  • Just a quick demo to show that it is possible to replace the Akai MPC1000's LCD with one bought from BuyDisplay. (Link to this exact display: www.buydisplay.com/graphic-lc...) NOTE: do not order your LCD with the header pins installed! I did this, and a) they were installed on the opposite side of the LCD, and b) they used 22-pin header pins, which won't work with the ribbon cable you need. (No fault of BuyDisplay's -- I didn't think this part through until I got it) Also, I strongly discourage soldering header pins directly to the PCB -- with a ribbon cable connected, the total height of the pins & connector will be too tall to put the front panel back on.
To get the LCDs from BuyDisplay to work, you need to swap pins 9 and 20 on the ribbon cable. Then, solder a wire connecting pin 3 (+5V Vcc) on the LCD to pin 21 (LED_A, Backlight Anode 5V), and a wire connecting pin 2 (Ground) to pin 22 (LED_K, Backlight Cathode 0V). How you do this is up to you; I replaced the 20-pin IDC ribbon connector on the motherboard side with a 2x10 Dupont-style crimp connector housing (from Pololu: www.pololu.com/product/1917).

Could I possibly pay you for a 240x128 screen?

Nice one 👍 Any chance you could share details on how you did the swap? What cable goes to where on the new LCD etc. Or was it a 1:1 swap regarding the pinouts?

With this particular display, the only pins needing swapped were pins 9 and 20. Everything else is one to one. You can see more discussion here: www.mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=187685

Sorry, I'm not on social media. I would check out the MPC forums for help on the 2500: www.mpc-forums.com/
