      @njsullyalex2744 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, the selfie drones look cool, but I prefer drones that have gimbals for true aerial photography like the DJI Phantom. I fleel like selfie drones are going to be just a quick trend as they can't get the same kind of video that a Phantom can due to the lack of a gimbal.

    • @DaveMerc
      @DaveMerc 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm thinking Mavic Pro. It could be a selfie drone or an AP drone. Just need to justify the bucks.

    You made a number of inaccurate statements in your video, most of which have been corrected,
    1. The USB lead is USB3 for quick charging the battery. You need to connect to the Dobby with USB2 (which is what the USB adapter is for) to download videos/photos.
    2. Photos are 4k, video is HD
    3, You can switch between selfie and scenic camera orientation in settings.
    It is a fantastic little quadcopter (if a little expensive) for what it is marketed for - which is for taking selfies. It is not, in any way, trying to be a Mavic and is a third of the price of that. Who wants to fly 7km, anyway, especially as you are supposed to remain LOS? Dobby's range is fine for what it is designed for.
    I have one and I love it.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't recall saying any of those things.
      1. The manual does not state that anywhere. I have never heard such a thing as a different USB connection providing more power to charge the battery.
      2. Did I ever say otherwise?
      3. Pretty sure I covered that as well. Or at least didn't cover it all... I definitely didn't make any "inaccurate statement" about that.

    I think you missed a solid point. You were talking about tilting your phone forward but Dobby went backward, well I think you missed an option where Dobby is in selfie mode and the camera is actually now the "back" of the drone. So if you think about a rear facing camera then the controls are correct. If that makes sense...???

    I've skipped over all the other Doby reviews, but I always like your take on things, so I sat through the whole thing. That quad has sooo many features !! Some seem kinda intuitive and easy, like the Follow and the Boom Shot. But I can't imagine how they expect to sell it as a selfie drone.. too expensive and complicated. Thanks for the review.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does seem a bit expensive, but remember that it has brushless motors, GPS, and other stabilization systems. And, it's actually not very complicated at all, once you get a bit of experience with it. Right now they are making a lot of updates, so I've had a bit of a hard time keeping up with changes, as features come and go, but once they lock it down, I think it'll be quite easy to remember what is what.

    • @theimacman

      Not as far as I know. That would kind of reduce the portability of this, since the idea is sort of to just toss in your pocket or backpack and take it out for a quick selfie. It's not really intended for flying, so a physical controller isn't really that necessary. I've had no problems using the app with it. :)

      It really all depends on whether you're looking at it line-of-sight, or via the FPV screen. And, there is an option to make it fly with the camera facing forward, which then makes the controls the same either way. :)

      Flyin' Ryan, I think it's more fly it around LOS, then line up the picture via the phone. Also, I find gyro-control games much easier on my 7" tablet than on a smaller phone. You might give it a try on your Doby if you have a tablet available.

  • @scottfirman
    @scottfirman 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just saw your other comment. Thats weird the flip option disappeared. As these things become more popular you will be seeing more and more in different shapes and sizes. I have noticed China is good about producing different versions of the same exact thing. The fixed wing rear pusher style RC plane is one example. There are four different types by different companys,now I think there are 6. I wanted the one with leds but couldnt get one because they phazed them out,so I decided to buy the kit and added my own.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's not just China, or even just RC.... that is business as usual. heh Once one company has a hit, it only makes sense that other companies try their luck with similar ideas. And that's a good thing... that creates competition in the market, and that is how you keep prices low, and innovation high. :)

    • @scottfirman
      @scottfirman 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Flyin' Ryan RC Sadly,most of those products DO come out of China. Dont think for a minute different manufacters are producing them. Like the foam airplanes,the basic units are all made in the same building,just carry different branding according to what company wants what on their units. The components can be different to I guess,but how hard is it to substitute lower grade capacitors or leave the GPS chip out? I have a Sky King pusher foamy. They made that same exact plane for several companys and installed different electronics as per the order. I couldnt find the lighted model that used to be available but was able to obtain all the stuff I needed to install it myself. Same with the Retracts for my Dynam F4U. I was able to ontain the better metal retracts from FMS that fit the Dynam model to a T. I believe the body is exactly the same as the FMS ,just better electronics. I have been doing swaps for a few years. I find the base models that you can get cheaper,then order replacement parts through a better made model still end up costing me less than had I bought the more expencive model in the first place. Its that way every where now.

      Flyin' Ryan RC Ah ok, thanks. I tried indoor.. it hit the wall and crash landed. Took it to garden and hit the wall again.. crash landed. After researching a bit i found it needs calibration. Did it and now it's stable but battery dead lol. Time to recharge. Propellers scratched but not damaged because they're soft plastic. But when i tried to switch it off it cut my finger. Are the propellers cheap?

      DC G Check out the RC Saylors site. They did a review of it after I suggested it. I ordered mine and sent the video from Banggood to him. He did a good review of it. The thing works well. I havent gotten mine yet. I expect the Elfi is just a cheaper knock off as what commonly happends in China. They make several different quads using the same electronics by adding or subtracting some of the features.I have noticed many of the powered gliders being the same way. They slap a different decale set on them but they are the same thing inside.

      I'll be back soon. Not going to really hit on all those "Tiny Whoop" clones though. Way too of those out there, and I have little to no interest in them. I'm kinda worried that FPV is killing the regular quadcopter market. Way too much focus on "racing drones" these days, and no one really making good sport quads any more. :/

    Hey man, I love your videos, but there's so much drones out there and all of the one's I have gotten have broke, Whats your opinion on one of the best drones under $60 it would mean a lot if you replied and help a lot knowing from an expert...
    Edit:7 hopefully this is my final edit, sorry about all the edits..... Okay So I have set my heart on 2 drones the first one is
    Syma x11 Hornet
    And
    Syma X5C X5C-1 New Version Explorers Quadcopter Mode 2 With Camera
    From Banggood
    I just want a simple drone that fly's well hovers, and stunts... I previously own'd a x11 Hornet but I crashed it into a wall and it no longer worked, I was new to drones and had no idea what the hell I was doing (would've gotten the warranty on it but it was a gift sigh) If you could reply asap it would mean a lot as I said earlier.... if anther drone is better then those 2 that is under $60 let me know

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are having issues with crashing while you learn to fly, then I would suggest the XT001A. It is the perfect quad to learn flight with: th-cam.com/video/Y_YSG1oagcc/w-d-xo.html

      Haha no worries! I just say that because they are so expensive, and not overly durable or repairable, and there aren't spare parts for sale. Be careful not to damage too many props... that is probably going to be the main thing grounding beginners trying to learn to fly these models. Hopefully Propel starts selling spare props, at least.

    • @njsullyalex2744
      @njsullyalex2744 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I kinda see where you are getting at. I like DJI because their products are innovative, high quality, and reasonably priced. But they have made mistakes in the past, and while I haven't encountered their customer service (and hopefully I will never have to), I hear it is quite terrible. Honestly, in the right hands (like yours Flyin' Ryan) a DJI Phantom can be an amazing tool, and even though you dislike DJI, you would have a blast if you tried out their Phantom 3 Standard, which is around $450.
      I do wish people were more responsible with their drones. This may be partly DJI's fault because they market their products as "easy to fly", but I still think people should know better, so I don't think it is entirely DJI's fault.
