  • In this video I go through a detailed version of a power steering pump replacement on a 2nd gen Dodge Dakota (2000) 4.7L V8. This was filmed in my garage and the purpose of this is to help out the DIY guys out there that want to take on the challenge of doing it themselves instead of paying someone else to do it.
I hope this video is descriptive enough for you to follow.

The only thing you should have talked about was bleeding the air out

Tysm. This actually helps a lot as I couldn’t find a video like this for a long time. And this just popped up today. I have the same exact issue with the pump deciding that it doesn’t want to hold fluid and just want to let it go lol.

No need to remove the fan shroud, its super easy to remove the power steering pump bolts, drop it out the bottom then remove the hoses. You did it the hardest way possible.

I have a 97 5.2 v8.. I can't even get to the pulley without taking out my fan shroud. Which I can't even get to without taking off my fan. Which I can't get to without taking off my radiator. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the video. I have a 2002 Dodge Durango SLT Plus 5.9L the power steering pump is a bit different in which I have pull off the pulley but the basics are pretty much the same. Very informative! How much power steering fluid should I buy, I am not flushing the system? Thanks 👍

Glad it helped. You'll be fine with a single quart. It is a closed system and only goes from the reservoir to the pump, and then returns.

LOL. Unfortunately I got rid of this truck about 4 months ago. The thing about my channel and my lifestyle is that I go through anywhere from 4 to 15 cars a year. I'm already on car number 9 for this year so far. But don't hesitate to ask on here and if I am able to help, I certainly will 💯

Was there not enough room to pull the bolts out of the pump and just drop it down? I have a 4.7 and was able to do that.

You mean remove it from underneath? Sure you can.

Did your new kit come with the pulley attached? Or, did you just replace the pump side of the assembly and reuse the pulley?

I am having a HELL of a time trying to get that reservoir back on. Any tips?

    • @AllThingsQuick
      @AllThingsQuick  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah for sure. 2 tips. I'm assuming that you are talking about the power steering reservoir and nit the coolant/windshield washer reservoir.
Tip 1... bend the bracket on the reservoir with a pair of channel locks th be able to slide it on the pump easier.
Tip 2... install the reservoir on the pump before even putting the pump back on.
If this doesn't work then let me know and I'll come up with something. I've sold this truck long ago and it's been a while since I've worked on a dakota.
I actually had to watch my video back again to think of some ideas. But I recall having similar problems and I installed it with the pump off because it was way easier.

Change your title to read 2000-2004 V8. From 1997 to 1999, the V8 was either the 5.2 or 5.9, and mounting bracket was quite different. Also, cannot remove mounting bolts without removing the pulley (no holes in the pulley).
