It was a pleasure to work with Brion Jeannette during the construction of this outstanding example of very forward-thinking architecture. My ecosystem restoration company, Land Restoration Associates was retained to restore the unique California coastal ecosystem to the roof of the completed structure after salvaging some of the native plants from the construction site before construction, along with the soils and associated microbiomes. Tree of Life Nursery was very helpful in keeping the plants alive until construction was complete. The roof was almost perfectly designed and engineered by Jeannette, and made our job a lot easier. In the 1960's I became acquainted with the architect, Hugh Zimmers, who had designed a similar domed structure for the Arizona desert country.
I'm sorry to say that the roof ecosystem has declined over the years; I would be happy to assist in its restoration and provide assistance in its preservation according to the original City of Laguna Beach requirements/specifications. Sometimes well-intentioned workers, believing that a self-sufficient ecosystem needs "maintenance," can unwittingly damage ecosystem function by "loving it to death," as it were . . .
Having admired Gaudi’s beautiful creations in Barcelona I immediately recognize the lines and shapes of the building. The architect did an amazing job together with the builders. Often these creative projects are a real challenge for the builders but everybody involved delivered immaculate end results. Hats off 🎩

I've been going to that beach since the late 60's . Really masterful blending of the site with a living environment. Can't imagine a better plan for that site. Beautiful.
Art deco, art nouveau, rococo, Gaudi flourishes.....this really is iconic. Daring, bold, yet soft and harmonious. What a masterpiece.
i have been in front of this place a few times amazing how the rock blends right in with the house walk past this place less than half a mile pass through the rock archway you will find the most beautiful secluded beach in California

😃...I'm in the midst of doing plein air paintings for the hashtag stradaeasel contest challenge for September...morning a few days back, was on the way to the north bluff of Aliso Beach, and looked to my right and saw Aliso Bridge, and the pond the skim boarders/surfers have so much fun with...set up to do my big charcoal sketch...first things first, a sequence of sketches leading to a painting...the curve of the bridge the conceit, the motif, and, and wait!...that doggone house is IT with the curving cornice, echoing the bridge!...and moved my attention to the house...then, then on way home going north on One, I noted the garage built into the rock...that's some house!

I should have never left Laguna Beach. I really miss being there.
I haven't heard from Brion, but understand how busy he must be, and this restored ecosystem on the roof of the house is, after all, probably insignificant to him. If I remember correctly, I only met him once, in his office. I don't come on strong, and it's been over forty years, but I did landscapes and ecosystem restoration projects for government agencies, and wealthy clients too, such as US Steel, Golden West Broadcasters, and Triangle Publications going back well over a half-century. It's a glorious building, and I'm happy to have had the privilege of working on it. I would like to help him or the present owners fine-tune what's left of the ecosystem and at least correspond. No raking, please. Hand pick any trash and leave the soil alone except for any approved coring. Try to minimize the pitter-patter of little feet. Or the full weight of big ones. Best to all.

There would be only 2 things I would consider selling my soul for. To rid the world of suffering at number one, and THIS house (minus the over mount sinks) a close second. It is PERFECTION, even the size (well, except for the overmount sinks).

what would be gorgeous is if all the beachfront property was left natural , without any homes built for a few people .When I was in a little town called todo santos in baja ,the beach front was left pristine for all to enjoy ,homes were set back after the dunes.

@@seanpearce5809 we in Europe had this in Medival times, the parks from the royals were not allowed to the public. Thank god in 21st Century all beaches (and former royal parks) are free to the public, strange idea to European, that you can be such an asshole to withdraw the beach from the public
@@fredericbeigbeder9119 Yes, Im in Europe too. Its not exactly the same thing. Parks belonging to the Royal family only is not the same as the general public being able to purchase areas of land with its associated beech front.
Im speechless, straight out of a Disney movie it seems. If I could have any house in the entire world it'd be THIS one. Its like a mermaids little getaway 💕
