- Courtesy of Suttons City Suzuki in Roseberry, I got to take the all new 2018 Suzuki Swift Sport for a day. Test Drive a Hot Hatch? Yes please! We brought the Swift Sport to the Royal National Park to see what the car can really do on tight fun roads. Suzuki has done it again with another hot hatch that proves to give you endless smiles and giggles with this new Swift Sport. The 1.4 Turbo Engine proves to be pretty punchy and with the Swift Sport's new weight at 970Kg, it was perfect. Only just wished the Swift Sport Exhaust was a little more dramatic.

Best hot hatch for under £20k (UK) at the moment. I like the fact its a bit muted so it would be a good all rounder especially for longer journeys. Ive had an Abarth 595 and although a great car, it was a bit loud on the motorway with the constant roar from the exhausts. If I want plenty of noise id get a WRX STI ! Im 50, and I really like this car. I think it could appeal to different age groups as its not a hardcore boy racer car, but has enough about it to interest younger drivers, yet caters for middle aged blokes that want a good handling, fun to drive mile eater with a bit of refinement.

@@shanmugastro There are plenty Maruti Swift for sale in your country...I don't get your comment. You won't get the Sport due to the fact it is only built in Japan, not locally as the rest of the Swift lineup.

Was a fan of the old one. Looked aggressive. Just spotted a standard Swift on the road and am more impressed than. I thought I would be with the looks. Looks very sporty in white and good contrast with the black. Need to get myself to the closest dealership to see the Swift Sports 👌
it's a shame Suzuki pulled out of the USA, i would buy a new Swift.

In South Africa the Sport definitely isn't a competitor to the Polo Gti or Clio RS. Both of those cars are somewhere between 35-40% more expensive than the Swift Sport.

Thanks for the review. Bigger tyres would ruin the car. The reason the car is fun, is because the handling of the car is accessible with those tyres. Put wider tyres on with more grip and all you’ll end up doing is making the handling limit higher and take some feel / agility out of the chassis. I have the outgoing Sport and it has plenty of grip, even with slightly more weight than this new car. But on 195’s, the ability to balance grip between front and rear axles during hard cornering is sublime. Big grip would ruin that at manageable speeds.

John Dean few friends have gotten it for 31k when no options. Swift is at 29 drive away.

In Belgium a Polo GTI with zero options costs 27300 euro, a Swift Sport with all the options costs only 20999 euro...

You failed to mention the massive difference in price. The Polo base price with nothing in it compared to the Swift price is a whopping $6k! Add the optional packages to bring is up to the standard options in the Swift sport and you take that price to $40K!!! So plase, compare apples with apples and stop comparing the Polo GTI and the Clio GT with the Swift Sport. The aforementioned 2 are not even in the same league.

Thing i found it annoying about most of suzuki's car is that the backseat. It is too "tegak" or you might say too "steep". Even if you already have adjusted it. Aside of this, it goes really well.

if you buy one you'll be on the driver's seat so.....if those who are in the backseat don't like....it's their problem...go on foot or use the bus... I bought a swift 1.0 Booosterjet and love it.
Honest review.But, I disagree with you that the polo gti is better looking. Also, suzuki as a brand is much, much more reliable than both vw and Renault or even audi , according to many recent uk surveys .

Actually it's a conservative estimate from suzuki themselves. Quite a few independent actors has taken it under 8s.
Yeah that's my uncertainty. Seen timed runs of 7.4s... but most reviewers so far seem to say around 8s. Either way, think am gonna start saving for it 😂😍

yes but ford got serious quality issues with their sports models. the focus rs engines fell apart quick with oil leaks. not to expect from a suzuki. :-)

Disappointed, was hoping for a 200hp rocket, like the fiesta, but instead, it turned out to be ugly turtle almost the same hp decade ago, 125 and 135, now 138, hope they will bring back the 1.6 and give it 200hp or at least 180hp.
Motto fiesta's like 200kg heavier, outright power isn't everything...

Motto I think you've missed the point of this car (think the saying add lightness). And this swift is far better looking than the new fiesta for sure. Suzuki could do with an extra fast version though.
200kg is not much with extra 60 horses, my point is 1.4L puts out 138hp, whereas others 1.5L put out 200hp, did you see how inefficient their engineers are. I think a lot of their hard core fans will started looking elsewhere for the 200 horses rocket, and glad I found it, it is Honda Civic Si 205 hp 1.5L , more reliable than ford fiesta, which I also read constantly with their turbos breaking, Ford does not build things to last like the Japanese.

No, the hardcore fans don't buy swift sports because they are fast, they buy them because they are fun. Again, you've missed the point of the car. The engineers aren't trying to squeeze every last bit of power out of the engine like honda. They are more focused on chassis dynamics and weight. In Europe, having this car under 150hp makes it considerably cheaper on insurance too than something with 200hp+. Lastly, the civic si is in a higher class than this car. Not only is it bigger, but it's considerably more expensive. Considering how many of these suzuki is selling, I think they know their core fanbase.
Diarmuid, I guess Suzuki is targeting towards new and younger driver, for those who had owned the SSS before may want more hp besides fun and handling. Well 0-100 is 7.6 secs, not too bad, I figure if the boost is not too high, can tweak out another 20hp with boost controller and air filter, anyway with its light weight advantage, this can be 6 sec rocket with mods, which is extra money out of the pocket with no warranty, whereas civic si is out of the box 200hp but 300kg heavier, so again is up to personal preference.
