My 1995 850 wagon was in the shop for 14 years on a lift. After we pulled it down I acid washed the tank, replaced the fuel pump, injectors and fuel filter and it started right up. It’s been running fine now for 2 years. I’ve owned it since new.
I was always taught to connect the live on a battery, then the negative to stop arcing. I always pre fill the new oil filter with new oil to speed up oil circulation on start, to stop metal grinding for the first few engine revolutions as the filter fills.
Absolutely right about connecting the positive side first on the battery. Mistakes happen I guess😅 we'll pay more attention the next time😊 I was tought filling the oil filter does not really matter as there is still oil left in the engine. It does make sense though. Might as well do that the next time. Thanks 🙂
pre filling the filter is recommended against in most manuals because of introducing a higher risk of contamination of particulates to the engine, lies maybe; but its recomended against
I have a 855, had it for 5 years, been sitting in my yard for 3 years on a gravel patch, i have too many cars so i was thinking of scrapping it, but.. I chucked a battery in it and couple of liters of fuel, connected the fuel pump. It started right up and i drove it to another part of the yard like it was nothing, drives smooth even if the gear box oil cooler was not connected nor the radiator, so it got me thinking i will not scrap it before i check the rust underneath it. It's basically 98% rust free. I will just get a new radiator, new belts, plugs, oil and filters then hose it down.
Nice to hear someone in Canada likes what we're doing and good luck with your own 850! If there is anything we can help you with, please let us know ;) we're very interested in your 850 aswell so hopefully we can see some pictures or videos of it in the near future :)
@@MusTRitch Turned out the car was way too far gone. Did not take it, mold, Rats had been under the hood, parked for over ten years. Too much to list which also discouraged me. Sticking to my two 240 wagons for now
What a disappointment but completely understandable. Rats under hood will no doubt have caused to many electrical issues. But owning 2 240's ain't no bad deal at all :)
Thanks, and we're glad you like our project! Due to back problems I had to undergo surgery but I'm working hard to recover so expect more video's in the coming months :)
Lol, good question. Maybe it has something to do with Volvo taking over the passenger car division from DAF in 1975, and therefore we feel some kind of "dutch" connection with Volvo. Other than that, I have no idea 🤪
I just looked at one of these an awd wagon and wouod start and stall right away swapped fuel pump relay and ran fine. Relay box was full of water and relay was corroded. They left the hood partially popped for a year and hood is what seals around fuse/relay box.
@@MusTRitch No problem! I waited way too many years before installing my own. When you take out the original from the 850 you will notice a thick plastic semi circle that was added by manufacture. Possibly to tame the reponse for it's initial "target audience" back in the 1990's. My wagon is a 5 speed manual and it did make a small but well noticed difference.(along with new exhaust)
Yeah, I noticed that thick plastic thing. Maybe the reason for it is indeed the target audience at the time but still I wonder why... lol. Good to hear you also drive a 5 speed manual and may I ask, is it a 20v 2.5? And again, thanks for the advice and interest in our project. Much apriciated!
@@MusTRitch Check rod bearings, my 410.000Km T5 Aut 300euro had rod bearings in bad condition. Looking the engine oil that 850 had best days years ago.
Will definitely check those, thanks for that! The engine oil was 7 years old (maybe even more as we miss 3 years of service documentation before that) and was replaced once just to see if the engine will still run. Before we take the 850 out for it's first drive (hopefully next year) we will flush the engine and change the engine oil again one or twice.
@@MusTRitch I always fill the filter with oil until it is soaked. This one was hanging downwards and its possible to fully fill it . when it turns it won't spill. When starting the engine and pump, the oil will go into the system earlier. Of course, I also use lubricating the gasket.
@@MusTRitch my english is bad sorry. are you planning to clean the engine's petrol injectors. e.g. brake cleaner? fuel could destroy rubber hoses, but time without use can scatter them and sprinkle impurities (rubber dust) into the injectors, partly blocking the injection holes. I had this on a 1.6 8V VW
Hm, that is what our local car parts dealer recommended. We are going to change the oil again before applying for the legal road test and we'll definitely look into that! Thanks!

The 850's got a steel tank on them as never had a 850 only Phase 1 V70's and they plastic with steel straps...
Congratulations on the initiative with the car and the documentation of the restoration

It really doesn't matter. If it's going to arc, it will regardless of which side is connected first.

Built like a tank. Definitely worth saving!😄
Hi. Nice! In my V70 1997, before I start the engine, I have to wait until the SRS light switches off.
Smooth running!!!👍 Great engine!!👌🙂
Nice car, I bought myself the same one, I'm restoring it. Good luck with your work!
Thanks, and the best of luck with your own restoration!
Leuk om zien vanuit Canada, picking one up next week, neglected in need of some sweet lovin. Helpful en toepasselijk!

Nice videos, tho i think vaccum cleaning the air filter box before putting the new filter in would be a good idea.
You are right. The excitement got the better of us. We made some more little mistakes like connecting the positive side to the battery first😅
It's so interesting. Cheer up!
We are very excited! But you are right that we might not show that enough in our video's so thats something we need to address :)

I could be wrong, but most of the 850’s were produced in Belgium :)
Had to look that up and they were indeed manufactured in Belgium🙂

Noticed after this is na not the turbo model. I was referring to a 98 xc70. Had the 2.4 lpt turbo 190hp.
klinkt mooi net ingelopen zo te horen :)

Hey, dankje! Wanneer we vragen hebben zullen we die zeker stellen :) Uiteraard als er vragen aan ons zijn dan horen wij het ook graag!

Nice video, but you but the wrong oil. The old volvo's wish 10w40 oil. All other things are top. 👌
Now go ahead and put in a 960 throttle body plate as soon as you can find one. Enjoy the extra response!
I looked it up and it seems like an easy and well worth it upgrade. We added it on our upgrades list, thanks!

Did it on My V70 T5 P80 and it went from shit of a shovel to F**king shit off a shovel.😂😂😂
Can I ask you something, what is it that you brush on the spark plug and what is it for?
Hey, we put copper grease on the spark plugs so it's easier to remove them in the future.

Jazekers, dankje!
Where is all the CNG? gas parts that was fitted to this car.
The tank. is missing. a lot of extra wires in the back and the extra holes on the intake.
It was removed when our brother imported it into belgium. We plan to remove every trace of the lpg system because we won't put it back.
Only 400 000 kilometers, almost brand new!
Haha, you are totally right! He should be able to drive us around for many more years to come after we finish the restoration ;)
