    For me 911 Turbo has become a tool, not a car.
    It is the fastest on the sunny, rainy or snowy days.
    It just takes you from A to B in the fastest and comfortable way possible.
    And for that I think this car is a little special. There's no competition for this. In 720S you won't drive in snow or rain, in Rolls Royce you won't be as fast and agile, nor the bentley. It is just one of a kind car, for wealthy people who drive a lot.

    From my experience Turbo customers tend to be wealthier than other 911 varIants. Not just because this is a more expensive car, but in the sense that guys who already have/had Carreras and GT3 go for the Turbo as their daily driver. Those in the know see the Turbo as a “I have other desirable cars in the garage, this is just my daily.” kind of car. Higher spec Targas are gaining this image as well.
    Other carmakers try to tap this clientele with the R8, AMG GT, M6/M8, Vantage, GTC4 Lusso etc but they just cant replicate that image. Hard to tell exactly why this is, but my guess is that the fact the Turbo looks exactly like any 911 to most non-car people give it a very discreet image that the appeals to the super wealthy choosing this as a daily driver.

      @F1ll1nTh3Blanks 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pretty much. For the kind of value you're getting it's the best car in its segment from a standing start. However it's not really a supercar anymore in my opinion. It's more like the best small sports GT. If you're a billionaire super rich and your favourite car was an Audi RS5 or an BMW M4 and you were looking for the best step up that useable everyman sports car lader this is the one to get. Or if you just like a supercar no frills then this is the one to get. Not a foot wrong anywhere but being said..
      ..It's just not a supercar, there's just not enough wrong with it. It doesn't compromise enough, or do something that sets you alive in that way.
      It's like an a well taught service dog to an unruly puppy.

    I must be the inverse of Sam. All the reasons he wouldn't have bought a 911 Turbo S are the reason I would. This so-called 'character' that people talk about is another word for it being very loud and being twitchy and unpredictable. Give me a relatively stealthy car that can keep up with a Performante, or a TDF, or a 720S but makes none of the noise and I'm happy. I'd also get it in a dark grey.

    • @paul3180
      @paul3180 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I've had loud cars before and they are fun when you are young and don't know better. ;) But now I am 50 I don't want a car that beats me up when I am cruising on the freeway at 75 mph. The occasional blast of sound is fun, but all the time gets old really quick. If I had the means, a Turbo S would be in my garage. Not sure what color though.

  • @MichaelMigoHiller
    @MichaelMigoHiller 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I don't agree on the Turbo S lacking character, except if character is defined by the exhaust note only. The performance this car delivers is absolutely mental. That doesn't only include straight line performance but track performance as well. While you can definitely feel the added weight in comparison to a GT3, the Turbo S is still more agile and especially more stable on the street than most other supercars. The performance is certainly more accessible even for less experienced drivers but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
    To me, the Turbo S is an incredible performance car first and a comfortable GT car second, not the other way around. And that whole package is what I would say a unique character, unlike any other car in its segment. It's like that 1 friend that looks good, is super smart and you can always count on haha.

    I switched from a McLaren 570S to a 911 Turbo and I've not regretted it. Similar straight-line performance in the dry but the Porsche can it deliver 365 days of the year. Less turbo lag, less traction control intervention and far better stability under heavy braking are some of the 911 Turbo's major advantages, along with the ability to use the performance in any road condition. I miss the McLarens supercar good looks, but having been followed home twice in a month by "undesirables", there's something to be said for the Porsche's more understated appearance.
    The other area where the Porsche triumphs is build quality. Finding out your McLaren requires 4 new body panels at 12 months old due to corrosion, isn't something that installs confidence for those seeking a long term relationship. It was enough to make me contemplate my McLaren ownership and switch back to a Porsche. For those seeking supercar performance in a car you can use daily, there's no better package than a 911 Turbo. I never get out of mine thinking it is boring.

    • @mrc2662
      @mrc2662 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      R2vers2de excellent post and v interesting, McLarens look amazing and a 720S is staggeringly good. But the lack of independent support, terrifying depreciation and patchy build quality scares me away. My 991.2 Turbo S cab never, ever, ever, feels ‘boring’ - not in the real world, away from Spa, or Monza, or wherever. It’s just unbeatable for what it aims to do.

    its not fair to say porsche set out to make the best they could, and that's the Turbo S. Because it isn't. They have the GT serious for that. What you are missing in character and "fun" from this car you will find plenty in the GT3, GT2 series. You have unfairly judged it on what its not meant or trying to be. This is a straight up mile muncher. Its a silent assassin.

    • @Speednote10
      @Speednote10 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think his point is that Porsche set out to build the best Turbo S they could and they accomplished that. There is no best Porsche since it's entirely subjective and all up to what we want from the car. For example the GT cars are the worst cars Porsche make if you want backseats for your kids/dogs, year round capability and a relatively comfy ride, while they are the best if you're looking for pure drivers cars to take to the track.

    Most people say that it's a soulless car and yet they haven't driven one, so when they finally drive it they're stuck with this idea because they don't understand the car or simply because they want to appear knowledgeable about supercars.This car is amazing, fun to drive, hypercar fast and destroys every other supercar, it just does it effortlessly so it definitely is a supercar. Not as fun as a gt3, gt3 rs or gt2rs (on the racetrack) but you can't compare it to a gts, the turbo s is on another level

      @@stefangrubesic2708 😂 Yeh, can't forget the GT2 RS. I think that one is abit too much for some however. I feel like that one is more of a track car than a supercar GT however. I feel that goes too far the other end of compromise to deliver this.
      Maybe if there was a GT2, like a GT2RS reigned in somewhat for the everyday. I guess the Exclusive Series was that in someways, exept maybe it suffered bad marketing idk.
      For me Porsche have yet to fill that market of making a big supercar. Something abit ridiculous and senseless visually and dynamically but approachable, comfortable and luxurious enough to use day to day like other companies have.* They've either gone too much one way or too much the other in this segment. Maybe it's just me though.
      Honestly I can't understand why they haven't looked at this, I'd have thought they could've pulled customers from all over the shop. I mean why not, they've got pretty much every other segment covered.. Maybe they'll surprise us with the 992 Turbo but I have my doubts.

    I have owned 911 Turbos and S cars...when you could get them in MT they were a bit more engaging but the PDK just can't be beat for performance. I live in Florida where the emissions checks are effectively non existent so I always put a catless exhaust and a tune in my Turbos...that makes them a bit more "edgy" with some pop and snaps but I get what this gentleman is saying, the Turbo S 4WD PDK is blazingly fast but is so smooth and refined it can feel lacking in "fun". I am watching my portfolio closely and trying to get to the point that I can buy a GT2RS, which I think would fix the 911 Turbo fun factor problem completely.

    Is the age old problem of turbocharged cars. The Turbo S is like the 720S, fast as hell, no doubt about it, but it pretty much just stops there. Sometimes, it is not just about how fast the car is, it is about how it makes you feel. On that front, that is precisely why that there is something to be said about naturally aspirated supercars especially the V12 variety.

      Michael Kastner Actually, he’s not. The Turbo S is the car that puts smiles on your face 365 days of the year. The RS is utterly epic, I have no doubt whatsoever. But it’s nothing like as usable or drivable in real world conditions. I have the Turbo S (cab) and sure, I’d love a GT3 RS. But they’re fundamentally and radically different cars. Over a year, I am pretty sure I’ll have more fun from my Turbo S than in this horrible UK climate I’d manage in an RS. And in the many days I can’t drive it, I’d be in the sh*tsmobile practical family car instead. In a Turbo S, every day is fun.

    Have had the good fortune to spend some time with a 458 and a 488 spider and a TurboS pretty much like what you are driving , also a GT3 touring , An SLS and an AMG GTS, and yes I agree with you that the TurboS among the 6 would be “soulless” is it a super car ? I think it would depend on ones definition , mine is if you want a car that’s about the quickest , handles like car on rails and is low key and does not call attention to itself , the TurboS is that! best of all the Cars I’ve had a chance to spend a lot of time in . The Ferraris are very good but not as quick and calls way to much attention to themselves . The GT3 handles very well and sounds super but is not as quick . I’m a believer that the TurboS is about as good as it gets

    Bias isn't a bad thing. There's a reason you own a Carrera T and not a Turbo, so it's pretty obvious you'd prefer the car you BOUGHT.

    Not sure what you think about that “character” when half of the ownership of Ferrari, Mclaren, Aston is spent in the repair shop. Porsche is usable, and true to the driver.

    I just think the Turbo S is not really meant to be a track monster (the GT cars are better suited for this), but there are no public roads that you can use the car to its capabilities.
    Regardless, I wouldn't kick a Turbo out of bed.

      I applaud his honest opinion. Chris Harris gives his honest opinion and in doing so was banned from Lambo and Ferrari giving him cars to review. Therefore, I trust what he says. I can't stand when the reviewer gawks and gawks at a car and only comes up with the "headlights could be less round" as a fault of the car, because they don't want to piss the company off.

    I don't get this round the world thingy, why have u flown a car to Australia for a week or so to fly it all the way back? I would of flown the car to thailand maybe. I would have flown to New Zealand, then Aus, then head up to thailand to meet the car and then drove home from there.
    And I am also desperate for a daily map of where you are and where you're going (topgear esque). I feel disconnected from the journal.

    I must say for Porsche hooking you up with cars to drive, I expected you'd be a little kinder to the brand. Your commentary feels a bit unfair, the Turbo is an absolute weapon, one of the best cars on any road. You can make it bark in the aftermarket. You made it sound "meh" as can be, which I'm sure is not remotely close to accurate.

      Fair enough but 10 out of 47 videos this year have been focused on Porsche and 3 or 4 of those are just ones about my car (which is a Porsche). I understand it's not to everyone's taste and I'm trying to keep it varied, but there is not as much Porsche content as some think
