- Westcliff Works have done it again, and this time its the original 4 wheel coaches. technically they're actually no3..but I'll see past the slight difference in dimensions of coaches 1 and 2 so I can use this super high detail resin models.
Westcliff works don't currently have a working website - though I've heard that they're working on it - you can find them on Facebook as well at the NGRM-online forum.
those old coaches are as iconic as the locomotives who hauled them. Always loved the story around the time the railway was built. An inspector raised concerns about the clearance of the coaches under some of the bridges and being a risk to the passengers. So the railway shifted the line to one side, nailed the right hand doors shut and called the problem solved.
100% agree, and in a train with one of the original locos, it’s a beautiful sight.
Yes, the railway was modified a few times, another bring when no6 Douglas arrived, and wouldn’t fit under the bridges, so the line was dug down to fit it through
Lovely coaches I hope to soon have some for myself!
Get in touch with Alec, I’m sure he can sort you out!
I actually have and was moments away from getting my order in, but money troubles appeared that day so I'm having to hold off
Very nice!
Thanks!
How long did you leave masking tape on for
Only long enough to spray what was going on, I try to remove masking tape with the coats still fresh
Even though it’s not Talyllyn, and more Ffestiniog, will you make Bug-box coaches for the layout?
No, this one is a prototypical TR layout, so only talyllyn stock on it. However, bug boxes will appear on the channel soon
Amazing vid but i gotta ask what paint thinner ratio do you use for such good coats?
Funnily enough, this weeks video is focussing on using an airbrush, so look out for that, but basically I don’t use any particular ratio, I look at the viscosity of the mixture and go from there
Hey, George, could you maybe repaint Skarloey to add Talyllyn to the loco line up??
Hi! Yes Talyllyn will be made at some point, though I know of a manufacture currently working on talyllyn bodies to fit the skarloey chassis, so that one will wait for now. Next week sees the first loco build built though!
@@anthonyfisher-7090 unfortunately that’s just a repainted Skarloey, with a lot of prototypical errors, so won’t be going for one of those
Where do I buy these
If you’re on Facebook, search for the ‘westcliff works’. They’re also in the ‘trade’ forums on NGRM-online. Failing that, his email is: westcliffworks3D@gmail.com have fun!
@@GWilliamsonModels thanks!
Hi George
I just got Talyllyn coaches 1,2,3 4,5 as complete kits with wheels from 3dfactoryuk
How do they look? I’ve seen them advertised, but not known someone who’s bought them yet
I'll let you know when they arrive I'm hoping the quality is good they look good in the pics
@@1960jackrussell yes please do
Lovely models! I will say that coaches 1 & 2 are not the same as 3, (Slightly bigger/taller)
Yes I know, I’m planning on replacing these if Westcliff works make a 1£2 😊
@@GWilliamsonModels ah ok 👍The bachmann coach 2 is rather accurate in terms of 1 & 2 if you're looking for alternatives
The issue with the Bachmann coaches is how thick the walls are, it’s really noticeable around the windows and puts me off!
Just wondering why you used enamel and not acrylic
Do you mean for the paintwork on the coaches? I just found that they were the closest colours to the Tr livery, nothing I found in acrylic was closer
Oh ok thanks
Some gorgeous carriages!! It’s lovely to see some Talyllyn carriages. I hope you have the right locomotive to haul them!!
Thankyou! I’ve currently got 1,2,4,6 and 9 - 6 is complete, and the video will be a week on Friday, and the others are to come, so I will have plenty of relevant power to move them!
Where did you get talyllyn from ive been looking but can't seem to find it
@@1960jackrussell it’s skarloey, but westcliff works are producing an actual Talyllyn body for it, can’t give a timeframe on that one though
what sort of couplings do you use on these
Honestly not sure yet, but I’m heading towards Greenwich style, they take time to build up, but look much nicer than commercially available versions, and can’t still be used with magnets, which is what I’ll need for the next layout
Thanks im ordering 8 of these i already have Douglas and got a Fourdees Dolgoch and Edward Thomas lots of paining to do your coaches look great by the way
@@1960jackrussell thanks, sounds like you’re going to be busy! I’d love to see how you get on
Try the Vallejo Metallic Colors. First apply glossy Black primer then the gold color. For aluminium I use the duralumin color. The only one I don't use is the chrome. I always prefer either the arcade or using adhesive chrome foil used mainly by car and aircraft modellers. It works a treat on a glossy surface. Hops this is helpful to you.
That’s brilliant, Thankyou I’ll give it a go
These look great! The red 4-wheeled Talyllyn coaches are classics! I was a little confused by your recent community post, haven’t you built No. 1, 2 and 7 already? You have them in your Tywyn Wharf layout videos.
Thanks! The Tywyn wharf layout was in 5.5mm, so a different scale completely, but you’re correct, I made 2 and 7 for it - and they run on the 5.5mm replacement layout, Pendre
@@GWilliamsonModels Oh I see! That makes more sense then! Can’t wait to see the new ones!
I'm surprised you didn't do the same thing you did with the tattoo locomotive which was by the official Thomas models and then repaint them
The Bachman coaches didn’t seem to have the same level of detail, which is why I went with these. I will, however, be using the skarloey range of locos when the time comes..
The Thomas coaches aren't 009 and unfortunately you can see the difference
@@1960jackrussell I’m using the Thomas coach no4, but it’s a bigger coach anyway, so I hope it’s now too out of place..or it’ll be going
Handrails etc i use Sharpie pens 👍🏻 gold, silver and bronze
Brilliant tip, I’ll give it a go!
@@GWilliamsonModels also POSCA paint pens 👍🏻 they can save a respray if it ever needs it and its so quick and simple.
@@matthewsnowdenshunterguy3352 I’ve not heard of those, but will look them up. I ever think to use stationary like that
