I'm a Healthcare worker and have had quite a few surgeries I'm on day 15 and this by far has been the most painful surgery I have ever had. I followed every direction possible. I lost 18 pounds on week 1.

Sorry to hear, completely understand. I personally still think the pain before is far worse than the pain after surgery. I know cause I've had 3 surgeries all within 1 year. Best of luck and speedy recovery 🙏

Want to leave a positive note for anyone considering hemorroidectomy. Had mine 2 days ago and although, it's not a fun surgery it's really not that bad. Pain level elevates at times but I found walking, keeping up with Sitz Baths, applying ice packs and taking medicine as needed really helps. Definitely keeping hydrated and eating a soft food and fibrous diet. So grateful I found this video prior to my surgery! It really helped!

This! Too many people are vocal about bad experiences so we need to post more good experiences for people considering surgery. I was anxious before surgery but honestly, it wasn’t too bad. The pain was awful days 3-7, but after that I got better everyday and by day 12 I was back to being able to do resume normal activities. These videos def helped ease my mind, and Chris was right - pain before was a lot worse than pain after
      Things I recommend:
      1) see a colorectal surgeon, not a general surgeon
      2) make sure you get exparal administered during post op - it will numb the area for 2 days
      3) drink LOTS of water
      4) pee often, sometimes even before you have the urge. This helped with the spasms more than anything
      5) try to get as much sleep as you can the week after surgery - your body recovers faster
      6) this could be a personal thing, but Ice packs helped a lot more than sitz baths. I personally feel the sitz gave temporary relief after a bowel movement, but made it worse after
      7) try to get off pain meds after week 1. The pain isn’t so bad and maintaining soft stools is the quickest way to recovery
      8) diet is everything! You are what you eat, and this surgery reiterated that for me.
      9) use laxatives or colace for atleast a month, but don’t over do it. I found a quarter of a bad of Miralax daily to work best for me. You want stools to be soft, but don’t want diarrhea or have to go multiple times
      10) be positive! The power of a healthy, positive mind is incredible! And if you can, have 1-2 loved ones around. This actually brought me closer to people

I'm on day 8 recovering. It has been extremely painful days 2-5 the first 2 days I was crying for an hour while waiting for keterolac to kick in. Keterolac and extra strength tylenol were the only thing keeping me at bay. BUT I was having side effects like blurry vision and breathing trouble to keterolac by day 5 post op(day 10 because I was taking it a few days before) so I switched to Neproxen 250. But it was not enough. I was angry from lack of sleep and crying for the past few days and my surgeon did not answer from Thurs- Sunday so by day 5 I was going crazy. I went to urgent care and they gave me a steroid shot because I couldn't have a keyerolac shot, and let me tell you that I felt almost immediat relief. If it gets bad, a steroid shot is a good option. Since then everything has slowly been less painful. I'm on day 8 and last 2 days I have been taking 2 stool softener and feel hardly no pain.

I think your experience was mild or maybe the severity of hemorrhoids wasn’t as extreme as some. I’m in way better shape than this guy, didn’t ever eat anything other than fruits and vegetables, tons of water and some juice during recovery. Never a couple burgers or HOLY SHiT a burrito from Taco Bell. Even with all that this has been a nightmare, every bm is insanely painful. On day 9 now and it is getting slightly better. All that being said, I think it will be worth it in the end, hemorrhoids we’re destroying my life. So best of luck to you if you decide to do this but just be prepared for serious pain😢

I had the surgery one week from today and it's painful, but most of that pain is related to bowel movements. I only took oxy for two days and took some Ibuprofen up to four days. I found taking four sitz baths a day helped me even though I only did one bowel movement a day. For those considering this surgery, do it if you nothing else works. I was not constipated or it was bulky or something it was smooth but i had no idea how the hell it hurts again. Also why do I feel sitz bath did not help that much? ahhh I really underestimated how tough they recovery is. My doctor told me that my hemorrhoid was not that bad and he could prescribe me some cream or I could have it removed. I was thinking for the sake of long term benefits I should have it removed. I am on day 13, things have gotten a lot better I don't feel any pain today, drainage has been getting less and less, a bit itchy. Actually from day 7 I feel less pain and I stopped pain meds.
Day 1-3, the numb thing the surgeon injected in that area can last up tp 3 days so I did not feel much pain. food mainly fruit pouches from Costco which is great no sugar added, organic. pain level: 4/10
Day 4-6, this is the worst part. one night the pain woke me up at 2:00 am I had to take pain med right away. Also morning wood makes it worse at least in my experience. luckily it was a long weekend I laid down on bed for most of these three days. pain level 8/10.
Day 7- as now much much better. I even went to restaurant and IKEA lol but did not walk too much tho. pain level: 5.5/10 decreased to 2/10.
As far as bowel movement. I have it every day since day 1 after surgery. With stool softener it was a bit easier still rough but man you have to be tough. no way around it. I have been using bidet since early this year so cleaning is not an issue but lower the water pressure! and I did wipe very gently with baby wipes.
diet: I did not get enough energy with only fruits pouches so I bought some milkshake and some vegetables and salmon.
That's it I think the worst has gone. since i haven't gone back to office yet working from home has made it a lot easier I only took the day off for surgery. oh another good thing I lost 4 pounds since surgery so positive to get rid of the COVID fat not all bad.

Which surgery has been hardest to recover from? The lateral sphincterotomy or the hemorrhoidectomy? I am getting the lateral sphincterotomy soon and I am so scared because I have a newborn baby at home to take care of!! I’m sure both surgeries are hard in their own separate ways but wondered I guess if the fissure surgery was easier to heal from? Do you feel fully healed from the fissure?

Hello Olivia, thank you for your question.. so yes both surgeries have there own difficulties in there own separate way... but for me between the two .....the Internal Lateral Sphincterotomy was easier... important thing with both surgeries is drinking lots of clear fluids like *water *Apple juice which has been best for me and hi fiber diet lots n lots of Fruits...it helps with going to bathroom and with healing better seriously...first 2-3 weeks will be hardest with internal Lateral Sphincterotomy take things extra easy 1st week ... do not strain and try Not get constipated by drinking lots of water n eating fruits and hi fiber foods...thing I do when going to bathroom that actually helps a lot is when I go I take a cold bottle water n drink while going and that helps also...n don’t I repeat don’t wipe... I go to rest room and then immediately go right into bathtub and use my portable bidet ( which if u don’t have one get one it will be ur best friend while trying to keep clean) there like 10 bucks on Amazon also if you don’t have a seat donut get that also I got a memory foam one with tailbone support on Amazon for $20..
      Also Sweets and greasy food
“will cause” pain and discomfort i know it did for me .. hope this helps..
I will add my Doctor did mention when I asked questions b4 my surgery he said the surgery tends to be a little harder for women for some reason so take the extra steps I mentioned might be helpful..I would recommend having help with you for your baby for the 1st week especially ...you’ll probably need it , if you have someone or family member that can assist you ..would be recommended even if only for part of the time

I would encourage you to watch a few of my videos from different timelines to get an idea of what to expect and what can help. if have burning or discomfort use ice packs. don't drink alcohol or smoke for at least first 2-3 weeks post surgery if you do. and if you find my videos helpful I would encourage you to Subscribe to my channel for new videos and updates. also hit the like button and the Bell. hope all goes well

also watch greasy foods , spicy foods, fried foods for at least 1-2 weeks post surgery. and when you start eating like that start in moderation so you avoid constipation or issues causing pain. if you get spasms back there try peeing it helps just dont force. change gauze frequently you will have discharge for at minimum first month post surgery, but can be longer i'm still using them but may stop in next 2-3 days as almost done with discharge it gets less and less with each day post surgery but expect using gauze for 30-45 days after surgery if you want a good healing , avoid possible infection, and keep clothes clean.

Day 3 was the same after a BM it was excruciating pain. The dr then gave me a numbing cream which I would apply around the anus but it made no difference at all. Today the Dr prescribe me with morphine. I took this just 2 mins before my BM but it kicked in 25 mins later. The pain of course went so will see how this goes now. When will this pain go😢

Worst days are 3-10... after that gets way easier.. drink lots water very important to stay hydrated...if you get any spasms around anus try going to pee don't force take your time but just try peeing....also if have a step stool try using it while having a bowel movement and sipping on a COLD bottle of water while going helps with preventing constipation...take stool softener...and frequent soaking in a bathtub with warm/hot water was most comfortable. About 5x a day is what I did 2-3 wasn't enough for me ..
I'm not a doctor so it's best for you to consult with your doctor. These are things that just helped me in my experience. So if you follow any suggestions it's at your own free will.
