    Today I want to show you one other special region of Ukraine calls Transcarpathians. It's area behind (or before) Carpathians, it depends which side you look at in. You need to understand that mountains devide people so much, and that's why areas which are devided from other part of country by mountains, they are special, have special customs, lifestyle, even weather.

    I went to the Carpathian mountains but it was still in the Lviv Oblast, but the villages and mountains are so beautiful there. Also there weren't that many people so it was very peaceful for me and my partner. The beautiful natural rivers and the lovely villages on the mountain sides were amazing. We walked a very long time and we stopped by a lovely local restaurant on the way there. The woman serving us was very polite and the restaurant or cafe itself was beautiful with a local rustic decor. We were the only customers and the food we ordered was delicious. We had borsche for starters and then we had chicken and vegetables for the main meal and it was delicious and very reasonably priced. We were the only people in the restaurant, so it was very peaceful as well. In general we had a great time there and it was a very relaxing and soothing experience. The people there were surprisingly much more friendly than the regular Ukrainians in the big cities. It was great. But maybe you could tell us more about the Hutsuls who live in the Carpathian mountains and their very interesting culture.

    Beautiful! And interesting bit of info about my people, the Boykos and Lemkos: "As if Transcarpathia wasn't complicated enough, the Rusyns themselves are divided into a number of subgroups which are surely of interest to modern ethnographers. Take for example the Boikos, who were historically rather patriarchal people influenced by Pagan practices. Then there's the Lemkos or Lemkos/Rusnaks, humble farmers whose culture "retained archaic elements that have disappeared among neighboring groups" such as language, "primitive cults based on belief in the forces of nature" and local native dress. Other peoples include the Hutsuls, whose origins remain obscure, and the Dolyniane, the numerically largest group of Rusyns within the region."

    Hi Olga! Thank you for the excellent video. Transcarpathia is really wonderful. I am a notorious hiker and I would like to visit the Uholo-Shirokoluzhanskiy beech forest, which is (part of) the oldest beech forest in Europe and a natural reserve protected by UNESCO as I have heard. Could you please help me, in which town or village should I find accommodation, as a "base camp" to the hiking? Are there cabins for hikers in that forest, by any chance? Your kind help would be highly appreciated.

      Thanks for your reply, Olga. This November I am going on a tour put on by Mark and Anna Davis. I want to arrive a couple weeks early to visit the Kiev area and also visit Lviv and , maybe , a little bit of the Carpathians- maybe Bukovel. I am not sure of the distances involved and not sure if I have enough time to do this trip before starting their tour. Also, is it easy to rent a car there? Again, thanks for your help.

I'm gonna go chill in the hot tub cauldron, go see the sights, white water rafting, backpacking and camping, fight off a pack of wolves, find Dracula's castle, undo an Evil curse by destroying some undead mutant creature, go back to the village and kick it in a warm log cabin style tavern, the whole village is happy I destroyed the monster, we all slurp some delicious beer like Pilsner or something, then I wake up and do it all again! ... Oh Yeah! One Day this is my life!

    I visited this region a year ago. And, ummm... the people there do **NOT** like nor identify with Ukrainians. Seriously. Ukrainians are as "popular" here as Hitler is in Tel Aviv. I think in 10 years or so this oblast will be transferred to either Hungary or Slovakia.

    • @Olga_Reznikova
      @Olga_Reznikova  8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      really??? I've never noticed it.. All people speak Ukrainian, but maybe it depends from region.. People who lives near the border sometimes have more non-Ukrainian origin... It's like in any border region in every country)

    • @timothy9434
      @timothy9434 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, under the present regime I'm sure people will be very reticent to discuss politics with a stranger. However a cursory search into the issue will explain the Rusin fight for self-identity, accusations and arrests by hysterical Kiev of ethnic activists, nationalist goons from Lvov region using violence to break up peaceful demonstrations etc. Furthermore Orban (Hungary's president) has stepped in to try to quell the tension. He has offered Hungarian passports to ethnic Hungarians as well as Rusins. Search online!
