Is It Worth The Money? 2018 Suzuki Swift Sport First Drive

  • Apologies for the later upload, I've been busy making another video, which didn't exactly go to plan...
    Anyway, moving on... The new Suzuki Swift Sport is here, and it features a new engine, new styling, and an enlarged price tag - almost £18,000. I - with the help of fellow TH-camr Pocket Rockets - got to have a first drive of the new model in the beautiful Irish countryside.
    The new model is more refined and grown up than the last model, and thanks to a new turbocharged 1.4 litre, it has 4 more bhp and an impressive 70Nm more torque. This power is fed the front wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox with a 10% shorter throw.
    0-62 is dealt with in 8.1 seconds and the top speed is an improved 130mph. The new car is also 70kg lighter but also stiffer, so it looks as if the new Swift Sport has improved in every area. Is it still good fun to drive though? Check out this video to find out.

    Hello everyone, and welcome to my first drive video of the new Suzuki Swift Sport. If you have any questions, please let me know and I will answer them as best as I can. I should be getting the chance to spend more time with this car in a few months, so if there is a specific area you would like me to focus on please let me know.

      Hi Aaron!!! I'd like that you give us your two penn'th about how the car reacts to strong side winds, if it is too sensitive or not, and also about the sound system. Thank you very much and congrats for such a great job. Next time you'd better join the EU pressmates and test the car in Marbella, of course without belittling Irish countryside and its green grass 😉 What a pity driving on the left!

      I don't get invited to European press launches I'm afraid mate. It was very windy when we were on track and I couldn't detect any real problems. The sound system isn't too bad either, Pocket Rockets and I certainly enjoyed our tunes on some of our road trips! Thanks for watching, and thanks for the feedback

      Please watch this clip on Swift 1373cc at 140ps. At 3.47 mins of the clip, 29 MPG (10.3 km/litre) appears on the screen. Strangely, as a car tester you should perform the fuel consumption on actual live driving and not to rely on the official factory combined fuel consumption of 16.6 km/litre (Japanese car manufacturers always exaggerate on the fuel consumption to boost their sales) . The fuel tank is small at 37 litres maximum. This will work out a 37 litres x 10.3 km = 381.1 km. The owners of these cars would have to visit the petrol station often. Fuel consumption plays an important part for budget car buyers.
      th-cam.com/video/qvH70620rBA/w-d-xo.html
      Clip at 2.21 mins show "Average fuel consumption of 7.9km/L" This car sucks petrol at frightening rate.

    This really does seem like a good grown up hot hatch with practicality. Im 50 and I really dont like big saloon cars. I like cars that are fun to drive, but dont want silly fake noise being pumped into the cabin or to be in something that makes me feel like im having a midlife crisis. This doesnt makes loads of noise so it would be refined on a motorway with its 6 speed box, has five doors, its quick and not expensive. I also expect it to be tough and long lasting like every other Suzuki car these days. Good review mate.

    I enjoyed your review. I've had my Swift Sport for 3 months as I'm in Australia and were released at the beginning of the year. I do agree the Gearbox could be a slicker. Suzuki have understated the 0-62 mph (0-100 kmh). In Australia the tests here have shown times of 7 to 7.3 seconds for the 0-62 mph. I did have the previous Swift Sport and the new version is definitely worth the extra money. That being said in Australia the price didn't jump as much as over there. Cheers

    Have owned one for 5 months! Fabulous car, which grows on one every day! Terrific brakes, beautifully firm grip in tight corners and in the wet. A joy to drive, with all the power you. need in those tricky situations. The Automatic Transmission is a dream, with a precise paddle shift if you want to drive manually. Also seems especially grippy with the Yokohama racing tyres. Only one negative (are you taking note Suzuki?): the placing of the pedals in the A,/T needs adjustment in the right hand drive model! Otherwise a veritable "Dream Machine"!😀😀😀

      A lot of people don't take this car seriously but fact is that the whole package (brakes, suspension, accesoiries, engine) just goes very well together. You can feel that this car is made for even more power, so there is already a lot of engine tuning available in Japan. Plus, Suzuki is much more reliable than a VW... This one is number 1 on my list and i've driven a lot of cars... And it has an Oil temp meter!!!

    A good, honest review and just confirms my decision to buy one over the Seat Ibiza FR. It is expensive but when you look at the spec, it's really good value. To spec the FR to the same level would cost almost £20,00.

      I work for Suzuki, I used to own an Ibiza FR a few years back... the Swift blows it out of the water. Used both cars on the road and on the track, Swift comes out on top in my opinion. Test Drive both, see what you think. Everyone has different opinions. Just so you know, any Swift Sport bought in June has £1,500 discount and £750 Deposit contribution for finance. You won't find a better deal at any other Suzuki dealer.

    Hi, I've done just over 5000 miles in my Swift Sport and have found it to be a very good all round car. Very comfy on a long run, we recently went to Yorkshire and back in the day, around trip of 270 miles and the car averaged 53 miles per gallon, helped no doubt by the low revs in 6th gear. Now mpg is probably not top of the list of criteria with this type of car, but it helps. On the fun side it feels much quicker than the figures suggest and it's road handling is excellent helped no doubt by its light weight and the brakes are very good. I'm in my 60s and did not want something too frantic. My old Ignis sport was 100% reliable which was a big reason for sticking with Suzuki.

    • @CarObsession
      @CarObsession  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @mrg-ghx8052
      @mrg-ghx8052 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The problem with the ST is it's a Ford. Has to go to Ford dealers and will most likely be nicked while you sleep.

    • @CarObsession
      @CarObsession  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I'd argue that's a bit of a generalisation but I can see your point.

    • @mrg-ghx8052
      @mrg-ghx8052 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a massive generalisation I know, but it's one based on my experiences with Ford dealers, what I read online from existing customers and the common knowledge that Fords with keyless entry are targeted by thieves because they are highly vulnerable. If what we're trying to get to is that the swift is slightly over priced, I wouldn't argue. I think it's good, possibly better than some more expensive alternatives, very complete, has great manners and is a credit to Suzuki. Full RRP who gives a ...., we all know to sell these things, it's going to be down to the finance deal. Keep up the great work guys, subscribed 🖒

  • @abdulwahaab9026
    @abdulwahaab9026 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Price is steep but give it a few years and in the used car market, it will become a bargain buy, just like most 5 year old petrol performance cars currently. Personally i think the torque offers that faster acceleration and now the 0-60 time has significantly improved, from 8.7 to 8.1, thats more than fast enough for the roads in UK. The power hasn't been vastly increased, but it works well and it completes the package, its not meant for people looking to buy a RS3, but for what it is and what it does and offers, regardless of price, is really well done.

    • @CarObsession
      @CarObsession  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the price is rather steep, but if you look at the complete package that the car is able to offer, you will see it's good value. Will most buyers want or need the extra features that the Sport offers as standard? Probably not, there's certainly some features I could live without. But yes, like you say, these are likely to be a bit of a steal on the used market in a few years. Thanks for watching.

Don't care for the fact Fabia 0-62 is 7sec to the Swift Sport 8.1sec.....0-62 is just pointless figures...what makes a good car is good mid-range 40-60/40-70 sprints. Handling more important too which this would run circles round a Fabia. Only the Ford ST is it's danger point as it's bit close in price..... however no dealers selling them for the £18k mentioned selling for £15-16k as ex-demo/pre registration stock looking around.
