The steam deck analog joystick toggles are attached to their own individual circuit boards that are then screwed on to the main board. This makes inevitable replacement of the toggles very quick and easy without any soldering involved. This would 100% be my number one concern for any handheld..

The sticks on the steamdeck are also offset and clearly designed by people that play games.
All these new handheld consoles have the sticks directly above or below the buttons, making it difficult to press the buttons with your inner thumb while still being able to rotate the in-game camera.

Its cool what the Ayaneo pro can do but they have two things that hurt them: the price is so much higher compared to the steam deck, that it cuts out a majority of the market that wants a device like this. The other issue is their customer service. I ordered the original Ayaneo and after just looking for some information on when it would be shipped, I ended up canceling. I sent an email every single week for 2 months looking for some basic information and never heard back from them (I tried all of the emails that are listed on their store site). Then when I wanted to cancel, I still couldn't get ahold of anyone so I ended up contacting my credit card company and having them cancel the order and give me my money back.
If they could drop the price to be closer to the Steam deck and actually have some customer service then I could see them really taking off.

Basically it goes into the realm of “fraudulent” if the customer hasn’t received any contact back from customer service in order to receive a refund before the product has shipped etc. The credit card company and honestly a lot of banks (if you used a debit card) will do a chargeback to the non responsive company where you made your purchase. CC company fronts you the money or “credits” you the past balance before the transaction was made and then the credit card company recollects what they had originally paid the non responsive company to begin with. They can’t charge you all of that interest without some sort of perks or protection.

I remember riding down from Indiana to Florida back during the 55mph national speed limit era (well some states you could go 65 but in a four cylinder station wagon loaded down with kids and suitcases it was NOT happening easily) with a Game Gear and 24 fresh Duracell AA batteries and running out of juice around Chattanooga. It was that spring break my parents got the brilliant idea for rechargeable batteries and a charger I could plug into the wall. $40 got us 24 rechargeable AA batteries and the white plastic charger with a clear lid. Trouble was the charger could only do 8 at a time (4 hours to charge) and the Game Gear needed 6 at a time, so I'd hope to get a set done before falling asleep, change out, wake up overnight, change out, go back to bed, and hope they're all done by the time we left the hotel. It was tedious, but it kept me playing Sonic, Chase HQ, Super Monaco GP...and some puzzle game like Tetris but not quite, can't remember the name but it was jewels and such...all the way to and from the beaches and gift shops and back home.
14 year old me would've given all my Legos and Micro Machines for something like this.

Still going Steam Deck personally at the moment. I don't know if there is a trademark or something blocking these PC Switches from going full Joy-Con, but I do feel like that not having them is giving up a good chunk of the "Switch Experience" that at least I like. Especially with these bigger devices being a bit chonkier, the option to sit it on a table and use a controller (without bringing a dedicated controller) Is a big plus for travel, even more so if using one for something like Plex, where a "Joy-Con" in your wand would be enough control for media functions while having the full device on a tray or in a holder.

    • @FlakiCiociGosi

@@Sebastian-yl7nq I think there is more to differentiate the two devices than the price. The performance of the Deck GPU is about 30% better on paper. Furthermore you get better customer service (not that Steam's is amazing, but AYA's is just much worse) and since Deck is produced by a major player in PC gaming, it's likely to get more 3rd party support.
And that's ignoring a host of comfort features being built into it's OS.

And it’s not worse, it’s better in almost every way besides a couple. 1) the steam deck is subsidized by Valve, just like the Xbox and Playstation have been. This comparison is the same as trying to build a pc with the same performance as the consoles, for the same price. 2) it will take the rest of the year for reservations to ship out. Newcomers won't be able to get one until 2023, and Steam Decks will be selling on eBay for $1000-$1,500 in the meantime. I got my reservation within 10 minutes of it opening up, and I probably won't be getting it until June. But I could get one of these by the end of the week.

The Nintendo Switch cannot compare to these handheld PCs because the Switch is a device specifically designed for it's own software, it's own games. Homebrew hacking will never offer the same experience as a handheld PC because they're all created by unpaid people who don't have full access to the device. Even the Android on Switch is still wishy washy and not as fully featured as an actual Android tablet. There is simply no comparison.
