  • It's the new 2019 Suzuki Swift Sport! We've been looking forward to driving this for quite some time. Has fitting a turbocharged engine made it less fun than it used to be? Is it still one of the most entertaining small hot hatchbacks around?

    I did my driving test on this car and i can seriously say it ticks all the boxes. Easy to handle comfort and very economical too

      This not a engineering marvel, they just reduce the thickness of sheet metal used in car, to get better efficiency and quick drive, got low rating in ncap crash test.

      Never heard of ultra high-tensile steel or 3D constructional calculation? Actually the Swift did very well in adult occupants protection tests (88%), even better than some BMWs and much bigger and more expensive cars released in the same year thanks to Suzuki's advanced super lightweight platform. The only reason the car didn't win a full 5 star rating in Euro Ncap is it doesn't have much safety equipment as standard such as lane keeping assist, which costs a lot. If you still believe light cars are weak in 2018, it's African-tier ignorance.

      trilok chandrakar not totally true
      The chassis play a rule on weight like the small 37lts fuel tank for example this car it’s not. Maruti Suzuki this is build on Japan 🇯🇵.

    Welcome to this side of the Irish Sea (rain is mandatory). Great review of a pocket rocket! A good ad for having a spare tyre too. :-))

      It was a pleasure! The rain only really appeared once I'd stepped outside the car... Thanks Andrew. And a spare would have been handy! My first ever puncture, too!

    Always liked the old sports. Nice chunky styling. I think this looks a little awkward but still a great car and very tempting.

    Another great review, thanks 👍
    The notion of a modern sub 1000kg hot hatch that isn't an Abarth really appeals to me and Suzuki reliability is legendary. That said, I do think it's far too expensive for a junior hot hatch.
    I take it the Swift doesn't get a full size spare as you were left stranded by the side of the road? This is disappointing if that is the case especially with relatively small wheels/tyres, my 208 GTi manages to stow a full sized spare under the boot and I feel much happier knowing its there should I need it.

    • @MrSlubbo
      @MrSlubbo 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The normal swift does has a spare. However, since the sport has dual exhausts (on 2 sides, as the 208 has it on one side) it had to take the room somewhere. Unfortunately it was the spare.

    • @newmotoring
      @newmotoring  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Carl! Agreed, it's an appealing little package. I think what bugs me about the price is it's so much closer to other cars with more performance... As for the spare, not sure! We had a glue and air pump, but our focus was on getting the car back to Suzuki and getting to the track! We didn't have any phone signal, either... Thankfully we were rescued by an Ignis! Seán

    • @MrZekToR
      @MrZekToR 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldnt worry to much about the price. Everyone barters on the price of a new car these days. I reckon Suzuki have priced the car with discounts in mind. The old car was very cheap for the spec, and after discount - they were practically giving it away.

    • @newmotoring
      @newmotoring  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The provisional finance deals on the new car do look quite tasty. You start to forget the £18k headline figure when you can have one for £200 per month.

    • @Ohlukei

      the Abarth is heavier than the Swift Sport. The 500/595 Abarth weight is over 1000 kg.

    It's strange, in Belgium this car is 3000 euros (+- 2600 £) more expensive than the last Suzuki Swift Sport. Which isnt too bad considering all the new options you have. Anyway mine is ordered and will arrive 30/06, seems like a long time to wait ... :D

    Better luck when you get the car back again!
    Shame it's now more expensive.
    Will Sport owners now stay loyal to the brand or will they decide to go elsewhere?
    I think the VW Up GTi may have stolen the Mantle.
    Continued support cheers.

    • @newmotoring
      @newmotoring  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hope so! We'll have to wait and see. It is just that little bit closer to cars like the Fiesta ST and Peugeot 208 GTI now... And the Up GTI could be an issue, you're right! Thanks Chris, really appreciate it. SW

    • @gedam131
      @gedam131 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      the UP! GTI is just plain hideous and is just another VW i think this car is way better and makes a nicer statement, i personally like the looks aswell!

    • @Puddingtops
      @Puddingtops 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love the swift sport and it was a toss up between this and the Up ! GTI ( driven both) for me.
      I went for the UP! GTI as it’s considerably cheaper more fun to drive and VW gave me a very generous £1800 scrappage deal for my 15 year old diesel.
      Only issue with the UP ! Is the 9 month wait I’m having for delivery . Ordered March delivery December if I’m lucky.

      change the turbo to the same size Mitsubisi twin-scroll turbo, and remap the ECU. you will get nearly 200bhp on wheel.

    mat watson said 230nm torgue, this says 170

    • @markturner-smith5309
      @markturner-smith5309 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is 230nm for the Swift Sport 1.4T Boosterjet (& apprantly Suzuki take the figures from BHP "at the wheels" rather than more traditional measurements which actually may make engine BHP more than stated). The 170nm is the figure for the 1.0T Boosterjet 115ps engine.

    You don't need torque when your between 6000-7200 most of the time. They ruined it by going turbo in my opinion

    • @newmotoring
      @newmotoring  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      They had to do it, though, although it isn't massively different in terms of MPG or performance.

    • @TomTomTomTom538
      @TomTomTomTom538 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      NewMotoring why did they have to do it? Emissions? Eco reasons? I can't argue with the performance, I'm just disappointed that it's lost some character and individuality and become another generic small turbo that are ubiquitous in today's market

  • @marcusskyfall
    @marcusskyfall 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hugely overpriced as they're getting into Fiesta ST money. No one will pick this if the ST is just a little bit more £'s

    • @newmotoring
      @newmotoring  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Suzuki reduced the price by £1,500 after we filmed the video for customers ordering before 1st June (probably because so many people complained and Suzuki got a little worried), but it's now returned to £17,995. You're right, it is close to the ST... Speaking of which, we're driving the Fiesta ST tomorrow!
