I'm almost a month post op. Surgery was on 4/6/2021. I just wanted to leave my own experience and a positive comment for the people going through this procedure. I had a closed hemorrhoidectomy on three decent size internal hemorrhoids grade 3 done by a colon and rectal surgeon. The hemorrhoids would always protrude out whenever I had a bowel movement and this lasted for at least 3 years. I did bleed but it wasn't often. I probably bleed from the hemorrhoids once every 2 months. So the bleeding wasn't the biggest issue dealing with the hems, it was more so of not being able to do anything for the rest of the day if I did have a bowel movement that day. I would have to sit down on a chair with a pillow to help push the hems back in and this would last for at least a hour or two. Quality of my life was not the best for the past couple of years so I decided to get the surgery done. Some Pro-tips that were also mentioned from this video: Do not over use pain meds(will cause constipation) , take a stool softener twice a day(COLACE docusate sodium 100mg is the one I'm using), drink Metamucil psyllium husk at least once every other day, get a lot of rest the first 2 weeks after surgery, buy a squatty potty(will help you have a bowel movement easier) , do a sitz bath after every bowel movement you have(you can also buy a sitz bath bowl off amazon for cheap and adding espom salt to the hot water helps a lot), Eat a high fiber diet with healthy soups(try to avoid meat and alcohol for the first two weeks) and the last most important tip is to DRINK A LOT OF WATER! I drink at least 100oz of water a day and it helped me so much so I would recommend drinking as much water as you can with all the fruits and vegetables so you can have that nice long soft stool. Its the type of stool you want honestly for the rest of your life if you don't want hemorrhoids again. 1st week: Pain level around a good 7.5 out of 10. I took oxycodone for the first 4 days because I couldn't tolerate the pain. It will make you constipated so I took it every 12 hours instead of the recommended 6 hours. I had my first bowel movement three days later on 4/09 and it was the most intense and short pain I went through. It will hurt , but you must go through this part because you don't want your stool to dry up and become harder to push out. You will experience blood and discharge so always have a pad between your booty cheeks so you don't get your clothes dirty. (I use the band-aid hurt free non stick pads, very comfortable and it doesn't feel like anything is down there). 2nd week: The first 4 days of the 2nd week the pain level was around 5.5 out of 10, but mid way through the 2nd week the pain went down to a 4. I stopped taking the pain meds after the 4th day post op so for some people still taking pain meds through the 2nd week your pain shouldn't be as high unless you got a more serious surgery done. I started walking around the house to get some exercise in. A 15 minute walk every three hours helps a lot. I did end up calling my surgeon , because I had black blood coming out of my anus whenever I had a stool movement. He explained to me that it was old blood piled up from the surgery area and that it was normal. This only lasted about a week so if you constantly have blood in excessive amounts coming out whether its dripping down your leg or in every bowel movement, call your doctor. Every time I did have a bowel movement I felt a swollen mass which I thought was hemorrhoids again but its just your anus reacting to the stiches and the surgery area becoming tender. It almost goes away once you hop in the shower and let the hot water take care of its business. 3rd week: Things are starting to get a lot better. The pain is almost all gone. Even when I have a bowel movement , there is almost no pain. I still have a bit of discharge so I still wear my pads but no blood on my stool. The blood stopped so I'm guessing the stitches have all healed up too. Started moving around more , even played some pickup basketball games at the park. I would recommend to start exercising more often once your pain is gone. 4th week: I feel great. I think the procedure was a success. Still taking the stool softeners with the Metamucil fiber supplement. Overview: Just keep drinking a lot of water and try to achieve the softest most healthy looking stool. You will bleed and have foul smelling discharge but its just your body healing itself up. Also if you drink or smoke, I would stop before the procedure and at least for a month or two post OP. Exercising and moving around as soon as you can is mandatory too. Hot showers and sitz baths are also mandatory. They will help relieve pain so much. All of these tips have helped me recover from this surgery and now I feel amazing. I can live and travel without worrying about my next bowel movement. I highly recommend the closed hemorrhoidectomy if you are dealing a similar situation as mine. BTW this video helped me go through my surgery so I decided to at least make a comment to anyone else who needs help. YOU GOT THIS!!!! FOR YOUR PRECIOUS BOOTY YOU CAN DO IT!
This video and comment are so helpful to know what I should expect and do in the next few weeks. I’m 4 days post op and still in a decent amount of pain so thank you for your insight I’m going to try to do all that you mentioned because I just want to feel better💓
Hello. I done my surgery on june 12. Is it normal after bowel you notice some kind of hemorrhoid on your anus. Im scared that my hemorrhoid is not gone and wasted my money.
Mine was 3 out 6 hemorrhoid was removed because if he remove all its hard for me to poop. I still bleed after poop even its now 2 months also i still notice some hemorrhoid. This problem bothers me. Hope this is normal.
I went into this surgery blind and holy crap was it painful!!!!! I had 3 stage 4 external hemorrhoids and 2 internal hemorrhoids that were bleeding excessively when I would normally go to the restroom. I finally went to the Dr and he recommended this surgery and OMG!! The bowel movement was ridiculously painful!! I was crying like a baby for the first 5 bowel movements I had, however I will say that now that I am in week 2 it does get better. You just need to get over the first couple bowel movements and the pain will gradually go away. Even though while I was in pain I kept saying “I regret getting this surgery.” I am actually glad that I did get it because I don’t have to worry about the hemmys ruining my plans.
I’m about a month out from my surgery and it really is a surgery that makes you think long and hard about how to never get them again. The best thing to do is keep the stools soft as possible for the rest of one’s life. I can tell you all that make sure you keep the area clean after every number 2 and this is done with a good shower head that can separate from the main shower or take some sit baths you’ll get through it but it does hurt for a few weeks God Bless you all.
On day 6 of recovery now. They kept me from doing so many things I love. Dealt with them since I was 26. It took 15 years to get the nerve to get surgery. Thank you for sharing. recovery is BRUTAL!!!
Thank you for sharing your experience. I’ve suffered from this for 27 years. I’ve missed so many events, so many work days, family functions, vacations, etc., because of hemorrhoids and planning my life around them, and it go so bad -prolapsed- that I had to to the ER. I was terrified, but I finally had a hemorrhoidectomy just 3 days ago. When the anesthesia wore off it was the worst pain I have ever felt in my life. I was in tears begging for pain medication. The first 24 hours were the worst for me. Now, 3 days later, I’m finally stable enough to go home, and I can already tell that this will be life changing for me and my family. I’ll be able to poop without the fear of being bedridden for the day because of a hemorrhoid. As I continue to heal, I’ll be able to live a normal, active life again. It was both the scariest and best decision. Thank you for letting me share some of my story, and blessings to you!
How's your recovery so far? I'm 3 days post op after about 11 years... this past year became debilitating, couldn't work or would be bed ridden after using the bathroom. So I def feel your pain! Right now I'm tryna figure out how to pass my first stool, a lot of pressure but I think I'm constipated from the percocet, even after taking colace. Hope you're coming along well and any advice would be greatly appreciated! Godspeed 🙏🏼🍻
Hi thank you so much for the info, I'm having surgery soon, quite nervous but I've had hemmorroids for about 10 years and class 4 hemmorroids for 2 years now and I'm at the point where surgery is the only option, every time I have a bowel movement my heart drops. Nobody should live with a fear to poop. Thank you once again.
@@carter394able I had a rubber band ligation for 4 internal hemmorroids. The pain was extreme for about a week. I'm much better now. Unfortunately I have one pesky external hemmorroid causing a lot of discomfort. Hopefully I'm getting it removed soon. All the best with your recovery.
I adore you! Thank you for making this video. You’re so beautiful. I’ve been suffering for 2 years and I can’t do this anymore. I was told no, now I’m seeing a doctor who can help me. I’ll keep trying because I can’t keep missing out on life 😢
She is spot on....im 4 days post surgery...this is ridiculously painful.....using the bathroom is beyond horrible......the pain is insanely crazy.....but my hemorrhoids were beyond bad.....i had them for 20 plus years and they had begun bleeding to where i had to have a blood transfusion.......im glad i had the surgery and cant wait for full recovery, but at this moment this pain is beyond your wildest thoughts!!!!!!!!!!
Same I wound up having low iron because I’d bleed every time I’d poop. And I wound up having a heart murmur due to loss of blood. I’m currently on day 9 and slowly it’s getting better but trust me this surgery in post op is truly the king of the devil
Just has the surgery two days ago. Today extreme pain. I have no regrets about the surgery is and lived with seriously bleeding for years. I just hope this unbearable pain subsides soon. Thank you for your video!
@@abhinavmathur6072 three weeks was starting to get better. Been six weeks now and 💯 percent better. I have to watch my diet because I now get constipated easily, mainly deep fried foods.
Thank u so much for sharing I’m 4 days post op. I too had dealt with this ten years until the last flare up! I was so done. I feel you on it impeding of your daily life. Believe it or not I was excited to have this procedure because it’d been a very long time coming. I’m getting better daily.
Girrrrrl a 20!!! I’m fives weeks post op and healed I assume because there’s NO more pain but honey chile I went through it!!! My surgeon had me under the impression that there would be discomfort,,, but it was pain.
Thank you so much for sharing. I really appreciate your honestly and upfront-ness about it. ❤️🙏🏼 I am calling the surgeon today! I was just referred. I am a little scared but I am ready to face quality of life. Thank you once again. ❤️🙏🏼
Hey everyone! Currently on day 3 post-op of my Hemorrhoidectomy! And just had a small bowel movement more like chunks but hey it counts! Not taking pain meds besides some Valium and Motrin 800. Being a OR nurse myself I unfortunately know all the bad things that come along with this procedure. Just have positive thoughts and I promise it will be worth it! Short term pain for long term gain! Good luck to my fellow people!
@@Quinn94443 I had complications 9 days after my procedure, I started to hemorrhage, I was bleeding out clots didn’t last long though. I am 6 months post op and it feels perfectly fine, no more random spotting of some blood and no pain, yet I rarely had pain even after the procedure. Very fortunate!
@@rangerover885hi What were ur symptoms that made you go thru hemorrhoid surgery? i’ve got mild to moderate pain when i sit for long time and burning don’t know if i shud go thru this . ;(
@@peterobrien2537 hey there, I had both internal and external ones, so it would be uncomfortable to sit or they would bleed at times. I had them for years before doing anything about it. It depends on each person and their comfort level to wether have the surgery or not. My recovery was honestly not bad and luckily till this day I have had no issues. I would contact a colorectal surgeon to get their opinion but at the end of the day it’s your choice!
Yes, first movevent moved the earth. The second moved the universe. Im now 3 days post op. Thank you so much for all the honesty and all who comment, I can make it through this knowing I'm not alone.

I'm gonna be requesting this surgery as soon as I'm done with pregnancy. For the record, I didn't get hemorrhoids with pregnancy, I had them way before. They are so much more severe now than ever. I am miserable. The surgery has got to help more.
7 days post op today, July 30th was my surgery. I watched numerous videos & read countless forums and still had this surgery. This will test your patience and your gangster. The pain is immeasurable at times. Going to the bathroom feels like you’re going thru labor & im a man. I started late on the miralax and fiber. I was more concerned with the inflammation. Less swelling = easier BM. So I thought. Lol. IT HURTS! Im ready to be over the hump. The narcotics are basically a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” situation.
@AleOmalley Thanks for the video. I am at day 8 post-op today. I had an external hemorrhoidectomy. Yep, the doctor was accurate when he said the surgery will be very painful. Long story short, thanks for the video, the tips and info was helpful to me. On a side note, I also deal with IBS. I've tried eliminating all types of foods and slowly adding back in, but I haven't figured out the triggers yet. IBS is annoying and when it's bad it has a definite impact on quality of life. Have you figured out anything helpful for your IBS?
Hi Brian! I just had a flare up myself it was with a lot of acid actually and alcohol! I don’t drink much to begin with but I feel it irritated when I do and also chocolate too! I strongly recommend writing down what you eat and testing it and noting what hurts… I know it’s uncomfortable but it DOES help and that way you can either risk it per say or you know to avoid it! Every once in a while though, do it! Unless it hurts terribly of course but don’t forget to enjoy life, it’s fun moments and yummy foods too!! 🙏🏼❤️
I feel your pain. I’m on day 7 today. I had 3 internal grade 3 hemorrhoids, a posterior fissure and they cut the internal sphincter some. Day 3-6 have been the worst. Finally today feel some relief. But then again I’m still on meds, which I’m now out of now. Sitz bath and lidocaine help too
Going Tru my day 4 after surgery but looking forward to being able to get back to live a life not worrying about how long it takes to for the swelling of my hemariods to be over with so I can get back to work, thanks for sharing your story
Thank you for sharing!! I only started doing research after the op!! Had no idea I was going to be a lamb to the slaughter!! Had no idea of after op treatment. Went to the loo for the first time 5 days after the op. Never experienced that level of pain!! Had been taking 6 painkillers a day and did not realize they cause constipation!!
@Mr John I would look into the laser surgery option if I was you. The worst day was the day I had to pass my first stool! If I had eaten soft foods, and started taking mild laxatives immediately after the op, I might have been way better off. They pain killer tabs the doc gave me were the type that causes constipation!
Thank you so much for all the information. I am fifty years old and have had hemorrhoids for eighteen years ( since giving birth to my daughter). I could always feel them, but they never caused me any pain or discomfort. UNTIL...a few days before Christmas. For some reason they became so swollen and I had the worst pain. I was crying and not able to do anything. This lasted off and on for almost two weeks. Then, they seemed to get better for about a month. Now, they are back again, although not as painful. I went to see a colorectal surgeon last week and he said I have internal and external hemorrhoids and he recommended the surgery. And I was also told that the hemorrhoids in December were probably thrombosed. Did you ever have thrombosed hemorrhoids? I'm just wondering if the pain fro the surgery could be compared to that. Also, I'm very afraid of the surgery but I'm also depressed thinking about living with not knowing if I'm going to have a bad hemorrhoid day.
Whenever I have an external hemorrhoid it always becomes thrombosed for me. Some people are just like that. I’m dealing with my 4th ever one. It has grown to a pretty big size. I can’t wait for it to pop, I’m too afraid to play doctor and do it myself. I had mine lanced once by a doctor, it didn’t help much in my case. All I know to do is just use every cream and painkiller in the book, you need them all. I’m afraid I might have to have this surgery someday.
I’m on my 4 day after surgery and I haven’t had a bowel movement yet but I can say the pain is indescribable, I already got involved in accidents that I broke several ribs, and other things but this one I’m start thinking the cure is worse than the disease itself
I am 5 days post op and feeling better. It sure is brutal! I suffered from hemorrhoids since I was in diapers and just dealt with the pain cause I thought I had to. Doctor was supposed to band them, but once he got in there he said I had 3 Grade III that had to come out. It sure has been a journey. I appreciate your video and the comments. It helps.
Thanks for the video and your tips. I am 5 days post op. Have been following all that you suggest. Your suggestions have been very helpful. I am a doctor and After this procedure I have realized how painful ano-rectal procedure can be. Will never ever take pain lightly on my patients. My colorectal surgeon did not discuss with me half of what you talk about in this video. Thank you. I am curious how you feel 6 months after the procedure.
@Mr John The pain was bad the first week although bearable with the right meds. By second week I was back to most activity and back to work by the third week. Complete recovery in 3-4 months. After the first week pain had essentially subsided. Worth getting it done.
@Mr John you can have almost anything. Lot of fiber in diet. Plenty of water. At least 2-1/2 to 3 lts of water. Need keep stool soft. First BM will be painful. Take miralax or any other stool softener daily. I stayed on liquid for 2 days.
@Mr John no reason not to eat to avoid BM. The first2-3 BM will be painful but gets better. Take hot showers after BM, can apply lidocaine cream to help numb area.
Ms. Alejandra Rodriquez, I myself started with blood Oct 30th, 2019. It started regularly then it stopped and became every 2 to 3 months of blood and then coming out every time I went to the toilet. March 26th, 2024 colonoscopy, doctor found hemorrhoids. Since I was told surgery will be need, I had been doing research and video watching. I now know that I haven't been coming out when I go, the hemorrhoid slips out. I have seen different videos on different procedures on removing hemorrhoids but I know that they all hurt afterwards. I am dreading the procedure coming May 1st. They are giving me 4 weeks off from work. I just hope I'll be able to bare the pain until I am all healed up. Like everyone else, I know that I must change my diet. It too will be a difficult journey. At 39, it is time to do so. Much love to you and everyone else who had the surgery and posted comments. ❤
Hi i hope that you have already recover from aftermath of surgery. How are you now and tell some thing about it please. I am also 37 and waiting for my 3grade internal hemorroide surgery.
@@bake4 hi there. May 29th. I'm all good. Going back to work May 30th. It actually wasn't bad. Pain was manageable even without pain meds. I tried not to rely on the pills because it was opioid pain medication. I made it and glad I don't have to worry about blood or my hemorrhoid popping out every time I go 💩. Only thing that's uncomfortable is trying not to clench your ass. Especially since they pack you with gauze. 😫 I only had 1 though. I hope all goes well for you.
Just watched the surgery and oh my. You’re so optimistic. I’m literally terrified for having to go through this some day. Currently on the toilet right now struggling. So much pain. Damn you make this sound fucking horrible.
Thanks for sharing. I'm day 1 post-op and I'm scared of the first bowel movement to come. The tears are real. Also researching on other high fiber foods
@Mr John Overall, the quality of life does change dramatically after you fully heal from the operation. The pain is at its peak in the first 10 - 15 days. It took me 6 -8 weeks to fully recover. I'm not familiar with laser surgery so I can't compare. I have no regrets going through the procedure. Hope this helps.
I had to wait 5 days for my first bowel movement. Needless to say, I almost passed out from the pain of going. I took laxatives to try to keep my stomach going, but what happened was that there was a slow moving "thing" in front of all the laxatives. After 5 days there was an explosion of epic proportions using an enema, through a sensitive opening that had just been cut open and stitched. Still, if this cures me after years of suffering immense pain, bleeding, discomfort, and ruined opportunities, I can't say that I would do it again right now, but this pain now after two weeks exactly is manageable considering that I might soon actually be able to leave the house. I can't believe that this might actually be happening, and I literally am expecting the world to end rather than living a normal life.
Major question. I'm like almost 6 days post-op. Yes, painful but nothing like 5 had nerve pain or prior herniated discs. My question is it suddenly LOOKS like i have an external hemmrhoid and I want to scream. Im doing everything right! Is this normal or swelling or a possible external again? :(
I’m 4 days post opp and I am struggling ugh 🙁 taking a laxative tomorrow and I stopped the pain med (only my Tylenol) I’ve taken 6 stool softeners and two spoons of mineral oil. Still constipated, this surgery is no joke. So painful
@Mr John mine lasted about 11 days but the pain came and went throughout those days, 1-5 are definitely tough and you’ll be cursing the gods but sitz baths really help. I’m three months posts opp and I’d do it again if I went back in time, I have no blood in stool and I’m no longer itching or having painful bms. I know everyone’s experience is different but I do think it helped my quality of life a lot. If you do decide to go through it, prep a plentiful fiber diet a week before and start stool softeners three days before the surgery. I wish I had done this. Take miralax the second or third day, it really helps w the first bm. Sitz bath three time if not more a day for 15-20 min, and you can apply ice to the area on and off. Some doctors don’t recommend witch hazel wipes but I personally loved them and would fold them in the area to help w the swelling. It’s a journey but honestly by day 12 I was feeling pretty good.
@Mr John how are you feeling?? Fruits, veggies, anything high fiber. I basically lived off of oatmeal with fresh fruit cut up in it. Anything that is hearty but not going to back you up. Even soup is a good way to go
Sorry to ask this Question but did your Hemorrhoids have an Unpleasant Smell ?… Like did you Notice there was Never a Smell and then all of a Sudden they started smelling weird ?… I’m starting to think that means they are Now internal aside from external 🤷🏽♀️
My internal hemorrhoid will prolapse every time I have a bowel movement and about the size of a grape with no pain just slight discomfort. I went ahead schedule the surgery cause I'm tired of pushing it back in every time and afraid it will get worse if untreated.
@@fish4fun354 same as mine on the first 12hrs, I was so relax, but the next 12hrs that pain didnt let me sleep even a sec...but thats normal, make sure you will remove the gauze after, in my case the gauze causes the lot of my pain
@@eyantv5715 I've been pretty tired but hopefully the pain won't keep awake. They taped my gauze on pretty good so that won't hurt getting off. Hopefully I won't poop for two days or comes out with ease.
Hey Ale thanks for sharing your story. I began having hemorrhoids 4 years ago in my mid 20s. It gradually got worse with the swelling, a drop of blood every now and then, then just more over time. I have internals and externals. When you had a bad flare up did you ever have to push them back in after cleaning? Did you have a staple or incision removal? Get well soon please share a update with us
Hi there! YES! I had to push them back whenever they would flare up and just have a sitz bath afterwards! I recommend the TUCKS witch hazel wipes when you have a bowel movement and the RectiCare -Lidocaine 5% (it numbs you down there and is actually meant for them. ) I have been using it post op to help me out when I go / to help ease the pain of the stitches as they heal/ fall off. I wish I knew about it when I had the hemorrhoids, I would have used it before I went to the bathroom. My surgeon was initially wanting me to go the banded route which for one, I would've had to go in a few times in his office and they basically make the bands tighter and tighter until it "falls off" aka loses blood circulation but I insisted on the surgery since my family has a history with that method and it just came back with a vengeance.I then insisted on the surgery knowing it would come with a lot of pain and requiring 4 - 8 weeks healing time. I won't lie to you, it hurt.. a lot and you will be uncomfortable and you will cry that first bowel movement.. but I do not regret it one bit. I can wake up and not feel them there, lurking. I can squat and it doesn't come out or hurt. I can live my life and not worry about doing tasks where it will certainly flare me up. It's improved my quality of life in more ways than one. I wholeheartedly recommend you do it, if you're able to and DO NOT give up!! If it bothers you and the Dr. dismisses you, find another one!! I went through a few yes it's a lot of hoops to jump through but I just couldn't keep living my life that way and now, I can even eat high fibre foods to help my stool and my body which before I couldn't due to the severe pain. Sorry for the long reply but I have been there, literally 22 days ago!! I can't imagine my life now without the procedure. If you have more questions feel free to email me or DM me and I'll reply! I will absolutely update in a few months as well! Stay well, Happy Holidays!

Been suffering since 1989. Been at level 3 and 4 for the past 15 years and right now, the pain is about the same as before only it would last a few days. This one is non stop until it will be over. My poor wife doesn't know what to do when I hit the 10/10 pain threshold. We are in this together as we used to say the "asshole" used to rule the house. Nobody can say what pain it is unless they have gone through. As a retired Veteran, I have had many surgeries to make me better but this one, take the win. Even tax pains aren't as bad. You'll curse cause you have to pay them but it is over. Not this shit.
I am 24 hours post operation i feel nothing maybe i still numb i dont know ive had a bowel movement sting a bit but nothing major. I just had paracetamol in the morning and thats all
I literally just got out of surgery a few hours ago and extremely scared for that first bowel movement 😬 is it normal to feel like I have to pass gas?/ or feel like i have to have a bowel movement ? I ended up with hemorrhoids after having my first born and have been dealing with them for 2years internal and external. I can't believe there has been ppl dealing with this for more years than I have. I feel like I rather be in pain for 2 weeks rather than months, years and living everyday scared about going to the restroom. Any advice you guys can give me for a faster healing?
Hey Brenda! Yeah dude! It’s normal, keep hydrated and if you can / feel good don’t take to much of the norco bc that causes the stool to harden 😭 I did a few videos on it but this community is wonder too! Sometimes it’s faster for some and others like myself had it a bit harder! wishing you the best! ❤️💪
I can relate to the crying with the "excruciating pain." I describe the sutures like sitting on thorns, walking around with thorns on that tender area--and eliminating broken glass. Evidently, a very heavy suture thread is used because it has to hold things in place for up to four weeks, so it's "heavy duty" suture thread--it's so stiff, it almost feels like needles or straight pens. So, this is "serious pain."
@Mr John Hi. I'm NOT an MD. I just looked up laser surgery for this procedure. I'm guessing because the removal of flesh in this delicate area is still the goal, pain will still be a factor in recovery. The one thing I messed up on was on taking the pain medication accuratly--and "on schedule." One of the dilemmas I had was dealing with the new federal mandates for distrubution of benzos (pharmacuitical pain meds). It was a major problem to get refills--and, it elongated my recovery and exagerated my pain. My suggestion is to talk to your doctor about how to make sure you will have those pain meds in a timely manner so that there's no "catching up time" when trying to refill, its a weekend, or it takes hours to connect with your doctor. Also, make sure you clearly uderstand the cycle of taking your pain meds, cycling exactly every two hours the tylonol, acetaminophen, then pharmacuitical--keep to that schedule as it will keep a theraputic level pain management meds in you system. I made a chart and even set my alarm to wake & take the next dose. That really helped. The first three days are particulary hard. So, stay on top of the meds. And, YES! The surgery will CHANGE YOUR LIFE. And, while your going through it, you'll find a lot of brave people here on TH-cam who posted their day to day experience, sometimes several times a day. It help you to not feel alone!
It literally saved my life. I would NOT be here had I not had that surgery. My hemoglobin levels hovered between 3.2 mls and 6.8 for three years, w/24 blood transfusions, 20 Iron Pushes--that's no way to live--actually, not living. So, it was either the surgery or the grave.
I had this surgery 12 years ago, before I had kids. Unfortunately due to two pregnancies, an anal fistula and a lifetime of undiagnosed coeliac disease ( which obviously affected my guts and poos for years), they're back. They're not painful thank God, but they're physically extruded, prolapsed and I have a lot of excess skin tags which makes cleaning after a BM a nightmare. My bum ALWAYS itches and I'm at the point that I'm desperate to get my bum fixed.... However my surgery 12 years ago was the most painful experience I've ever gone through, even worse than my super traumatic induced labour with my daughter, and my completely passion relief free natural labour with my son. I can't describe the pain. I am tired of wiping 10 times to get a good clean, but the pain is putting me off, especially if they'll come back AGAIN
Hi which did you get general anesthesia or spinal or local or nerve block? I can’t get deep sleep I’m really scared.. I want to stay awake and under nerve block or spinal anesthesia I don’t think so good
Did you have muscle spasms down there? I am randomly but I do also have pelvic floor issues. In my experience I kept having small amounts of loose stool the morning after surgery. Day one I had no pain. The first two nights I couldn't sleep because of the pain and pressure on my stitches. Literally couldn't find a comfortable position and woke up a lot. Day two after surgery I had a HUGE BM. Surprisingly I didn't have much pain despite needing to push and I felt so much relief. I also stopped my oxy due to it not helping my pain and I didn't want to get constipated. I started stool softeners and miralax day one. Lots of random gas. My gut sounds like wind lol. Thanks for the Recticare recommendation, it's helping a lot so far, especially in between my ibuprofen and Tylenol. Sitz baths are also my life saver. Question though: did they give you local anesthesic that should last a few days after surgery? I'm praying I'm just blessed and am having easy bowl movements. Also to anyone reading, memory foam donut pillows are super helpful for car rides and hard surfaces!
I actually did not have that issue! :0 and I am with you on the uncomfortable sleep!! 😖 there just wasn’t any comfortable positions for me as well! The drugs did help though but as you know it causes constipation so we’re in a pickle. LOL 😆 the wind noises!!! You did well taking the stool softeners ASAP because I delayed and I’m pretty sure that caused me MORE pain the first BM!
Also I’m SUPER glad the recticare is helping out because that was a game changer for me and I said right away, “I’m putting this out there because I wasn’t told and it could’ve helped!!” Girl the sitz baths are a god send! Also, I didn’t get the local anesthetic!! I did get an oxy (Thanks for the reminder I could not recall the name for the life of me in the video lol) but they gave me that and anti nausea per my request and that helped after I left the hospital!! Dude, you’re so lucky the BMs are easy!!!🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 😩 I wouldn’t wish it on anybody!!!
Hii Lemondrops how are you now, it's 4th day after my surgery and the surgeon has given me lots of medicine to take, that is causing a lot of Gas ans acidity, was that the case with you as well ?
I didnt have my first bowel movement until 2 weeks after surgery. I was in so much pain. Scared for my life to even go to the bathroom. Colace wasnt doing anything for me. I took magnesium citrate and milk of magnesia, didnt do anything. Ended up in the hospital but they couldn't do anything for me. I know they tell you not to strain but honestly for your first bowel movement you kind of have to. So i did. And felt SO much better after. Im almost a month post op and still recovering, i still feel some pain in the area but hopefully it gets better.
Im 9 days post op but I still can’t have “normal” bowel movements they’re very painful and very minimal amount. I tried the laxative but it’s either from one extreme to the other I’ve been on a liquid diet since the surgery but for whatever reason my bowel movements are still rock hard any advice?
I just had the surgery a lot of pain.I fainted after my first bowl movement and am scared to go for the second time I’m in day 3 now Any recommendation for what to eat to make it easier
@@maryamsaleh1029 hey are u arab? pls tell me more about ur experience and the procedure you did? I'm considering doing the surgery too, how are u feeling now?
Hi all, How long after the surgery, until you (any responders) were able to walk for extended periods of time and/or sit in a car for extended periods of time?
Hi! for me it was but ONLY because I was sedated with the Norco painkillers. The first day I didn't feel anything and the second day I felt like trash but I had to take the medication to feel less pain. Sleeping was very difficult as well. HOWEVER, a lot of folks have had different experiences where they felt little to no pain post op so unfortunately, you'll have to see how YOU feel. :( I hope it isn't that bad for you.
What is everyones experience with newer methods like HAL-RAR THD or stappled haemorroid removal? I waited almost 10 years for these and it turns out both dont work and even the stappled causes serious problems. I am thinking of trying the ligasure haemorroid surgery. It has a quicker healing time, smaller wound and hopefully less pain
@@crystalk98 the surgeons i spoke to said using the ligasure is still extremly painful :( one surgeon wants to try hal-rar thd before removing them with ligasure. Even if THD is not a perfect fix, if its much less painful them completly removing them i will be happy with that
@@crystalk98 yeah, i have spoken to 4 surgeons the last 6 months. All 4 said ligasure was very dangerous. Only one did THD. I have some things on in the next 3 months, but hope to get THD done in say 4 months time
@@chinitangmorena9647 i am almost on my se3ond month. Still have pain sometimes after pooping but the doctor said tissues will entirely recover after 3 months. Hope you're doing better now.
I’m on day 7 post surgery. The pain was the worst day 6 morning after spending the first 5 days in hospital receiving medicine through an IV drip and shots in my backside to take the pain away. Like you I broke in to a sweat and was crying when I was trying to go. I felt like I was going to pass out and literally fell on the floor. If I could go back in time I would tell myself to just eat less meat and more fibre and never to strain on the toilet. This has been one of the worst weeks of my life. Worse than Covid, worse than 2 other surgeries I’ve had.. not quite as bad as when I got my heart broken but a close second.
@@Quinn94443 it still hurts a little bit when I have a big bowel movement but the pain is nothing in comparison to the first 2 months. I actually in the first and second month suffered from a weakened sphincter and ended up with an impacted stool. I kept being constipated and then impacted so I kept eating more and more fiber and took probiotics. For some reason I ended up having to go to hospital and receive an anal suppository to make me go. That was like the pain from the first week or surgery all over again. No idea why that happened I think that doesn’t happen to everyone who gets this surgery but I’m totally fine now and I don’t get impacted stools anymore. My doctor blamed the probiotics but who knows… It’s pretty grim ngl :( but anyway hang in there! It gets better!
@@Quinn94443 when did you have your surgery? The poop getting stuck happened to me a lot for the first couple months. But then I was very constipated for some reason so I heard this can cause dry stools as the colon absorbs the water from the stools. I don’t know if this applies to you though. They were so dry and stuck and I’m sorry this might be tmi but when I was impacted I even had to use latex gloves to help them along :( But then yes once the dry bit was evacuated the normal poop would follow. I also definitely felt like my anus had narrowed and the muscle had weakened and wondered if that was the reason for the poops getting stuck too.. Also whenever I had a painful BM I’d also not be able to pee easily for a minute. It’s as though the whole pelvic floor is impacted by this surgery imo.. It’s worlds better now (though not perfect- I have skin tags and a little pain as I said and I still get leakage sometimes which is upsetting) but it was hell for I’d say 2-3 months. I’d jump off the toilet and just run the hot shower head over my behind until I felt better. I ended up with dry skin all over my thighs because I was always scorching them with hot water but scorching hot water was better than the pain from the BM. 😭
I would hope that the doctors would know that prescribing pain medication, that the very 1st thing that comes to their mind would be reducing the hardness of the poo???? So why would they prescribe such a medicine??
hello. my English isn't good. i have question does hemorrhoids cause urge to urinate again and again after passing stool? and penis pain ? thanks. hopefully someone give answer
Also I have looked and it seems like I have a huge skintag now. Gonna ask my doctor how to get rid of it after healing because I know it's harmless but after always seeing my prolapsed hemorrhoid sticking out I don't want to see anything else down there 😭
Sometimes they go away after the swelling goes down! (Per my surgeon ) but yes girl, let them know because if it’s bothering you you’ll be the one living with it not them!!! Speedy recovery ❤️❤️
I am 7 days postop and I have these hard skin bubbles/like thrombosed hemorrhoids now, they are very painful and ugly. Has anybody else had this problem after surgery? Do they go away? What should I do? I had a hemorrhoidectomy to help not having something sticking out down there but now I have these swollen thrombosed hemorrhoids. I’m super upset 😢
@@ladysmith6905 hey girl I see it's been 6months since you posted your question. I'm on day 7 post-op too. Did your skin tag finally went away? I’m day 5 post op and currently lying on my side. I’m having trouble peeing tho. I sit bcs I feel like I need to but nothing comes out. It only happens maybe 1 per day. It’s kinda concerning especially since I’m drinking A LOT of water. Any tips from anyone?
I've had hemorrhoids off and on for last 5 months and right now they're dormant as far as pain but doing the wrong thing like not hydrating enough the previous day would set them off after having a bowel movement and it'd hurt for a few hours a day for a few weeks. I went to a doctor about it in September but they had me do a colonoscopy. It's been scary to have a bowel movement for months, although from July to October or so, it was kinda like a phobia. Fast forward, in November, now that I have hindsight about it, I had another flare up after not pooping for 3 days and was deadly constipated. When I finally got it out, and this is undiagnosed, but after watching videos about this, I'm almost sure I have an anal fissure--I dunno if you've had spasming as well as pain but that's a marker of an anal fissure. When I go to moisturize my anus, I do feel a cut or tear in it so I've been having to deal with that as well. I still feel the hemorrhoid but it doesn't obstruct my bowel movements and there's no pain anymore so I don't worry about it right now. This is the best I've felt since July, however. Taking magnesium to relax the muscles down there is a natural way to indirectly deal with the pain, but I've wanted to avoid surgery unless it was the last resort. This is a tangent comment talking about anal fissures but you've helped me learn a lot of information about this.
Thank you for posting your experience!!

Hello. I done my surgery on june 12. Is it normal after bowel you notice some kind of hemorrhoid on your anus. Im scared that my hemorrhoid is not gone and wasted my money.
Thank you so much!! I am so scared and nervous but I have to get it done to have better quality of life. Thanks Again for sharing!!
Mine was 3 out 6 hemorrhoid was removed because if he remove all its hard for me to poop. I still bleed after poop even its now 2 months
also i still notice some hemorrhoid.

I was in so much pain but when i look at ur face...i got little relief...
Believe me ..
@AleOmalley
Thanks for the video.
Sitz bath and lidocaine help too
Hi. How is it after a month or so?
@Mr John did you do the laser surgery now?
I’m afraid I might have to have this surgery someday.
did you get it done? im 3 weeks out and feel so much better. still hurts to poo
How are you now? Do you remember contracting and spasms in the night? I’m day 2, day 1 was fine but last night was horrendous
It helps.
how are you now dear?
Thanks for the video and your tips. I am 5 days post op. Have been following all that you suggest. Your suggestions have been very helpful. I am a doctor and After this procedure I have realized how painful ano-rectal procedure can be. Will never ever take pain lightly on my patients. My colorectal surgeon did not discuss with me half of what you talk about in this video. Thank you. I am curious how you feel 6 months after the procedure.
How are you now dr??

I am having the surgery soon. Thanks for the frank talk. Just what I needed to hear.
Wishing you a smooth surgery, easy and speedy recovery! ❤️🙌🏼 You got this!!!
Just watched the surgery and oh my. You’re so optimistic. I’m literally terrified for having to go through this some day. Currently on the toilet right now struggling. So much pain. Damn you make this sound fucking horrible.
Don’t do it 😭 I am day 7 and I am a mess I regret it so much
Thanks for sharing. I'm day 1 post-op and I'm scared of the first bowel movement to come. The tears are real. Also researching on other high fiber foods
@gannu no more pain. Slight blood only if you push stool too hard so i refrain from that. I'd say 95% back to normal after 3 months.
@Mr John what operation did u did? and how are u feeling now?
@mr John
@Mr John yea did you get laser or the regular surgery? Closed or open? How you feeling now brother?
So painful
How are you feeling now ? Are you about to move around freely? Take a shower?
Im scheduled in 2 weeks how are you feeling? Do you still feel the pain?
I went ahead schedule the surgery cause I'm tired of pushing it back in every time and afraid it will get worse if untreated.
same case as mine.
it's my 5th day post op

The pain I can't describe.
I’m on my 4th day post op. How do you feel now?
I'm on 10 day of post hemorroidectomy Recovery, the pain during morning bowl movement is incredible. 2-4 Bowl movements during a day from past 3 days. Don't know when I'm going to get rid of such worst pain.

What did you do to help with the constipation? The laxatives aren’t working for me, nor are the stool softeners. I had a lot fiber, but I stop taking that. Now I’m just constipated. I’m not sure what to do. The constipation is bad.
Mineral oil, about 3 tablespoons. Don't forget to eat when you take this. You'll have a bm in a few hours.

My pre-op is before my surgery date; I'm actually nervous about this. Did you get Brazilian wax or some other type of wax before surgery? It's not something I want to be upfront about, but I'm trying to prepare for it.
Hi! I wanted to ask whether you got waxed or what did you do?
Been suffering since 1989. Been at level 3 and 4 for the past 15 years and right now, the pain is about the same as before only it would last a few days. This one is non stop until it will be over.
My poor wife doesn't know what to do when I hit the 10/10 pain threshold. We are in this together as we used to say the "asshole" used to rule the house. Nobody can say what pain it is unless they have gone through.
As a retired Veteran, I have had many surgeries to make me better but this one, take the win.
Even tax pains aren't as bad. You'll curse cause you have to pay them but it is over.
Not this shit.

how are you feeling, friend?
How long did the incontinence last you ..I’m on my 8th day of post op and I can’t seem to catch a break from the drainage 😬
So how do you avoid being constipated from the pain meds? Do you just avoid them and just take stool softeners and laxatives?
I can relate to the crying with the "excruciating pain."
I describe the sutures like sitting on thorns, walking around with thorns on that tender area--and eliminating broken glass.
@Mr John And, soon, you'll forget about it--until one day, many months later, someone may write and ask you if it was worth it!

How do you feel now? A year has passed since the operation, what has changed? Did a new hemorrhoid come out?
I’m day 10 , and most of my pain came from the spasms.
I hope you get better soon :)!! ❤️

How long after the surgery, until you (any responders) were able to walk for extended periods of time and/or sit in a car for extended periods of time?
Took me about a month to comfortably ride in a vehicle.
Hi
Did you have the open or close hemorrhoidectomy ?
Hi alaomally, plz could you tell was the pain manageble for the first 2 days
Hi! for me it was but ONLY because I was sedated with the Norco painkillers.
Did ur insurance cover the bill cause I might need surgery soon .. or did u pay out of pocket .. ??
Yes it did!!
Which is best for grade 3 piles open surgery or laser sister?
What is everyones experience with newer methods like HAL-RAR THD or stappled haemorroid removal? I waited almost 10 years for these and it turns out both dont work and even the stappled causes serious problems. I am thinking of trying the ligasure haemorroid surgery. It has a quicker healing time, smaller wound and hopefully less pain
Hi there, did you end up getting Ligasure?
@@crystalk98 the surgeons i spoke to said using the ligasure is still extremly painful :( one surgeon wants to try hal-rar thd before removing them with ligasure. Even if THD is not a perfect fix, if its much less painful them completly removing them i will be happy with that
@@Yalbou so you're still waiting to have something done?
@@crystalk98 yeah, i have spoken to 4 surgeons the last 6 months. All 4 said ligasure was very dangerous. Only one did THD. I have some things on in the next 3 months, but hope to get THD done in say 4 months time
@@Yalbou can I ask what grade hems you have? All good if you don't want to answer...
I am on my 3rd day post surgery. It hurts but It's manageable.
10th day and still the pain in unbearable
@@chinitangmorena9647 i am almost on my se3ond month. Still have pain sometimes after pooping but the doctor said tissues will entirely recover after 3 months. Hope you're doing better now.
how are you now?
how are you now?
I already got it done but I’m scared for the pain I hate pain so much 😢
I’m on day 7 post surgery.
My doctor blamed the probiotics but who knows…
It’s pretty grim ngl :( but anyway hang in there! It gets better!
@@Quinn94443 when did you have your surgery? The poop getting stuck happened to me a lot for the first couple months. But then I was very constipated for some reason so I heard this can cause dry stools as the colon absorbs the water from the stools. I don’t know if this applies to you though. They were so dry and stuck and I’m sorry this might be tmi but when I was impacted I even had to use latex gloves to help them along :(
But then yes once the dry bit was evacuated the normal poop would follow.
Hi. It's my day 8 after surgery too. I can say,way far too imagine the pain. But I'm thankful hemor is gone and I will be better 😉
hello. my English isn't good. i have question does hemorrhoids cause urge to urinate again and again after passing stool? and penis pain ? thanks. hopefully someone give answer
Omg I’m in day 2, had my first bowel movement. It’s so painful. I hv not been taking my pain meds.
I just got one done this the worst pain in my life and I had two plastic surgery and a child 😔
Because I feel a big skin tag down there too and that's really making me panic. I really thought I would have that area finally normal looking and free from any thing 😭😭😭. I'd appreciate an answer
Alot of people that have hemorrhoids relate to the symptoms you have experienced with hemorrhoids...Thinking of have it, after 15 yrs
If you’re able to do it, do so! 🙏🏼 I’m shocked at how many people are going through this too! But we’re all helping out with words and things that we have tired! Hopefully you find relief soon!
@@AlejandraSimplyCreates thank you...godspeed in your recovery.
How is your recovery as of today? I’m going under soon
