  • I’m well aware of the disasters that can potentially happen when stripping down resin and plastic models. BUT FEAR NOT..I have the solution.
    Cheers!

    I really must update this kit with provision for peco or Greenwich couplings plus the brake lever, excellent video as always!

      The brake gear would be a great addition mate, it’s beautiful as it is, so any more would compliment it

    I look forward to these videos every Friday. Like with your Corris railway layout can already see this will be great. Plus an inspiration to my own 0 gauge layout based on the Ffestiniog. Regards James.

      Love to hear that James, I hope your layout goes well, the ffesty is a great prototype

    Lovely job as usual George. I have used Dettol on Dinky Cars before...usually leaving them over night, but if you want a fast job put the container of Dettol in a Bain Marie of hot water and just watch the paint fall off.

      Brilliant tip, thanks I’ll try that soon!

    George, thank you for documenting, videoing, your process in making your layouts. I have just returned to railway modelling and have chosen 009. I have a question about your airbrush setup, as I have always only used a brush I have no idea what would be ok for this level of modelling. Could you maybe run through the tools you use and any recommendations? Cheers Jim

      Hi Jim, yes that’s a question that I get asked all of the time, I’ll be doing a full ‘airbrush for beginners’ video soon, but basically, in my experience chela airbrushes are absolutely fine for this type of work. I have used the ‘Expo tools’ airbrush and compressor combo for years, and have only just replaced them. The spraying isn’t difficult and you can work it out by practicing, but the main thing I’d recommend is to spend most of the time cleaning the brush after use, as this will be the cause of most issues. If I’m doubt or it’s not working..clean it again! Hope this helps until I get the proper video sorted

      Thanks George, I will have a look at the different airbrushes and see which fits my budget.

    More great tips George, particularly like the dettol one. Frustrating you had to do it three times, however the end result was worth it, looks great.

      Yes, I didn’t have to add that in, but I feel like people might think that I nail a model first time, and it’s just not the case. I’m always learning from what I do and trying new things

    I never seem to get on with Enamel washes and now use Flory Model washes, they are used a lot by aircraft modellers and are clay based which means once washed on and dry they can be wiped off with damp cloth to create the effect you like. And if it all goes horribly wrong a blast of water from the airbrush washes the lot off. They have youtube demos which might be of interest.

    • @GWilliamsonModels
      @GWilliamsonModels  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes I’ve heard of them, but never used them. If you think they’re good, I’ll definitely look into them. I’m the same, enamel just doesn’t seem to do what I want, and the consequence of getting it wrong is worse!

      It is interesting, just returning to modelling railways. The many ranges and types of paint that exist is overwhelming. In the ''good old days' you basically had enamels and a more restricted pallet. So mixing colours was just a part of it. I am trying to get used to acrylics and some of the different techniques. I do like that you use simple techniques and not a vast pallet. Thank you all

    Hey here’s a comment. Nice job. Always wondered how to use dettol so this is most useful.
    Cheers.

      Cheers Colin,
      And that’s a big point for this video, so many people don’t seem to know how to do it, or even that you can use it at all!

    I'm not sure this is a secret hack George - you TH-cam player you!
    I'd suggest 91% IPA is another option - I leave models to soak in this for hours, sometimes even days with no ill effects. The longer I leave it the easier the paint scrubs off with an old toothbrush.
    Humbrol 64 isn't a bad match for TR grey either, but I do prefer your more involved mix!

    • @GWilliamsonModels
      @GWilliamsonModels  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think you’d be surprised how often I get asked how to do it, or what it is etc. I think we sometimes take things as common knowledge, and it just isn’t the case.
      I do use IPA a lot, so I’ll try that mix next time!
      And Humbrol 64, I’m not home to check if I’ve got it, if I don’t I’ll get some in

      I’m poking fun at your title, not the content. I agree it’s good to explode myths and share proven methods. I recognise the title gets more views!

      I quite like the smell actually 😅 and yes, that is a plus for using dettol..especially if it gets spilt..
