Many people don't realise you do not need to purchase this adapter, first thing to try is clean the connectors with electrical cleaner and try to clean the points with a wire brush or connect and disconnect the terminal a few times and that will fix the issue. Dry connections cause this issue, and not just on seat occupancy sensors, also on boilers. Try before you buy and replace.

BMW E46 3-Series: To get through an MOT with a red airbag light, I put the key in position 2, and removed Fuse 10. No rear parking sensors, but she passed the MOT. After the MOT, I put the key in position 2, and replaced Fuse 10.
But how do you know that the airbag will still work?

My E87 has it in the passenger seat. Very frustrating but got it sorted at the end without using an emulator.

@@GeorgeAusters I'm not knowledgeable in ista, I had to go to someone who knows how to code. Paid a little more than a like but the headache is gone.
Please how did you fix it without emulator as my E87 also have airbag and seat belt light on and I was not involve in accident.
I have a 2005 1 series my airbag light is on, I know its been in an accident, the obd scanner I have does not flag up anything to do with the problem could this possibly mean my scanner is pants? or that the system has not been reset after issues have been fixed?
The driver seat sensor prevents it from being put in gear if not occupied.

Update I changed the seats and cleared the code, it’s been two weeks and the light hasn’t come back on

Great video, George. As a suggestion, for us in our 60s or beyond, would you ever consider doing a tutorial or two on how to download and use ISTA? Some of us older folks weren’t raised with computers. I have an iMac desktop and an HP laptop and several scan tools but I feel as if I’m missing out on ISTA as I have 3 BMWs and do most all of the service for them.

They occupancy sensors are a royal pain in the arse. Had to fit the bypass to my other half’s E87.
Certainly are a common problem!

You could always use the emulator as a fault finder, if that clears the fault then the seat must be at fault and not the car side of the plug?
That is essentially what it’s supposed to be for👍🏻

Thanks for all your videos George. As a proud new owner of a 2005 760Li, I would be grateful if you could steer me towards a scanner that is not so hard to get my head round as ISTA. I don't mind spending a couple of hundred quid on one and would like it to be able to (amongst others) reset the code you had on this video (because I have same issue) as well as change the many settings that do not appear in iDrive. Is there something out there that you can think of that would fit the bill please? Thanks again. Yes, I do realise I need to fix the problem first ;-)
Honestly you need ISTA D. It's not too complicated to do the basics!

I had the same problem (im from europe and my passanger seat sensor broke BMW E60). I bought a simmilar emulator. The warning light after reset went off. But that got me thinking. What if the car is now thinking that nobody is sitting there because the seat belt warning went off if there is somebody or not (i have a left hand drive BMW). In that case the airbags wont deploy. I got my ISTA and check the occupancy sensor and found out that passenger seat is unoccupied. In that case airbags wont deploy in crash (i think). So i researched about this sensor and found out that this is just a resistor. and when you seat on the seat resistance will change. Then i put the resistor and solder it in the place and it worked. In Ista it said that seat is occupied. And even the seat belt warning went off if there where nobody seating. The problem now is just that i have to buckle my passanger seat all the time but at lest airbas will deploy in crash and its safer. Just check in ISTA if the seat is occupied or not.

@@GeorgeAusters No it will deploy it just thinks the seat is always been sat on as the same thing what you do just coded out just have to keep the wire discounted like you have done
i did it on my e60 and e87 and my sisters e87 also coded out the seatbelt beeps so it doesnt annoy me lol
Put the car in D (with the parking brake on!) and jump out! The car *SHOULD* detect you leave the driver's seat and move to P. I suspect you've disabled a valuable safety feature with this bodge.

I couldn’t see myself ever needing this feature personally but I’ll give it a try when I’m able to drive it👍🏻
It must be why the driver's side has the sensor? Other BMWs don't have it as one would assume you always want the steering wheel bag to go off in a crash as there should be a driver there?
