Common issue on any Mazda with the same key fob. Press 4 times and hold down on the fifth time. Hope this helps everyone with a mazda with key fob issues

From my understanding, it's a 'Battery Save Mode/Sleep Mode' function on the key fob that's causing the issue. To switch between the battery save mode, and the active state: Press the lock button 4 times, and once you see the light stay on (above the lock button), press & hold the button until the light goes away then release. When the key fob is in the battery save mode, keyless entry and the push-start will not work. (Lock & Unlock should still work though) I believe it turns off the constant signal the key fob emits, which then the key's battery isn't being drained as much. So if you have two key fobs, the one you're not using as often could be in the battery safe mode. Once the active one dies on you, that second won't die on you soon after. How to tell when you're in the battery save mode, or in the active state? Active State - the light will blink when you hit the lock or unlock buttons. Battery Save Mode - the light does not appear when pressing the same buttons.
WOWWWWW!!!!! I got the key fob error yesterday, changed the battery & it still wasnt being detected. I called the Browns Mazda in Chantilly, VA & was told it would cost me $180 to reprogram my key fob😡 I hopped on youtube, found your video & the problem was fixed in 2 minutes!! THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!
You’re the best!! I was making the “trick” of lowering all of the windows at once, then the fob worked no more, I even put a new battery on even if I received the car from the dealership 3 weeks ago 😂 and nothing… followed your steps and worked just fine, huge thank you!5
Worked perfectly! I had two shops tell me to go to Mazda and pay $180 +. Neither of them knew about this issue, but you did! Thanks for saving me money!
Bro! THANK YOU!!! I just bought a 2021 CX-5 Grand Touring and I was having this same issue even after the dealership changed the battery for me. I thought the fob was bad. Found this video and it literally took me less than a minute to fix the issue! 🎉🎉🎉 I can imagine that this is saving many Mazda owners some extra $$$$ Appreciate ya!!!
Man, thank you so much. I was worried because i droped my keys right before this happened but i changed the battery and did this and everything worked just fine. May God bless you.
I was having the same problem after changing the battery on my key fob for my Mazda 6. I was thinking of going to the Mazda Dealer to fix the problem. Decided to google and came across your video. It was simple, straight forward and definitely worked! Appreciate you for this video! Saved me a long trip. Lol
OMFGoodness, thank you! Today I just found out the open window trick with unlock button on the fob(hold on the 4th quick clicks).. I tried closing the winders with the lock button and accidentally entered the fob into safe battery mode or w/e it is.. fob also has a new battery now lol
My 2021Mazda 3 had this issue. The dashboard prompts you to hold the end of the key fob near the start button. Once I did that the car immediately started right up. I don't know if that was a permanent fix or I will need to do the sequence in this video. But this video is great as it informs me what to do next if the car once again won't respond so I don't have to keep holding up the key fob to the start button.
Hi there! I was wondering if you could clarify whether the display is supposed to illuminate when the brake pedal is pressed? I could have sworn it did and after getting body work done it no longer is. They also claim that certain sounds due to sensors being triggered might have gotten reset when the battery was replaced, and even though my steering wheel ALWAYS vibrates when lane keep detected I departed a lane, they also claimed that wasn’t something they would have turned off either. Going to a Mazda dealer to pay to have a scan done to make sure nothing is else is still broken to prove to them they’re still dropping the ball after taking my car to the body shop twice and still experiencing issues, but thought it would be helpful to ask you as well. For context: 2021 CX5
I have a question: last year (two times), my car wouldn't start. We switched the battery to a new one, and it happended again. For some reason it happened when the car was one a really slow speed (like traffic jams or going of a traffic light) and it takes like an hour for it to function again. Could it be related to not recognizing the key or because of i-stop function for example? I appreciate if someone could give some insights on this, thank you
Seemed to have a little trouble with counting. Public school guy, maybe? Just kidding. Great tip. Although I have never had this problem with my 2013, 2018, or 2023 CX-5s.
I didn't see anything turn red, it looked like you pressed it way more then 3 times. I don't get it. After i press it twice it automatically beeps from seeing the car alarm after 2 pressed so I'm not sure what your doing differently. Plus even though mine beeps it still doesn't recognize my fob battery was changed it still says low battery or not detected
It didn't work on my 2023 cx-5. I pressed the lock button 3 times in a row and then four times, but all it did was make my car beep and upset my neighbors from me trying constantly for 5 minutes. is there another way to reprogram my fob to work again?
It happened to me after 4 hours from I received the car I was extremely depressed and almost died from fear that brand new car need to go back to dealer and manual says NOTHING ABOUT THIS

Tyvm
This just help!! Mazda 2017 touring! Is this a permanent fix?
Worked out well, thank you so much!!!
thanks, i have a rental with this issue. just press it four times, by the way
Does not work with my 2019 MX-5. The red light flashes with every press.
After doing it,did the problema comes back again?

Tanks
mine isn't working i can't start the car but i cant unlock/lock it.
Edit: i tried holding down the lock/unlock buttons at the same time and it worked!
Thank you so much man. wth is this shitty system
Wat about a 2018?
This doesn’t work on an older model. I have a2015 Mazda 3 and it doesn’t work
It didn't work on my 2023 cx-5. I pressed the lock button 3 times in a row and then four times, but all it did was make my car beep and upset my neighbors from me trying constantly for 5 minutes. is there another way to reprogram my fob to work again?
it worked first try for mine i think you were just doing it wrong😕
Didn't work on my 2021 cx gt as well
The battery is either low or it’s in battery saver mode
use that new generator key you have and it will work
Press the lock button 4 times and when you see the red light press it a 5th time and hold
Lol thank you
It happened to me after 4 hours from I received the car I was extremely depressed and almost died from fear that brand new car need to go back to dealer and manual says NOTHING ABOUT THIS
Brother fuck yeah worked hahahaha❤❤❤❤❤ Mazda 6
My 2012 doesn't do that😢
After several tries, still no luck. Not sure if i need a new key fob replacement for my CX-5 2020. Also noticed the little red dot does not turn on.😓
Mine doesn’t even have the screen on
it's the battery saving mode
I’m trying really hard to identify a scenario in which that would be a helpful feature.
Don't be an idiot like me. Make sure that the car is in park. Or it will not start
