Apparently it's being made by Sonic Team themselves intsead of being outsourced like Sonic Colors Ultimate was, so hopefully it's as good as it used to be.
Same dude. If we're being honest, the only reason this isn't just Shadow the Hedgehog 2 is because Sonic Generations is the most positively received Sonic game, so if the Shadow content somehow flops, at the least the critic scores can't go too low cause it's still also Sonic Generations, so Sega's using the remaster as kind of a back up just in case the new Shadow stuff doesn't work out. Honestly, it's a smart decision from a business standpoint, but a standalone Shadow game would've been so much better man. I feel like the story is going to be held back a lot because it has to work within Generations' story, which is kind of unfortunate, but that's just how it goes I guess. Can't have it all.

Hopefully Sega still has the source code for each of these games, to make the remaster process easier.
@nickfurlong3369 I don't think SEGA will ever port 06 or Shadow given how badly they were and still are seen as by the majority. The other three have a small possibility though, we can only hope.

@@TheTeknicalRonan Really, the same can be said for Heroes. It was never actually liked, it was always middling at best interms of reception, despite its sales.
@lpfan4491 Heroes seems a lot more mixed these days while 06 and Shadow are still mostly negative.
Here is what I think they should do
1. Update the original game to add things from shadow the hedgehog and newer sonic games as a dlc
2. They should port the game to newer consoles
3. They should add new features to the original game like a gateway into the dlc
And change the story to make the characters less like background characters like they did to others or all the characters in that game they were cheering sonic on but helping him only classic like wtf?!
4. Give it some new stages from Sonic's handheld history.

Sonic Heroes and Unleashed are in more need of remasters in my opinion since they are not easily accessible. Especially compared to Generations. Plus, Generations still holds up fine today graphically and mechanically. At least with Colors, that getting a remaster made sense considering it was originally exclusive to the Wii. (Granted Colors Ultimate is a rough remaster with questionable additions and bugs, but that’s not the point.) Unless SEGA adds substantial new content to it, a Generations remaster feels unnecessary in my opinion. I like Generations, but I’m not going to buy the same game twice with little to no changes.
Either way, I’m taking these leaks lightly until there’s more concrete proof. Or the game gets announced Wednesday at the Sony event.

Why even bring up the mechanics-aspect when Colors Ultimate didn't do anything with that besides slightly improving the jump and adding PHA? It kept everything else in the same suboptimal state, including quickstep on controlstick.
You will know if Unleashed deserved a remaster once you play it.
Heroes ist impossible neither doing nothing and releasing it with no upgrade or teaming uo with ea or getting a new engine
you're right about heroes but unleashed can be played on most modern consoles through game subscriptions or reverse compatibility. unleashed also holds up just fine graphically, it actually looks better than generations in that department. those 2 games are pretty equal in terms of accessibility with the only major difference being one game is on PC and the other isn't. "I’m not going to buy the same game twice with little to no changes" and you would for unleashed? yall let the dark age influence you too much

I feel like the reason they’re trying to remaster this game is because it’s the least controversial game for them to remaster
Generations could definitely benefit from having more stages since most of them are city themed, so I suggest they remake the 3DS stages and bosses and maybe add some additional stages and rival battles as well. Having a stage from both storybook games would be great, maybe a Rush Adventure stage. Give me a Blaze Rival battle on Dead Line Zone that ends in the iconic clash, a Jet Rival Battle where he rides on his board in a Sonic Riders stage, and given how Riders stages are already tracks that loop around it would be perfect for a rival battle. Not sure what else they could add honestly. Maybe some more statues? Maybe a Fang rival battle in a Triple Trouble stage? Having some more missions with more iconic characters like Mighty, Ray, Big, like come on it's Generations for Solaris' sake!

Imo Shadow the Hedgehog is the game in most need of a straight up remake. The game had good potential but the controls and 10 endings really drag it down.

Honestly, while Ik its very unlikely, I would love to see newer levels from Mania, Forces, and one based on one of the islands in Frontiers. Again, very unlikely, but it would be good to have that as additional content. It makes no sense storyline wise, but still.
Also, if this somehow happens, I NEED a Press Garden Act 1 remix.
If it is postgame-content, then that could solve the issue. The DLC pinball table didn't exactly make sense in-story either afterall.

from sega's perspective, a generations remaster makes the most sense of literally any sonic game released in the 2000s and 2010s.
it's not as old as some of the other games, has unanimous positive reception and therefore is likely to sell well and can carry the brand with it being an anniversary title. there is no way in hell sega would remaster 06, the storybook series, heroes, etc before generations. it's not available on playstation or switch which are some of sonic's biggest markets.
all of this to say generations is not undeserving of a remaster and makes total sense. why people are acting like this is a surprise is absolutely beyond me.
Heroes is coming up after, and THEN the Adventure games, so maybe by the end of the 2020s, we'll get them.
If this remake at the least has
1. New levels based on some game released after generations like frontiers, mania, and even forces. And older games that didn’t get repersentation, like Shadow the hedgehog and sonic racing.
2. More playable characters, like shadow, and maybe even classic and regular tails being playable.
3. Updated controls to better the experience, or something like that.

I think Generations is on the top of the remaster list as far as 3D Sonic goes. It's one of the most well regarded Sonic games ever.
There aren't really that many other choices to go with realistically. Sega is never touching Shadow, 06, Secret Ring or Black Knight again. There is Heroes and Unleashed but those aren't as well received and are definitely more in the limbo "maybe" list. The Adventure games are probably the only other games that are definitely on Sega's list.
Fun fact over in Japan Sonic Unleashed is called Sonic World Adventure and is considered the third game in the Adventures series. Also no one knows why the name was changed in the west edit: (everywhere that's not Japan ok)

Generations doesn’t even need a remaster and it’s runs smoothly and perfectly for the longest time meanwhile Unleashed has been on Xbox and PS3 forever by now.. I bet there’s so many people who haven’t played unleashed still to this day like me 💀

I think they're playing it safe and I don't think it's that bad of an idea in terms of advertising the series and building up the community through the films. It's the most well rounded good game and they want to increase accessibility through Nintendo switch and PS5 etc. Unfortunately while Unleashed is most desired by the bigger fans of the community including myself, it may be considered less relevant to the present overall collective media presentation and work plan. Point being I think they're focused on leading us by synchronicity with the films, Frontiers, and Superstars into adventure remakes, even a sequel, with Sonic Unleashed somewhere in between. But I see what you mean considering they already released Colors Ultimate so what's stopping them from doing unleashed. Btw it would be pretty amazing if we got an Unleashed remake though, where they kept the daytime levels generally the same apart from enhanced graphics built from scratch and just completely reimagined the Wherehog levels. Just a thought since it would fix the problem with the game.

SA1 and SA2 wasnt on there cuz they would have stole the spotlight. The trailer was called Sega Next Generation. Shadow is overshadowing Sonic in his own game Sonic Adventure 2 while hes not even playable in Gen. Sonic 3 movie as well. Generations was the start of "Green hill fatigue" and "Classic Sonic Fatigue"

green hill and classic sonic fatigue didn't kick in until sonic forces when sonic generations came we haven't seen classic sonic and Greenhill for a long time sonic generations was released in 2011 people was still recovering from sonic 06 and we haven't seen classic sonic since the 90s.
I’m really really concerned about this remastered happening. Generations is one of if not my favorite video game ever, It’s Was not only the first sonic game I’ve ever played but also the first game I’ve ever played on my PS3. It means a lot to me and without this game I wouldn’t know if I would have still liked video games the same way I do now. I Just hope Sega do it right for the next generation of gamers and not do another Colors ultimate situation again.

Easier game to remaster, famous already and well received, not a game that made the whole internet mock on sonic, was requested on switch (home console) a lot by now and since its an easier game to add shadow to it, why not?
also they are probably looking towards unleashed too.
I can honestly see Sega using this as a way to make sonic generations extremely monetized. What do I mean? Well, they could easily add in new zones, new characters, and challenges as DLC packs and Sonic fans would buy it of course. So to keep people happy they put in zones that never made it in such as Star Light Zone or my personal favorite Spring Yard Zone from Sonic 1. I think Sega is going to heavily push DLC passes to make easy money but I could be wrong.
Still waiting for a Remaster/Soft Remake of Sonic Riders Zero Gravity, I stand by that one.

Idk if im hyped for it or not. Id rather unleashed than Generations honestly. I already have Generations on my Steam account so i hope its something that isnt on steam yet but all evidence points to that itll be a generations remaster.
What would be awesome to see from this remaster, is for the zones to be multiplied. Like instead of one zone representing each game, why not three zones? Like in addition to Green Hill Zone, Sonic 1 could also be represented by Spring Yard Zone and Starlight Zone.

Personally, I'm really happy this could be happening! As someone who doesn't own an Xbox (I'm a Switch guy) or a PC, this is perfect for me. BUT I can totally agree that this game doesn't really need a remaster. Sega should've given us Unleashed. That game DESPERATELY needs a remaster. Much more than Generations. I'm also really worried that Sega's gonna pull a "Digital Deluxe" on us again. Seriously, this trend that Sega has of "If you pay ten extra bucks, you get a skin!" is getting pretty ridiculous.

I don't think Generations is a bad game at all, but it's the last Modern Sonic game I expected to get a remaster. I thought we were going to get remakes of the Adventure games because of the very likelihood of the 3rd movie heavily referencing them, but this Generations remaster just sounds like a safe move despite the fact that some of the stages in Generations are from older Sonic games that should be remade for newer generations.
First of all, Generations is an ANNERVERSARY TITLE! Who TF remakes an annerversary game!? Remastering it would only make it less special.
Second of all, if Sega delists the original Generations for this, the modding scene will come a halt and I will be pissed.

I respectfully disagree. I’m beyond excited for a Sonic Generations Remaster! I primarily play games on my PS5 and Switch so having the game be available on those platforms would be more accessible for me personally. I do have a laptop that can somewhat run the game, but on that PC, my controller sometimes disconnects, the framerate drops, and I’ve experienced some crashes as well. It’s not a fun experience and it would be nice to streamline my gaming experience by playing the game on console. From my perspective, I’m happy I can hopefully play Generations without encountering these small issues.
I agree, this game did not need a remaster. At all. The adventure games are sitting right there in front of their faces and Shadow is going to be in Sonic Movie 3! Why don't they remaster the very game Shadow made his debut in? It just doesn't make any sense to me.

Sega knows Generations is one of the most well received Sonic games, so they are pretty much guaranteed to sell well. I feel like the fanbase really wants to see remasters of other games in the series that had a lot more issues that could really do with some much needed changes and updates. Furthermore, there are so many older Sonic games that are super hard to access for players without a PC or emulation that should also be ported to the newer stuff. However, I am excited to see a new generation (pun not intended) of Sonic fans to get their hands on this absolutely fantastic game.

I always liked the Idea of them making new levels for generations based on games that came after it originally released like my Ideas were:
Desert Ruins From Lost World
Studiopolis From Mania
Sunset Heights From Forces
and Kronos Island From Frontiers
Even though it looks like a good time to remake the Adventure games because the third movie will have elements from the sequel one adapted into it, what they are doing does make more sense because they still have to prove that they can make good quality remakes before attempting to remake the Adventure games. From how beloved those 2 3D games are, it's 100% obvious that the fanbase would explode with major online criticism if remakes of them get released as poor quality ones. (the critics likely would too.) So I think that SEGA is currently too scared to produce remakes of SA1 & SA2, and that they likely won't do that until they can have enough trust from the fans.
Since you mentioned the Adventure games, those realistically should've been remastered since the third Sonic movie is gonna be a retelling of SA2 and could've been a way to generate hype for said movie.

Well, Sonic Unleashed had terrible reception by critics and fans when it came out, Sonic Generations was lovedy by everybody, nothing weird that they decided to remaster that one instead of Unleashed.
If this turns out to be real, then this is proof that SEGA is the Cartoon Network of the video game industry. They want to remaster games that don't need one rather than games that do, and the remasters are released half-baked and just plain terrible.
Sonic Generations does not, I repeat, does *NOT* need a remaster, especially after Colors Ultimate.
Sonic Generations has aged well, so it doesn’t need to be remastered. Maybe they’re addressing one of the game’s only problems and adding more content.
Sonic generations has to be the best… not story wise BUT it’s such a beautiful reimagining of the classic levels

Tbh I don't even care about the remaster, I just want the Shadow portion of this.
Honestly I don't dislike the idea but given SEGA's troubles with remasters, I'm nervous. Please just refine the textures, add some skins, and call it a day DO NOT change the controls.
I think the buggiest Sonic Games deserve a remaster the most...
Especially Sonic 06. Just re-release it with many bugs fixed, pls.
Tbh selfishly, I’m excited for this because I can let’s play it on my channel if it’s on ps5. Generations is my favourite 3D sonic title, with adventure 1 a close second.
My only way of playing generations was on the ps+ subscription service, and now it got taken off, so I’m fine with generations getting a remaster
I sincerely hope that this just turns out to be fake and we were all being hyperbolic...

I think its a brilliant idea if they can do DLCs for it like emerald coast eggman land even stages from forces think about it
People can play sonic generations on xbox and pc , but what about Ps5 ? Yeah thats reason why Sega should remaster this game and perfect time is in Playstation Event
Yeah, that's exactly what I'm saying. I have a PS4, but there's no Sonic Generations or Sonic Unleashed for this Console.

I do agree that Unleashed needs a remaster more. But besides that, the reason why I'm not super excited for Generations Ultimate, even if the original was one of my favourite games, is because of my absolute distrust of Sega. I fear they'll make Generations look and play worse than the original as well as add a ton of unnecessary stuff.
sega needs to cut with the "constant nostalgia" bullshit. i thought they learned their lesson with frontiers. nobody really gives a crap about classic sonic anymore.
Man, I want my sonic unleashed remaster
Unleashed is extremely unpopular, so that's never gonna happen. I know it has some fans, but the mainstream hate it and it's probably the most infamous game in the series aside from Sonic '06.
I hope there is an option to turn off the "that looks like a homing shot" and "be careful sonic" during the final boss.

Gens DOES NOT need a remaster.
The game is fine as is in this point in time. Even if you want the game to be on switch and PS5, a regular port would be fine.
But I swear to god, if they add new levels from after 2011, that would be stupid.
It would be like a a guy celebrating his 20th birthday when he's 25. Does that make sense? Hell no.
Other games deserve remasters over Gens. Unleashed and the storybook games to name a few.
I'm not big into the idea of a Sonic Generations remaster, mostly cause I'm not the biggest fan of that one, but also cause Sonic Unleashed isn't on PC yet. Gotta give respect to the GOAT(and upgrade the drift and add a free moving camera to the Werehog stages)
Rather than Generations, they should've also remasters games like The Adventure series, Heroes (despite the mixed reception), Shadow (2005) (despite the negative reception), Unleashed. Games i would not wanna remaster is 06. I would also like to include other established games like The Riders series (I don't know if that's gonna include Free Riders, unless they improve the controls as well as dialogue). Any thoughts?
