I was so confused and to had to re-watch the video listening closely for where exactly he mentioned caramel corn! I was about 2min in before I realized it was a joke, but now I cannot hear anything else but "caramel corn"!
I climbed in a Little Cottonwood Canyon and you could hear boulders cracking down the mountain above. I was told "don't worry, they never come into the canyon" 3 days later it was on the news that "boulders and rocks almost kill climbers in Little Cottonwood Canyon"
I've been here for a little over a year and I really appreciate you listening to us about never changing the soundtrack, cadance and voice for lack of knowing what the proper terminology is. Not trying to be selfish but it's why I come here first after checking my phone for something to mask the silence I asked for but honestly never realized was terrifying at times in the woods of New Hampshire alone. PTSD sucks
This channel fuels my passion for mountains, albeit at a safer distance. After hiking in the Nepalese Himalayas, it’s a dream to visit the mighty peaks of the Karakoram as well. Thank you!
I don't know why anyone would NOT watch this channel on a constant loop while they were preparing to go climb any mountains! It would help you make certain you really prep the way you need to for your trip - with an updated last will and testament and lots of adult diapers. You know, so when they find your body you are not stinky and they know what to do with you!

Wow. Great content, great story telling without all the unnecessary sound effects, etc. The photo at the end really brought this story to life for me. I am now subscribed. Looking forward to binging your content.
Yassssss it’s a good morning for this. I’ve never heard of this mountain or expedition before. I’m glad they didn’t push ahead for the summit; that was the right move. It seems in recent years mountaineering has lost the reckless attitude of old . less climbers subscribe to “throw caution to the wind” ideology which is great to see I won’t be climbing any mountains😅; but it’s nice to see safety culture emerging
1996 is very recent for a successful ascent. The photos are beautiful - I can see the appeal of summiting, but the risks are higher than for anything else I remember seeing on this channel. Survival being the exception is an understandable challenge.
I was lucky to visit base camp of Ultar mountain many years ago and see it with my own eyes. It's actually very impressive massif mountain. When you see the mountain and you can't tell what is the easiest /safest way to climb it, that is the mountain that will certainly drew attention of climbers. It doesn’t have to have rigid ridges or be pointy sharp to be considered difficult or desirable.
Just seeing the geography of the areas makes me understand why the Nepalese were never conquered. This has to be some of the most defensible terrain in the world.
I like the videos and his voice isn’t bad but it would be a little easier to watch if there was a lil bit of passion when he spoke. He sells his stories short by how he kind of drones on.
What was the cause of Yamasaki’s ( hope I have his spelling correct) stomach condition? Virus? Bacterial infection? Getting sick increases risk of so many other things happening you may have otherwise had the chance of managing.
You were very close on his name: Yamazaki Akito 山崎彰人. The only information that I could find on a Japanese mountaineering blog said that it is believed that he suffered a gastric perforation, but there's no mention of what could have caused a perforation in the first place. However, the men had basically run out of food at the end when they were delayed by the storm for several days. If he'd had an underlying stomach condition that may have aggravated it. Also, physical trauma is a frequent cause. There are a number of Japanese resources. I was only able to skim through them, but they didn't seem to have more detailed information. His climbing partner Matsuoka also wrote a book about their climb and memorializing Yamazaki.
YES these mountains R Beautiful but unforgiving !! Like I say: Mountaineering is a Dangerous sport !! Thanks 4 the video and as always ur Coolness !! ❤❤
Ummm clearly you are not a mountaineer or appreciate the passion. You are not cool by being judgemental. Also, many nations such as Pakistan and Nepal depend on the climbing fees and job opportunities. Ever been to Nepal? Stop embarrassing yourself?
Then don't listen. Many of us enjoy the artful cadence and reflects the darkness of the subject matter. Hopefully he does not change his style for the scant few that complain and don't appreciate the well researched and respectful content thst is the hallmark of Mornid Midnight!
What part specifically? Because if it's the entire video, it's a problem on your end. It fits on my screen just fine, no dead space on either side of the video. It could be that you accidentally changed the 'zoom to fill' setting, or something is off with your aspect ratio.
Hell yea another boring climbing episode! I couldn’t care less about people that do this to themselves. Just like everyone frozen on Everest, why tf do you think you need to climb a mountain 🤣
